....where we ditch the talk of babies/lack of sleep etc and concentrate on some Salient Social Planning

  • where to meet
  • when to meet
  • what to wear
  • what to drink
Who's up for it then ladies?

I'm not managing my monthly book club either . The refusing-to-be-put-to-bed baby's usual charms have deserted her by 9pm.

scooby26 · 24/07/2010 20:11

Im up for york.we all landing at arcadies marquee?! Train tickets will be on sale now and cheap ones go quick. Do you all know about family railcard? You have to buy a seat for baby but still normally cheaper x

Arcadie · 24/07/2010 23:31

Well I'll be in York on 18th and 19th.... see what this or this come up with....

Arcadie · 24/07/2010 23:33

and this is pretty close to Arcadian Towers.

Arcadie · 24/07/2010 23:35

I want to see Pacific's huge vehicle....hmm?

sunshinesarahandco · 31/07/2010 08:37

lol!

MummyElk · 02/08/2010 10:08

morning all
Bumping - how many do we have for the weekend of the 18/19th then?
RKD
Scooby
iwcas
pacific
donttry
heckle
bmi
smac
Melk

i think rkd's got a point - at this stage, we might be looking more at guest houses rather than cottages (unless someone fancies a little trawl through the various cottages websites- i keep trying to but evenings are, er, interesting at the moment....!)
BUT guest houses might not be as accommodating as cottages and in a way self catering would ensure much cooking/drinking/laughter....eating out less so I'd think?

OR.....we could camp...?!!!

OR we could go for October. I know, i know.....

Anyway tonight I will do some serious accommodation searches, I just did a quick one and found some LOVELY ones....but way beyond our budget range...

right DD1 needs me

Just marking my space.

Like the vehicle link, Arcadie Grin; you think the interior is as tough as the exterior looks?? In that case I might even be interested...

We are still on for the 18th, will try and do some accomodation searches tomorrow.

Or ask BIL whether he would like to play host to, oooh 10+ Mners with babies in tow, teehee!

Sariska · 10/08/2010 12:00

Cross fingers I have toddler care sorted out for 18/19 so hope to be able to come along. And have found out that I can get a direct train from where I live to York in only 4 1/2 hours. Was expecting at least 2 changes in an 8 hr marathon journey. What will it be like for you from West Wales, Smac?

I had a look at laterooms.com and there are a few possibilities at a variety of prices. Is the idea that we all stay in the same place? If so, we need to talk about budgets, which I suspect will vary.

Serviced appts sound like a good plan as long as they take babies - not all do - and can provide cots for those that want them. A serviced appt would also be a better place than a hotel room for us all to congregate and maybe have a few drinks Grin.

BusyMissIzzy · 13/08/2010 14:59

Wow, it's only 5 weeks tomorrow till the 18th, we need to get moving if we're going to book transport and accomodation (says she who has done nothing towards helping to plan it so far).

If we're booking somewhere en masse, like a cottage or something, I don't mind paying up front and collecting from you all when I see you, if that helps.

scooby26 · 19/08/2010 20:33

is there a decision ladies? Only about 3 weeks away?!! Ill look tomorrow on the web for apartments x

BusyMissIzzy · 22/08/2010 22:04

Bumping, as it's getting close now! I'm happy to search for accomodation if someone can point me at what sort of thing we're looking for. I don't really know York at all though.

Is everyone who wants to come along on MummyElk's list above? Also, is anyone bringing DH/DP for childcare, or is it strictly ladies and babies?

scooby26 · 23/08/2010 18:01

I can come and happy to stay wherever- apartments were suggested but I've struggled to find any in York- mite be more in Leeds which is the same train line. If we decide soon train tickets will still be cheap if we leave it much longer it won't be financially sensible for most people- u know how train companies are to overcharge! Could always decide times and location and book hotel last minute. I know hotels aren't ideal set-up but better than nothing. I can get 241 at holiday inns and crown plaza- so 90 quid for two nights in leeds

scooby26 · 23/08/2010 18:53

Crowne plaza Leeds city centre 70 per room for two night stay. If you share you will thus pay 35 quid for two nights!

Sounds good scooby, is there a 2 night minimum? I'm not sure I can manage 2 nights without DH! . A big hotel like that should have plenty of cots, right?

scooby26 · 24/08/2010 20:09

yeah 2 night minimum on that deal

evitas · 24/08/2010 21:09

Oh... I'm so unhappy. I wanted so much to join you, but I'm going to Portugal that weekend to a friend's wedding.
Anyway, maybe another opportunity will come. Enjoy and have fun

IMO getting a guesthouse for the 18th would be ideal, but we've left it pretty late. If not possible, a hotel for the same date. Postponing is also an option, but starting again from scratch is going to mess with who can or can't make it. The guesthouses RKD mentioned above all look fine (at a glance) to me, but I suppose it depends on the price. Also Claxton Hall Cottage mentions "Tea and cake on arrival", so that one obviously has the edge :)

BlueyDragon · 29/08/2010 00:00

Gah, can't make it as we are on holiday. I'm still up for a South meet up tho.
