x-post with headless and pula

headless indeed

Thanks for all the BLW comments. Sounds like we're on track. No plates yet and the odd spoon seems to be the thing with nearly 10mo's

spangle Can you imagine your H is getting so close to his 1st b'day. Shall we have a special 1st b'day party when the time comes? I think you H deserves some special treatment, due to him being "our" 1st baby

essenceofSES · 07/03/2010 20:48

x-posted with belgina !
I agree about a special 1st birthday party for our first baby - H
(any excuse for a virtual party!)

runningmonkey · 07/03/2010 20:50

said I was going to be sociable and DH got his laptop out

toothbrushing we have also discovered the joys of the toothbrush as a distraction tool. A insists on brushing my teeth though so I usually end up with toothpaste and dribble smeared all over my face!

evening all lovely new thread!

I'll be back on in a min on my phone as i'm determined to switch off the laptop tonight (have been doing some work again... will explain in a mo). At least if i'm on my phone i only MN/FB & don't get carried away trying to do lots more... and i really need an earlier night tonight.

My mammoth catch up did take ages but i'd not done a decent one since before being ill & thought it high time i did! I had so many pages to read that i decided the 2 window approach was needed so that's how i kept track of who said what

right back in a min from my mobile in bed...

hopalongsausage · 07/03/2010 21:23

Hola.

Toothbrushing - we brush M's teeth in the bath every night. Yes, I am anal about bathing her every night, but, like moi, she has the old dry sking and eczema thang going on so we have to slap on a load of gunk pre, during and after baths!

Headless - not talking to you. LOVE Meribel. Also, the stokke tray - does it work, then? My ILs have offered to buy it for us, and have ummed and ahhed about it...

Am neglecting DH, so need to go back downstairs as it's taken me AGES to read the last thread... just quickly want to say:

Ukuleles - FAB night out! Lipstick smudged, but hey ho.

Belgina - good luck for your first proper shift tomorrow. Will be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes!

Younger - best of luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you too. Are you just in for the day?

Spangle - ooooh I loved that dress! Want! Fortunately (or not) I have to wear a lovely uniform for work, so no worries there. (for the measly 14 days I go back for, hahahahhahaaaa!)

I think M is getting fed up with being fed and wants the BLW route! Gah! I've recently been putting things down in front of her (veggies, rice cakes, etc etc) and she's more into that than being fed stuff. We had a mahoosive roast lamb today (Younger look away!) and we gave M loads for tea, mostly mashed up, except I put a few roast potatoes on her tray. She cried each time I tried to put a spoon in her mouth and quite astonishingly ate 4 - yes 4 roast potatoes! Feel a bit as they were cooked in goose fat.... aaargh!! What have I DONE??!!

Have decided I want to learn how to bake cakes. Properly. Made a victoria sponge the other day and it was LOVELY, and am thinking fondly of the jaffacakecake! Who wants to open a baby friendly cake shop with me, with clean highchairs (no dettol needed) big changing rooms with loos in, no stairs, comfy chairs and LOTS of chocolate n stuff? This is my dreeeeeeeeammmmmmmm

Sigh. I haven't even been drinking.....

Night all x

hopalongsausage · 07/03/2010 21:26

skin not sking. Duh.

flippinegg · 07/03/2010 21:27

Thank you for the new thread, it's what I was thinking too. It's funny how much my 'imaginary' friends have been on my mind today. In between the vomit, that is - both girls are ill now! A seems to be on the mend, she's going longer between needing doses of calpol/ibuprofen now, and has even eaten a bit this evening. DD1 is in bed, but very disturbed and crying in her sleep , she's been sick all afternoon. I'll have to cancel my gym visit tomorrow as DD1 won't be going to the CM. But I will rearrange it and work something out, I am feeling motivated now.

BLW - A still has stuff off the table. IIRC, DD1 was about 1 when we started using a plastic plate, and she was about 14 months when she was reliably using a spoon and fork. A can feed herself with a spoon if it's already loaded.

A waking, back later.

llareggub · 07/03/2010 21:38

Bugger.

I have the willpower of a toddler sitting next to a pile of chocolate. I've had some lovely messages on facebook and I'd like to thank you. This new thread has been lovely and nice and while I have been writing my proposal for my new clients I have been eavesdropping.

Anyway. I have written and deleted quite a few posts so I shall forget it and move on.

It has been a crap day and I have a headache. On and off all day I have been thinking of you all.

One thing I will say is that I have been thinking for a while that I spend too much time online and I do need to cut down. I am currently addicted to twitter as well as facebook and mumsnet so I will be here less. It is and it isn't as a result of what has happened but I do need to cut down on all online communications.

To answer a few questions:

Teeth G has only just developed some so we aren't really brushing yet. We really must buy a toothbrush but I seem to remember the dentist telling me not to worry about it too much.

TTC ses we might give it ago later this year too.

birthday yes, let's celebrate in style.

BBQ my next door neighbours were BBQing today. Madness.

FiByTheIcySea · 07/03/2010 21:41

right i'm back and settled in bed!
flippin sorry you've got poorly ones. hope they're a lot better tomorrow x
sausage i'd bake for you.. just love it but have to admit i'd rather lounge around on your comfy chairs MNing/eating cake/drinking tea/scribbling in my sketchbook & pattern designing than actually run the cafe!

FiByTheIcySea · 07/03/2010 21:45

at llare

FiByTheIcySea · 07/03/2010 21:50

Ooo I'd meant to say re planning TTC.. no.. but not adverse to a delightful happy accident

FiByTheIcySea · 07/03/2010 21:53

suddenly v tired.. going to have to sleep now. sweet dreams all and I promise i'll fill you in about NS tomorrow. xoxox

flippinegg · 07/03/2010 22:09

Back again, A is sort of settled, but very hot again, despite the calpol. Thing we could be in for a long night.

TTC - we'd love to. Just need to get my head sorted first! Oh, and a bigger house.

toothbrushing - , oops. We don't brush A's. I suppose we ought to!

headless - at your holiday.

llareggub - I need to cut down a bit too.

sausage - can I help out in your cafe too? I can bake a bit.

I'm off to bed now, can I take my cocktail with me? Mojito please.

pulapancake · 07/03/2010 22:26

llare- lovely to see you .

flippin- hope your girls feel better soon.

ses and llare - exciting about possible TTC action later this year . No chance of TTC here - I feel so knackered and old and can't control the 3 i already have. DD is running wild, sooo noisy and won't listen. DS1 is deciding it's time he made more effort with the "terrible twos" and is trying his hardest to have tantrums, although to be fair, i think we have got off very lightly, as his tantrums fizzle out very quickly. And of course S and his terrible sleep doesn't make me crave newborns, although in the waking hours, he is the least "trouble" ATM.

Anyway, I should retire to bed as S has already woken and had a quick feed so i should try and get some zzzzzs before he wakes again. Got a 5 day working week this week , but then only 3 days the week after

Blottedcopybook · 07/03/2010 22:38

Belgian We actually still give Greer things she can eat with her fingers, she's not quite at the spoon stage yet! She does get her food on a plate, but that lasts a maximum of a minute or two before it gets thrown at the floor ;)

Looby I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't brushed Greer's tooth(!) yet but it only popped through a couple of weeks ago so there's still time to engrain good habits!

Ses AHAHAHAHA! No, for the first year since 2004 I shan't be pregnant ;)

Younger I've missed what you're going in for but lots of luck xx

Llare Add me on twitter? Same username xx

belgina · 07/03/2010 22:55

Hi blotted Long time since we've seen you here. Must be a nice feeling not to be preg for once, lol.

llare Oooh, glad you're back. I'm not on twitter, F/B seems to serve my purposes and don't feel the need to (+ there's the risk of addiction ). Not addicted to F/B TBH. I go on 1x a day or so usually to have a peek. I mainly use it to keep family up to date with the newest pics of the dcs. But I do know I have to stay away from Farms/puppies etc..., because they are addictive.

TTC I'm hanging on for C to walk first before even starting this. We're pretty sure a no4 will come around one day [completely bonkers emoticon]

saus Love the cafe idea. I've gotten into baking the last few months too. My next plan is to try and bake my very own Bakewell Tart, but got to find myself a good recipe first.

Right. Bedtime, need to get plenty of rest in for my big day tomorrow.

belgina · 07/03/2010 22:57

Oh and I forgot flippin Hope your girls get better soon (and that you can avoid the vomit goblin yourself)

Night everyone

Blottedcopybook · 07/03/2010 23:18

I know - I feel really guilty about not being here for so long. It's just really difficult for me to catch up on MN and I feel that I've missed loads and loads when I do come on. I try and keep track via fb but embarrassingly I still can't marry up who everyone is!

I do hope you're all well though xx

HeadlessLadyH · 08/03/2010 07:27

Morning all.

Am I the first up this morning? We've been awake here since 5am. Thank god I don't yet work Mondays.

saus Meribel/The 3V is probably my favourite place in the world. My fave bar is there (The ROnd Point) and this year we are staying in a family hotel right opposite it. I worked 2 seasons in the 3V so I have some very fond memories of it.

And as an ex chalet girl, you'd think I would know how to make cakes, but am a dead loss at them, so I'll join you in learning. What is your first one? Can you link to the recipe?

On the Stokke tray, it is expensive but we use it all the time. It has a rim round the edge so it does purport to keep the food on there. Its been a good purchase here for our BLW exploits.

blotted good to see you missus. Get here when you can.

belgina hope the shift goes well

pula 5 working days!! Oh my god. Hope S sleeps for you this week.

flip hope your night was ok. How is A this morning?

TTC (ahem) started here already! Bit risky with skiing in 2 weeks, but we are now on the 2 week wait (as of today) so that kind of just about ties in with skiing. Last time we went skiing we were mid TTC, and did a last minute booking so took a month off. Guess what, that was the month I fell pg so went skiing 5 weeks pg. mc'd 4 weeks later.

Right time to get into gear for the day now.

runningmonkey · 08/03/2010 09:10

Morning all,
Sorry I disappeared last night. A woke up screaming for some reason. Went back to sleep about half an hour later and then slept through - must have sensed me discussing plans to give her water with you

TTC we have discussed trying sooner rather than later but given we haven't actually done 'it' since A was born (either we're too tired or A seems to wake up at the wrong moment!) its probably not going to happen anytime soon. I would definitely like to though

flip hope you had an ok night and your lo's are feeling better

pula how was your night? Hope your working week goes well.

llare glad you're back

blotted hi - how are you doing?

headless 5am (that's meant to be a yawn) Hope you have a good day.

saus I'll join you in the cafe running - its my dream to have a little seaside cafe. Other girls dream of their ideal wedding - I planned a tearoom I know how I would decorate it, what would be on the menu and everything.

Fi am looking forward to hearing what you've been up to and the NS plans.

I am off to meet one of my best friends today, he was a bridesmaid at my wedding and hasn't met A yet. Think we're going to have a walk around the botanic gardens and lunch. I may even be persuaded into a glass of wine

Morning!!

Gorgeous sunny day here again. We have the estate agent coming round to take photos in a few hours. Too bad our grass is ruined at the moment. Between the cold, snow and the chickens it has had a hard few months. I've been trying to clean this morning but DD is following me round dropping crumbs and leaving sticky finger marks everywhere. She has a huge appetite at the moment which is good as she is a skinny wee thing so I need to keep giving her snacks. She has had porridge, half a bagel with cheese and a plum already today.

R is also eating lots. BLW has really taken off in the last month although I do spoon in some things like yogurt and porridge. I do serve his food on a plate but generally end up throwing the food on his tray and letting him go for it.

R woke a few times last night but I didn't go in to him (apart from sending DH to check he wasn't stuck up the top of the cot). He had a feed at 6.20am and is fine so I'm sticking with the no feed 'rule' and hope he stops waking.

Llaregg Glad you couldn't stay away but good on you for cutting down. I probably could be alot more productive if I cut down my online time but when at home with toddlers and babies it is a lifeline to sanity.

Younger Thinking of you today x

Flip Hope your girls are getting better now. You sound really positive at the moment. Good luck making it to the gym at some stage (something I should also try to do).

Better go and try to put some toys away.

Oh I nearly forgot R learnt to clap today . That kid is so darn cute.....

hopalongsausage · 08/03/2010 11:23

Morning! Nice sunny day for the start of the week! Was meant to be going out today but my gammy hip is throbbing so am confined to the sofa. Harumf.

TTC - we hope to start going down that route towards the end of the year too. However, like Running we actually haven't done 'it' since M was born too . Same reasons - usually too knackered, M is awake, etc etc. We have talked about it though and know its 'there' to be done. DH said we will get the ball rolling (or balls, HAHA) by his birthday. Which is this Sunday. EEK!

Running - your day sounds lovely. Am sure you can be nudged into the vino-land of things

Headless - can't remember bar names in Meribel, but just looooove it. Love the big bar area at the bottom of the final black run / where the chairlifts are... also that easy peasy green / blue towards the right which is nice and wide and lots of trees... faffing down there gave me such a 'wowtheworldisfab' kind of feeling, I seem to remember... sigh... hope the ski-ing doesn't bring back too many sad memories of last time and your MC - ((non MNy hug))

Cakecafe - ooooh glad to see there's lots of interest! Belgian my Mum makes a mean bakewell tart, I'll get the recipe for you. Good idea, Fi, we could have wi-fi in there too, and if I was hyper rich, then little laptops around the place for nice mummies to tap away too whilst feeding their rosy cheeked munchkins.... (Maybe the cafe can be turned into a mojito bar in the evenings?!)

...I really do live in a rose tinted world, don't I?

Llare - good to see you back. Know what you mean about online obsessions though - that was one of the reasons why I left MN for a while. I only really FB from my blackberry, and never went down the route of farms and all that, as like Belgina know how addictive they are! Don't even know what twitter looks like....

Just been going through some papers and found a cheque! For £25 - it was a premium bond! Latest it needs to be paid in is today - phew, that's a stroke of luck! Better nip to the bank quick sharp-ish!

flippinegg · 08/03/2010 11:47

Morning!

As expected, the night wasn't great - luckily DD1 slept through, but A was very unsettled and in bed with us all night fidgeting like a fidgety thing. I wasn't convinced that the girls have a vomitting bug (not enough D&V!) so I managed to get them to the drs this morning. A has an ear infection and DD1 has tonsilitis, so both have antibiotics. The doctor also offered painkillers on prescription too, so I have vast quantities of paracetamol and ibuprofen for them, probably won't need to buy any for months! Never been offered it on prescription before, am I cheating or defrauding the NHS?!

Was slightly embarrased at the drs - A was still in her pyjamas! I didn't have time to get her dressed properly.

DH and I used to joke about running a cafe for cyclists, he'd do bike sales/repairs and I'd make cakes!

sausage - good job you found that cheque!

younger - thinking of you. Hope all goes ok.

blotted - lovely to see you. Stop in when you can, bring cake, will you?!

Headless - hugs for your mc. The last time we skied was Jan 2005, I got pregnant later that year so didn't plan anything for early 2006...then I miscarried in December 2005. I sometimes think we should have doen something last minute then, it would have been a good break from everything, but we didn't, we had a new sofa instead. WTF was that all about?!
