....where we ditch the talk of babies/lack of sleep etc and concentrate on some Salient Social Planning

  • where to meet
  • when to meet
  • what to wear
  • what to drink
Who's up for it then ladies?

back from lovely weekend in dorset.....LOOOOVVEE the pd cottage searching. and the interest in york...(rkd how did you swing that?!!)
DH said exactly what i did about us all meeting - he sort of frowned and said, um...holiday romance alert, what if you all hate each other?!!!
Yeah whatever....not possible surely

OP posts:
Sariska · 03/05/2010 23:44

But shouldn't everyone experience a holiday romance at least once????

And, anyway, some of them have happy endings so nerrr to negative DHs (says she who hasn't yet even told her DH about these plans).

MummyElk · 05/05/2010 20:13

pureeandpearls · 07/05/2010 20:50

PacificDogwood · 07/05/2010 21:26

No, I haven't yet, puree, but if you are volunteering...

MummyElk · 10/05/2010 08:34

me too pd
I think we need to pull rkd back in, she's a hoot at this whole planning thing. (i am too but she likes the responsibility )

August is pretty much a write-off for me...so I'm going to bite the bullet and suggest the last weekend of July...
Any takers?

If not I'll do a list of dates and people can initial next to it.

Last weekend in July as in the 31st or 24/25th (my wedding anniversary). Should be ok!

Sariska · 10/05/2010 09:54

Ummm....the only dates I can't do at the moment are 24/25 July. Is that what is meant by the last w/e of July? Next one is fine tho.

snowflakesarahandco · 10/05/2010 10:29

im in too- again anywhere with train links from birmingham ICWAS i could travel with u !!!lol

Shroomer · 10/05/2010 11:31

last weekend in July good for me. York good do. Er, I'm quiet in RL, tend to stay in shell... No cottage is going to be big enough! We need a manor house.

Arcadie · 10/05/2010 12:14

Clxton Hall Cottages have been recommended by a chum here
Last weekend July ..... if that's the 31st then I'm afraid I can't - I'm on a summer camp with 60 teenagers...

Arcadie · 10/05/2010 12:15

Can do 24/25 but I see that Sariska can't.

evitas · 10/05/2010 15:23

Hi, I'm also in
I've never been to York, so it's seems perfect!
24/25 or last 31st should be ok.

PD does you being away for the first two weeks of july rule out the 17th/18th july?

OP posts:
MummyElk · 11/05/2010 21:46

rkd look away now...

is York too far for people? Do we need to consider other slightly further south options??????
Just thinking of 7 hr trains from wales etc....

OP posts:
scooby26 · 11/05/2010 22:27

Evening all

Sorry I can come too!! Ignore Shroomers claims of quietness - Ive met her remember!!! (only joking - be good to catch up again!)

York - sounds logical - on main rail line
Anytime before weaning!! (sensible suggestion!!)
Combats and trainers - slummy mummy here!!
Quicker to say what not to drink!!!

pureeandpearls · 12/05/2010 08:33

to be honest the idea of travelling to York with two children on my own is a bit scary so I may bail on you. [wobbly lip emoticon]

Pingpong · 12/05/2010 11:26

yes it would be a 7 hour train journey for me from Wales to York! How far north are you heckle?
Birmingham would be about a 4 hour train ride for me and the same from Glasgow.
I don't want to be a party pooper but won't it be difficult to find accommodation during the school holidays? I rent out self catering accommodation in Scotland and the school holidays get booked up really quickly but that is a popular seaside destination. . . . .
Claxton Hall with tea and cake on arrival does sound lovely though
Is pixie coming with the twins? She still hasn't put any pictures on FB - she might be a hairy trucker after all!
I think I'm quite flexible with dates. I will need to be nice to MIL to see if she will take DD1 for an overnighter. June/July would probably be fine. August I'm hoping to be back in Scotland by the seaside

FlipFantasia · 12/05/2010 12:38

P&P would it help if us southerners arranged to get the train from London together? [assumes train is preferred transport option]

I'm flexible on dates in July so will wait for a date to be decided [hopes we don't get a hung date ]

I'm actually planning on a day trip - I'm one of those boring people who likes to sleep in her own bed! York is about 2 hours from London by train and I live pretty close to Kings Crosd so it seems doable to me,,,

smac at 7 hour train journey!

Arcadie · 12/05/2010 13:56

I merely suggested York in a very cheeky fashion. I had no idea that you were all going to take me up on it. very happy to still do London.

Also happy to note that we cannot please ALL the people ALL the time and that if I'm one of the people who CAN'T be pleased I will never speak to you again be ok with that.

hecklephone · 12/05/2010 20:48

Hello y'all.

Last weekend in July I can do, but the 24/25th I can't - tis my Dad's 60th birthday and they're coming over for a 'do'.

smac I'm Dundee, so on the East coast main line - it's usually about 4 hours to York. I did the journey in November and it was fine - although that was with a bump, not a small child!

And I echo RKD's sentiments - it seems the weekend I can't do DOES suit a lot of the rest of you, but I will also survive if I can't come along....THIS TIME. I will OF COURSE expeet first invite to the MMMM meet up part II.

I suppose though, if people are a bit about a very long journey (understandably, of course) or want to make it more of a day trip than a weekend event, it might be worth considering a northern/scottish meet up and a southern/london one. With anyone free to attend whichever they prefer - or both if they like!!
