hey all, just a quick hi, all is well here. Valentines day consisted of being woken up with a handmade card by DD saying 'happy love day mummy!', then cleaning the house, doing washing, dealing with a tantrummy girl, then home made biryani and a bottle of sancerre, while watching Time Travellers Wife which we did not watch the other night (watched some other crap). Was a good film.

ButterPie · 15/02/2010 13:26

Both kids are asleep! It's a miracle! I really should get some housework done, but instead I am arsing about online and watching music videos on the on demand thingy on the tv.

Why oh why must female artists ruin perfectly good songs by wiggling about half naked in the video? I'm not a prude, far from it, but there are so many videos that I can't even watch with DD1 in the room as she copies every dance she sees.

wook · 15/02/2010 15:57

Butterpie that drives me mental too- especially bloddy Shakira! Put it away Shakira!!!!

ButterPie · 15/02/2010 16:04

exactly! Shakira is a brilliant role model generally, but the videos ruin it. There's a bit of an air of desperation about it as well.

ursigurke · 15/02/2010 16:59

Butterpie and wook, I even haven't thought yet about Paula seeing them on TV in a couple of years but I do hate that female singer seem to only sell their music with their body! It is so annoying!

scarlotti · 16/02/2010 08:27

Morning all

Had a lovely weekend at my Mum's although sleeping wasn't as great - dh and I were sharing a bed which we're not used to, and Ioan has started to wake at least 2 or 3 times a night and the first is now at 2am He's 14 weeks so is this how it's going to be now until he's weaned? Am wondering if it's a growth spurt (please?) as hopefully that might mean it won't last! He's been doing it though now for a good week or so

My neice was on a little home movie the other day singing 'all the single ladies...' a la Beyonce ... she's 2 at least she wasn't shaking her bootie yet!

ursigurke · 16/02/2010 09:12

scarlotti, I do believe in a 14 weeks growth spurt, there has to be one, please .
The last week was horrible for me, there were nights were she woke up every hour!

Last night was suddenly much better though (the night before was okish too). Paula went to bed at 8.15 which is earlier than usual, woke twice until 9 when I fed her again. At 11, I had several attempts to sooth her without nipple but I had to take her out of the cot. I was wondering if I had to feed her again but decided to wait. In the end she slept until 4, when we had a rather big but quick feed and then again only at 7. So even if she woke up several times, it seems as one good and big break is really near and I wonder if it has been some kind of growth spurt (2 days ago she turned already from belly to back when naked) or if it has been due to her immunisation. Could that be a side effect? She didn't seem to have any pain and didn't have any fever but sleepless nights for almost a week.

Anyway, got an unusual amount of sleep and would have lots of energy but it is heavily raining so I guess we won't go and visit our colleagues in the park cafe. And I will certainly not waste my energy on anything in the house
I hope everybody else on here is fine, got enough sleep and is enjoying a very active and funny baby.

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 09:39

ursi wow! she is in the move already!!! You might have a fast one there! DD rolled very very early, and crawled early and walked before 9 months and has not stopped moving. She even figits in her sleep! (like her mama!). Babies do often had disturbed sleep when they reach a milestone, rolling, crawling, first steps, first words, and many others too. DD certainly did so it might well explain why Paula has had a few bad nights. Well done Paula!

butterpie i dislike it too. I don't watch music tv for that reason. I remember being around a friend's once and she had MTV or something on in th background and her DS was playing (about 3 at the time) and i remember seeing a video with about 4 girls dancing almost naked to a song and being horrified, it was not an adult song as such, nothing you would restrict your child from hearing and I was very concerned about the subconscious impact this would have on his views of women, and vowed DD would not be exposed to it for as long as i possibly had any control over it.

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 09:40

No, she did not walk before 9 months. That is a complete lie. I have no idea where the 9 came from. She was walking before 12 months. Not 9 , that would have been super fast!!!

claired21 · 16/02/2010 09:54

Morning ladies

Glad to see Mumsnet healthy again!

Well Ethan's first 24 hours in real nappies is now complete, the overnight nappy was fine (surprisingly!) and I have already washed and hung up the first load. They are huge on him but hopefully he'll grow quickly and they'll be more in proportion. Also brewing some camomile tea at the moment for my washable wipes... Pav is it you who has always used washable wipes? Do you just use water or a solution?

Not much else to report here. Ethan sleeps well from midnight to around 8 with one wake for a 10m feed and straight back to bed. I'm gradually trying to settle him earlier but with difficulty. His face is changing at the moment, he's starting to look more like his Dad, poor thing.

It's nice to hear you all talking about future plans for your daughters. I'd like to bring Ethan up to respect women and treat them well. Although it is very odd to think of him as a teenager starting to date as he lies cooing in the playgym with Olly the Octopus & co! It's lovely to look ahead and try to imagine their personality, what they'll look like, how they'll get on in school, what they will go on to do after school... Toy designer perhaps. Or comedian. Maybe a model? (I can dream!)

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 10:01

claire no not me! i use ctton wool and water, very occasionally i use wetwipes mainly when oot n aboot.

Reuben has a fever which won't go down with calpol , 38.7 currently.

claired21 · 16/02/2010 10:08

Pav Poor Reuben, are you going to take him to the doc's? Is he ok other than the temp?

I usually use cotton wool and water, wipes occasionally, but going through a ridiculous amount of cotton wool so figured I'd start on the washable wipes, especially as they can just go in the bucket with the nappies to be washed so not too much effort involved.

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 10:28

thats a good idea re the wipes.

Not sure what doc can do really. i am keeping an eye, and giving more calpol in a mo. if that does not reduce it, i will call doc for phone chat and he will prob say go in.

Athough thinking about it he has a green gungy eye so might need ointment for it (and green nose) poor thing.

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/02/2010 10:45

Can you give neurofen? Better than calpol for temps. Writting one handed!

sleeplessinthecity · 16/02/2010 10:56

Hey All,

am knitting a hair rug for myself from all the hair that is falling out..its really depressing..

Lemon and Fruit have you tried a humidifier. Works wonders here and keeps the snuffles at bay with all the other things you're trying. Keep it close to the cot tho. Inclines help too. Have to use it for both kids as its snuffles season here.

MIL HAS GONE WOOP WOOP

sleeplessinthecity · 16/02/2010 10:58

Pav I was going to ask about your wonder baby till you corrected yourself!!

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 11:00

i read that last bit wrong about your MIL sleepless. i read it and thought 'my mil has always been woop woop!!!' .

BBL typing one handed too! abd laying down as he won't let me put him down. I have nurofen but thought it was for 6m+?

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 11:04

lol! yes she might have made news! She was walking just short of her 1st birthday. Can't remember exactly but have film of her on her feet on her birthday, so about 2 wks before

raggie · 16/02/2010 11:07

Claire - I wonder if we have the same playmat as we have christened one of the toys Olly the Octopus too! My dad got ours for us but I think it's a Baby Einstein one - has a music and lights box too. Well done on the reusables - we are still half and half here and definitely not nights. I go through a few days where they work brilliantly and then a few where every one seems to leak. Can't work out what I'm doing wrong. I must call the nappy lady for some advice if it continues.

Had a nice weekend with my mum visiting. Normally quite stressful when we're together but was just about fine which was great!

Horrible day today so I am going to install myself in the kitchen and make muffins and.........PANCAKES of course! Yum! Want to take it v easy as I am attempting a mammoth day tomorrow - Big Scream am (possibly...), NCT meet up pm (definitely!), yoga evening (hopefully...)

Bets on how many will actually happen?

raggie · 16/02/2010 11:09

Oh sorry to hear about reuben's temp pav Hope he's on the mend soon with a little medicine.

Also meant to say we use washable wipes, just water usually. I tried the camomile recipe you posted Claire but it was a bit too much hassle - as I'm usually grabbing the wipes off the clothes drier as I change her bum!

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 11:15

raggie blimey a busy day!

I have first court hearing tomorrow regarding builder. he makes me so just thinking about him. Seeing as Reuben is poorly, we don't really think it is fair to get someone to look after him and Bella tomorrow, so a friend is going to look after Bella and DH and I will go to court ith Reuben. DH will wait outside/in nearby coffee bar and i am going to go in on my own! I checked if this is ok with the court as DH and I are joint claimants/defendants and that is fine. So have my suit all sorted, doing paperwork and questions this afternoon. I am nervous. Not of the court process, i know that well, and am not worried about our side of events as we know they are true. But i am a little apprehensive about being face to face with him so closely, as unlike in my job, i will not be sat on a prosecutors bench to start with! And he is likely to get aggressive. So wish me luck!

Trikken · 16/02/2010 11:19

Pav hope Reuben's fever comes down soon.

Have only just managed to get dressed, have had dh home for a few days so have gotten used to having his help. tho sat he couldnt do much having a bad shoulder, as another car hit the side of his when he was on his way to work. which smashed the wing mirror, pushing it in through the window so he got covered in glass as it shattered everywhere. luckily it was five mins from our house so he could just about get back home ok, glad it want worse and that his shoulder is recovered already .

Belle has had a growth spurt. All of a sudden she doesnt fit into her clothes so dh and I (plus In-Laws) went to Poole dolphin centre yesterday to get some more outfits for her, which actually turned out to be a really nice day.

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2010 11:23

trikken ow your poor DH, is he ok now? Is he going to claim for injury on insurance, is car ok? Oh lots of questions.

I am unfortunately not even out of bed, or dressed. Reuben won't let me leave him alone without crying in a really sad, unhappy distressed way, he is actually doing that baby 'waaaaaaah' which he has never done before. He is currently letting me have him on the bed on his side snuggled into my boobs (so i can type at least!), but he occasionally stretches his arms out like he is making sure i am still there and if i am not so close he can rub his face on my boobs and feel my arms around him he cries, does not want to be on his own.

I best get up soon though, lots to do today.

Trikken · 16/02/2010 11:45

he's ok, he didnt take the other person's insurance details, even though they stopped.personally I would have taken his details whether I used them or not. he didnt want the insurance to go up. car was a bit of a state but dh and fil managed to find a spare window and a wing mirror for £40 quid, which was amazing as it should have been so much more new. fil managed to mend it that afternoon. have the bast fil ever!

Trikken · 16/02/2010 11:49

best I mean, not bast. That sounds almost rude.
