Oh my GOD! Why are children such idiots sometimes? M was removing tree decorations and I wasn't bothered as all the ones with bits of glass on them were up high..... or so I thought! We have some that are covered in small mirror pieces, like disco balls and ds must have put one down on a low branch. M had chewed off four pieces of glass and they were in her mouth! I got them out but bloody hell! What if she had swallowed them?! The disco balls are now back in the box......

My mind has been opened by this thread
by Riven's posts. I had not really thought of it in this way.
I know this comment doesn't belong in a post natal thread, but this is where I feel comfortable I didn't dare post on that thread!! People can be really vicious and I'm far too sensitive.

oh goodness 50ft! Glad she is ok and you got them out!

Q has an interesting fascination with AA batteries lately. he tried to suck on one the other day but stopped immediately when we said "no". He just loves to carry them around.

Ronshar - yes dh had his jab and had no ill-effects whatsoever. It was just before I had my horrendous sinus problems and I was really worried he'd be ill as well, but nothing. I think secretly he was a little disappointed to have no 'manflu' symptoms to complain about.

So he's away at the moment and I decided last night to tidy our utility room as it hasn't been properly sorted since we moved in 3 years ago. I was up till midnight and then the dcs were up for a couple of hours and woke at 6 so I only got 4 hrs sleep. Stupid, stupid me.... Totally self inflicted tiredness and not even for something fun. Still, the utility room looks tidy .

Ds has broken our Xmas tree lights (but as they were ones we found in the loft of an old house I can't really complain). Downside is that not many places have much in stock now, I could have got musical, multicoloured, flashing ones from B&Q but you have to draw the line somewhere . The good news is that the playhouse we are buying for the dcs for Xmas is arriving tomorrow!!!! I'm really excited! A present that won't take up space in our house - woohoo.... We have barely any garden toys and it is a big present so we decided a joint gift was the way to go.

Myjob - get antibiotics now! They really made a difference to my sinuses, though it took almost the whole course for me to notice the effect. Worth it though, especially to be feeling human by Xmas....

Pistachio - I have sympathy with you on the clingy ds. If I so much as leave the room mine howls and gets hysterical . Dd isn't stroppy, just totally manic. She doesn't sit still for even 1 minute, it exhausts me! Gets it from her father apparently....

Sorry to hear about your rubbish monday, pistachio

We don't leave batteries lying around either. he managed to open the back of his musical phonics drum and take them out. Clever boy!

Yay for tidying the utility room Ekka - that made me feel warm and fuzzy

Q was up from 2-4am last night playing in his cot. Kept me up as well as he's right next to me. Then screamed for 20 min and slept 4.20-5.15. Then woke in a brilliant mood and he's having a fabulous day with my friend, too!

meant to add that I am not as chipper and happy as DS, though. It helps that he gets to take a nap whenever he wants to!

Ekka your DD is soooooo sweet. I'll take her off your hands

I cannot WAIT until Q reaches 2. I am absolutely LOVING this age, too. He's so much fun! I can't wait until he can talk, too!

Pistachio - I have the clinginess too with M. I'm not allowed out of her sight or she screams the house down. She's not so bad when my mum's around but when it's just DH, ds, M & I, she gets very grumpy when I leave the room. I am very lucky that ds is older, but on the other hand it means he is very good at torturing his little sister.

Star - I am loving this age too. It's great isn't it? DS was at nursery full time at this age so I am having great fun playing with M.

M has started to role play with her toys! I can't believe it. She was copying me at first but she took two Happyland figures, got one to say hello to the other, then put their faces together & made a kiss noise then dropped one and said "uh oh"!

I'm considering sending Q to a montessori nursery when he turns 2 in october. They won't take him in September because he won't be two yet. I'm going to visit the school in January. I really like the idea of montessori for early years. It's not expensive either. I would have to bring Q with me to my school, though and find a reliable babysitter to drive him there at 8.15/830ish, though - but that I think that could be easily achieved... the day there ends at 3.15pm so that's perfect for my day, too! Then he could join me at my school when he is 3

Cute about M role playing, 50ft!
Q still just loves any cleaning equipment most and god help anyone who dare try to take his mop, dustpan, broom...etc.

Gosh, I can't keep up with you all today!

Had a much better night thankfully. Heard ds briefly once in the night, but he resettled quickly so slept through from 7:20 or so until 7:30 this morning . Once dd went to bed properly she also slept through til 7:15. Still snotty, but not feeling as bad after a good kip. And of course buoyed by the right person winning X-Factor .

Taken the dc to the toddler gym this morning (have booked dd's birthday party there now too), then dropped dd at school for the afternoon, and ds is napping in the car pre-lunch for a change.

We bought a whole load of new shatterproof baubles for our tree last week, and then realised when we put it up at the weekend that we bought a load of new ones 2 years ago too (didn't have a tree last year), so we now have masses of them! Still, ds likes pulling them off, so at least with lots we can spare a few for him!

Ooh - ds awake, so have to go!

I am such a horrible mummy that I do not react well to the whole clingy business. My DC have learnt from a young age that the best way to my heart is through cuddles and kisses. Not screaming and shouting. So W is more than capable of spending the whole day just trailing round the house after me. That way he doesnt have to worry about being left behind
I have to complain a little bit about W. He has started a really annoying habit of squeaking really loudly, like a guinea pig, when he wants something. This is always at its loudest when I am eating something and it doesnt stop until he has had a bit of everything off my plate.
No one else. Just me. I am rubbish at sharing my food. Never mind. He is sleeping all night so he can do whatever he wants.

Ekka. Thats good about DH. Even better that he had nothing to moan about

CSWS, good to hear you are feeling a bit better. It must be horrible having too many balls to play with

star - we looked at a montessori for dd, but it def wouldn't have suited her, despite me liking the idea of it.

ronshar - ds likes stuff off my plate too, but more importantly he likes stuff out of my glass/cup. The boy is obsessed with cherryade/blackcurrant/coke. Even if I give him blackcurrant in his cup for a treat he still wants mine!

Report
StarExpat · 14/12/2009 14:13

oh yes ronshar Q always wants a bit of what I'm eating - even if it's exactly the same as what he's having! He also loves to drink out of my glass, no matter what's in it. So I only drink water around him.

I think montessori would suit Q quite well. A friend of mine teaches montessori. I also looked at the fees and it's cheaper than even a childminder b/c the day is just 9-3.15. It's a cute place. My friend won't be able to look after him next year. I'm thinking of maybe paying for a flight my step mother or someone who wants to spend time with him and doesn't have a job to come over for the month of september to look after him until he can start on 2nd October, if it all works out... but then, where would she stay? We have no space...

Well that was worse than I could have imagined! M was a total nightmare from start to finish. There were no chairs free as everyone's mother, brother, uncle, auntie, grandmother, grandfather, next door neighbour's dog was there. So no room for me! I had to stand at the back and as no push chairs were allowed in the hall, I had to carry M. She leans back when you hold her which makes her feel twice her weight, plus my stomach muscles are still broken from surgery etc so the task was far from easy. I had to stand holding M while my back screamed and M screamed because both wanted her to be put down. But every time I put her down she tried to run away so I had to pick her back up. To make matters worse, every time she screamed half a dozen old folk turned round to glare at me. Brilliant! I managed to see DS do one of his turns and then had to leave for fear of a) crippling myself b) punching an old cats bum faced woman in her cats bum mouth. GRRRRRR.

I am going to write to the school to request that they issue tickets for attendance to the Christmas Concert in future and limit them to two per child. It is totally unreasonable for people to bring 4 or 5 other family members with them and leave poor frazzled mums with their unruly toddlers struggling without a seat.

50ft.

Magnets because if they swallow 2 they seek each other out in the body and can rip through the gut. It's the thing that I am also very wary of.

I don't think we have any magnets in the house. They aren't really your every day items are they? DS has a magnetix play set thingy but M would need the swallowing capacity of a boa to be able to accidentally eat one or two!

Have I missed something? Is someone pg again?

Am I the only one who wont let the kids touch the tree? Ds pulled the tree down last week whilst I was in the kitchen. Lucky that dd started shouting me as he had a big gash on his head and the lights arouns his neck

He is so clumsy. He has a massive bruise in between his eyes after running and falling into a wooden box, nutter.

50ftChristmasTree · 14/12/2009 15:58

Yes you have indeed Knickers. Someone who doesn't like SLEEP is up the duff! The DC are not supposed to touch the tree but even with the toddler cage barrier stretched across the room M still manages to grab things from it. DS is 6 so I don't have to worry so much about him. Hope DS can stay incident free for the next week or so for your Christmas photos!
