Hope this works!

Hello again,
jolly I have to say sorry for just saying hello earlier, I skim read your post and didn't read the bit about your DD being ill :-(, sorry about that.....seems to be lots of bugs going round at the moment.

No, I haven't joined an antenatal thread, partly not enough time, partly like it here, and partly til I came clean I wasn't going to post anyway as I would either have given the game away or had to fanny around with name changing. I do worry on another thread that there might be posters that are annoying, everyone on here is lovely but there are quite a lot of annoyingly opinionated people on the wider mumsnet who I couldn't hack. I don't do arguing on the internet so really couldn't be bothered if there was any of the super opinionated types on there!! But I may pop to the Aug thread and introduce myself....hehe, LadyT I do wonder who it is who you find annoying, I had a look at our list towards the top of the list and apart from lowrib there is only one who I have seen post much elsewhere on mumsnet, can't say I have noticed her being annoying though so may not be her....
trace sorry but that just seems like very odd advice re Lu.....?? I really would take with a pinch of salt, I am sure she is trying to be helpful and suggest solutions, etc, but frankly it sounds like bolleaux of the highest order. Of course you want to make her feel special and loved, but to say she is someones favourite over P really doesn't make sense....surely that is not teaching her the right sort of thing, i.e. that they are both loved equally (by you, grandparents, whoever)? I cannot imagine my grandparents saying that to me when I was little. Anyway I am not an expert, but perhaps she was just trying to come up with a solution for you, and I think you should feel free to ignore without guilt. Great news on the staying at work though!
Oh I wanted to post something on the VBAC stuff, thanks for all who have posted stuff about it!! Will have to be quick though as being pestered to go to bed (I am the pg one, but DH is a lightweight) veggie my labour didn't get very far last time, problems with DS's heart rate meant they gave me a CS pretty quickly. So more likely to be like a first birth than an easier second one, damn. I am not traumatised by it, but to be honest the CS was so easy that I am tempted to just go with that again. My midwife is very nice and assumed I would want a natural birth as I wanted a home birth last time. She also has 2 children with the same gap as mine will be and had c/s followed by VBAC, so she thinks I should go for VBAC. But she is a midwife, I imagine she sort of felt she should do the natural birth thing!! I don't really have that desire particularly though! Anyway, she said the hospital would advise me down the VBAC route but I haven't spoken to them yet so I don't know if that is true. I imagine they have pressure to keep down there c/s rates, but I am not trying a VBAC just to keep their rates down . We shall see.

Anyway I really must go to bed now, I think I had more to say but will have to wait!!

Oh urbane I hope your DS has improved, sorry sounds like you are having a really shit time at the moment, really hope it gets better soon, and that you get some rest too.

LadyThompson · 03/02/2010 23:43

Summer, if there is one word I am keen on, it's "bolleaux". I am just being a complete cow re: erstwhile member of our thread and I usually like everyone and am not prone to irrational dislikes of people, far from it, but some posts by this person at the very top of the list annoy me as I just find her a bit condescending/grand. As for cs I felt crap for a few days but then some people who give birth naturally do as well. I'd have another in a heartbeat (in fact, I am!)

Loving the stats, ZJ! I don't care for the new confused face much either. Won't be using that or the jammy dodger one. The jammy dodger one makes me think MNHQ was pleased with itself over the press coverage re: Biscuitgate and actually I thought it was embarrassing and made everyone sound like a bunch of divs.

Trace, I am SO pleased that you are still carrying on at work (hurrah) but was dismayed to hear what had been said about the parenting of L. Even supposing L is feeling left out, let's face it, it must be one of the most common occurrences in family life and you should not be made to feel guilty about it unless you are overlooking L - and it really does not sound like you are. You always come across as such a caring mother. I think what Syb says is correct - someone else saying L is their favourite seems like wronghanded advice to me and could backfire. I am sure you are pigsick of advice so I will shut up now and just say I hope things continue to improve.

Katie, glad Christmas worked out ok and hoping for a proper diagnosis soon. By strange coincidence, my own Dad is just back from India and I heard tonight that he had got over 100 mosquito bites and has been on steroids as he reacted badly to them. I do hope he is ok as he is in remission from cancer and doesn't enjoy the greatest health. I am about to send him a case of cheerfulness, which is one of the few things guaranteed to really cheer him up...

spotofcheerfulness · 04/02/2010 08:59

Morning, just popping in to add my two pence worth on the gender sweepstake.

Beans - girl
Rubena - boy
LadyT - girl
Summer - boy

Been up since 4.45 this morning (yawn), beating yesterday's 5.30 rise into a cocked hat. The problem is that since T's had his tummy bug he poos himself awake at s\crazy o'clock in the morning, selltes for maybe 20 mins then does another enormous poo. Then nothing in the day. His belly is so hard and distended by the end of the day he's crying in pain with the trapped wind. Has anyone ever had anything like this and, if so, can they make any suggestions?

Rubena · 04/02/2010 10:01

Hello Spot - all I can suggest is apricots - I have put the canned breakfast apricots or stewed apricots pureed and mixed into cereal and even dinner - not for that reason however it did have the effect of rapidly moving things along!

Speaking of our little group and those who have disappeared - Our fellow Aussie Penny99 - she didn't post after the baby was born - Beans I'm sure you said you kept in touch - why did she vanish? And also, Turnip posts all over but never here anymore - did we offend Turnip??

Aubergines · 04/02/2010 10:01

Quick post from the train on my way to a meeting up North. Only my second ever trip north of Birmingham. How bad is that??? I am meant to be making polite conversation with those I am accompanying to the meeting but they are too busy making fart jokes (seriously - these are people elected to run our country and so far we have spoken mainly of flatulence and impotence - nice).

LadyT ? I am intrigued as to who you are referring to. There are two people in the top quarter of our list who I know are regular posters on the wider boards but not on our thread. One I have seen being rather rude on name threads and the other I have seen being quite strident about breast/bottle. I bet its one of them.

Trace ? I am so glad that you are able to keep working but like the others I am aghast at your psychiatrist?s parenting advice. It goes against most advice I have ever heard for dealing with sibling jealousy. I also wonder how she is qualified to comment. She is not a social worker or a psychologist; psychiatrists are trained in the biology of the brain not interpersonal relationships. I would trust your instincts and keep being the lovely mum that you are. Can I also say that you are NOT Cruella for letting P cry as part of a sleep training programme. I meant I would be Cruella to let a baby cry who normally sleeps through and only occasionally wakes, in that kind of pattern it is likely something is genuinely wrong when the baby wakes, where as in your situation you are breaking a habit. As you know I am a fan of sleep training and am really pleased that P?s wakes are reducing.

Katie ? so pleased you are getting somewhere with your Dad?s diagnosis.

EffiePerine · 04/02/2010 10:14

I find I need to do a massive catch-up, so will try writing this in Word and then pasting in, so apologies in advance for any stray characters! We have had a dreadful couple of nights, so have been very interested in the sleeping and settling conversations. More on that later.

Urbane os sorry to hear about DS and your frightening trip to the hospital. Children?s wards are odd places, I found the staff lovely and that was heartening, but all the ill babies as well as your own worries and memories . Hope DS is recovering fast and that you get a rest as well. This cycle of illness has been going on so long that you must be exhausted.

Spot glad DS is settling in at nursery but sorry he is ill as well ? isn?t it an awful time of the year for sick babies? Roll on spring, is all I say. Exciting news on the book. Re: TTC, it took us a while to conceive DS1 (not ages, but it seemed a long time) but DS2 was much quicker. Speaking of TTC, how is your sister getting on with her new baby?

Sybs: happy belated 80th to your father, hope you had a nice day.

WG: sleep ? what was that again? If I find a magic formula I will let you know, as long as you do likewise!

Katie: lovely to hear from you, sounds like you?re doing a great job battling the doctors!

Beans: we have a similar situation re: settling DS2, DH manages it much better than me. I think it?s a milk thing. I love Prudence, but am a sucker for Victorian names (Verity is my favourite, DH wouldn?t countenance it, we compromised on Harriet for a girl).

LadyT: fingers crossed on the book. I chuckled at the driving lessons as well! DH is planned to start learning soon (we are both non-drivers) so we can swap tribulations. I have reams of poncetastic name suggestions. I do love the Greek names ? I think Daphne and Penelope are beautiful names, though they have more recent connotations which may be problematic. Or you could go all pre-war and have Echo or Ego or Ivo (could you get away with Echo? Such a lovely name).

Veggie: I loved your story of the DSs bopping away to Dutch cartoons.

Aub: I think Bede is a great name too

In fact if we are talking names I give all you pg ladies some of the ones on my list (most had DH in snorts of laughter) in the hope that someone will take them up! Gilbert, Gideon, Gustave, Aubrey, Jane, Penelope, Heloise, Frances.

Trace good news that you?re still at work, but I?m joining in the chorus of ?wtf?? about the advice re: Lucy. I?m sure she knows she is loved and she isn?t being pushed to one side. I would say, though, that I am a big fan of our DCs developing relationships with other adults, be they relations or friends. Not only do they get the benefit but it takes the pressure off you a tiny bit. Could that be what the CPN was getting at? Is L close to her godparents, for e.g.?

Kayz: sorry illness has struck your household once more as well. Boo to all childhood illnesses, snow, rain, cold weather and anyone being less than amazing to us.

Daisy hope all is well ? thinking of you

A mini-rant from me: I feel like I have had NO sleep for the past couple of nights. DS2 is getting very difficult to settle, plus DH and I had one of those big relationship talks the night before last (hate them, prefer talking about things that either don?t matter or that I can fix right way). And then DS2 had his 13 mo jabs yesterday, so that has made things even worse. I can?t seem to settle him at all other than feeding him, but that isn?t even a short-term solution as he ends up feeding and dozing for hours at a time (the moment I unlatch him he wakes up and yells again) so I don?t get any sleep. Or I try cuddling/rocking/shh patting which makes him incredibly angry. DH is better at settling him ? as soon as he picks him up DS2 quietens down, as long as I?m not in the room ? but then he can?t settle him back in his cot without the waking/shouting thing happening again, so he ends up in bed with us and me curled up in a corner pretending not to be there. Ugh. No-one is getting much sleep (DS1 obv being disturbed as well) and we are all ratty. So ZJ: no advice, but again let me know if you light on a magic remedy!

Rant over ? will see if I can paste this and then get on with some stuff (head too woolly to concentrate on much!)

EffiePerine · 04/02/2010 10:17

Oh and I chwekced the list and I think I know who LadyT means (nosy). Doesn't bother me but I can see that would be a mega personality clash

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 10:18

LadyT There is someone on our list who posts all over MN and she really really bugs me! I am on a weight loss thread with her(not that I remember to post there very often oops) and sometimes I want to yell at the computer screen.

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 10:32

DH has just rung a company that does the same sort of work that he has done before. They are sending him an application form.

Fingers crossed that he gets the job.

Rubena · 04/02/2010 10:37

Can someone post the list again? The annoying person I thought you were talking about I thought had recently been mentioned on here Lady? Otehr than that - the one Kayz you are talking about I didn't think was annoying, however I find anyone slightly annoying if they post all over but never pop in to say hi anymore. It's just rude really - at least they should explain that they would rather spend their time on other threads and we are way down the list!!!
rant over...
Aubi that's quite funny

Rubena · 04/02/2010 10:38

fingers crossed Kayz.....

Rubena · 04/02/2010 10:44

In fact no - rant NOT over!!! Just thinking about it has really wound me up!! Why can't we just use the Facebook private group?

I might turn into a lurker for a bit....

The person I find annoying is near the bottom of the list.

Rubena · 04/02/2010 10:53

Oh yes, that Effie!

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 10:55

However did you guess???

Rubena · 04/02/2010 11:04

nope - there's a few possibilities - I can't choose

Rubena · 04/02/2010 11:05

oh, Kayz, I thought your post read like this "However....... did you guess?" Hence my reply

Rubena · 04/02/2010 11:06
  • better start lurking
Kayzr · 04/02/2010 11:07

Don't you dare start lurking. Then you'll be one of those people on our list that doesn't talk to us.

Beans33 · 04/02/2010 11:09

Hi All

Just a quickie as I actually have a little something to do at work.. How are you all doing? It's been busy busy on here!

Sybil - I'd love a cake if you want to make me one - hee hee!

DD took her first few wobbly steps yesterday - but very badly! I just let go of her a few steps away and she sort of staggered towards me and then fell onto my legs and arms. V sweet. I did a few times and on the last time, someone said something to me, so I glanced away and she fell and doinked her head on the radiator. Massive bruise and tears. Oops. Felt terrible! Tried again this morning and she just sat down. Clearly she is never going to walk now - I have put her off for life!

The newbie is really active now and my tummy went into a really strange shape this morning - v hard and pointy. Quite exciting! Tried to make DH feel my hard tummy last night and he just said he thinks it's really jelly-like. How rude! That's my fat!!!

I don't know who the annoying poster is! Can anyone just say it outright??! Hee hee - me, stirring??!

Anyway, must go. Am thinking about asking for redundancy as there is clearly no role for me here. But that's another story.

katie3677 · 04/02/2010 11:39

LadyT Spill..........please, I haven't got the energy to check the lists and names for posts, plus so many people have changed their names that I can't keep up! Do it in code, go on, go on....

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 11:51

I reckon it is the baby name one.

Beans33 · 04/02/2010 12:05

PS I did keep in touch with Penny99 for a bit as she lives quite near me and all was well with her. But we've drifted apart really now unfortunately. But her little boy was gorgeous!!
x

Rubena · 04/02/2010 12:05

huh?
Agreed Beans
I reckon its either lowrib, disenchanted, pixsix or theyoungvisiter... there.

Rubena · 04/02/2010 12:06

Beans, did she ever say why she abandoned us? (Penny)
