llare- I would have been at the no food thing too. I was a bit when we went to the local fire museum and expected to have lunch there, as they advertised a cafe with "light snacks" which i took to mean sandwiches, toasties etc. It actually meant crips .

Should I be worried that S doesn't really babble- he says dadada and makes vowel sounds and does pretend singing but no "mama" or other strings of sounds.

belgina · 04/05/2010 22:41

llare The Flemish and Dutch don't like eachother. They're tight with their money and have big teeth to eat their cheese with. The Flemish are apparently a stupid, but jolly and friendly kind of people . I think it all goes back to the time just before Belgium became independent and we were 're'united with Holland to reduce the power of the French and the Germans in the area or something like it. My history lessons are a long long time ago.
No chance of relations here too TBH. C's in our bedroom AND we've got a babymonitor sending all bedroom activity to the living room. It really puts you off if the ap is still downstairs, lol. I don't want to switch off the monitor upstairs because it makes the downstairs one beep.
I'd 've been unhappy about the no food either. Especially with los with you.

pula I'm not sure about the babbling. I think as long as he does that and does the singing, he should be OK. TBH together with the useless letter last week, my HV also sent a letter with a language development check list. I sort of thought it was a bit advanced, because C doesn't do any of them. Apparently she needs to:

  • use 1 or 2 simple words
  • follow simple instructions
  • say mama and dada
It had a few more things on it, but I can't remember and I binned thinking it didn't seem all that realistic, because none of the other 2 did those things at 1 y if I remember rightly

Today C and DS had the most wonderful interaction going. C was giving ds some toys and everytime ds took it he said 'thank you' excitedly and C just burst out laughing. It was so funny and cute

Just had my off duty for June back today and I'm going to have to do 4 nights next June. I'm a bit worried due to C not sleeping very well yet (though better than before). I hope she'll be even better by then. [hopeful emoticon]

Its funny you say that about the development checklist, Belgina.

I was chatting to DH earlier about DS1. We both remember him crawling to the cupboard to get nappies when asked. He must have been around 12/13 months because he used to crawl there, rather than toddle. DS2 is no where near that.

He does get tremendously excited when he sees people, and he is far more giggly and cheerful than his big brother. So I've decided that the development thing is a series of peaks and troughs, rather than a curve. So a baby can be developed in one area, but not another. I mean, at 9 months my HV was worried about DS not weight-bearing and now he is, with no problems.

llareggub · 04/05/2010 23:00

Thanks for the info about the Belgians and the Flemish. Always interesting to hear about things like that.

llareggub · 04/05/2010 23:01

Dutch, Dutch, sorry! I'm doing too many things at once!

Blottedcopybook · 05/05/2010 11:41

Pula Greer's not really doing much language-wise either but I really noticed between my four that they have strengths in certain areas and other areas need to catch up - for example, Greer eats really well and feeds herself (and has done for months) and she sleeps reliably every night from 8pm-8am(ish) which I know a lot of other babies her age aren't doing so I'm not worried about her speech being a little behind. Nairn didn't babble at all and didn't really speak until he was nearly 2 at which point he pretty much came away with whole sentences! Don't fret about it

HeadlessLadyH · 06/05/2010 10:09

Morning ladies,

Quiet on here in last couple of days. Everyone busy in RL???

saus I saw your FB post and hope work goes well for you today.

pula I really wouldn't worry about the babbling at all. R only babbles mamamam daddadaad and then a few nasally like sounds, and as for belgina's HV list, WTF??? Simple words. Oh come on, HV!!

So, I appear to be beginning to show a bit now at 10 weeks 6 days! I'm still in my size 12 skinny jeans and am going to hang on in there with them as long as I can. My maternity clothes are all packed away upstairs and I am not going to get them out until after the scan next Thursday. I swear I can feel movements too. belgina do you think thats possible at a day short of 11 weeks??

I'm off for a girls night out tonight at a restaurant that has just opened and looks lovely. Its right by the river. pula I am going to squeeze into my orange M&S dress for what could be the last time for a while! The girls I am out with don't know I am pregnant yet. For some reason I have felt a bit funny about telling them (probably because its twins) and I don't want to say anything in case we lose one or there is something wrong. Part of it is that in this group is my friend who had twins 2 months after R was born and I'm not quite ready for her reaction yet. I think a couple of them have suspisions - I met one for coffee on Monday and she was asking very pointedly , was I ok, because I had seemed more subdued than usual....if only she knew!!!!

On the up side my mum has had herself signed off work! Its really and upside as she is desperate to retire which she is due to do anyway in 9 weeks (shes a teacher) but had had a couple of stressful incidents at school and it just finished her off. So, the upside is she is looking forward to now spending more time with me and the DSs, which works for me!!!!

Blimey, this has turned into a me me me post. Guess I needed to talk a bit! Sorry for not NCing but will try and do a property catch up and be less selfish in my next post. Hope everyone is ok and doesn't forget to vote today

HeadlessLadyH · 06/05/2010 10:11

Just noticed we are close to needing a new thread!

Any bright ideas for a title anyone?

Or keep it simple maybe? One year on.

Does anyone really care??????

llareggub · 06/05/2010 11:03

Headless, obv I know nothing but I was convinced that I felt movement very early on with DS2. So maybe because it isn't your first pregnancy, AND twins, perhaps it could well be movement. Or wind....

pulapula · 06/05/2010 13:02

headless - sticky vibes your way for next Thursday's scan. I still haven't worn my M&S orange dress yet as I opted for a size 10 rather than a 12 [ambitious emoticon] and although it seemed to just about fit when it arrived, it is now a teensy weensy bit too tight . In fact, most of my clothes are too tight. After getting down from 13+ stone at the end of my pg to 10 st 6 before Christmas, I have been stuffing my face and am back up to 11 st 6 .

Thanks for the reassurances re. babbling. I know they are all different, and DS1 didn't babble (or talk) for a long time, but is making up for it now (DD and DS1 have to fight for "air-time" - once one has said their piece they have to get in quick with a "my turn") . I just worry about DS2 as he has a mild tongue-tie which you can see when he tries to stretch his tongue so just wondering whether it's hampering him.

momino · 06/05/2010 14:06

hi all. haven't caught up properly yet. just here to say hello.
Am so busy trying to get work done whilst looking after the girls. and I've got a bit of a cold so slightly run down.

Headless, glad you're doing well at 11 weeks and am not surprised you're feeling niggles, moves, whatever with twins!

pula, re: language, H isn't doing much but the same mamamama, daadadad, a nasal 'uh oh' when she drops things, and lots of singing (well, yelling really). she has mild tongue tie as well, not sure if it's affecting her.

seems she's stopped trying to walk as she's been getting around rather quickly on her bum and crawling like a crab .

could I just say a tired hello to everyone else? I've got some calls to do for work now as it's fairly quiet. I'm eating a Magnum and thinking of you all - remember the days when we tipped each other off where the 2 for 1 deals on Magnum/mini Magnums were? (or is it just me?)

Hope everyone is well.
