Cheers Loopy -I'll be on the look out for it. It's very timely actually; a couple of days ago I had a dream that I went into labour at my Aunties house. I woke up in a tiz because nothing I'd ready. I have been in full on nesting mode ever since.

Sending up burned offerings for you for tomorrow.

Yay Loopy!!!! I will keep everything crossed for you. x

littleoldme · 14/09/2010 21:26

Oh Loopy - great news, although I appreciate you must still be very worried. I too will cross everything X

Loopy, that is great news. Keeping everything crossed for you here too x

Ok the millionaire's shortbread:
Shortbread
250g softened butter
50g caster sugar
250g plain flour
125g cornflour

Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Stir in the flour and cornflour and combine until a smooth pasty dough. Press into tin (28cm x 20) lined with greaseproof paper or silicone liner. Prick with a fork and bake for about 20 mins. It doesn't go very dark (well it didn't in my oven!) Leave to cool in the tin.

Caramel
175g butter
175g caster sugar
4tbsp golden syrup
1 tin condensed milk

Place all ingredients into a heavy pan and heat slowly over a gentle heat, stirring frequently while the mixture melts together. Once it has melted, bring to a gentle bubble and continue to stir for about 5 mins when it will be thicker and golden. Pour it over the shortbread and leave to cool for about 30 mins.

Chocolate
Melt 350g of plain or milk chocolate and pour over the top of the caramel. Place in the refrigereator for a couple of hours. Cut into squares as big or as small as you like!

This comes from Baking Magic by Kate Shirazi, my current favourite cookbook. I'm doing some biscuits for the meeting at nursery later today.

Everything crossed here too Loopy!

Millionaire's shortbread sounds gorgeous Jetgirl. Might give that a whirl one time.

Febes - I feel your pain. We only went for Sunday dinner the other day and that was enough for me! How long are you there for?! Perhaps a little bit of mumsnet every now and then will give you an opportunity to vent. What is the weather like in SA at this time of year?

Well my level 3 group continues to grow - 27 and counting! Quite a lot for level 3 although I know some of you secondary school teachers may think me a wimp! But still all lovely. So far...

DH is busy trying to bond with DS at the mo. He was flavour of the month for a while but then has been told firmly several times this week "not playing with you, don't like you, playing with mummy" Sad. Poor DH, what do you say? Of course he doesn't mean it, just wants me to himself at the mo.

Loopy - Oh dear your poor DH! I would be so upset if Adam was like that with me. But he isn't Grin. One day no doubt I'll just be such an embarrassment that he'll want nothing to do with me.

RGPargy · 17/09/2010 15:43

Jet that recipe looks lush! Will be trying that out sometime very soon i reckon!! :o

Absolutely nothing to report here, except that DD is now loving pre-school/nursery, thank GOODNESS!!

We've got 2 of DP's friends coming down tonight for the weekend Hmm They are coming down tonight, arriving about 10pm and then staying until Sunday. They are all going to be making a track together so DD will be going to Nanna's on Saturday night and I am going to go out with my friend to the cinema and then late night drinking instead! :o I'm not sure how DD will react to two strange blokes being camped out in the front room on a put-me-up, but only time will tell......

I hope they're not banking on sleeping in on Saturday morning - I have my Ocado delivery coming between 7.30 and 8.30am! Mowahahaha!!! :o

littleoldme · 17/09/2010 16:33

Jet - Thanks for sharing the recipe. I will definately be tring that in the not too distant.

Febes - Hope the inlaws are not driving you too batty. Not long til NZ now.

RG - Love the Machiavellian timing of your Ocado delivery. Sounds like you are going to have top weekend.

Loopy - Many thanks, the sling has arrived. I have to pick it up from the post office in the morning.

Sounds like the DCs are spotting our sore points. T often wants DH in the day but me in the night. I can't be training him well enough.
I 've just boughtthis for T so we can go out this winter whatever the weather. Fab quality and he looks so cute. We're calling it his walking up mountain suit.

jetgirl · 18/09/2010 08:06

Loopy you're up early, just seen your post on breech baby thread at 6am, everything ok?

jetgirl · 20/09/2010 10:31

Since we got the rabbits dd has been asking a lot if questions about whether they will have babies - they are 2 boys. She now understands that you need a boy and girl rabbit for that to happen and equally understands it's the same with people. These are not conversations I wanted to be having with her just yet!

William is showing more interest in his potty now, with any luck he'll be out of nappies before his birthday!

How was your weekend rg ?

lom I love that all in one suit - great for some serious puddle jumping I think!

febes I think I could manage a week with my ils before going crazy - hope it's not too stressful for you. I suppose at least you have willing babysitters on hand al the time.

I took William to the playground after dropping dd at school this morning, only to discover it had been demolished! It's being revamped over the winter and will be great, but needless to say I had a disappointed little boy. At least there were lots of diggers to watch. The new plyground is going to have a cafe -yay! So trips ill be more bearable for parents Grin

littleoldme · 20/09/2010 22:51

Loopy - longtime no see. You ok ? Thanks for the sling, it's fab.

Jet- I'm sure the diggers were more than adequate compensation for the lack of swings.

T's first day at pre school today. He loved it and I got to put my feet up. Bliss.

Greedygirl · 21/09/2010 20:09

Hi guys!

Adam starts his pre-school tomorrow LOM! He went for a taster session with me the other day and seemed to enjoy it but told me at bedtime tonight that there are too many "peoples" there and he would like to go on his own, perhaps just with mummy to play with. Oh dear. No rest for the wicked though, Grandma is dropping him off as I'll be at work.

Jetgirl - poor William re the park! But a cafe in a park sounds like a winning combination to me. Adam is still not interested in the potty so think I am going to invest in a couple of toilet seat things to see if that tempts him.

I was a bit Angry today when picking Adam up from CM. She has a helper at the mo, friend of the family type thing who wants to work with children and she literally grabbed hold of Adam to kiss him goodbye and when he protested and pulled away she held on! It resulted with Adam lying on the floor crying and her saying that he was being grumpy today! Silly moo. I am so sick of people (ILs mainly) grabbing hold of him and demanding affection, he is not a cuddly/kissy child and no means no! Oh I feel better for that Grin - there should be a ranty face.

jetgirl · 21/09/2010 20:44

greedy that would have made me really annoyed too. You wouldn't dream of doing that to an adult so why do people think it's appropriate to do that to a child? I'm sure Adam will get used to all the peoples at pre-school and love it!

littleoldme · 21/09/2010 22:23

Greedy - I think you should grab and kiss her against her will, see how she likes it - stupid old trout. Grrrrr

OP posts:
Greedygirl · 21/09/2010 22:37

Lol - I will try that next time. Unfortunately, my FIL would love that approach!

littleoldme · 22/09/2010 03:44

Maybe you should get him to do it ! I'm sure Adam will settle. Too many peoples indeed.

No advance on the potty training here although we are finding it amusing that T had started taking himself off somewhere quiet for a poo in his nappy. Found him squatting behind the garage this aft.

RGPargy · 23/09/2010 13:34

Everything ok with you Loopy?? You're very quiet...... Hmm

My weekend with DP's mates was very busy and as nice as the fellas are, when we closed the front door on them we did let out a big sigh of relief! It's nice to have visitors, but also very nice to get your house back again!

I went to see Devil at the cinema on Saturday and it was quite good! It was quite a jumpy film and not too much gore in it, thankfully, as i'm not really a horror fan, despite DP insisting on watching them now and then and scaring the willies out of me!! Blush

Greedy, i would also be v.v.v. Angry at some random coming up to my DC and trying to kiss them!!

LOM - Glad T enjoyed preschool! :o

RG- Glad your weekend went well and that you and your house in still in one piece.
I can't do any remotely scary films either. I am still haunted by a clip from Little Shop of Horrors that I saw on Sat am TV when I was about six.

Loopy - Phew, glad you are ok. I was beginning to get worried.
The sling looks fab; I plan do some experimenting with it this weekend although not sure how successful it will be with this bump in the way.
Does you email have paypal acc attached. Let me know and I'll send the postage.
I am indeed fat and very tired but not too fed up. Knowing when I'm going to have the baby is making everything feel so much better.

RANT WARNING
Well we had a bit a thing today and I'd appreciate your advice. A couple of friends came over this aft with their DCs. We've been mates since antenatal class and the kids mostly get on. One of the boys though is much more boistrous than the others and quite rough and pushy. Tom is never that really that keen. Anyway, today his mum and I left them for about 2 mins when I heard strange noise. I went into the lounge to find said child holding Tom face down on the floor with his arm round his neck in a headlock. T was ok, more shocked and bemused than upset. His mum was motified and gave him timeout but he was still pushy and aggressive and had a good go and shoving t down our front steps later on.

I know all kids go through phases but it seems a bit more than that with him. I'm also trying really hard not be judgemental about a three year old but... I'm great mates with his mum but it is getting to the point that I don't want to go and see her anymore because her son behaves like such a thug. I'm normally pretty laid back with other people's kids but this has really pissed me off.

Hello

RG - ikwym about having guests. We have got some ILs coming up next week but I am pleased to report that they are staying with other relatives this time. What a cowbag I am! Unfortunately they are a little bit younger than us and still into going around town on a Saturday night. What an old, boring cowbag I am! I love a drink and a dance but I really don't like Hull town centre on a Saturday night. It is like a scene from one of your horror films!

LOM - oh dear, so difficult that one. I think there must be lots of grinning and bearing it going on all over the country on play dates! Do you see the mum socially apart from with the children? Because you might find that the friendship morphs nicely as the kids get older and don't really bother with each other and you can just be friends. Short of watching them like a hawk every time they are together, I am not sure what you can do.

Loopy - Hope Tuesday goes well. I am just having a conversation with Adam as I type, he wants to know what you look like Loopy - he thinks you might have black "computer" hair! Whatever that means. How to explain virtual friends to a 2 yo?

Well, I spoke to soon, Adam has turned from an angel to a little horror seemingly overnight. Lots of time out and tears today. Exhausting!
