Welcome weary travellers. It's been a long road, but you made it! Now, hard as it might be, leave your ESH spawn at the creche and step into the spa - where we have every treatment available to soothe your Amityville Horror undercarriage, ravaged raspberries and worn out wits. And - wait for it - we've got the bar back. And it's all-inclusive

So, what are you waiting for? Grab a glass, lower yourself into the jacuzzi and lets get chatting. We are Forever ESH!

Flipping heck Rots! Most of the male pro riders out there weigh well more than 11.5st! How rude and unnecessary to put such an arbitary limit on it. There are physically heavier riders out there who ride light, and smaller riders who bounce around like a sack of spuds. Many of our native pony breeds were bred with a view to carrying immense dead weights as pack ponies and found it a light relief when a big fat farmer got on them. As Ski said, my old lad was bred and designed, and FULLY capable of carrying 17 stone over tricky country all day. Find somewhere with a sensible viewpoint on it - they are out there!

organiccarrotcake · 05/09/2010 10:57

Well the other wierdo was that they wouldn't do school lessons at all. They take them out on hacks and claim they will learn it all there. Am I being old fashioned? I'm absolutely pro hacking (duh) and it's got to be fun. But a) I'm nervous about my beginner 5yo being set loose (on a lead rein but that can go wrong) before he's got some basic skills and b) surely to really see what's going on some school work is needed? What happens when they learn to jump?

Thanks for the weight support. I started feeling like a fat heifer :( I will take your advice and look around.

Stoopid as this may sound I also felt it was too cheap - £15/hour? Any thoughts? fanny what's your Yorkshire feeling on this?

BTW meant to say I dead chuffed that rastie n bear got nice comments re happy nappy stuff :)

SkiHorseWonAWean · 05/09/2010 12:18

haha boxer Yes, Dartmoor ponies designed for example to carry escaped prisoners back to town! Wink Highland ponies to carry families up and down hills, Shetland ponies - OK, not sure what their purpose is but could carry 12 stone for a small while! IMO only New Forest ponies are weedy little shites. Abroad Icelandics, Fjords and Haflingers all carry grown men. Precious twats. I agree with you rots, teaching on a hack is not the way to go. Hmm

boxer The woman who owns Cullinghood - is her name Maggie? For some reason that rings a bell.

Backinthebox · 05/09/2010 13:17

Rots my mum used to pay £8 an hour for my riding lessons 33 years ago. £15 an hour sounds cheap. Have you been to watch their lessons in progress? Are they BHS approved? (They should have a 2010 BHS plaque on the wall if they are.)

Ski yes, the Cullinghood woman is called Maggie. Bonkers, she is. Shetlands were bred to have little legs to go down t'pits and pull the coal wagons or carry the coal in baskets back out. Depends on the New Forest you get - we used to have a 14.2hh NF and she carried OH easily - off at a bit of a gallop in fact! (And he's 6'3" and weighs about 12 stone.)

Once I am back into riding and back at work (so I can afford it!) I am having me a 14hh tall and 14hh wide little weight carrier so I can hack about with DD, and I expect other family members to be able to ride it too. The racehorse is probably going to stay, and will probably be no good to hack out with tiny tots with, but I can't pass up the opportunity to have something so fast and so easy to jump which cost so little money - for years I had to boot big horse everywhere we went to get him to move faster than a snail's pace! OH is happy with the idea of having 2 cheap horses instead of one really big expensive one.

SilverSky · 05/09/2010 13:47

One of my local schools the limit is 14 stone.

Teaching on a hack is not the done thing. Plus it's a very lazy way of teaching cos what can you teach if you are lead file of say 6 kids!!

Did anyone have any thoughts on my OR boots rubbing? Can I doctor them? I have put green oils on the sores (which have scabbed - bad momma) and he is sound as a pound ! Gallopped across the field like an Arab stallion!

CUNextTuesday · 05/09/2010 15:38

but what if one doesn't ride?

organiccarrotcake · 05/09/2010 15:45

cunty does not compute.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 05/09/2010 16:14

Yay! fanny took the prize! Wink

silver I'd be very surprised if nag was unsound over a bit of rubbing/blistery type stuff! I use these (when I do) www.profchoice.com/htmldocs/prd/protgear/prd/bb25x.html - no rubbing, no slipping because there's a nob holds them in place. I will say though that I didn't get anywhere near that price as Belgian shops are bastard rip-offs. :(

cunty Then you should start - Richmond Park is without shouting distance for you.

Backinthebox · 05/09/2010 17:07

Silver have you tried Equichaps instead? they don't rub and they come down over the back of the hoof. I used them on big horse for a bit when he helpfully tried to remove the rear portion of his front hoof on the side of a water trough Hmm. They are pricey but they last forever, and when I sold mine I got a good price for them.

SilverSky · 05/09/2010 18:34

Ta for the tips will investigate. Horse is not having good of it. Is v unhappy in new turnout group. Will settle bit by bit each day but at the mo horse just waits by the gate in hope of rescue. Poor thing. Feel mean but hoss will get over it.

Yay for LENAMORE!!!!!!! Who watched??

Got so much to do at home but I am knackered having walked the dog (see deli for details) and doing the stables run. Now I am back in my rightful place on the sofa. The washing machine is on so I am not a complete lazy ass.

FannyPriceless · 05/09/2010 21:35

New FESH alert!!Grin Throw open the doors and prepare the post-natal massage table. Champagne on ice.Grin

Thanks for all the feeding and dummy suggestions. I will look into all the advice and get back on that. I'm rying to have a day off worrying about it today.

rots When we use a riding school we go here. You'll see that they have a 'strict weight limit for participants of 16 stone'. That's how we do it in North Yorkshire!Wink They would never let anyone new straight out on a hack, no matter how good they say they are. First timers have to do 1/2 hour in the school then can follow that with a hack if commpetent and happy with the horse. Also adult lessons / hacks are between £20 - £35 for an hour.

We went to the beach today. I managed to BF discretely (at least I think it was - no teenagers complained so farWink).

SilverSky · 06/09/2010 06:00

Morning all. Been awake since 4.45 am. Rubbsih. My mind is working overtime worrying about things . Not baybee related worrying. Other shiz and prob not considered worthy or losing sleep over such trivia but as am emotional preggo situ's always seem worse.

fp wish I had put money on naming the next FESH/ graduate from the Deli!! I'd be a squillionaire!!!!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 06/09/2010 06:20

silver I hear ya - I slept terribly during my pregnancy and was up before the larks most mornings - on a couple of occasions, awake from 1am... and went to work. Ugh. :(

I'm a terrible worrier too. Sadly not one of those who goes off their grub... Hmm

About the dog yesterday - I would be absolutely mortified if my dog made an arsehole of itself at a show - seriously, seriously embarrassed! Which is why they're left at home!

I think we need to spank through the rest of this thread so we can start a new one for the wave of September baybees.

So do your jibba jabba for another 10 posts and think of a new fred name.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 06/09/2010 06:22

rots, fanny's stables look great and they've got a Pony Club to abandon introduce LC to the world of poniez.

Backinthebox · 06/09/2010 08:51

Silver - "fp wish I had put money on naming the next FESH/ graduate from the Deli!! I'd be a squillionaire!!!!" Really short odds on that one - you'd have got your stake back and just a few pennies.

Agree on Burghley-dog thing. Clucky and I were watching it yesterday and were not impressed. Clucky has same type of dog but hangs onto it veeery tight! (Although Clucky is sporting attendee extraordinaire and her DD can be heard wailing throughout the entire winning SJing round from this year's Badminton on the BBC Grin. Tis my turn to embarrass myself this year though and will be taking new baybee to Olympia, so set your Skyplus and stand by for more wailing.)

Backinthebox · 06/09/2010 08:55

BTW Fanny's stables look good for lessons, but £66 for a 2 hour weekend hack? Shock Now I know why I got so many numpty replies to my advert which started 'Wanted: Competent, confident rider for big horses....'

SkiHorseWonAWean · 06/09/2010 09:25

boxer Normal I think. :( Here it's 70 euros for the 2 hour hack, you pay for your own pub lunch and tbh I think it's more about the drinking than riding.

iggypiggy · 06/09/2010 10:27

cossie had her baybee!!! A boy, yesterday!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 06/09/2010 10:37

YaY!! Grin

CluckyKate · 06/09/2010 11:08

Am thinking more robust harness will be required for doglet next year tho....was scary seeing her double chasing that horse.

66 smackers for 2 hours [gasp]....must remind DH how much money I am saving then - the cost:benefit analysis def. stacks up on those prices even if I am only riding once or twice a week.

CluckyKate · 06/09/2010 11:12

Box - DD has picked up tummy bug over & projectiled all over the car....hope your's hasn't got it too.
Fingers crossed the r-r-r-reflex lady works her magic on you today.

CluckyKate · 06/09/2010 11:13

Whoops - that should have said "over the weekend".....am now so absent minded am forgetting to write whole sentences [doh]

Backinthebox · 06/09/2010 11:19

Ah, that could explain why she has spent the morning being weepy and has taken herself back off to bed. I blame it on the NCT!

Reflex lady says baybee is quiet - calm before the storm - but could be a couple more days yet. So I'm going for the double whammy and got the osteo lady tomorrow for serious talking too, and reflex lady is now going to do a 10 min birth-blast every morning after she's dropped her kids off at school. Tis not too far out of the way for her, and she is addicted to scrambled egg breakfasts now!

organiccarrotcake · 06/09/2010 11:37

oh box - olympia with baybee? i haz olympia story will share later. u think its ok 2 go with baybee? haven't been for a couple of years coz of lc but used 2 go every year. wonder if there are tickets left. mind u dunno if we will be here. which day/evening r u going?
