Happy Mother's day Juners ;)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMcJnr · 02/07/2010 14:18

Hey girls, I am so sorry that I have been so lousy at coming on here recently. I have been so busy with the kids in RL and by the evening I am too tired to "talk". Aaliyah is a total joy at the moment, walking, climbing, dancing and saying more and more words, really cute but not sleeping much better but she is getting all 4 eye teeth at the moment and I think they are really hurting as she keeps biting DS and I. DS is being a menace really confrontational with us and with ither kids, it is really wearing me down, I know it's his age but I lose my temper and then feel like a terrible mother

whenskiesaregrey · 02/07/2010 14:49

Hello, posting from work again, so very quick! Hope to have internet by the 7th of July, according to Sky, so I will be able to come back and be more sociable again soon! Miss you allxxx

Gauchita- Argentina are my favs for the World Cup btw

Are we doing a meet-up? Could someone post me the details on Facebook? I can read that on my phone at the moment, and would like to meet you all!

Caelan is 1 tomorrow, I can't believe it. Sad, and happy at the same time!

Hope you are all well xxxx

MrsMcJnr · 02/07/2010 16:01

Bought A?s first shoes on Weds, she is very proud of them. They have peep toes and she is fascinated by the fact that she can see and touch her toes. DS is less enthusiastic about his sandals. He only wanted to try on high heels and had a hissy fit when I wouldn?t agree to a pair for him; he had to be pacified by a beach ball from the shop attendant, so embarrassing!

DH only works 1-2 in July and August so it is going to be great having another pair of hands in the afternoons he will probably just lie about watching footie but the kids are happy pottering around him and it means I?ll be able to get some stuff done and finally start preparing for the house swap which I am now starting to panic about ? my oven and microwave and windows are filthy!

Reading backwards?..

Whenskisargrey ? have a wonderful 1st birthday for C tomorrow!

Gauchita ? my Ds never had any tantrums until a couple of months ago but A has been throwing them for a few months now, they normally entail throwing her head backwards wherever she is which is bit worrying. I try distraction and if that doesn?t work once she is safe I ignore it. Glad to hear that M is settling into nursery well I met a Mila the other day and thought of you! Sorry to hear that you are down about the in law situation, I hope the book helps and that you can get DH to see your perspective of things.

Bigcar ? interesting to read how the nursery and school system works in England, I didn?t know that sounds like E is very determined like A is; if the stair gate is left open she?s out of her safe zone in a shot! Glad to hear your DH is back to work now.

Snow ? glad to hear that you are enjoying working I know that you did tell us but remind me again what you are doing. Good to hear that A is doing well at nursery, neither of mine have been interested in rattles or soft books either but then A had some many other more interesting toys to play with with having a big brother. She adores his electric taxi that he/she sits in, will put a photo on my profile! We are having issues with the kids eating out at night at the mo, even if it is early, they are diabolical, I know we have to persevere but it does take the enjoyment out of it! A?s sleeping was improving a bit before the latest teeth started cutting through, thanks or asking she is in her own room and most nights will sleep from bedtime (somewhere between 8-9.30 depending what we are doing) until sometime between midnight and 2am, sometimes 3am only waking up a few times for minutes at a time but when she wakes properly she won?t go back in the cot and wants to be in the double bed with me or with DH. When DH has stayed with her she will happily go through to 7am without milk or waking but if it is me she wants milk all through the night and neither of us really get any sleep but DH often doesn?t hear her so I end up going. It?s a slow process but we will get there! Glad you had a good trip to Oz and that the pregnancy is going well. Bleeds are so scary but I have had them in all my pregnancies ? do you think the heparin has something to do with it too?

June ? sounds like you are doing really well with getting fit again, good for you. I keep promising myself that I will do some sit ups and watch my diet so I weigh less and look better when we go back to Scotland on holiday in just under 5 weeks but the weeks are rolling on and I never get round to it ? excuses, excuses! When DS was little we would put him to bed as usual, get ready to go out, put him in his buggy and walk to the restaurant of our choice, have a lovely evening, he wouldn?t have woken once and when we got home we?d put him in his cot again none the wiser, we didn?t know how lucky we were! Generally as a rule we don?t take the kids out at night with a view to them sleeping, we only go out with others with kids and I don?t find it very relaxing I have to say. Lunch is much better. Can?t believe your MIL still gets your name wrong, that?s just rude! You are still a Spring chicken, plenty of time for more babies I would still do what I have done in retrospect (i.e. having 2 close together) it is hard but there are great benefits too. For me the question is around a 3rd (and maybe a 4th..) I?d like to wait a couple of years and then have 2 more close together but DH isn?t that keen. I don?t want to add another one to this mix and lose the plot but nor do I want to have only 1 in a few years time who then doesn?t have a sibling close in age to play with I am also 37 in 6m time!

Hey Doris nice to see you again on here, LOL at the rugby tackles; I guess she will need to be able to hold her own though! I know what you mean about them being more mobile, A is definitely having more fun but I still have to watch her all the time when she?s out of her safe zone!

llynnnn ? DD has her madam moments, she is very attached to me and when she is tired she does try to bit us. DS is phobic about bits after a nasty one when he was little so he gives quite a reaction which she finds fascinating! Sorry to hear about I?s reaction to the heat, she?d hate it here just now. The upside is that mine will both sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon and if I time in right, they will go at the same time! Ok, they are both up at 7am and rarely go down at night before 8.30/9 but the couple of hours in the day to get things done are a godsend!

Strawberrysam ? sorry to hear about your back hon as the others have said, there is never a good time to have a baby in many respects, at least if your Dh is at Uni and you are at your folks you?ll have lots o hands on deck which should help enormously with any PND you may encounter. Hard decision x

Ineedmore ? thanks for the kind words, I know that another friend had similar issues with her son at this age and he is 3 next month and is much better, that said, I don?t want to wish his toddlerdom away but sometimes it?s hard to see the funny/quirky side of his behaviour!

Thanks for all your kind words on the toddler issues ? he?s chucking a fit at the moment and likely to wake DD up so I had better go and sort him out. We are going to a Feria locally tonight and DD is wearing a little Flamenco dress I bought her ? so cute, can?t wait

Promise to write more often now that I am back!

bigcar · 02/07/2010 17:10

strawberry, massive happy birthday hugs for L yesterday and some more for whenskies C for tomorrow

bigcar · 02/07/2010 17:18

MrsMcJnr, are you moving again? Sounds hectic! Love ds and his high heels E loves a bit of a dance these days, he looks so cute.

gauchita, E does that with my keyboard, he finds it highly amusing

whenskies, look forward to seeing you back soon

Gauchita · 02/07/2010 19:32

Strawberry, a huge happy birthday to L for yesterday. Hope she had a lovely day (with lots of sunshine too)

Mrsmc, nice to hear from you Sorry to hear DS is being difficult these days. M does the head towards the back as well. She knocked my glasses yesterday and hit me in the way as well, I was not a happy bunny. Glad to hear DH will be at home loads these days, get some lie-ins! Aww please show us a pic of A in her flamenco dress.

Bigcar, glad to hear E's blood test was not too bad. When do you get the results? Thanks for the info, it's much clearer now I guess the confusing thing is to see you have different schools with overlapping ages, IFKWIM. Some are from 3 to 7, others from 4 to 11 or 3 to 9, WTF!? I'll go to my council's website and find out more.

Skies, yay! Internet at home soon! Posting on mobiles sucks most of the time. Awww thanks for rooting for Argentina I'm scared to death about tomorrow, Germany is a tough one! We'll see. Happy birthday to C for tomorrow if you don't manage to log on. Hope you all have a great day (with lots of sunshine as well).

Another sunny day up here. It's definitely been the best summer since we got here I read the other day it's been the driest in 80 years as well, that can't be too good for crops I imagine so hope we get a bit (only a tiny bit ) of rain in those areas.

M went to school for an hour today. She cried when DH left her but I guess that will happen for some more time until she's fully adapted. DH came to the car heart-broken, bless him. He was a bit teary-eyed, it was the first time he left her and he said it was so hard to see her cry when he was leaving.

Hope you have a nice weekend, ladies.

Waves!

arrrggh! just written a really long reply and lost it!!! stupid computer!!

thanks for all your tips on tantrums! I must try to keep a stern face when saying no, but its so hard she looks at me and cries and it breaks my heart so I pick her back up again!! I'm my own worst enemy!!

whenskies - Happy Birthday to C for tomorrow Hope you all have a lovely day. Your FB status today brought a lump to my throat it was so lovely!

Strawberry - pleased to hear L had such a lovely birthday and is enjoying all her new toys!

Gauchita - it is so hard to leave them when they cry! I always does when I leave her (doesnt for dh!!) its only ever for about 30secounds though (I listen outside the door ) She also always cries when I go back to pick her up, very odd! They say she is absolutely fine when I'm not around! Just puts it on for me I think!

mrsmc - love your ds with his heeled shoes!! so funny! after dd1's bath last night, still fully nude she out on her heeled dressing up shoes, tiara, beaded necklace, handbag and magic wand and was strutting around the house!! pleased we were in the house alone at the time!!
Very jealous of your 2 hour naptime in the afternoon!

Doris - Hi! Good to hear from you

Hi to June, Bigcar and everyone I've missed

MrsMcJnr · 02/07/2010 23:52

Just a quickie - we are not moving Bigcar just house swapping with friends for a couple fo weeks in August. They get our apartment and car here and we get their cottage and car in Scotland

June2009 · 03/07/2010 10:13

bigcar thanks for shcool system recap, very helpful!
C also thinks "no" is a game...glad she's not the only one.
she also has tantrums and I think they're probably nothing compare dto the ones they do when they're two so gauchita I'm not looking forward to that either.
I can't beleive I am missing the match this afternoon, we're off to a friend's bbq party.
Hopefully some of the men would have hinted they wanted to see it ;)
sam I think C sits up in her sleep and it wakes her up. She doesnt do it every night so not as bad as L.
mrsmc How does the house swapping work, do you have to pay anything at all or just entirely swap? Have a good time in scotland!
We're going to try and have early dinner at my friends next week, take C with us and keep her awake and just go when she starts getting tired.
I'm really not sure how this is going to work as they have a dog (one of these tiny ones) and she was got scared last time we had to leave. friend is insisting and i don't want to offend her so we can only try. .
a friend of mine who had a baby in june like us also told me this week she is 11 weeks pregnant. I thought this would make me broody but I am focussed on getting fit first for now.
We're going to France for a few days in a couple of weeks, I think I should start packing now!
I have to go for now, have a nice weekend juners!

Hey ladies feeling exhausted tonight and under the weather. Came to moan to you guys because DH has no sympathy as he says I have enough for myself (twat ) Have had a sore throat for days and a headache and my whole body aches plus a stuffed up nose? it?s just a cold but still can?t take anything stronger than paracetamol to BFing and I feel crap I could have done without a day t a soft play centre but DH is right, he can?t go there alone with the two kids so I had to go. DS is thankfully in bed but DD refused to go down and DH is not impressed as she is trying to get his attention whilst he watches the game!

Skies ? happy birthday to C did they show his card on Cbeebies? Didn?t whilst I was watching!

Gauchita ? ah hon, sorry about the football or you guys today hope we (Spain) stay in as it is creating a great buzz around the place! A is going through a stage of removing my glasses too, very annoying. Sadly I can?t get a lie-in as DH is only off in the afternoons. I begged for one this morning as I was up with A a lot even though we all went to bed so late, I got an hour before hey came to wake me up Your poor DH, it must have been hard for him to see M crying

Strawberrysam ? L?s birthday and pressie sounded fab A is making good use of the ball park we got DS for his 1st birthday. He still loves it too. My folks got her a baby buggy and we got her a shopping trolley full of groceries, both are a huge hit! I?m not sure A sleep walks but the minute she opens her eyes in her cot she will stand up and cry and that is always how I find her and it is often every hour or so. Frustrating!

llynnn ? LOL at your DD1, a Diva in the making when I asked Ds what he wanted for dinner tonight he told me ?salt? he knows he is not allowed it! Normally he says ?smarties? or ?buttons? so at least it was a variant!

June ? hope you enjoyed the BBQ. The house swap is just an informal thing with friends so no money is changing hands. We emailed all our friends with suitable digs at the beginning of the year and waited to see who came back to us. The friends in question have a lovely cottage and 2 little boys so lots of things to keep DS amused! I think that is half the battle with being away from home! I?m certainly not ready to be pregnant again either, I think my body is beginning to wake up again too; I wouldn?t be surprised if I have my first period since April 2007 in the next few weeks. Boy do I feel hormonal!

llynnnn · 03/07/2010 21:17

awww mrsmc - sorry you are feeling so under the weather would love to say get some rest and look after yourself b ut know that is much easier said than done so sending lots of and sympathy (you can never have too much )
your ds is definitely rebelling at the moment isnt he!! wonder how he wouldve reacted to a plate full of salt though, wouldve thought more tomorrow (bless him, I'm not that mean really )

june - hope your friends will move their dog to a different room this time, poor C! thats not what babies need when they are already tired and in unfamiliar surroundings

Gauchita - sorry your team are out of the world cup, hope dh isnt too down about it. At least he has all the english supporters sympathies too with going out to the germans aswell!

really pleased I started chatting to you ladies again recently, didnt realise how much I missed you guys! (that was very un-mumsnet of me, sorry, but do mean it!)

Gauchita · 03/07/2010 21:45

Hi all,

Mrsmc, sorry to hear you're a bit under the weather these days. Colds suck big time, esp when you have to run around little ones. Hope you feel better soon

Gauchita · 03/07/2010 21:47

x post with Llynn, oh yes, sad sad afternoon. DH was watching it in our friends' living room It was torture, losing by that much is horrible! You must have felt exactly the same last weekend. I now wish they lose horribly at the next match

MrsMcJnr · 04/07/2010 10:30

ole! ole! lots of good football vibes here though it won't last!

Thanks for the sympathy - DH grrrrrrrrrrrrr he is in a foul mood again today, it is all my f fault that Ikea plug socket guards are hard to remove WTF?! last night I caught him tutting at the slight splashing in the microwave, I went ballistic!

Funnily enough he did not hear A to do the night shift lst night (after 4 beers nd a bottle of wine) but he heard enough to tuen the monitor off when I was in the loo and hadn't gone into her yet

5 years today he proposed - would I have said yes with hindsight? yes of course but I'd have hoped he would have stayed the happpy, fun person he was, just don't recognise this grumpy git!

Gauchita - hope M sleopt well after the party. They love gatherings of kids don't they

Llynnn - I always feel so much better when I speak to you all too, it's a great place to vent and boost your self esteem

June2009 · 04/07/2010 20:26

mrsmc I don't know how you deal with the lack of sleep. from here for you.
Do you have any friends there you can see this week? I always feel better once I've spoken to a couple of friends (with babies, the ones who are going through the same thing as us).
It does really suck what you're going through with your dh. I know some guys like to be backwards stereotypical blokes and leave childcare to the woman but I really think he should be supporting you more.
I love the buzz the world cup brings! (sorry gauchita, it's lame when your team goes out, France didn't last long and their behaviour was an embarassment on top of it all). am i the only one who likes Germany despite beating our favorite teams? they play really well!

lynn the number of times I've come here to offload about my ils...saves me blowing in their face and making the problem even worse.

vene where are you? Hope you're ok!

whenskies hope the party went well :D

I've been to the gym a few times and keeping a food diary, seeing the gym nutritionist on thursday...(never done that before!) Hopefully I'll keep this up long enough to see some results then it'll be easier to motivate myself.

I'd better go for now, speak to you soon!

OP posts:
bigcar · 06/07/2010 17:16

afternoon all

gauchita, nurseries attached to a school will take children from 3, but if they are an oversubscribed school won't take them until 4 to allow each child to go to the nursery before school. The difference between 7 and 11 is whether the school is just an infant school that goes up to the end of key stage 1 (7) and a primary school that does infants and juniors (key stage 2 as well) that finishes at 11. You also get seperate junior schools that do 7 to 11. Hope that's a little clearer. Not sure where 9 comes in unless they operate a first and second school system which is basically exactly the same but you change schools at different ages, only some areas do this.

strawberry, E sits up in his sleep sometimes. Good to hear the party went well

llynnn, that's definitely a kodak moment

june, when are you going? Did your friends not put the dog out or in another room Hope the BBQ went well. Sorry to hear about mil and her antics with the likes of Derek Acorah, that's shocking, how can someone forget so quickly what a person was like and be so easily manipulated

MrsMcJnr, things don't sound good for you at the moment with dh, how are things? House swap sounds good, maybe the break will do all of you some good.

anyone else hoping Germany win the football? At least then we can say the team that beat us went on to win! Sorry MrsMcJnr! On the up side dh got a cheap england shirt from sports direct last week

Still having a complete headache with dd3s school, can't wait till the end of term, just over 2 weeks left [yay] We have another meeting in school next week, oh the fun

waves to all

venetianred · 06/07/2010 22:45

Sorry june - I skipped off to Spain for our annual holiday without saying bye bye before I went. I thought of you mrsmcjnr - but we flew in and out of Gibraltar so didn't need to do the trek from Malaga. The weather was incredible - too hot for me actually, even the night we went to the beach for a picnic and to watch the sun go down it was 29oC at 10!!! Even though F had been hating and screaming hysterically in the bath for a month or more, once he got in the swimming pool he just loved it, and would stay for ages and ages. We played motor boat with him and make all the right motor boat noises as we whizzed him around the pool. We slipped into Mediterranean time - F woke at 8.30/9 took a long nap at lunchtime and then we went to lunch at a local tapas place and then had the rest of the day free. It worked out better than I had hoped for and for the first time I got lots of sleep - 8-9 hours every night for 7 nights (just one night was challenging).

Just quickly skimmed through the posts. june - I love that you are pestering me about the business. I need to be pestered as it really is my lifelong dream to run my own business and I have so much good experience in so many fields, along with two degrees etc etc.....I really just need to take the plunge.

gauchita - sorry to hear you are having problems....I think I missed some of the key bits though....

snowwombat - you really are a superwoman....whizzing off to OZ in your first trimester....glad you had a lovely time.

june - when we were invited to a wedding when DD was just over one, we realised we should have made more effort to develop our babysitting list. There is a great website for finding babysitters, and they mostly have superb experience....you can say 'no' if you want someone absolutely fully trained....just an idea.... www.sitters.co.uk/

sam - sorry to hear about your predicament - it must be so hard - any improvements with the PND - is your instinctive response to the thought of having another baby: excitement or fear?

Better go - still unpacking etc.

Oh just to mention, went to DD's school this morning, and it troubled me a bit - the other children and parents didn't seem as 'fun/silly/eccentric/opinionated/whatever' as at our nursery school. We have decided to go through the state system although in our area quite a lot go to the fee paying church and prep schools. I loved the fact that there was a real mixture of kids at her nursery school (although fairly affluent overall) and it is a bit sad that they are all divided now. Also, I decided not to send her to the state funded church school, because I didn't take a liking to the head there - but quite a few of her friends are now going there, and there are only two of them going to the school we put first and got into. I felt confident I had done the right thing until today when I really began to wonder.

Gauchita · 06/07/2010 23:07

Hi all!

Vene, glad to hear you had a great time on your trip. How lovely F enjoyed the pool and slept well It must be so hard to choose schools, right? I'm only now starting to learn a bit more about the UK system and it's not easy, especially when you have DD's best friends all going in different directions. Do you know if the cafe place is still available in your town?

Bigcar, thanks for expanding my knowledge I must say I'm still about the whole thing, I need to see it graphically, I think Sorry to hear DD3's school is still giving you a headache Hope next week's meeting comes with some solutions.

June, I've been quite into the world cup mood, I guess I've had little choice, though, with DH being such a fan Are there still repercussions from the world cup's performance of the team back home? It was quite . Glad to hear things are going well at the gym, I think you're pretty motivated now, and that's all it takes sometimes to get into a good pace How's C doing at nursery?

Mrsmc, how are you? hope these days have been better.

We went to a treasure and adventure activity today with M. It's lots of fun for the babies as they go into big trays full of messy stuff Today there were baked beans in one, pasta in another one and cornflour with water in another one. M had a great time. They also give you a tub with soapy water so as to give them a bath afterwards They certainly need that as they look a mess when it all ends!

I won the numpty award the other day booking my practical test at a random page instead of the DSA one and only after I clicked the "pay" button that said £82 did I realise the actual test is only £62 and these mean people were charging me £20 JUST because of booking it with them! WTF! I immediately read the T&C and emailed them asking for a cancellation (it was allowed, with full refund if you did it asap) and they've emailed me back saying they're refunding me the fee. Phew! But what an idiot of the week moment!

Waves to all!

heya! just popping in to say hello quickly,
glad to hear from you Vene, how lovely a holiday in Spain :D
We're leaving end of next week to France and I need to start packing now.
had a bit of a confrontation with mil today as dh has asked her many times to call before she turns up but yet again she turned up, then called from outside the house. How hard is it???
Little miss C was finally starting to eat her veggies but as soon as mil came in that was it. we could have such a better time if it was pre arranged, or if she came at the same time every week or something, her turning up at random (sometimes as late at 10pm...and starting to march up the stairs like I'm going to let her wake the baby up???wtf??)
Now though she'll just tell everybody that we won't let her see her grand-daughter.

We went to my friends with the dog last night for dinner which was a little bit traumatic for C as they felt bad for putting the dog outside so only put him there for a couple of minutes at a time, he was still barking anyway so she was still freaking out.
We are making progress though I think and baby was starting to warm up to him a little bit, from afar.

We have a 1yo walking around the house :D woohoo!
C is proper walking around now, since today, she was always wobbly before but very confident now.

bigcar good point about germany..we'll see how it pans out tonight, in fact right now...better go check it out!

Where in France june. I think we will go back to France next year. I worked in France when I was 18 and speak French, also my cousin lives in Avignon, so I used to spend a lot of time there.

sam - DD used to get cold quickly and swims would last just 20mins before we got out, which did feel a little short at times. F is really not affected in the same way. Even if it feels a little ridiculous you could buy one of those wetsuits on ebay.....or one of these might add a little more warmth but wetsuit probably more reliable.

gauchita - love the sound of your messy fun!

Gauchita · 07/07/2010 22:49

Hi all!

Strawberry, I found these M is also a bit nesh (I was told that's the word to describe people who feel cold quite easily ) so I thought of getting her one of these.

June, ((hug)) we can only hope she gets the message. Well done for saying something and drawing a line. I can't believe she expects to trot up at 10pm and wake the baby Ohhh nice trip coming! Hope you have a great time! Glad the meal with your friends went OK(ish).

Vene, hi!

I'm registering with new agencies and going through the whole form-filling,CV-sending process now. It's looooooong and boring, but hopefully it'll bring in new clients

We went to a session called Babies into books with M today. It was really good, they talk about everything from language development, motion development, books and how to encourage babies to "play" with them, etc, it was quite interesting

DH has started reading the book, let's see how it all goes

Waves to all!

Gauchita · 07/07/2010 22:50

Ugh, Strawberry, sorry! I copied the wrong link! That's the one for UV protection, not wetsuits! I'll do it properly in a minute.

Gauchita · 07/07/2010 22:57

Here That one is a bit on the pricey side but I'm sure there are cheaper around
