Yes thanx Loopy, holiday was fab. Lots of country walking, beach walking and laughing at DD tearing around on the beach and then trying to escape our grasp before she tried tearing INTO the sea!! I am so pleased with DD, she was so very well behaved, bless her, even when she was absolutely tired out (she can be a bit of a whiney monkey when she's tired normally). All back to normal now tho but it has left me with a hankering to live out in the countryside again....

I know what you mean about our DCs growing up so fast!! I cant believe DD's diction these days. DS was in the front garden tinkering with his moped and i was in the back garden with DD. I leant over the back gate to see what DS was doing and DD said to me "Dont look at DS over the gate, he's busy at the moment fixing his motorbike!". She is 2.5, for goodness sake!!! In the words of the Bay City Rollers, "Bye bye baby, baby bye bye" lol. So grown up now!

Uh-oh, DD stirring, bbiab.

Phew, just a quick wee, change into some cooler PJs (damn those hot polyester nighties!) and back to bed again.

LOM - Good luck with the move, hope it all goes well! Congrats on another boy! How wonderful!

Got to take the asthmatic cat back to the vets tomorrow afternoon. She's due a blood test (not quite sure what for tho ) but none of her meds seem to be working for her so i am not sure what the outcome of the visit will be. I've tried all the meds that the vet suggested, from the cat inhaler to the steroids but she's still wheezing away and coughing like she's on 40-a-day.

Hyper thyroid? That's like a really fast one, right? What will they do in surgery? Remove the thyroids or something?

The cat inhaler was given with a spacer, yes. The bloomin' thing cost me £60 () and that was after i shopped around for aaaages to find the cheapest price too! I think it's because it's specialist and just for cats and small dogs. Will ebay it at a later date tho and see what i can get for it lol.

The vet mentioned something about x-rays for my cat to see where the exact problem is if the meds dont work (which they dont) but the last time she was put under a general she had to be resusitated (sp?) so i will refuse to put her under general again. She's 12 years old now so is getting on a bit, although not as old as your cat! We have no insurance either. It's funny because when i first started owning cats, pet insurance was just being brought in and it was considered a bit of a wasteful luxury to have it. Nowadays it's pretty much a standard thing to have and if you dont have it, you're an oddball!

As you take in rescue cats, does that make it harder to get insurance or do you just not bother because you have too many to pay for?? lol!

Morning!
Our cat once dislocated his knee on a night out. The vet thought it could be his hip costing a grand . Luckily it was just a knee set and 14 days in 'hospital' costing us £350. We have just had him rehomed last week. He went to a lovely MNer but I miss him lots. Our chickens go next week also to a MNer though .

Loopy my cat had a blocked urethra too and ended up costing us £1,200!!! It all coincided with a house move, new baby and change in cat food, which all happened within a few months of each other so it could have been down to stress or it might have been down to the cat food (do Nestle make Whiskas?!). Either way, we are now back on Felix and he has special urinary biscuits too just to stop any more crystals forming. My two are a nightmare lol. More meds to give my "asthmatic" cat and have even got to try her with eucalyptus in a steamy bathroom.

Febes - how sad giving away your pets, but as Loopy says, you can at least check in on them

I was meant to go to the gym today but had a bit of disturbed night due to getting up for the loo at least twice and so DD and i are having a lazy day (much to her delight!) in front of the TV instead.

I know Loopy! She's never been a lap cap either so if i walk towards her she always legs it because she knows she is either a) going to the vets or b) (more likely) going to have a tablet shoved into her mouth. If i'm lucky i will get to give her a tickle on the head if i catch her unawares and happen to walk past her with no ill-intentions!

Hi all!

Lovely news about you expecting another boy LOM. I remember partly hoping William would be a girl so I could save money on clothes with the hand-me-downs from DD! I wouldn't swap him of course now

All this talk of pets bills might persuade DH that we should put off a pet for a bit. He wants to downsize our garden shed and put a big rabbit hutch in the garden. Nice idea, but I know it will be muggins who ends up doing everything. I wouldn't mind only I don't really get any thanks for the cooking 6 nights a week, all the washing, housework and getting up first 6 days a week, and I'd just become even more bitter and resentful than I'm probably coming across at the moment!

We had a baby shower at work today for a colleague who is going on maternity leave on Friday. She's from Australia so has no family here, so we're surrogate family for her! She specifically asked for no presents so we did a hand-me-down hamper with top and tail bowl, flannels, towels etc in. It was lovely. She has kept her due date a secret so we don't know when's actually having the baby which is slightly infuriating, but it'll be a nice surprise when he/she finally arrives!

I know that feeling Loopy, we've been in our house 7 years and there's still stuff in boxes in the loft that I can't bring myself to throw away!
