A safe place to rant so you keep your frustrations away from your child.

I just want to sake ‘For fuck sake DD just sit in the potty for 10 seconds for a try and then we can go out to the aquarium. It’s not that difficult just sit your arse down’.

😂 Tilly I’ve had a similar experience.

Perhaps we will go back to nappies and try again later.
I’m nit sure it will stop the little cry of ‘one last wee before bed mummy’.

anotherangel2 · 05/07/2018 09:18

Coldhandscoldheart I would just keep going. Two or three accidents a day surely mean there are more successes than accidents. Maybe keep a log of the number of accidents so you can see it getting better. Oh crap women who I appear to be obsessed with says not knickers for the first weeks so they can feel they are not wearing a nappy so they feel accidents quickly. My DD was having a couple of accidents a day until day 9 and now she has had 4 days of no accidents.

Today is day 1, doing 'oh crap'. Completely naked. First two wees on the floor, second two were in the potty. This feels like pretty good progress?

She was quite grumpy and clingy this morning, and asked for nappies a couple of times. I wondered if she got a bit freaked out by it. Has anyone else had this?

anotherangel2 · 05/07/2018 13:56

That is great. Weeing on the floor is all part of the learning when she is weeing.

My DD spent a lot of time pretending to be a baby for a few days. I just reassured and gave her lots of cuddles and lots her I would cuddle her even when she was a grown up.

Thank you. Yes, I think it's an age where there already slightly weirded out by being on the baby/big girl cusp and then potty training must unsettle them more. I'll be ready with lots of reassurance.

Coldhandscoldheart · 05/07/2018 20:03

Interesting thought, I feel my girl is quite unsettled just now.
Went back to nappies today, I just couldn’t deal with the laundry or puddles. However, there have been a few potty wees, also a surprise poo in the bath.

Rainatnight · 06/07/2018 12:53

Hm, feel like we took a step backwards this morning, but I took my eye off the ball and had a friend round for coffee, so definitely wasn't as focused this morning.

Can I ask anyone who's doing 'Oh Crap' - what did you do about prompting? I always thought Oh Crap was about them learning their own Wee signals, rather than the methods where you sit them on the potty at random times. So I'm confused about prompting and don't want to over-prompt, and make too big a deal of it.

anotherangel2 · 06/07/2018 13:22

I did ‘Oh crap’ and I definitely over prompted. Now I just say we try before leaving the house/getting in car, the natural wee points. I find it easier to say I am having a wee and DD then suddenly needs to use the big girl toilet.

Interesting thanks. Now that I have a bit more idea of her Wee patterns, I feel like I could give it a go. And in fact, I missed a wee this morning and had been thinking 'hm, I think she's due to go around now, should I prompt her?', didn't, and a few minutes later she did it on the floor.

Rainatnight · 06/07/2018 13:26

I have no idea why my phone randomly capitalises Wee. It must reflect Wee's importance in my life just now.

anotherangel2 · 06/07/2018 13:29

My phone does that with a few words.

It is hard not to prompt and I found some time I did and she refused to use the potty. I think wetting yourself when potty training is essential to learning you need to go the potty/toilet and to learning to get there on time.

Yeah, I definitely don't want to get into potty refusal!

DinoGreen · 08/07/2018 11:19

I’ve just found this thread! Started yesterday with DS who is 2.4. So far so good, we have spent all the time at home very close to the potty. He is in pants but no trousers. Lots of changes of pants (7 yesterday!) because he starts to dribble, then tells me and we get him quickly onto the potty to do the rest of the wee. No big accidents on the floor. Today, day 2, the last 2 wees he’s managed to tell me before he starts dribbling so dry pants, hooray!

Only one poo so far which he just did in his pants so still need to work on that.

He’s got nursery tomorrow and we take the bus there (his nursery is close to my work). I’ve got a pack of pull ups and think I’m going to put one on him just for the bus journeys - can’t have him having an accident on the bus seat. Hopefully it won’t be too confusing.

I over prompted DS until Day 3 and so just said where the potty is and left it at that and by day 4 we were fine for poo and wee.
It was not without accident obviously but it made it his decision (and responsibility).

anotherangel2 · 08/07/2018 19:23

DD has just done her first poo in the toilet!

OhHolyJesus · 08/07/2018 19:37

Woohoo that's great! SmileSmileSmile

OhHolyJesus · 08/07/2018 19:38

ColdHands we went with loose trousers and no pants for ages before I introduced pants. I think it gives the feeling of nappies. In this weather they can be naked but for nursery maybe go commando? IDK worked for us x

Rainatnight · 08/07/2018 19:49

Woo hoo another, that's great! Bravo!

Wees are reliably going into potty here, but both poos (there've only been two) have ended up on the floor. It's a bit like she's been taken by surprise. Is this normal at the beginning? If you'd asked me, I'd have said her poo awareness was way ahead of wee as she has all the classic pooing signs.

Coldhandscoldheart · 08/07/2018 19:51

Hmm. Well perhaps I’ll try again this week.
We’re all exhausted & im stressing about going back to work next week, when dd2 is struggling with settling at nursery.

anotherangel2 · 08/07/2018 19:54

Often children don’t want to poo outside out their comfort zone (nappy). The Oh crap book says to talk about poo more and take your child specifically with you to the toliet when you poo.

OP I'm such an Oh Crap fan - glad you are too! (Just read the whole thread).

Just in case this helps others on here - the wee cup! Doesn't need to be just for boys, many I've spoken to think it is Confused It helped us with potty refusal, it's quicker if you're taking clothes off for potty and it's portable!

We used an old smoothie maker cup as we were throwing the base into our and wanted to recycle the numerous cups. Came with a lid - perfect!
It's a quick for a wee before we leave the house too. I'm hoping it will help to graduate to a toilet which we need to work on. He's still mostly naked for the potty but as he's quite regular Grin we manage with that just fine and he straddles rather than squats down and I hope that goes in time.

He goes on the toilet at nursery just fine, screams blue nursery at home despite fitted toddler insert which was more £££ Hmm

The wee cup has saved us many times - the most recent on an airplane where the alternative was wee all over the seat. DH had to walk to the loo onboard with a 'shandy' XX

DinoGreen · 09/07/2018 14:29

Day 3 update ... DS did a wee in his potty before we left this morning and stayed dry on our way to nursery (precautionary pull up wasn’t needed). Just really hoping they’ve worked well with him at nursery today. At home I can react instantly as soon as he looks like/says he needs a wee and the potty is right there with us. whereas if he has to get a staff member’s attention and then be taken to the loo, there might be a lot more accidents. Fingers crossed for when I pick him up later!

TillyMint81 · 09/07/2018 23:38

I let him wee in the garden the other day as we were just a bit too far from the potty to make it. Now he keeps coming and telling me 'I did a wee in du garden on du grass' Blush

anotherangel2 · 10/07/2018 08:31

My toddler likes to wee in our garden. We don’t even grass. Other than the garden she is dry now so I think it is a choice.
