....where we ditch the talk of babies/lack of sleep etc and concentrate on some Salient Social Planning

  • where to meet
  • when to meet
  • what to wear
  • what to drink
Who's up for it then ladies?

Yeah, I am no longer tethered by my breast

I am so please that the MMMM may actually come to pass - well done for initiating action, MummyElk.

a York would suit me really well as I'd have a place to stay there (BIL), but I'd consider anywhere in the country for the wonderful Mad Marchers
b Before 1.10.10 - end of mat leave
c Anything 'decorated' with milky spit stains
d Dry white wine and lots of water for me please

How about looking for some kind of selfcatering place? Presumably we will all be travelling with little people, non?

Arcadie pricks up her stalker ears... where your BIL? Was he the one just outside of York to the north? Or am I remembering from my other PN thread?

Blimey - I'll see if I can persuade DH to let me out overnight - it may or may not happen depending on how our finances look. If we did York I'm LARFING... And if we did London I could get a GP to babysit. Anywhere else and a weekend would be more useful as DH can have the bigguns.

pureeandpearls · 29/04/2010 22:20

me, me, me, I'm in.

a) whenever
b) wherever
c) whatever....fits

pureeandpearls · 29/04/2010 22:21

d) whatever....is cheapest and most alcoholic < stares into midddle distance remembering teenage years and Diamond White and Pulp on the radio....>

PacificDogwood · 29/04/2010 22:24

Oh, it would need to be a weekend here too unless you want me to show up with 4 thugs DCs .

Arcadie, no, you remember correctly. Bil and family stay in Flawith near Alne.

I went to a hen weekend many, many, many moons ago (after DS1) in Cornwall where the Chief Bridesmaid had rented a cottage for the 20(!) of us. We all paid our share, shared rooms and bathrooms and what money was saved on hotel rooms went towards booze activities: we went body boarding .

Let's see what numbers show an interest, eh?

I am off to bed, night-night x.

Sariska · 29/04/2010 23:10

Me, me, me too!

Very flexible on where. London / The North / lovely self-catering cottage with maternity nurse all sound great.

Weekends best for me as DH (who owes me more than one childminding favour) can babysit (or toddler-sit as I guess babies may be coming along).

What to wear? Dunno but it's a good reason to get cracking on losing the muffin top and go shopping.

Drink: way back when at university my housemates and I were famed for our punch. It could fell an unsuspecting male in one glass. So I wouldn't want to make that again. It's wine all the way for me now. Just think: what could be better - us all sharing chilled white wine on a balmy summer's evening while our babies sleep peacefully (and independently) in their prams / travel cots......

BusyMissIzzy · 29/04/2010 23:15

Body boarding eh PD? Imagine how buoyant we must all be at the moment with our integrated flotation devices AKA mahoosive BFing norks! And would I be cheating if I used my tummy overhang as a sail?

I would be up for MMMM, definitely, although I feel the need to confess beforehand to being quite shy (I know, I'm 28 fgs, should get over myself) and even less witty and interesting in RL.

a) London would suit me best but I'd be willing to travel.
b) whenever
c) oh God, just thinking about clothes depresses me. Maybe I should change my answer to b) to whenever I've managed to lose about 2 stone?
d) I'm not fussy!

MummyElk · 30/04/2010 08:00

Morning all
firstly PHEW..had visions in the night that this thread would still be empty....Glad to see you all!
busy firstly yes i also confess to some nervousness about meeting you all and even more than that, i have a wonderful dear friend who tells me, quite honestly, that I am MUCH funnier online than in RL. She says it with a smile!! so don't panic. I'll sit in the corner with you drinking the dregs of sariska's punch

baby crying upstairs, back in a bit.

MummyElk · 30/04/2010 08:37

So.....
a) don't mind, York actually wouldn't be the worst place (logistics-wise), or somewhere middling like Derby...or london i suppose but it would make things more expensive...
b) don't mind. school hols makes sense (but we need to get cracking for summer). Or October half term?
c) was slightly joking on the what to wear front but I am planning on stealing pd's ballgown and long gloves from those dark antenatal days...
d) jeez i'm not fussy, i'll take rkd's flat white and then either leave it to go cold like Every Other Hot Drink In My Life or abandon it with haste once the good stuff gets cracked open

Are we bringing DHs to babysit? I'm sort of assuming not but the odd one might be useful. Visions of us all taking over a cottage for the weekend and the boys huddling together in one room glancing nervously at each other as cackling echoes through from the kitchen....

IWCAS I had to stop DS3 pulling Joe's bits just the other night...

Naw, no boys, I mean grown-up boys (babies are allowed); I need mine to mind the rest of the troops so I can drink in peace .

I would of course travel anywhere with reasonable traffic links in the UK, but London just sounds a bit nightmarish to me - yes, I am a chicken. Glad somebody mentioned expensive, phew, there's a good excuse!

We are on holiday first 2 weeks in July so outwith that time would be better.

Also October school week (is it the same in England and Scotland?) I know already I will have to work .

I know, I know: Arcadie sends her family away for a weekend, apart from Simeon of course, and we take over her house! There, sorted !!

PacificDogwood · 30/04/2010 09:59

PS: I am not witty OR socially adept OR competent mother in RL.

This is going to be group counselling, I can just see it !

Arcadie · 30/04/2010 16:35

Will speak to DH about them buggering off allowing us the run of the small 3 bed semi for a weekend. Who's topping and tailing with me in the king size bed?

siamesecatwoman · 30/04/2010 16:54

Im on board

North is best for me - and as I know York well, that'll do me fine. London I think would be terrifying for me - it was prior to having baby, now Ive no idea how you would use the tube with a buggy? Are there lifts??

Summer sounds great - I expect LO's mostly will turn 6mths in sept and start weaning so maybe most convienent while all/ most on liquid diets?

Ill be wearing a skirt as Ive finally got my legs waxed. I will not be wearing a crop top ever again because of stretch marks.. also, is not the 80's..

Ill be drinking baileys thanks!

BMI Im shy and antisocial on first meeting - most people think Im stuck up and a bitch until I beat them meet them again and have a drink..

I think we know waaaay too much about each others DH's Dp's for them to ever meet - and my DH knows a fair amount about you guys too!!!!

FlipFantasia · 30/04/2010 17:16

Hurrah for clever thread planning! I'm in for a MMMM (even if I've forgotten what the 4 Ms stand for now )

A day trip to York sounds fab. It's long been on my list of UK cities to see and the home of Arcadie must be a pretty special place . I'd happily train it up from London (we got even try and book the Londoners onto the same train innit).

On dates, anytime works for me including a Saturday. I'd prefer not to do a Sunday, only cos engineering works can make train journeys annoying on Sundays...

Agree it would be easier to try and fit this in before we all start weaning so July/Aug?

hecklephone · 30/04/2010 22:48

Count me in! How exciting to have a meet-up! I'm excited and slightly apprehensive in case NONE of you are how I imagine you to be and all my illusions are shattered by reality...

a) York suits me too I reckon - I made the trip for a weekend in November and it was a pretty easy train journey from Scotland and a lovely city!

b) agree the summer would probably be a good time, if we can get sorted in time. Personally weekends and weekdays suit fine cos DH is a teacher and therefore off work for a ridiculously long time anyway and can hopefully take charge of DD1.

c) the mother's uniform, of course - jeans! and undoubtedly something from Next, in whom I should buy shares.

d) I'll start with a cappuccino please...and did someone mention wine? Red or white, I'm not fussy!

annamama · 01/05/2010 17:50
  • York sounds ok, it's sort of in the middle of the country so pretty fair to everyone I guess?
  • summer Saturday
  • something not too slummy, note to self: must remember to not leave house still dressed in pyjama pants and dirty old t-shirt
  • oooh I'd drink anything me, am also a bit shy, but more chatty after a drink or -10- 2
PacificDogwood · 01/05/2010 21:58

Should MrArcadie be totally unreasonable and not give us the run of their house we could stay here.

PacificDogwood · 01/05/2010 22:06

Or this
