Thanks pepper. I'll give dh the virtual slap
Sounds like a great meal out! sleep from 4-5 - I hope she's thinking about sleeping soon

Q woke loads last night (as usual) but I got him to sleep again from 5am-7.20am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . I felt great waking up at nearly 8am! Wow!
He napped on the way back from our outing this morning at 12 then came home, had lunch and wouldn't settle for his proper nap. I thought, ok maybe he's dropping his nap... so we got in the car to go into town... fell straight to sleep. so he got very little sleep today and was whiny and grumpy and crying loads. It was horrendous. He's in bed now - went down at 6.55pm because he could barely stay awake. So much for dropping the nap.

Blimey, everyone's ill! Hope the various ailments are clearing up now. How is Q now?

Dp took S for most of the day yesterday which allowed me to rest do some schoolwork. Am in bed now with a cup of coffee, which is lovely but I've still got loads of work to do. Gah!

Sorry you're feeling fed up 50ft. What is it you need? A change of scene? Night out? Or just a bit of excitement? Hope it passes quickly.

Myjob - I will bow out of the whole dietary discussion as I know a lot about cooking, but nothing about weight loss. I would listen to everything 50ft says. She's the expert.

Star - I've replied to your fb thread. Agree with everyone else really. You've had a horrible week haven't you. You and your dh must be exhausted with Q not sleeping. Certainly, dp and I are at our worst with each other when we're tired, but we try at least to acknowlege it and make it clear to each other that it's nothing serious. I think that bit is really important. That seems to be the bit your dh isn't very good at.

Someone round here was having a really loud party last night. We could hear the bass booming out all night. It's still going. I wish I still had the energy to party like that, but those days are long gone.

That just about sums it up Pistachio!

It's a particularly busy time of the year school-wise. Although there's always loads to do, at the moment it's compounded by the fact that it's report-writing time and that literally takes weeks, as it has to be slotted in around everything else. Also, I had to collect S early from the cm the other day as she had a hospital appointment and just losing that couple of hours planning time seems to have had a knock on effect. Still, not long till the holidays!

StarExpat · 07/03/2010 12:09

pistachio it never ends or lets up. It gets worse when it's time to write reports or when there are conferences or an assembly coming up, but there's always loads to do. Thank goodness for holidays. Pre-Q I spent a lot of my holidays doing schoolwork and planning. Now I only spend a few hours on a holiday but make it really full on. It's hard to keep up with it all. I do most work after Q goes to bed or when he naps. I take one nap with him on the weekend (about to do that now - I'm ill today and sooo exhausted!) BUT on the other hand, it's lovely to have so many holidays and to be able to leave work at 3.30 (despite the piles of work that will need to be done after bedtime). But for spending time with Q, it's worth it for now.
Thanks aubergenie for your fb message. I know you're all right. I'll do my best.
going to nap now!

Nettiespagetti · 07/03/2010 15:13

Lol at aubergine and pistachio I'll join you there but I'm only expert at eating it!!

Change of nickname from mrsnetz sure spelt spagetti wrong

Hope everyone is feeling bit better and having good weekend x

pepperrabbit · 07/03/2010 18:37

We finally took all 3 of ours swimming today. Bearing in mind none can swim, only one can touch the bottom of the baby pool and I can't see as have no contacts.... it was quite an expedition! The DSs loved it, DD wasn't so sure but she looked so cute wedged into wearing her swim suit with her chubby little thighs..
And I can confirm that with 3 to keep alive help, you have no time to worry about what you look like in your cossie!

we have 4 little points, cut through bottom left molar!!!!!! wooo hooooo!!! We just need the other three to cut now - they are still swollen and hard. He has REALLY let us know this weekend.... pretty much constant crying and screaming or whining... He went to bed at 6.30pm... I never understood why people wanted bedtime to come so badly. I have never wanted 7pm to arrive so badly in my LIFE. wow, what a day!

50ftQueenie · 07/03/2010 19:54

Hello all. Grump has passed. I think I did just need a change of scene.

Star - Poor Q! He's really been in the wars lately hasn't he? Teething on top of everything else. Poor little lamb. Hope he's well and truly on the mend now. Oh and I am good at giving out advice, not so good at taking it. Myjob has seen what I eat.

Aubergenie, Star and Rachie - So, when you were encouraging me to train as a teacher you just wanted me to suffer too eh? Hmmmm? There aren't many jobs these days that you can just leave at the door when you go home are there? DH works every single night, weekends included, sometimes until 1am!

Pistachio - Yes, lovely weather here too. We've been out in the garden lots as M only seems to be able to tolerate the cold for about five minutes before becoming too whingy.

Wow, you are brave Pepper. Especially if you couldn't see! We must get back into the swimming habit. I went quite a bit when I was on mat leave and it's all slipped since I went back to work.

Star - Bloody hell, that sounds awful. I hope you all get some peace tonight.

S did a really odd thing today. Dp was reading him We're Going on a Bear Hunt, and when they got to the very last page where there's a picture of the bear walking away on his own looking a bit dejected, he pointed to the bear, his eyes filled with tears and he started to cry. Do they get empathy at this age, do you think? I was surprised, but maybe I underestimate him.

Clearly I should have listened to this. It's a programme that was on radio 4 about the infant brain. I heard the beginning and it sounded quite interesting, so I just thought I'd link in case anyone's interested.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/03/2010 20:09

quick - what's the closest veg to turnip (for cake baking)? Just editing ocado order now!

Kohl rabi? I've got loads of the bloody things in my fridge at the moment. Swede maybe?

Ekka · 07/03/2010 20:14

Myjob - that sounds fantastically healthy compared to us... We had a huge roast lamb for lunch today, yum! And I've just polished off a slice of ginger cake

Scarily enough - ds seems to be eating more than you! Yesterday for lunch he polished off an entire adult dish of spaghetti bolognese (in an Italian restaurant where portions are huge!) followed by a large banana and an organix biscuit bar. Then this lunchtime he had 3 helpings of roast dinner (so about another large adult portion size) followed by plum crumble. After all this eating I've had to put aside his jeans that fitted fine yesterday morning - he now pops open the button every time he moves

Star, glad to hear Q has a molar through, here's hoping the other three come through quickly now.

Pepper, we thought about going swimming, but never quite made it today! Brave of you going with 3!

Hmm... I'd have said carrot was closest to parsnip in flavour but carrot tends to grate up wetter than parsnip so might bugger the consistency. Have you not got the book to hand CSWS?

Awwww bless lovely S! that is soo sweet. DS was a very sensitive soul and got upset by things at a very young age. M is not. She would have probably slapped the picture of the bear and then laughed.

Ekka - Do you think ds is having a growth spurt? My M has started eating loads which is unlike her and she has even bulked up a bit in the last few days! I'm hoping she slims down again as her nappies don't fit as well when she gets a bit chunkier!

Myjob - More protein woman I've actually been pretty useless with dieting this week. I've not been 'bad' or eaten what normal people eat but I've not been very strict with myself. I am stepping up my game as of tomorrow!

M surprised us a couple of times today with her speech. Firstly DH was having a cup of tea and she pointed, laughed and said "tea, hot" then pretended to blow. It was clear as anything. Then at bed time she said "Daddy go. Night night" then pointed to the light and said "off off, shut door". I think she was tired!

Ah, you didn't specify the buffet food. Egg is good protein, beans are ok and cheese was probably a tiny amount, but yes the cold meats are excellent.

aubergenie · 07/03/2010 20:41

Clever M, 50ft. We're nowhere near that kind of talking here. I suppose that's partly why I was surprised by his reaction to the bear. How funny that your ds did the same, Myjob.

Ekka - I meant to say that I watched your fb video with S. He loved it! He kept saying "more, more" so we watched it over and over again. I love the fact that your ds has got the same crazy hair that S has.

Thanks ladies. I read the blurb at the start of the book and based on her descriptions of wood/water veg I am going to do a mix of parsnip and courgette. It's for the steamed golden syrup sponge pudding, which will be one of my 3 desserts when I host our pudding club on Friday.
I want a simple puff pastry and/or fruit dessert for one of the options, which needs to be dairy (or at least lactose) free, as one of the other ladies is lactose intolerant herself. I have a tonne of blackberries in the freezer that we picked last year, so am thinking of something like the top recipe on here, because it's bloody simple and uses the ingredients that I want to use! Does it sound ok-ish at least? Might have a trial run doing a smaller version earlier in the week. I'll offer custard and ice-cream to go with it.

Your food looks fairly ok to me myjob, though poss not eating enough. I remember the first time I joined slimming world and didn't lose anything in the first week, the class told me to eat more the following week. I thought that they were mad, but I did and lost a few pounds!

Sounds like lots of growth spurts for the dc. Ds has eaten absolutely masses this weekend! I unfortunately also ate masses (well, the wrong things more than masses overall) for dinner this evening, and got a blood test result of 10.2, when it's supposed be below 7.8 - oops! I had white pasta and garlic ciabatta, neither of which was a good idea, and used up the last of the salad leaves with it, so didn't have as much 'good stuff' to balance it out.

Yay to tooth cutting star. I still can't decide if it's the points or the flat bit of the molars that cause the most grief though!

Yes Nettie - you have spelled spaghetti wrong !
