Happy birthday Henry!

simpson · 21/01/2010 09:50

Thearcanemummy - sorry I did LOL at the duck cake being decapitated

Happy Birthday Henry!!

Had some good news yesterday eve.

J has twigged how to read

Before he was sounding out the words ie C A T then saying something totally different like book

But it all came together for him last night and now he wants to read everything in sight

He even wanted to read his list of words from school to M to show her how good he was, but she had zero interest much to his disgust

AngeChica · 21/01/2010 09:54

Sorry for some reason it won't let me post on FB but I was trying to write that I hope the nexy year holds only the everyday fun and laughter for you all, in the best possible way IYSWIM.

Welcome thearcanemummy.

That's pretty smart of your DS Simpson, he's only 4 isn't he?

AngeChica · 21/01/2010 09:56

PS have made appointment sorry if TMI but goodbye horrible, horrible IUD!

willsurvivethis · 21/01/2010 10:06

Happy birthday Henry!!

Simpson tell J I am very very proud of him!!

Every cloud has a silver lining - Nathan was crying at 2am but he didn't just say dadadadada he said mumumumumum as well - waited a long time for that!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 21/01/2010 10:24

Yay Ange for IUD out, had mine out in Feb, now just waiting for something to happen.

Welcome Arcane

Simps - congrats to J. It is so nice when they feel pride in something they have learnt. S is 4 next month and has an obsession with puzzles and everytime he can do it (and they are bloody hard in my opinion) he hgets so excited and shows everyone and says "I'm learning".

Happy Bday Henry.

Lilyloo · 21/01/2010 10:36

happy birthday Henry

Simps yeah for J it is weird how it just clicks all of a sudden. L still has no idea she is still looking at pics to guess what the words are.

M ready for bed again going through an early start week this week (yawn)!

Got friend and her son coming round in a while so trying to clear away some of these toys.
Have just put a bag full out for the British Heart Foundation.

LaT sorry to hear about your friend but great news on the bf , i would have really liked to do that!

Iwill (still getting use to that) so pleased N can say your name now wonder if you may soon tire of hearing that though

Weclome Arcane we had Ppeppa cake here , actually watching Peppa now

Gingeme yeah to George sleeping in his own bed. Me and dp are both dieting , he is doing ww i am doing sw. We haven't joined though can't afford it. He has lost 8lb and i have lost 5lb in 2.5 week

Mixedm any more decisions on party ?

Ange i think i will have the same prob leaving M at pre school when she starts. She only just ok with going to toddler group where i stay!

Have good day all!!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 21/01/2010 10:39

Hi Lily

She text me to say go ahead with soft play so am just getting on with it before she changes her mind. DH now saying we should make our own food though as he thinks fish fingers and chips is rubbish. Booking on Saturday.

Just ordering a pack of 20 Ben 10 invites for Ds and Spiderman ones for her LO and we are going to send out 12 each at nursery and then the remainder for any outside people.

JustKeepSwimming · 21/01/2010 10:48

Mixedm - glad it's working out about the party. fish fingers & chips is ok for party food though, at least most kids will eat it - i go for low effort/stress options if i can, lol!

Ange - yey for IUD coming out

Arcane - welcome

LaT - for your friend & well done to you on bf, i always meant to do that but never got round to it.

H not feeling too great today; him, T & me coming down with colds & coughs (hope that's all it is), and H suffers terribly with colds, have already given him some Ventalin and he's currently slumped on DH watching ITNG.
Hoping he makes it to lunchtime for cake, though T i'm sure will happily carry on without him

simpson · 21/01/2010 13:53

if anyone is interested v tech pocket smile games consoles are on sale on tescos direct down to £15!!!

LaTrucha · 21/01/2010 14:21

Hello all,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HENRY! Enjoy your cake and ITNG.

Welcome Arcanemummy. My DD was 2 on Jan 1st and we're expecting our second child on June 30th.

Madmouse - will have to have pictures of the train, I think.

Mixedmama- seems to be sorting itself out. So, when DH says you'll bring your own food, does that mean he's cooking it?

Lilyloo - well done on dieting. I am quite enjoying not having to suck my tummy in!

See, Gingeme - he just needed telling

Well, of the day is Sabela and I reading our Thomas Really Useful Words book (great book BTW). I noticed a badger in a picture that I hadn't noticed before so I pointed it out saying, 'Ooo who's he? I haven't seen him before' etc, when Sabela replies, 'Badger WHO did she learn that word from? I have no clue. It could be DH or a friend but as far as I know niether of them has touched the book for weeks, so she much have a good memory.

I think speech is finally coming!

Am now feeling totally paranoid about 20 week scan. Really, I still think everything is fine but am now worrried I've been overly confident.

gingeme · 21/01/2010 15:35

HAPPY BIRTHDAY H enjoy your cake little man !
Yes you were right LaT Good luck with the scan and dont feel guilty these things happen.
Lillyloo I couldnt do it wothout the incentive of going to group each week. I just havent got the wil power Trouble is Im trying to stick to it by the book and DH is sort of doing it and I bet he loses quicker than I do . He did last time we went about 3 years ago.
Simpson its great isnt it?
Well I had to pick David up from school at lunch time today. He was complaining of tummy ache but turned out to be a tight chest. I gave him his inhaler, which he hasnt had to use since August, and he was right as rain almost immediately . I shall keep an eye on him and see if he needs an inhaler to be left at school.
George had another good morning at pre school today. He was a bit tearful yesterday by all accounts. Hes zonked in bed now. His own bed

mixedmamameansbusiness · 21/01/2010 16:11

Brilliant about Sabela... it is amazing the way they pick things up.

My favourite with E is that he goes up to S and puts his arm around him and he says "alright abi" (big brother) is a questioning way, like you alright mate, cracks me up every time.

Doubt DH means he will be cooking, but am wondering if it would cost less than £3.50 per child if we made sandwiches and bits and pieces, between us I am sure we could rustle something up.

willsurvivethis · 21/01/2010 20:14

new words here too - new in since yesterday yumyum while eating (can you tell it's a growth spurt ) - and tonight after several attempts and careful copying of our corrections 'yogurt' - the funny thing is it is like he knows he's saying a real word because he looks at us first with a special face. Half the time we go mental because we know he's using 'real' words we just don't get them .

AngeChica · 21/01/2010 21:11

WST I think A is having a growth spurt as well. He had 2 whole bananas, a bowl of cereal and 3 pieces of toast for brekkie !

Yes and after all my moaning a couple of new words, after 2 or 3 months with no new words at all: dog, car, bus ....

fillybuster · 22/01/2010 10:03

Happy belated birthday Henry! Hope you got to enjoy your cake despite the sniffles....

Gingeme - very impressed at you in 'firm mummy' mode ...even more impressed by the WW thing - is that 2 stone each or between you though?!

LaT - wow @ Sabela! Its amazing how much they retain at this age Your course sounds really interesting and hurrah for the bf training as well - glad there's lots of good things going on despite the sad news from your friend.

MixedM - glad thats got sorted...and yes, sandwiches are much cheaper and dead easy - dh and I always get a bit of a production line going and can create stacks of tuna/cream cheese/jam in no time at all!

Ange - at A's breakfast, although my ds went through a similar stage at this age and even now can eat an incredible amount of breakfast given the chance (we try to hold him back a bit so he'll still eat lunch and dinner!!) Hurrah for words

Iwillsurvice - its amazing how something like the first proper 'maama' will make you forgive a 2am wake-up isn't it? Lovely!!

Simpson - that's great on the reading front, good for your ds Mine has also 'got' it now, and is really enjoying reading 'proper' stories that he brings home from school for homework...

Arcane - welcome! I haven't worked out what to do about dd's birthday cake for next Sunday...will give it some thought tonight, but will try not to get too overenthusiastic this time (I made a full Thomas for ds's 3rd and a pirate ship for his 4th but I just don't think dd is going to care that much what it looks like as long as it is very chocolatey...!!)

DH has come down with man-flu and is lying in bed groaning. I've had (another) bug all week and am only finally feeling a bit more human today....can't wait for the weather to improve and for all the viruses to pass!

simpson · 22/01/2010 11:09

willsurvivethis - very excited about nathan's new words!!

Filly - I remember the Thomas cake

You guys put me to shame Have never made a birthday cake in my life!!

Gingeme - how is George when you leave him at playgroup now?? Have booked Molly to start a week on Monday for 2 mornings a week...

LaT - glad Sabela liked the creche M goes to a creche every Friday afternoon while I do keep fit class and for a good few months she used to go totally hysterical in buggy when she saw building half way down the road

She is slightly better now but there are always tears

TBH am dreading leaving her at playgroup

I think we have that Thomas book too, it was J's

Ange - think M having growth spurt too. She always eats a lot but now its silly the amount she is eating "I hungry" seems to be her new catch phrase

Lilyloo - J not reading everything yet but has twigged how to sound out the words by each letter iyswim.

I have to brave it and tell his teacher that we have lost the library book though

gingeme · 22/01/2010 13:04

Afternoon ladies
Simpson George is just fine with his pre school. We were told he realy enjoyed sticking yesterday and they are impressed how well he sits in snack time Im sure M will be fine. Oh and I have never made a birthday cake either
Filly I want to lose 2 stone and so does DH.
Ange I only wish George would eat that amount. Hes been realy off his breakfast lately but will happily walk around chomping on an apple all morning usualy followed by a banana.
My big boys are here this weekend. We are going to a childrens party tomm afternoon so they can run around after the lo's while I have a chat
Not sure what well do Sunday as DH has a day off.

LaTrucha · 22/01/2010 14:45

Tired, tired, tired today. Sabela had her first night terrors last night. Essentially, she got freaked out by having one of the toys from the end of her cot trapped under her grobag, but I didn't realise what was happening as DH did the first settle and it all went on for too long before she came and slept (badly) in my bed. yawn.

I also woke up with a cold. Boo hiss.

Definitely not going to do my Friday ironing session. If I believed all the people I know, I would think I was the only person who ever ironed. Fortunately for me, I've seen their clothes and I don't believe them. I am not a lone freak!

Forst day at bf training tomorrow. I have to find something to keep Sabela entertained while I do it - she has to come with me and there is no creche. From 10am to 4pm! Ideas please! (and no, I don't have a portable TV for ceebeebies!)

fillybuster · 22/01/2010 15:05

Nicky - sorry been meaning to reply and kept forgetting...was wondering whether we could delay the London meetup by a week please (if everyone else doesn't mind?). 17th is half term, and I've agreed to work that day so that I can take the kids away for a long weekend Thurs-Mon, ifwim. Sorry! If it was at all possible to do 24th instead, that would be really great [pleading face emoticon]

LaT - that's a long time to keep Sabela amused! Is there anyone you know who might want to take her out for the day, or half of it? Otherwise lots of different small activity books, stickers (post-notes last for ages!), reading books she can look at...um..not sure Tamara could amuse herself 10-4....good luck!!

Gingeme - enjoy having all your boys together this weekend

LaTrucha · 22/01/2010 15:35

I'm getting a bit about it. It's a 45 minute drive away and ~I'm getting a lift. There will be at least one other toddler there, and she will be able to toddle. I guess I can always take her out for a walk if needs be. Double

simpson · 22/01/2010 18:49

Well have been doing keep fit class on a friday for at least 10mths now and M goes to the creche.

Today is the first time there were no tears at all

The last couple of months there have been tears only for a few moments when I left her but never none before iyswim

LaT - good luck tomorrow Would take lots of snacky type food too ie bread sticks/rice cakes etc

JustKeepSwimming · 23/01/2010 20:27

Evening all

One Month Post Surgery

Simps - yey for J and his reading, hope he really takes off now. I really want bookworms for kids, we are all in my family and could always be found away in a corner with a book. Trips to bookshops took forever as we all started reading in the shop

Sabela & Nathan & Alek - way to go with words!!!

LaT - sorry when is your scan? It's normal to be more confident second time round anyway. For a start you don't have the luxury of all that time to worry!
Hope today has gone ok??

G - hope the weight loss is going well with you both, but you more, lol!
And hope weekend is going well with all the boys

Filly - i think i can do either so don't mind changing. (are they Wed? )

Well, H got a chest infection on his birthday, got worse overnight and early morning, worried us ever so slightly, but he's fine again now.
Every cold seems to end up in a chest infection, while T & I shrug them off, he ends up on ABs and inhalers.

But he carried on doing new things throughout; enjoying his bath again, looking at a book, pressing my nose to make me say beep, playing peekaboo (even to PIL on Skype) and today went for a walk outside holding my hand.

The feeling of him walking along hand in mine, happy to looking at the world.
Priceless.

Wanted to go into the road though, those moving metal things looked awfully interesting....
