BB if it's any help DS1 just started primary school and didn't know a soul there, noone from his nursery went on to his school, and he's settling in just fine. Pick the pre school you like best and don't worry too much about the future, is my advice Grin

RespectTheDoughnut · 10/10/2010 23:21

Pre-schools? Really? We're supposed to be thinking about that? [aghast]

Hello NL :)

The maybedate - I think it was intended to be a date, but having not seen each other for over a year, it was possible to imagine that it could work out that way. In reality, no. He is the only platonic straight male friend I've ever managed (usually it's only been a one way attraction - I don't sleep with all of my friends!) & I'm quite pleased that it didn't go that way actually. Despite two bottles of wine, several vodkas (my alcohol tolerance magically came back in celebration of my birthday Grin) & a very good night, including my first trip to a casino, there wasn't even an attempt at a kiss. It became quite funny that it might have seemed like a good idea, because there's just no spark. I do love him, though - I had a fab time.

I'm feeling really quite cheery tonight, but soooo tired. It's been a busy weekend & now there's another long weekend ahead. But at least my hangover's worn off now. Bedtime, I think.

PuzzleRocks · 11/10/2010 10:09

Glad you had a good time chickie.

We had a great Saturday. 10 of us went to a restaurant we really love for my Mum's birthday. The girls were charming and beautifully behaved despite being up late. It was a fantastic evening and left me with a lovely (possible wine-related) glow.
Naturally the next day was crap with both waking up with stinking colds. [sigh]

BB - Have you looked at mumsnet local? Could be that lots of people plan to use the preschool but not the school so you wouldn't necessarily be seprarating him from friends?

BoffinMum · 11/10/2010 13:34

We put Felix down for a private one in the spring, and I am planning to try to get him into a state nursery class as well, but we are not technically eligible for any state nursery education provision at all, as there is none in our area, and we are out of the catchment area for nursery schools in town. Our local authority has no intention of providing anything either. Confused

Our nanny was very insulted at first when we visited the nursery, as she said "I am highly traiend and perfectly capable of delivering the early years curriculum myself in its full form" then realised we just wanted him to learn to line up and not whack children with plastic objects, etc etc. She calmed down after that! Wink

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 11/10/2010 13:47

I am a bit mystified by the whole pre-school thing, as DS1's nursery just had a pre school teacher as one of their staff and the big kids did pre school in the morning and then normal nursery in the afternoon. Very easy.

Good teacher, too.

Hello NL! Sorry I posted and ran last night so only just saw your post! Am technically at work right now so will post more later on....

Bicnod · 11/10/2010 20:24

I'm sooooooooo excited - me and Wriggly are going to see The Pogues at Brixton Academy in December GrinGrin anyone else fancy it?

Pre-schools? Noooooooo my baby is a BABY he will not ever NEVER be big enough to go to school

Puzzle, sounds like a lovely evening :) boo to colds though :(

BB - you coming to the Christmas get together or WOT? O is much better thanks, he actually slept through last night which made my Monday morning slightly more tolerable.

PuzzleRocks · 11/10/2010 20:29
was the last band I saw at Brixton. So whilst I love the venue, and the company, I will say no. Grin

Let me know if you ever fancy a mosh though.

Bicnod · 11/10/2010 21:40

Hehe Grin The Pogues were the first gig I ever went to when I was 14 so they hold a special place in my heart...

Schulte · 12/10/2010 13:31

I haven't recovered from my Saturday night yet Grin Did some wild dancing, then my friend nearly got into a fight with some silly woman at Waterloo. And there's more fun lined up for tonight with a bunch of nursery mums coming round for a booze up and pizza!

DD1 has just started in a lovely little preschool but they make no effort whatsoever to teach the early years curriculum, which is fine by me. She'll learn stuff soon enough.

H is signed up to start there next autumn.

WFH if you hate your job, leave. I am doing it and while it's scary, it also feels like the right thing to do.

BB did you still want to talk about what I could do for your agency as a freelancer? Text me?

Bicnod - yep Xmas - what date is it again? I'll put it in the diary x Glad O is better.

Schultes. Yes will text tomorrow. You want to come in Friday or Monday and meet my bosses and we can go grab some lunch?

Puzz, no I haven't will do though - thanks!

I am up watching the miners come up. It's AMAZING (but I am very tired and I have cried a fair bit too). 31 is up. Almost done. Yay!

PuzzleRocks · 14/10/2010 08:56

I have been welling up every time.

What a fantastic result. I am so delighted that every went well. I hope they now get some space to recover.

Schulte · 15/10/2010 12:49

I wanted to cry too. Especially when I saw the miners hug their children. Ahhhhhhh.

BB I can do Monday lunchtime, if you text me where and when? x

Hello

Huge apologies. Having trouble catching up but don't want to lose the thread.

AuldAlliance · 18/10/2010 22:16

Coucou ladies!
Very exciting here, no petrol in the petrol stations, school pupils out protesting at pension reforms, c'est la révolution.
I'm off to bed, though. My banner-waving days are over.

B52s · 19/10/2010 09:27

Morning! Have my hernia op today - feel surprisingly upbeat about it.
Sam doing well - running about with his arms in the air - looks like a little lemur. Plenty of green snot at the moment but it doesn't seem to bother him.

AuldAlliance · 19/10/2010 12:53

All the best for the operation, B52.

I saw the knee surgeon yesterday. He was very arrogant convincing as to the need for intervention and the benign nature of the op: keyhole surgery, go in to the clinic in the morning, home and walking by evening, no sports for a month, and Bob est votre oncle (as he didn't say). Slightly increased risk of arthritis in the knee where the meniscus has been shaved off (you don't say!), but he glossed over that, naturally.

I've not booked a date for the op yet, and I'd have to look at flights, see what we are doing at Christmas, etc. but I could possibly make the meet-up, if the offer of a suite at the Bofferie is still on...

BEWITCHEDnod · 19/10/2010 19:22

Oh blimey Auld, you're having exactly the same op as DH had. He recovered well but he certainly wasn't walking happily the same day. Make sure you book in at least a few days rest. French surgeons do seem to be quite arrogant in my extensive experience of one. When I broke my back snowboarding in France the neurosurgeon was adamant that I needed surgery. Luckily DH insisted they email my scans to his surgeon mates in UK and they said it could be managed conservatively without needing surgery. The French neurosurgeon didn't like it one bit when DH told him this. Having insisted he couldn't speak English he suddenly responded with 'I do not need the counsel of the British neurosurgeons' Grin

Yay that you might be able to make the meet-up - that would be so amazing Grin

B52 hope op went well today.

Schulte - update on work situation please. And when am I ever going to see you again?!!

Wriggly - if you're lurking our tix came today... so excited Grin

CHRISTMAS MEET UP DATE IS 18TH DECEMBER STICK IT IN YOUR DIARIES - I'll post on FB when we're organising where, when etc. Incidentally, I was browsing through last year's diary (as you do) and noticed that the Christmas meet up last year was also on 18th December - this is clearly going to become a fanjo warrior tradition.

BoffinMum · 20/10/2010 14:51

Auld, your usual room at the Bofferie is prepared ... Grin

B52s · 20/10/2010 15:25

ooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

AuldAlliance · 20/10/2010 19:03

Sympathy for you, B52.

Cheers, Boff, will try and work out whether I can do the trip affordably.

Just got back from a 770km round drive to hand DS1 over to my mum, with whom he is flying to the UK for 10 days. Am shattered.

BoffinMum · 20/10/2010 19:33

770km? Shock
Why not just put him on a plane as an unaccompanied minor? They spoil them rotten ...

AuldAlliance · 20/10/2010 20:43

Because the airlines I can afford don't offer UM;

because even if I'd had the cash for him to fly UM with a proper airline from our nearest airport, none do a direct flight and he'd have had to cross Paris alone to another airport to get a connecting flight, or spend a night alone in London;

because my Mum was already in France, flying from that airport with a cheapo airline, booked months and months ago, when my workplace finally revealed this year's calendar and it transpired yet again that he'd have to be farmed out somewhere, so I scrabbled to find a way to organise things;

(betcha wish you'd never asked, eh?)

Actually, it was a tiring, but very beautiful drive.

BoffinMum · 20/10/2010 22:08

OKOKOK
I see! Grin
