I'm sure DS (2.7) is more than ready but have been putting it off as long as possible. Today is the day I bite the bullet.

I sneaked out in lunch break yesterday and bought:

2 potty's
1 loo seat things
12 pairs of pants
2 pairs tracksuit bottoms
Some fab 'Cars' stamps (combining DS favourite loves - 'Cars' and stamps)

So far we have had 3 wees on potty (woot, holler, high fives), 2 wees on floor.

Am calm, but bored to death. Want to go out and do stuff!

Is it ok to have Cbeebies marathon when potty training!?

Sorry Elizabeth'sMother I don't know. Did she get a reward for weeing in the toilet? That might make the difference.

Since we bought the choc buttons things have improved greatly! Lots of wees on the loo. He'll sit there trying to squeeze one out which at least shows he's got some sort of control. Just 1 accident this afternoon but unfortunately I was having an unavoidably in depth phone conversation & couldn't help. Am feeling so much happier with it all now. Still no poo in loo - only during nappy at nap time but I guess that'll come.

STD your DD is a star. Good luck when you go out. Don't know if I'll ever leave the house again!

'Cheers' BBW - am on the white wine already!

shoptilidrop · 17/02/2008 19:27

choc shoes, well done! thats fab im really pleased for you. I know my dd is a star, i cant belive her really. But i am a bit worried about what will happen when she goes out tomorrow. Shes only at the childminders for 4 hours, so its not long but i dont think she will do as well.

BBW, that does not sound like fun at all! Poor you. Have that gin and i hope tomorrow is a better day.

Nettee · 18/02/2008 09:12

Good morning everyone - DS has got his pants on now and is quite pleased about that so a bit of a positive start. He says he isn't going to do wees and poos on the potty though so we will have to see what happens. I am hoping the wet pants will have some affect on him. Might be a long few days

hattyyellow · 18/02/2008 09:18

Can I join, but quietly gibber in the corner? Am trying to potty train my twin girls (2.6) and not doing very well - one is sort of getting it, the other just quietly poos in her trousers

Hoping that starting pre-school recently will help. They are allowed to join in nappies but with all the other little ones trotting off to the loo with the teacher I'm hoping they'll be inspired..

Good luck to everyone

sweetheart · 18/02/2008 09:24

Can I join in to? I have been introducing ds (26 mths) to the potty for a while and he seems to have got the hang of it now so I feel I should commit myself to doing it properly rather than just doing it for entertainemnt!

Hi bonkers!!!!!!

I think I need to stock up on some essential items before going at it full on so must try and get those this week. My SIL brought a waterproof seat cover type thing from Ebay which goes in her son's buggy and car seat whilst out and about. I think I'll crack it indoors first before letting him leave the house with a nappy.

He can be trusted indoors - he goes without a nappy most evenings and will always use his potty - although my mum has him during the day and says he is more reluctant to use his potty at her house - even though it's identical!

99redballoons · 18/02/2008 09:25

Hi Elizabethsmother, my dd is also 2.3 and we're giving it a go this week. She has watched her brother(4) use the loo since she was little and reads a book quite happily on it herself. But the last two days she's been completely against going near the loo throwing major wobblies. I'm not sure if that is a sign she's ready or not. She tells me when she does a poo but has no idea when she needs to do a wee and we've had a few puddles. She's starting nursery soon (only 2.5hr stints) and I wanted her dry before then. Ds was potty trained amazingly at 22 months! It's much harder work this time round and I thought girls were supposed to be easier! (ds was in cloth though and dd in disposables so that may have something to do with it)

So no advice but good to hear about everyone else's issues atm!

shoptilidrop · 18/02/2008 10:30

good luck to all those who are starting today or this week.
I think we might have cracked it!!! We havent had any accidents since yesterday lunchtime. Im back to doing normal things.. not just sitting watching her waiting for her to wee!!! Shes weeing and poohing on the pot when im not even in the room. I was having a shower this morning and when igot out was greeted by her standing at the bottom of the stairs shouting wee holding a pot full of it! Bless her im really proud. Childminders this afternoon so wish us luck!

toomanyshoes · 18/02/2008 10:55

morning all! Still no accidents here since last post (1 week today since we ditched the nappies and only 1 wee and 1 poo accident in 1st couple of days!) and DD is even waking up dry in the morning. Can't quite believe it!
I am so glad i waited until now to do it, have been getting hassled by MIL & co about it since she was 2 but just didn't think she was ready.
Am sending lots of dry vibes to your LO's. Would deffo recommend bribery of the chocolate variety! Good luck today

chocolateshoes · 18/02/2008 12:55

Just 1 accident this morning - the 1st wee of the day, and then lots of wees in the loo - a couple on his own accord. Yippee! He keeps saying he doesn't wear nappies now so that's good. Feel like I haven't spend so much time loitering around the bathroom this morning so that's a relief. Don't think I'll go out today though. I'll have to tomorrow though - getting fed-up of being in.

Keep going everyone!

Nettee · 18/02/2008 14:19

well we have had one near accident - caught the end if the wee, two accidents and one hit after an extended sit. Ial;so had a moment where i was sure ds needed a poo but held it and told me "i can't". it hasn't appeared in his pants yet though so maybe mistaken. The accidents were around lunch time when i was not concentrating so hard on him. Not sure we are getting anywhere with him knowing he needs to go in advance though. will have to see what progress he makes over the next few days. Well done to all of you coming out the other side - sounds like there have been some great sucesses this week

Nettee · 18/02/2008 14:20

mind you we have made progress because early this morning it look raisen bribes to make him sit on the potty at all

mcnoodle · 18/02/2008 14:29

Ooooh - my thread is still going!

Been so intent on potty training (and enjoying gorgeous weather) that I've not been back sincce Friday.

Crikey - it's a long winded bloody faff round at Mcnoodle Mansions. Poor DS is doing really well. It's me that gets bored and distracted - with resultant pant crisis.

Nevermind all the 'essential items' for ones little darling. The really essential item is wine. And lots of it.

DS is doing good with the wees. Managed to take him out for quite a long walk yesterday, and he held it together until we got home. Was most impressed. This morning hasn't been so good. He was watching me make lunch, and got a glazed look in his eye and told me he was wet. In my haste I whipped his pants of without checking - resulting in an enormous turd leaping out and landing in my lap.

Is it too early to pour a large one I wonder?

Well done to us all for persevering.

Huzzah!

chocolate shoes - ds won't poo either. He is waiting for his nappy to go on at nap/bedtime - bless him.

I am pleased that he is trying though - it shows great strength of character IMO.

I think our boys are doing pretty well Mcnoodle! I'm very bored but still scared to leave the house! May risk the park tomorrow morning!

Too right about the wine!

shoptilidrop · 18/02/2008 17:37

well Im back from work and picked my dd up from the childminders... guess what! NO accidents, lots of wees and even a poo on the pot!!! OMG, i cannot believe it at all.

Sounds like you are all doing well too, and i totally agree about the wine! The first few days are a bit stressful arent they.

SixtyNiner · 18/02/2008 17:46

DD (2 years and 7 months) has just been potty trained - not at night time yet. She has had very few accidents. I don't think she likes the idea of wetting her Iggle Piggle or Upsy Daisy pants.

She just decided one day that she wanted to wear pants. Perfect timing for us - having work done on house so bathroom has been ripped out leaving us with one toilet - also washing machine gave up on us at the same time.

Saving a fortune not having to buy nappies

chocolateshoes · 18/02/2008 18:42

Am shattered this evening I must say. Mainly from traipsing up & down the stairs to the loo all day. But also because its so boring and I rarely stay in all day with my DS.

This afternoon v good as well & very pleasingly a dry nappy from his lunchtime nap. However he did do a small poo in the bath but realised. I got him on the loo but then the moment was gone!

Nettee · 18/02/2008 18:48

DS is asleep and I don't think there are many times I have been so glad it is bed time. My goodness potty training is boring and frustrating isn't it. We had three hits and 5 missses (including one poo). DS said that he didn't like sitting on the potty and also kept apolgising and getting upset about the accidents. I feel quite cruel almost. This evening he said that he liked doing wees on the potty though so that is something. I am going by Gina Ford and she says some toddlers don't turn the corner till day 3 so I will keep trying till at least the end of Wednesday. The thing is the wees that went in the potty were either because I caught him at it or when he had been sitting for ages already. Doesn't really feel like much progress but I suppose it is all learning experiences for him.

Anyway - time to crack open the wine

BitTiredNow · 18/02/2008 18:59

Hi, catching up a bit late with this one. Started yesterday with ds2 and OMG, potty training is as dull as sh*t, esp as it meant we ALL had to stay in all day - 4 yo was bouncing off the walls by teatime and I lost count of the number of times dd (10 months) got to the full potty before I did and tipped it all over the floor. Still, have to persevere as is is half term here, and need to sort it out before school runs again.

chocolateshoes · 18/02/2008 19:02

I'm also on half-term BTN so undersatnd that time issue! By the way - your name sums up how I feel this evening. Glass of white anyone?

mcnoodle · 18/02/2008 19:09

It's definately wine o' clock. On reflection, today has been rubbish! I didn't sleep well last night so haven't been 'on the ball' today. I think DS is getting cheesed off with the constant 'time to sit on your potty/do you need a wee' requests. He squeezes out the tiniest dribble, then 10 mins later the real deal appears. Gagghhhhhhhh.

Am weirdly pleased that he pooed in his pants rather than waiting for his nappy. But really, it's not much of a life when that's the highlight of your day!

Shoptilidrop - sounds like your dd has cracked it

I have to get out of the house tomorrow. Am going to take DS swimming in the morning. Really want to make progress tomorrow as he's back at nursery Wed/Thur.

We have survived another day
