LOL I getcha VG. I got married at 23 so yeah, hadn't really achieved much in my own right so didn't feel I was losing anything by taking his name. Everything I have done to be proud of has been with him. Plus part of getting married for me was shout it to the world, a namechange is quite attention seeking really. Tried to convince DH to change his name to a cool amalgamation of our surnames but he was too lazy and once we were married it would have been hassle. But we still consider our fantasy Gorillaz-style cartoon selves as The Blades .

First Time Wibbles alert - DS1 has gone for tea at his friend's house. Feels really strange to know I can trust him to behave on his own.

hotterpotter · 15/03/2010 18:47

We thought of making a new name for us both when we married, but we both had -son surnames so any amalgamation would have been stupid, and there are just too many others to choose from so we couldn't choose . As my dad was a twat I was quite happy to change names, and quite nice to have a name fractionally less common than the previous one...

Evening

Chilli and rice made and consumed by all here.

DD and I have had the most wonderful day, we went to the Cotswold Wildlife Park on a spur of the moment thought. We left reins and buggy at home and she led the way once we got there. I offered her a number of options and she chose where to gallop to. She seemed so much more interested in things this time she and knew exactly what she wanted to see. We had such a blast I had forgotten in the humdrum of daily routine how much fun she really is and how wonderful it is just to be us without any expectation from anyone.

Miamla - You sound fantastically organised

I took DH's name when we married as mine was a VERY obscure and I fancied something simpler.

Hi everyone else

poppysocks · 15/03/2010 20:29

Ah you see oops, I was the opposite. Horribly ten-a-penny name with far too much punning potential - and yet still one that I needed to spell every fecking time. So.... have swapped it for a marginally obscure name with much punning potential that still needs to be spelt every fecking time. Does make it easier being Mrs X mother to child X though. Lovely description of your day btw .

Evening all. Will try to pop up more often now that things are slightly more reasonably paced. [phew]

Sorry to have missed tons of news from everyone but eek and yay for all the maybe pg ladies and a huge yay for our very nearly bride. So excited for you miamla. We're going to DD2's godmother's nuptials the same day. I foreee clear, blue, sunny skies.

What else have I missed?

GladioliBuckets · 15/03/2010 21:18

Poppy did it rhyme with your MN name by any chance?

Aayeesh I need to go to bed, still catching up from Saturday's excesses. Kurt's yodelling seems to have settled down at last so we are getting better quality sleep with less bedhopping, and generally no earlier than 6.45 grizzling. Am going to put off converting his cotbed though til his language picks up a bit and there is no pretending that bedroom rules aren't understood.

dizzydixies · 15/03/2010 21:58

evening all, busy couple of days here so apologies for absence - hope you all had lovely mothering Sundays

I had to work as did DH so it was a bit of a nothing but I'd had a nice day at the beach with the girls on the Sat and DH has been with them all day today - I think it was probably for the best tbh, I had less time to think iykwim?

work been extremelly busy and had a trust meeting tonight - am about to throw in the towel, its just all becoming such a pita

DH and I sitting watching HEROS before bed, we've DD2's preschool jabs in the morning and I finally have the physio too

am trying to keep up so please excuse my lack of individual replies

pertelote · 15/03/2010 22:04

Evening all!

Miamla good work on the dress, very excitingly close now isn't it! Good for DP wanting to continue hanging out with T, too - DH really loves his days with DD. Today they met one of her little friends in the park and DD was able to introduce everyone to each other

Oops your day sounds so lovely Lots of lovely days yesterday too - very nice to hear.

I am very firmly Ms Firstname Hisname. At least on those accounts I use enough to have bothered to change . I was required to keep my father's surname growing up and I did not enjoy a) not having a say in the matter; b) when my mother had my half-brother and then remarried, the 'confusing' (sure this is not how it would be seen nowadays) fact of having different surnames within our household. So both the changing itself and the fact that DH, DD and I have the same name were important to me. Can't do Mrs though and as for Mr & Mrs Hisfirstname Hislastname -

poppysocks · 15/03/2010 22:07

dizzy you mustn't throw in the towel. You've done so much good work, you can't leave now and miss all the glory - that's if they make it without you. Sorry it's feeling too much of a slog atm, but maybe it's like whipping cream - just when you decide that you'll never get there it finally works out(!).

LOL buckets. No. MN name is just utterly, utterly random. No meaning, nothing amusing. Just popped into my head when I finally got round to registering.

dizzydixies · 15/03/2010 22:11

poppy, they're now back tracking on the job front and I'm not best please - a long and boring saga which I won't waste more thread space on

how are you, are you home? how has the building work gone?

evening Pert - I love the idea of M introducing DH to all her friends lol

glads, perts, pops, peeps, shalom.

GreenGardenia · 15/03/2010 22:29

Oh Sazz good luck in morning ducks. No better ass kicker than you, I feel, but you need the vibes anyway. Bon courage.

poppysocks · 15/03/2010 22:40

Good luck sazzles. Is this likely to draw everything to a conclusion?

What a bugger dizzy. Don't walk away from all your hard work though. I'm sure things will work out . Building work more or less complete here thanks. Just the tiler to come next week. Still need to work out what sort of tiles though... Spent most of Saturday boring the girls - and ourselves - stupid trailing round tile places and still have no idea what would look good. Oh well. Plenty of boxes to unpack until we have to make an impulsive decision that we'll probably regret. Hey ho. Did L's postcard arrive?

Hello pert and green

A bientot ladies. Bed beckons.

dizzydixies · 15/03/2010 22:44

Poppy - it took me 2yrs to choose the tiles once the new bathroom went in post card arrived thank you and L delighted!

Morning all

Man here to fit the doors but discovered 4 of the 11 have 'damaged to return' written on them so have to go back AGAIN We think the just wanted the builder off their back so delivered regardless of condition. Atleast the guy has enough to get on with for today. And I have doors to oil tonight!

Sazz - hope meeting goes well.

Miamla - great to see everything coming together so well.

Dizzy - They are being very being very off - shall we tool up?

Pert - I think it is great M and DH goe out to meet her friends - DH is too shy to go out and meet DD's friends.

Hellllllloooo to everyone else.

QueenofDreams · 16/03/2010 09:17

Morning all
still house of cold here. not much going on apart from dp detroying the fecking stairgate. And S having traumas when daddy left for work.
sazz and dizzy very at you both being messed around and underappreciated.

When dp and I eventually marry I will take his surname. Mainly because mine is such a pita to get british people to spell correctly.
ds just 'kissed' my boob strange and funny child he is

dizzydixies · 16/03/2010 10:27

best of luck this morning Sazz

on a totally different note am off to take DD2 for her pre school jabs and then get banded about by the physio [meep] and [sigh]

hotterpotter · 16/03/2010 10:33

Sazz I hope they have got their chequebook out today

Dizzy , I hope you can get it all sorted out to your advantage very soon.

oops re rubbish door supplier. Sounds like it is all coming together though.

Everyone else I missed last night, helloo

Queenie DS is full of cold here too, and this time has managed to infect me. Not really surprising given the amount of snot that has been flying around. He has learned, by copying his sister, to pick his nose and eat the bogies [ewww], and was even attempting to pick my nose and feed them to me
