Morning

Auld I can't imagine Provence with snow - whenever I've been there it's always been high summer! We are due more snow here in Bristol tonight and tomorrow, nothing has melted yet so our road is still like a skating rink.

On the plus side, our car is finally fixed, hooray!

Am busy loading up an iPod with books and photos for mum - going in to see her this afternoon. Finally got hold of my dad, he was ok although understandably a bit shocked. Mum is definitely the lynch pin of this oddly disparate family, so it's a bit of a shock to think of her not being a steady presence.

Orbit climbed the stairs twice yesterday (under close supervision) but now thinks this is the best game ever and wants to do it all day. Think we need another stair gate at the bottom. He also has a streaming cold, poor lamb.

Guimauve · 09/01/2010 10:04

Plenty of snow here! I've just been to the shop on a milk and bread run, and had a lovely time traipsing through the untrodden stuff!

TT, hope your Mum is feeling okay today. Is she staying in hosp until the op on Weds? Very impressed by Orbit climbing stairs, but also as H is still just sitting and very occasionally rolling once, if he can be bothered. Oh, and he likes standing, but has to be hung on to for balance.

How are the boys doing this morning Auld?

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 09/01/2010 10:20

TT, I'll try and take photos and post them on my profile later. It is quite something!

Doc says: A is fine, on the mend. Has given us a prescription for respiratory physio sessions just in case he starts "whistling" (I think that means wheezing). V French.

DS1 has a throat infection. So I guess I was right about the sickness not being a tummy bug but being linked to congestion or to the fever.
If it gets worse, he's to take antibiotics. And the doc gave him some "magic drops" to stop the nightmares, which DS1 is v happy about. I suspect they're homeopathic drops, haven't seen them or spoken to DH about them. They are getting ready to go sledging! Haven't worked out how DH plans to take both boys, but am under orders to work so not allowed to interfere.

Boff, I fear you are right. Hope you can get to your conference, though.

bebemoohatessnot · 09/01/2010 14:44

Good both your boys are on the mend and hopefully the magic drops work wonders. Hope they have fun sledding.
Ipod full of books and photos is a great idea Turtle I find giving people gifts like that to while away time waiting for the next doctor helps keep up moral Good thinking to do it digital; so many more choices.
Gui I'm jealous of you walking in fresh snow. I hope we manage to get out before the kids in the neighborhood tomorrow so I can have a go at a snow angel.

ZuluWarrior · 09/01/2010 15:20

No way will I catch up propertly but just wanted to say:

WFH sorry to hear about your mum. Hopefully the surgery will make her feel a bit better.

Bebe at your DH. Some major retraining required I reckon.

AA how was sledging?

Nutty how's your brother doing?

Will do better later

bebemoohatessnot · 09/01/2010 15:24

Tried the Metanium and at least she didn't scream when I put it on...it has peculiar smell reminds me of childhood somehow ? Maybe there's something similar in the States that mom used.

Forgot to use the cotton this last time, but will try that next time too.

Has anyone else noticed how toddler-like their lo's are getting? Moo was playing today and I just thought 'wow; she's getting so grown up already!'

AuldAlliance · 09/01/2010 19:02

Sledging did not happen. By the time everyone had got organised after the dr's visit, it was lunchtime, then DH wanted a nap and when he awoke the snow was melting!

ZuluWarrior · 09/01/2010 19:08

DH wanted a nap?! Aren't those boys lucky. Can you imagine the look of horror if we announced we fancied a siesta? Or maybe your DH is far more enlightened...

dawntigga · 09/01/2010 19:24

Erm, mine isn't crawling yet so no toddler like behaivour although he's starting to look a lot less like a baby, baby.

ToTiredToTypeTiggaxx

bebemoohatessnot · 10/01/2010 15:49

It's the way Moo looks at things which makes me think she's growing up. So thoughtful and attentive.

Bicnod · 11/01/2010 08:42

Quiet on here... where is everyone?

HELLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO????

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 08:49

CONTEST:
So who can beat last night's 'sleep'? We can all vote for the winner and I'll send them a bar of chocolate.

Meg went down at 8:45 for the evening. Slept fitfully until 11 when she woke up screaming. Rocked her to sleep after giving her calpol. Up again at 12. Screamed on and off (off being just plain cried) until 5:30 (yes 5.5 hrs) Then up at 7:37 to start her day...How is that even possible? So I got about 2.75 hours of sleep.
Beat that!

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 08:53

quiet I most certainly agree

snow does make things eerily quiet...

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 09:12

Going to pretend you're all sleeping blissfully in warm cosy beds like sleeping beauties with angelic babies beside you

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 09:14

Or you all have gone out for some lovely coffee and doughnuts together without me sigh

Bicnod · 11/01/2010 09:17

Oh bebe that's rubbish teeth? You definitely win although I too had another crapola night with O - can prop eyes with matchsticks in solidarity.

I'm meeting potential childminders this week. Makes me feel sick even thinking about leaving him

And some smiles:

Guimauve · 11/01/2010 09:31

Well hellooooooo! I had decided that everyone had emigrated to a place without computers and was planning my defection to another thread!

You guys win chocolate for the poor sleeping, we had a pretty good night last night. Way to find a silver lining btw Bebe - the worse the sleeping, the more chocolate you get!

Bicnod - so with you on feeling sick about leaving him The longest I've been without him (and it is that way round, really, isn't it?) is 3 hours, and that's when I've been having a lie-in and he's been downstairs with DH. I am just so very angry at the world that we're now put in a position where women are finally getting equality, so we can get good jobs with good salaries, resulting in mortgages based on those salaries, and then when you realise that actually, thank you very much, you'd like to choose not to work for a while, you can't because now Santander own your soul

Not sure that makes any sense. Hey ho.

So, good weekend, all? Snow?

OP posts:
bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 09:40

Bicnod Poor you. I can imagine how you must feel. Leaving Moo now, just as she's getting interesting, would be very very tough.

Next baby I'm going to get a wet nurse in to feed it for 3months (and I'll work) then I'll take over (and work only part time) until 9 months then I'll quit work and be a full time mom again

our lack of sleep I think is teething. But I really don't know as Moo has a lovely habit of clamping her moth shut just when you show interest. We got teeth 7 and 8 properly through over Christmas/New Year. But there's been a bump on the right lower (for a molar I believe) for ages...It's much more pronounced now than it was, but no sign of an actual tooth.
We also have a cold or something so there's coughing and snuffling and snot to hinder our breathing, which I know is not helping anything.

The real crazy thing is during the day she's touchy, and I need to keep up with calpol, but it's not anything near as bad as the nights. I just don't get it really.

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 09:46

Nationwide own our souls...though they wouldn't on as much of them if DH would stop procrastinating.

TwilightTurtle · 11/01/2010 09:48

Morning! bebesorry to hear about your rough night - in my experience babies can be fine during the day with teething, I think because they're distracted by playing and exploring, and then scream blue murder at night. Also apparently lying down makes teeth hurt more, plus they dribble a lot and when they're lying down it runs down their throat and makes them cough.

Had busy weekend visiting Mum and sorting out lots of things to do with her house and things for hospital - I'm going to start a separate thread about Mum as I don't want to clog up this one too much. I left Orbit and DS1 with DP last night just before tea time so I could visit Mum (inconvenient visiting hours) and got back to find both boys in bed, house tidy, dinner cooked, glass of wine poured. I told him he'd make someone a lovely wife one day Orbit had a bottle of formula and guzzled it down, little traitor.

Must get flexible working application in this week - it's my number one priority.

mrsgboring · 11/01/2010 09:53

Morning

It is quiet and I still can't catch up. Been preoccupied with snow (clearing and playing out in). We had lots here.

Today I'm venturing out in the car for the first time since it snowed. Am v. scared but DS1 needs his swimming lesson (and I need not to be shut in with him complaining that he can't find the stapler. He has a stapler, you understand. Two in fact, but they make the wrong size of staple)

Bebe you win the the chocolate for sure. Hugs and sympathies to all those returning to work soon. Gui I am at a 3 hour lie in!

I am a bit as Edmund's top teeth look a bit dodgy. They have white spots on them, and I fear he has improperly formed dental enamel, and they'll therefore look awful, go rotten and fall out and I'll have to go out with a sign on my neck saying "I'm not that bad a mother honest"

NotCatastrophisingAtAllMrsG

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 10:14

Turtle can I borrow your DP?

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 10:18

And I just want to inform you all, encase any of you were having troubled sleep because of it, paint chips are passing through my daughter. Makes for very interesting poo. Need to figure something out for that when I get a moment today.

ZuluWarrior · 11/01/2010 10:18

Morning all.

Bebe, I think I may have had a similar night to you but after I checked for reversible causes of screaming (too hot/too cold/full nappy) and administered some calpol I put in earplugs and slept a bit. . Am I the only terrible mother on this thread?

Sympathies for those thinking about work. It is horrible at first. But it does get easier, I promise. I cried non-stop for the first week. But amazingly they do survive when you're not there, and I think it's good for them socially. But I know it feels like having your heart torn out at first .

TT well done for your DP. He sounds wonderful. Mine is brilliant at looking after the baby but nothing else gets done. Hope your Mum's OK.

Right. AF is now in its fourth week and is getting worse again with period pains. Should I be worried yet or just persevere? I'm not anaemic and it's still just like a worse end of normal period.

bebemoohatessnot · 11/01/2010 10:19

good luck with the driving MrsG -drive as smoothly as possible and you'll be perfectly fine
