Oh and Rubs I had similar ishoos with my GP practice when I changed to a private midwife apart from treating me like I was some freebirthing (sandal wearing) crazy women they seemed completely baffled as to what to do when I wanted bloods done at 32 weeks (the bloods the NHS midwives hadn't done at 28weeks and I had to have a full GP examination before he would write up my bloods order (just to check I was actually pregnant I presume). Anyway your case is not unusual whatever they say, just before I concieved DS1 the govt in a effort to give women 'more choice' in maternity care, made it possible to choose a hospital out of area to have their maternity care. The women is still entitled to have some of the antenatal care at her local GP if she wishes and it works if everyone talks to each other. If you do find you are having too much grief just contact the practice manager the lead community midwife or the PCT.

A friend of mine enquired about having her baby at Thommies when she lived in Lewisham, the GP said 'yeah that's fine and you can still have your antenatal care here I think' meaning at the surgery. She then asked what about my postnatal care is that here too, the GP asked 'what postnatal care?' my friend said like midwife visits at home etc. The GP looked completely baffled and said no you don't have anyone come visit afterwards you just have the HV appointment after 2 weeks'!!!!! Of course he was wrong they do have Postnatal from the surgery. Not sure what planet the GP was on.

Just a really really quick post. DH has a new job, he will be working 12 hour shifts. I am hoping it will be better than it sounds but he will earn more than the 2 of us combined per month. I have got to now try and find some childcare. We're going to ask MIL if her situation has changed if not it will be a nursery or I will be quitting work. I don't want to quit immediately as I would like to use my wages to clear some of our debt.

I hope everyone is ok.

daisydora · 15/01/2010 20:36

kayz that is fab news on DH's job! I do hope MIL can help out with childcare, it would be great if you can use this opportunity to clear some debts, especially if you TTC #3 soon!

I do hope aub is okay!

Can i also take this opportunity to sat DS's new shoes are the cutest things! Who'd have thought I could get so excited over a couple of bits of leather

traceface · 15/01/2010 20:53

hi guys.
well done mrkayz on the job.
daisy bless you. I want to give you a big hug. Lots of peace and strength to you over the next few days and weeks. And I'm very excited about the mini-shoes! Post us a pic!
Can someone keep us posted on babyAub - I'm not on FB. Ta x
urbane sorry you're sick. Hope you manage to get some rest tonight. Poor you.
P has had a cough and cold since Tuesday so I'm wondering if it's SF jab related. She also has a big hard bit around the jab (about fist size) - have any others had similar after their jab? She's due her MMR on Wednesday too. Poor thing.
L keeps having bad dreams so we've banned Scooby-doo! She likes watching it and isn't scared at the time, but I wonder whether the images get her subconscious going in the night!
Thanks for asking about the CPN appointment. Not quite sure what's happening but I got a call yesterday from her saying that she'd discussed me with my psych consultant and that she needs to see me within the next week. I was due to see CPN again in 10 days so I'm a bit concerned as to what is so important that it can't wait till next tuesday. I'm quite sure she'll be upping my meds again but I'm worried that she'll make me stop work again I guess there's no point guessing why she wants me - i'll find out next week.

Veggiemummy · 15/01/2010 21:43

Daisy I still have the photos clarke took of DS1 with his first pair of shoes (actually they also took a photo for his 2nd pair 7 weeks later I think the Clarks guy at Lewisham was on drugs) it is the cutest thing he looks completely baffled by the whole thing.

I was singing 'row row row your boat' to DS2 in the bath tonight which he gets very excited about, when I finished I swear he said 'row' it may have been mow but I sang it twice more and both times when I stopped he got excited and said row (or mow).

Kayz that brilliant news about DHs job! I used to do 12hr shifts they're not that bad how many days a fornight does he work?

Aubergines · 15/01/2010 21:47

Evening all,

as days go this has not been the best. Got DD1 to the GP late morning by which time she was looking pretty ill. The GP found her temp was 40.7 (after ibuprofen and paracetamol) and her pulse was very fast. As the GP could not find where the infection stemmed from she sent us to A&E. I quickly roped my MiL in to looking after DD2 and off I went. After several hours of umming and ahhing about what tests to do the doctors diagnosed tonsillitis and we have been sent home. DD1 still pretty poorly but glad to be in her own bed.

On arrival home MiL proudly announced that DD2 had slept for four hours at nap time! Needless to say I was not pleased as (a) I was not around to benefit and (b) DD2 refused to sleep until 9 this evening. Gah.

Sorry about constant stream of "me" posts. I am pleased for your DH Kayz and I am thinking of Trace and hoping your CPN doesn't make you do anything you don't want to do.

Got to sleep now. I have low expectations for tonight.

zoejeanne · 15/01/2010 22:02

A v quick post as I'm on my phone and I don't trust it ... But I wanted to announce that I got a 'crikey' from DH last night (which made me giggle uncontrollably dos a bit, until I could refocus on the job)...

Welcome to tortoise (when I'm back on the pc I'll dig out that list of babies and their vital statistics, so that you can add you and babytortoise)

Aubi I do hope your DD is ok? Your DH should be banned from going away, as he seems to take all your immune systems with him

zoejeanne · 15/01/2010 22:15

Phone going wierd, so will just say to AceTrace that I do hope you can stay at work (if you want to, that is), you always sound like you enjoy it, even the emotional side, so that can only be good for you, right? Could you maybe ask for a cleaner and housekeeper on the NHS instead, that'd give you a well deserved break

Cross posted with Aubi, relieved to hear that you're home, I hope you all get a good nights sleep

Lots of love to everyone else, I'll catch up with everyone else v soon

MomOrMum · 15/01/2010 22:20

Oh dear Aub. My DH is going away on Sunday for 8 days and I fear I will be hit with similar chaos. It is always when they're away, isn't it? I hope your DD1 is feeling okay, and a 4 hour nap...wow. Hoping you get some sleep - at least the madness will make the days tick by to Tuesday faster, no??

Trace - Scooby Doo is terrifying, I'm with your DD! Hope your CPN is able to help and not add to your anxiety.

DS has peeped about 15 times since bedtime already. Not optimistic about the night ahead.

Night night all.

OP posts:
daisydora · 15/01/2010 22:41

aub I hope that DD1 has a good night for you. Much love to you all xx

Oh and trace we have stopped DD watching DVD's (favourites are Ice Age & Madagascar) but I fear that her head is being filled with nonsense. she rambles at times and often wakes in the night reciting scripts

veggie loved your Row story, I too am convinced that DS says 'row' but when I sing 'if you see a crocodile...' he screams at the end! Simon Cowell DS will be on Britains Got Talent next year

urbanewarrior · 16/01/2010 00:49

Aub I hope you're all sleeping and that tomorrow is better. Poor you.

Kayzr · 16/01/2010 10:43

Morning,

Aub I hope that DD1 is feeling better. Sending lots of get well vibes in your direction.

Trace I hope that you don't have to stop working.

Veggie That is a great story about DS2. Both my boys love doing 'Row Row Your Boat'. Like Daisy's DS they both scream if we sing the crocodile version.

DH was talking to someone that used to use the only nursery we have here and it is £24 a day or £12 for half a day. The only problem is that they start at 8am. But I will be starting work at 7am. So not sure at all what to do. I might see if it is possible to work round DH's shifts or to see if I can stop starting at 7am. I do want to stop working but I'd rather try to pay of a lot of our debts. It is only a few credit cards but we only pay the minumum amount every month but in about 4 months we could have them all paid off.

Hope everyone is well.

Kayzr · 16/01/2010 14:16

I really am struggling to find anyone who can have the boys. The Nursery doesn't open until 8 but I start work at 7am twice a week. So we have an hour when we have no childcare.

zoejeanne · 16/01/2010 21:08

Hello, I?m back at the PC now, not on my silly phone, so will do a proper catch up. DH is out with his friends, one of whom is staying tonight so god only knows what sort of kerfuffle I?ll wake up to in the early hours. However it does mean that I?ve dug out my secret santa's basket of treats and I?m pampering myself and munching my way through all the goodies

Rubena it all sounds to have been very overcomplicated for you. I?m struggling to get my head around it all as, apart from the initial appointment with the dr when we first found out I was pregnant, we didn?t see anyone til the 12 week scan. And the first time we heard DD?s heartbeat was at 16 weeks. I am v impressed that you?ve already heard your LO?s heartbeat, I was under the impression that it couldn?t be heard so early, but that?s obviously so we can have fewer appointments round here ...

Kiwi DH and I had the ?is she a baby or toddler? discussion last week, and concluded baby for a while longer yet (and she has quite a temper on her, so I?m not looking forward to toddler tantrums)

Tooth brushing varies from day to day with us, some days I can?t get the toothbrush back from DD and other days she refuses to have anything to do with it. It is mainly chewing, but I try to have a little scrub if I can manage it. I found that if I brush my teeth at the same time she is quite happy to brush/chew too ? however recently she?s taken to demanding my toothbrush when she?s seen me using it!

WG I hope your good cry was therapeutic for you, have a hug from me

Congratulations mrKayz on the job, I hope you can solve the childcare problem quickly. When does he start?

Veggie I?ve been meaning to ask for ages, can you get G&B butterscotch in Holland? hiding the rapidly disappearing bar of G&B that reminded me

Tortoise, here?s the list I promised to dig out from the last thread. Not everyone posts these days, but its lovely when they pop in

Veggiemummy · 16/01/2010 21:55

No ZJ I cannot...and now I am craving it desperately and kicking myself for not partaking of it when I was last in London!!! Thanks

Kayz that's a bit of a nightmare, we used to have similar problems in London as DS1 started nursery at 8am and I started work an hour away at 8am. It was fine when DH was working from the London office as he started at 9 but as he was often away I had to start work late and then finish work bang on five to get to him before nursery closed at 6pm. It was a factor in me quitting work I have to admit. Hope you can work it out.

Kayzr · 16/01/2010 22:18

I love seeing that list Zoe it's really interesting.

On the job front. I have decided to ask if I can work between 9 and 4. If not I am handing in my notice on Monday. But we worked out that 3/4 of my wages will be spent on childcare and I am struggling to see the point TBH.

LadyThompson · 16/01/2010 22:43

Hello dear girls

The Richard Curtis is on the go again - Bridget Jones this time. The depiction of what it's like to work in publishing isn't very accurate. But the po-faced barrister who finds it hard to show his feelings is deeply accurate. The thing I like most about it is that when Colin and Hughie have the fight at the end, London looks so beeyootiful.

Aubi, what an awful worry you have had! I do hope DD1 is feeling better. It must have been very frightening. When precisely is your DH back - is it next week?

Rubes - lovely to hear the heartbeat Sorry it's all so hassly with the arrangements. How have you been with the needles thing?

AceTrace...I must say I don't like this thing of them keeping you dangling and wondering, that must be hard. I hope they don't sign you off if that's not what you want. How has L been?

Kayz - smashing news about your DH. Do you think your work would be amenable to you starting at 8?

Veg, I meant to say, I was sad when you said you wished you'd kept your DS1 at home and not sent him to school. I can just imagine when DD starts school how I will wondering if she is happy and enjoying it and has made chums. One would feel so powerless, and your DS1 is so brave to go to school where he doesn't speak the language. Well, you all are!

All this talk of Wii has made me wonder whether I should get one. Mmm.

Well, back from the Big Smoke. Lunch in Primrose Hill yesterday, was hoping to see someone from my office so I could be icy but I didn't, although Des O'Connor was at a nearby table Then Fulham in the evening cos some good friends have moved back from Tanzania for 6 months. It's lovely to have them back but then they are off to Sudan for two years so I won't see then then. And today I've been mooching round galleries. All with DD, bless her.

Managed to have a bad row with DP on Thursday night. Really not good. Things are a bit hard at the mo. Nothing to do with the You Know What - other stuff. Anyway, super sympathies with Daisy on the rowing front - it makes everything feel so much worse, doesn't it?

JJ, that fake laughing sounds hilarious

Urbaneski, I do so hope you are feeling a heck of a lot better.

Feeling a bit fed up. I think it's the row with DP. I mean, we sort of made up on the phone yesterday, but this is a relationship I really have to work at and that makes me a bit sad. Frankly, I don't want to have to work hard. I don't think that's very romantic. But I am probably being spoilt, or something. It'll all blow over. Sigh. Anyway, I am boring on about myself as usual. Sorree.

I think I'll finish watching Bridge then have a nice hot shower and pop off to bed. Sleep soundly, all.

zoejeanne · 16/01/2010 23:01

LadyT I too hate rowing, but I like to think that its a healthy sign (although hard to think that at the time). I used to row with an ex hugely, and us stopping rowing was the first sign it was over - I just didn't care enough to fight my corner/for the relationship/about anything anymore.

Veggie I promise I won't ever mention that chocolate again (or would you like a belated secret santa present of a big box of it?!)

And Jump I forgot to say that DD does the laughing too, I love it. We always say to here 'is it funny?' and laugh along, and she laughs again. Yesterday, someone on the telly said 'funny' and she started laughing at the cue! Fab

Night everyone x

daisydora · 17/01/2010 09:10

Just a quickie, ladyt about the rowing. Its awful isn't it? However, I do agree with ZJ that it is a healthy sign. We had some friends that NEVER rowed. They thought me and DH were very odd (I can argue over anything!). So when they did eventually have a 'row' it lasted a week and then she walked out. They are still together but she is now convinced a good row every now and again helps to clear the air!

Tortoise, that was my girl name too! A family name for us, and quite literary I think too. I love it!

Having a weird day as one of my friends didn't turn up for brunch this morning (very uncharacteristic), isn't answering her phone, and her husband is in Switzerland and hasn't talked to her today. But we have broken into their flat (!) and found her phone there, but not her Oyster card and wallet so hoping that she just forgot her phone and got confused about which restaurant (it is a chain and there are a couple in the same area). Very strange though!

Friend is found! She just forgot her phone and had the wrong restaurant. Duh. So easy to think the worst though.

Hope everyone is having happy weekends!
