Hi, DS is 3 and we've started potty training him today. We were hoping to wait until he woke up one morning and said 'I'm done with nappies thanks very much Mummy - let's go wild with the pants', but this hasn't happened so we thought we'd just try him with nothing on at first and then pants and see how it goes.

Just wondered if anyone else was starting too and wanted to go through it together?

We've done various bits of nappy free time for months with varying amounts of success, but only ever an hour or two here and there with no consistency to see how he was doing and whether we thought he knew when he was weeing or pooing. It's only recently that I've thought that he actually does know hence deciding to give it a go today.

We had a quiet weekend so thought 'no time like the present!'

Now a couple of times in the week we'd had no nappy on and a fair bit of success in the potty. Wednesday = lots of mopping up wees but a few 'hits' at the end of the afternoon. Thursday was better with no accidents. but this was still doing everything bare bum!

Today we were doing pretty well this morning. Everything going in the potty and no accidents, so after lunch we thought we'd try adding pants into the equation. previously pants = accidents (I wonder if he would forget it wasn't a nappy?) so we never persevered with them, but we have this afternoon. Certainly more accidents this afternoon, which is I think a mixture of being tired and the 'pant effect' and we had a very rough few hours between say 3 and 5. Then we've had a few more wees on the potty and going a bit better this evening.

We're planning more of the same tomorrow but we have a birthday party to go to in the afternoon and I'm in a bit of a predicament about that in as much as I don't want to go back to nappies and confuse / demoralise him, but equally don't want loads of accidents at my friend's DDs party so as yet we're undecided. I think at the moment we'll be erring on the side of a nappy as it's just not fair if he has an accident in the middle of the party?

Anyway, anyone who wants to join me for the ride, please come aboard :-)

I'll have Wine, Brew and Biscuit to help the journey go along!

We're on about one accident a day! She's been showing interest for ages but every time we've tried to tackle it she has just wet through. This is the first time we've made any kind of progress.

So today we've had the obligatory accident but the rest of the time she's been great! Even taken herself a couple of times.

Sounds like we're all making progress!

Biscuitsandtea · 21/10/2011 17:23

Just off to get today's progress report from nursery....

Today's report 3 accidents in pants & 2 in potty this morning 2 in potty this afternoon no accidents on the school run or when we up town even tho we went from town to school & than friends & all dry until we got to friends & he wet the floor cos dh was too slow but he done another wee while we were there & we made it to the big toilet in time Grin

Kingsroadie · 21/10/2011 19:20

Biscuits - Sad He WILL get there. At least all the others were okay though?

Pleased to report at this end that we have had NO accidents today! Am very excited about this and even more so as I was out from 12-5 and she was with her nanny (every Friday) and no accidents then either - and she was wearing pants! By jove I think she's getting it... Hopefully Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 21/10/2011 19:26

Oh Kings that's GREAT!! Well done!

Shaz sounds like progress your end too :)

I hope he does get it soon. It's just the poos are so few and far between that it's hard to see any progress.

I think the rest of it was OK - must have been. I was quite late picking him up from nursery so the staff who'd been with him all day had gone and he was in the leftovers collection Blush. I think he had a poo accident and subsequent wee with it, but this is from DS who may or may not be the most accurate and reliable source!

I did think we were getting somewhere with them on Wednesday, but maybe it was just all a bit too much being at nursery. We'll have to see if we can make any headway over the weekend. In a way I'm glad he at least did a poo as if he'd not done one again today I would have been a bit worried that he was holding them back?

Shaz2011 · 21/10/2011 19:29

Best of luck to everyone for tomorrow & don't worry about if they keep having accidents they will get eventually Smile

Kellamity · 22/10/2011 00:02

Good luck for tomorrow everyone! We will all get there! Wink

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 07:25

Ditto - good luck everyone. I am enjoying a few minutes of peace in bed before ds gets up and the onslaught begins.

PLEASE poo in the potty for me ds Confused

monkeybananas · 22/10/2011 13:26

Hi all! accident free today (so far!!)Grin
(though no pops yet!)
Shaz, I think you should send DS to nursery in pants- look how far you've both come, I'd be worried that if you go to pull ups now you'll undo all the hardwork and progress.
Everyone else doing ok today??

Shaz2011 · 22/10/2011 13:58

Thanks monkey but I think my dh has already done that as he has just taken him to the shops in a pull up Angry[sad

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 18:46

Hmmm, bit of a step backwards today :(

All day DS has been really reluctant to go to the potty or toilet. Whereas before he was really good at taking himself or telling us, today has been different. He would say 'I need a wee wee' and then you'd say 'well lets go to the toilet then' and then he would flat out refuse to go 'I don't want to, I don't need a wee' etc. Quite argumentative about it really :( I'm pretty sure e did really want to go as he would be doing that sort of hopping thing they do.

Normally if I could coerce him to go to the toilet, he would then do a wee so he did really need to go, just really didn't want to.

I could see this brewing into an accident and sort of felt like if he was so insistent that he didn't want to go (even after he had said he wanted to, or was doing that sort of crotch grabbing they do when they want to go), that in the end he was going to have an accident but maybe this would help him to see why he has to go to the toilet iysim?. Anyway, the inevitable accident eventually happened when we got home - his first wee accident since last Sunday (apart from one that came with a poo yesterday at nursery) :(

In a way I'm glad that all his 'sillyness' resulted in an accident, well not glad, but I just felt like it was brewing and then once he'd had the accident I could say 'this is why we have to go to the toilet'.

Now having said all that, while I've been typing he has just entirely unprompted done a poo on the potty! Grin Just in time for his 7 o clock sugar treat Confused

Ha ha, maybe we'll have a week of wee disasters and poo successes now??

Would like him to get one more wee in the potty today in his usual reliable style but it might be a bit close to bedtime so we'll see how we go....

How's everyone else done?

Shaz2011 · 22/10/2011 18:52

Mine was upsetting for me Sad cos dh put him in a pull up to go to the shop & didnt change him so he was in a pull up for the rest of the day so tomorrow will b back in pants & see how we go Confused

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 18:55

Oh good luck Shaz - hope you get more pant time tomorrow. Did he do anything in the pull up? Or still go to the potty or anything?

OP posts:
Shaz2011 · 22/10/2011 19:11

He done wees in pull up but it wasn't alot but he did a wee in potty before he got in the bath Smile & done several wees this morning before he got put in the pull up

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 19:24

Do I sense that your DH is a bit less than keen to get left with wet pants Shaz?Confused.

Sounds like your ds is doing well anyway if he hardly did anything in the pull up Smile

Our ds just got in the bath and then asked to get out to do a wee and did a great wee on the loo which is good. I always feel if they can end the day on a good one then it is so much nicer, so we ended the day with a poo on the potty and a wee in the loo and it sort of makes you (and hopefully our dc's) forget about the earlier accidents...

Shaz2011 · 22/10/2011 19:41

A bit my dh can't face facts that his ds is growing up it's the same with nursery on Thursday he said he will probaly be more Sad than my ds, but I have told him heis ready he shouldn't worry about the wet pants as I am the one that does all the washing but I think he is beginning to come to terms with it Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 19:47

Ah it is hard isn't it that they are growing up so fast SadConfused

Kingsroadie · 22/10/2011 19:52

We've had a fairly good day here - no accidents in the morning and she used her travel potty in the park. Had a small wee escape this afternoon as my husband was reading to her and sort of ignored her signs/asking. Same happened in the bath - didn't listen when she said "daddy"/"mummy" and she did a small poo and was upset. But those weren't really her fault and I do feel like we are nearly there!

Well done everyone else - esp Biscuits poo in potty! Grin And don't be disheartened everyone - they are doing very well...

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 20:01

Oh that sounds a pretty good day all in all Kings

Onwards and upwards ladies. Am so enjoying my pizza and Strictly this evening without negotiating ds to the toilet all the time!
