I just want to sake ‘For fuck sake DD just sit in the potty for 10 seconds for a try and then we can go out to the aquarium. It’s not that difficult just sit your arse down’.

Five pairs of pants today. Admittedly two of those from falling in the paddling pool. One from a mystery wee I can’t find.
Massive poo accident at nursery yesterday which got sent home 🤢
I sort of hoped it would be easier than this.

Yesterday was a good day but the she pooped in her nappy over night!

Today is her first day at nursery. I really don’t know how many pairs of wet trousers I will get back.

Could the mystery wee be in the potty or toilet? My DD refuses to wipes and pulls but her trousers quickly leading to wee on her leggings.

No, I found it under her table. Le sigh. Not to worry, I think perhaps she was getting tired. Down for nap now, so we’ll see how we go this afternoon.

Only one accident at nursery! Woo hoo. I think I am over promting her at home.

We had a BIG WEE on the floor earlier. Not to worry. Not to worry. God I hope she gets it soon!

She weed in the car front passenger seat when she was playing.

Are you using a particular method? I have read the Oh Crap book but I don’t agree with all of it but DD does have a higher success rate when she is naked which is something the book suggests.

There are methods? She got up the other day & said she wanted to go on the potty, so then we put knickers on & I remind her every hour or so. I think remind should be ‘tell’ really or she doesn’t go.
Yesterday was probably not helped by my having left the potty at nursery, so I’m going to get another one today.

Nursery will be so much better as she will see other kids doing it! She will get it xxx

There are a whole range of methods.

The Oh crap book is long and judgemental. The bits that have taken from it to spend 3 days at home at first completely naked or at least bottom half naked and so they learn when they are weeing and then they learn the signs that they need a wee and they learn to get to the potty or toilet before they wee. If they start to wee you pick them up and put them on the potty and say we wee in the potty. The crap book says you should look out for their ‘wee dance signal’. My DD holds herself when she needs a wee. When they are reliable weeing naked you can then put on easy to get down clothes but no knickers. (You can do clothes out of the house and naked at home.) The next stage she suggests is short trips out of the house, 30 to 40 mins with the potty and then the final stage is long trip out the house. After a month introduce knickers. She suggests that snug knickers feel like a nappy so they just think they are wearing a nappy so they automatically wee.

Gina Ford suggests knickers but no trousers at for the first few days at home. Naked definitely worked well for DD.

I bought two potties, one for upstairs and one for down stairs, a toilet seat insert from IKEA and spare shoes. Everyone in her nursery room is potty training which I think why she is so interested in it and she had already sat on the nursery potty and nappy changes so I just told her she will use nursery potty and she was happy with that. I also had some maternity sheet things that you put in the bed in case your waters broke and I have put one in her car seat just in case. A friend gave us a carry potty.

Sorry for the essay - I have saved you buying a book and reading a boring book. I really don’t think there is one right way to potty train.

Can I grumble here that I just need to get DS1 to ask for it. He has been out of nappies for a year now and is pretty reliably dry even if we are unable to get to a loo for several hours, like on a long car journey, but he still won't ask for the potty except on rare occasions. I have to suggest it to him.

He has struggled with learning to talk and is having speech therapy, which has been really helpful but although he can now ask for "more cocolate binana cake please", and make all manner of screentime related requests, the word potty seems to be purely descriptive in his vocabulary.

Ok, well obviously he can read over my shoulder. I just looked up to find him pulling his trousers down and taking himself for a poo, judging by the smell! I shall make all parenting requests in writing via internet forum posts from now on:

I know the baby looks cute when asleep, but I wish he would stop grasping him, poking him in the chest and yelling "Ahhh baby!" as soon as he drops off.

I’ve mostly had her in knickers, but they’re quite loose. Part of the problem is not seeing her wee, she seems to wait til my backs turned or I’m out of the room.
She managed a poo (mostly) on the loo this morning, but then did a big wee. So who knows? It’s nursery’s problem for the rest of the day

Coldhandscoldheart this apparently is a good sign and it shows she knows going to the toilet is a private activity.

Mines brilliant without any clothes on but as soon as u put knickers on it all goes to pot 😔, how on earth am I meant to leave the house with her fully dressed I'll never know 😩

Well DD has her second day at nursery since starting potty training and she has no accidents. She then came home and announced she was having a wee on the kitchen floor . But she has just had a poo on the potty.

So after this morning’s big floor wee, she had a dry day at nursery, (except for a big water fight).
And then came Home, managed a wee on the potty, I suspect a wee in the paddling pool which will be emptied tomorrow, and a wee on the floor.

Somehow this does feel like progress. Might try a couple of knickers free periods over the weekend.

Small victories are good. Wee is sterile btw.

We have had a few accidents, but they’ve been very close to / on the way to the potty, rather than just on the floor. And a poo in the potty this morning, although I had to carry her there screaming 🙄

I really think we might be getting there!

Hi all... today will be day four of potty training my 2.5 yo DS.... he’s doing fab when naked waist down but as soon as he’s got pants or a loose pair of shorts on he completely forgets! It’s hard work isn’t it! I feel bad as I’m back to work tomorrow so will be up to grandparents (although slightly relieved for a days break!) are you all staying home? Would love for us to get out of the house today but that would require getting him dressed which only ends in disaster!

Not embarking on potty training with my 19mth old dd yet (we tried a few times and she seemed freaked out) but interested to hear more about it.
With this whole naked in the house thing - how does that work with childcare? Is it reasonable to expect the childminder to go out less or juggle a potty and other kids?

My Ds is 3 in September. Flatly refuses to wear pants or have no nappy on. I do ask every day if he wants to try, but no. When he does go without a nappy he clearly
Knows when he needs a wee because he gets really stroppy and demands a nappy back on. I thought we’d crack it in the nice weather where he can just play outside, but he absolutely will not go outside naked/ nappy-less.

He’s old enough to have quite detailed conversations with about the process, I know he understands and it’s just a massive power trip for him. Ironically, he loves sitting on the toilet in his nappy and washing his hands after ‘doing a wee’ bit it’s not actually doing a wee, is it????!!!!

I am at my wits end.

Oooh just the thread I was looking for. I've told DS when this packet of nappies finishes no more nappies!

My question is, is a pull up ok for overnight or do you need a proper nappy? I told DH i'd ask mumsnet as we're not sure.
