Hi girls, thought the old thread was in need of a spring clean, plus, I'm sure if my memory serves me right, one of us had our May-due baby in March (Macoco???) so someone is 2 soon....!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks ladies! But he has yet to put a ring on my finger! We'v been together 9 years this spring. He got down on one knee after a year together, but was told in no uncertain terms that I would only say yes if he presented me with a ring (every girl deserves a diamond after all!), He never has. But we'v discussed the big day at length a couple of hundred times. Although, this time the conversation has went that bit further and we'r activily looking at venues and prices.
I want to get excited, but until my left hand is diamond heavy im siting with weighted breath (or what ever the saying is).

Loving the Ebay idea, should really set up a account.
I have a few ideas regarding invites, table decorations etc but have yet to look at prices. Im actually looking forward to make these sorts of things, I find organising things purposeful and therapuetic.
Dp's bil is a semi professional photographer, but even at cost price its still pricey.
Our problem with winesses is that we both have big families so it would be hard to choose iykwim

Havent looked at wedding bands at all yet. Have saw a lovely dress on the BHS website, loving the charity shop idea for dresses. Feeling a wee trip to Glasgows west end for that shopping trip!
Is it acceptable to ask/expect bridesmaids to pay towards their dress?

My mum and I were looking online at a few local hotels today, and saw one that we like, and is really quite good for price. But we would have to be very selective with the evening guest list.

Do want to ask my parents if they can help out financially. But really hopeing they can. After all they did pay for all of my sisters wedding 18years ago...

LuckyLight · 08/01/2011 18:46

Depending on who your bridesmaids are and if they are aware that you are trying to do it as 'cheaply' (sorry, horrible word, but you knwo what I mean) as possible. What is their financial situation. Also, maybe put it to them that if you chose a dress they could wear again, like the Monsoon ones, or bhs do some nice ones, would they mind splitting the cost?

I got my shoes, tiara from bhs (9 yrs ago). Tiara was £15, elsewhere were nearer £100. Shoes were £15. I know someone who spent £2000 on her wedding shoes alone.....FFS, what is the point of that.

We did our wedding fairly reasonably, we actively kept the cost down. I said at the time, and I still say, that what was important to us was that we were getting married and making that vow to each other, it was about us, not the fecking venue and the flowers, IYKWIM. I usually find this shuts people up, cos you can't really argue with that.
ALSO the friends of mine who are more moneyed and had very elaborate weddings, have mostly had marital problems early on in their marriages. I realise of course this is not always the case, but I do think some brides get carried away with the whole day, and forget waht really matters......LOVE!!!

Sorry, ramble over!

shonnomanom · 08/01/2011 20:00

That was my thinking Lucky, that the girls (all family)get to wear the dresses again.
That is rediculus, £2000 on a tiara!! Shock
Iv always been a believer that a wedding is just one day, the honeymoon is even longer and marraige is for life.

In our pre-child days we used to talk about a small lo-key wedding, round the world trip for the honeymoon and have a party when we get back.
This plan was back when I was working FT in the travel industry and could get decent discounts! Although the discounts are the only things I miss from back then! haha

Willabywallaby · 14/01/2011 23:57

Evening all!

Just been out so a little drunken post is called for!

sho how's the wedding plans going?

LM been thinking of doing WW!!! Jeans feeling tight(er) after Christmas Sad.

Preggers ladies, how's it going?

Had an unsuccessful coil fit on Monday eve, could get into my cervix, not a fun experience. It was at the family planning clinic because they tried at my surgery after DS1 and my cervix went into spasm....

They have suggested and implant, sterilisation, or have it fitted under GA,not keen on any options so have an appt with my GP booked for Wed to discuss. Also going to discuss some mindfulness techniques to help sleeping. I didn't sleep Wednesday night but managed to work Thursday and sleep that night.

baiyu been thinking of you x.

MM how are you?

And anyone else, hope you're well x

Willabywallaby · 15/01/2011 19:26

Just reread, they couldn't get into my cervix...

Looking forward to an early night tonight!

shonnomanom · 15/01/2011 20:46

Hey ww got to love a drunken post, my initial wedding talk post was also drunken. Good times.

Wedding plans are slowly progressing. Think we are both agredd on the location. Have discussed money matters with both dp and my mum. And mum has offered to fund the evening section of the event.
We figure that if the whole event is in the one hotel then we dont need cars. I saw lovely, very real looking, artificial flowers in John Lewis today. They were made up into small bunchies. Was thinking that we could do something like that for the bridesmaids. Would need to price the rel thing before we decide.

We'r not sure yet when we are thinking of doing it but it will be within the next 2 years for sure. My brother and his gf are in the process of amending their application for emigrating to Oz and have been told to expect 1.6y for finalising things. Obviously I need to have my big brother and one of my bridesmaids at the wedding!
Although, we found out today that my brother and his gf are 7weeks pregnant so we will need to be carefull with timing if she is going to be bridesmaid.

Started weightwatchers this week. So far so good. The wedding is my motivation, I figure just being fat isnt enough Smile

ww good luck with your GP visit.
baiyu thinking of you too x
Pregnant ladies, I hope your bumps are blooming nicely.
Hope everyone else is fine and dandy!

GP visit quite positive, he also thinks a GA for a coil fitting is a bit extreme and agrees with my GP friend who thinks I should try with the family planning boss. Also discussed mindfulness do need to book in and do a session.

Off to weight Watchers this evening, another Mum from school wants to come too, but I know she'll be more motivated than me so think I may be better on my own. Anyway got to give it a go, my comfort eating is getting of control.

shonnomanom · 20/01/2011 14:25

Glad you ohad a positive visit with your GP ww
How are you finding weightwatchers? I had my first weigh in this morning and lost 4lbs. Very chuffed and surprised as hadnt expected that much.

Hope everyone is well!

Sho x

Mitchell81 · 20/01/2011 15:14

Sho well done on the weight loss,
Willaby hope WW goes well for as well.
I have done it and it definitley works.

I have got over the dreaded all day sickness and am now 16 and 1/2 weeks.
Started DS2 at playgroup only 2 days a week, today was his 4th time and he cries everytime I leave and not overly happy at all. I stay for most of the time and have only left for between 10 and 20 minutes.
I can't see him settling as he is definetly not getting any less clingy. ( He has been left with friends and family- so used to being without me)

Willabywallaby · 20/01/2011 16:19

Well done Sho only my first day, so not really sure what I'm doing!

Pleased to hear sickness is subsiding Mitchell, my DS2 drives me mad with 'I don't like nursery'. He's been going for 2 years but likes to tug my heart strings. Hope he settles.

shonnomanom · 21/01/2011 14:05

ww the best piece of advice I can give you is to plan what your dinner is that day then work everything else around it. Also, find yourself a treat of low propoints value for those harder days. curly wurly = 3pp quavers = 2pp good luck! x

mitchell glad your feeling better now. And that ds settles in to his playgroup for you.

I gave dd a big fright today. We were on our way out to go to the school assembley. Dd and I were at the top of the stairs when I slipped and bounced off every step. She never spoke for ages and then when we got to the school she wouldnt leave me be, just wanted to be touching me at all times. Poor wee lamb! Ps, Im ok, just got a sore tailbone.

Sho x

LuckyLight · 21/01/2011 20:56

Oh dear Sho, hope you're OK?

Blimey, I am really struggling to keep up with the WW thread....1000 posts since the beginnning of the year?!!

shonnomanom · 22/01/2011 09:28

I know lucky its really fast moving isnt it! I cant keep up.

Im really stiff and sore this morning. Feel like im in need of a hip replacement. And of course dd just wants to jump up on top of mummy today which isnt helping.

Going to panto with the Brownies tonight. Its an amatuer dramatics group and some of the girls go to school with some of the cast so their all really excited. Iv weighed out 100g of Malteasers, how sad!, for panto munshies. Works out at 14 pp so that will be coming out of the extra allowance that I dont want to use.

Getting my window and roof fixed on Monday, yyeeaaahhhh!! Just need to reaarange all my furniture so they have proper access. Not an easy task with dp sleeping after his nightshift.

Hope your all well and having a good weekend
Sho x

LuckyLight · 22/01/2011 15:10

sho enjoy the panto, and well done for weighing out your maltesers, and don't be embarrassed about it, it's things like that that will make you successful!!!!! I weigh bloody everything now!!

Hope your hip feels better soon, poor thing!

DD1 is down to start rainbows in June. Thanks for your help. It's only £1.20 a session!!

shonnomanom · 23/01/2011 10:25

Thats great Lucky she is going to love Rainbows!
Feeling a bit better today thanks

Willabywallaby · 24/01/2011 08:59

Off to Ikea this morning Grin

Mitchell81 · 24/01/2011 12:35

Started potty training Last week, going really well so far, yes I know some of you have cracked this months ago but was waiting for ds2 to decide for himself. And he just decided last sat that he wanted to wee in the potty. Hopefully continues with his success of very few accidents.

shonnomanom · 24/01/2011 14:03

Oh well done Mitchell jr, Keep up the good work!

WW have fun in Ikea, I could easily spend a small fortune there

We are getting our windows and roof fixed today. Dd has been surprisingly well behaved with the workers being in and out and all the noise. I thought she would have been alot more clingy. She's soo relaxed that she has went for her nap - very unexpected.

Willabywallaby · 24/01/2011 16:07

Well done Mitchell, we still have Nappies here, DS will sit on the potty before his bath and with his friends at nursery but has yet to produce anything. Hope your bump's behaving.

Hooray for getting you roof and window fixed Sho hope they do a speedy but excellent job.

shonnomanom · 30/01/2011 10:11

We'r having a hard time with dd at bedtime just now. Can I ask what your 2yo's sleep patterns are like please?

She's always up about 7am, as this is when dp comes home from work when he's on nightshift. She is usually standing in the hall in preparation for the front door opening!
I try my hardest to get her to go for a sleep after lunch or at the latest fall asleep in the car to my mums just before 3pm. If she hasnt fell asleep by 4pm then guarenteed she will not be my pleasant little girl by dinner time. Its like Jekkel and Hyde if she's tired!
In which case she will most definatley fall asleep in the ride home. By which point I know dd isnt going to be in bed at the right time.

BUT, on the occassion where dd does nap at the right time of day she doesnt want to go to bed at the right time. This is usually between 8-9pm depending on what night it is.
Her thing just now is claiming to need the toilet about 10mins after going to bed. This has been going on for weeks but her stubborn fight has been getting worse. Friday night there it was 1130pm before she gave up and fell asleep last night was 1030pm!

In order to try and conker this toilet demand she goes straight from the toilet to her bed, where she gets her nappy on. But its not working.
Its drving me crazy!! I need my child-free time and she's stealing it!! And DP is about to start a 3rd week of night shift so its back to just me dealing with the fight of my stubborn 2yo

I do humour her at least once and let her go to the toilet. But usually after 20 mins on the toilet we'r lucky if she has managed to muster up some wind. By which time I get a 'sorry mummy' and of she goes to bed. But ony for 5 or 10mins.

aaarrrrggggghhhhhh!
