Yay to tax credits Pat - no booking a half term holiday though

Tree I heart you - "I would sit in a jail to have a cuppa with you Moose, you are a sound woman." You make me smile. How do you always have just the right thing to say. FWIW I would love to have a cuppa with you too Moose, you underate yourself methinks.

MissJ DS seems to be in the not-quite-knowing-what-to-do-with-his-naps camp too. He also misses the afternoon one unless he is in the car at just the right moment but he'll have 2 hours in the morning if we're home. I can't remember now when DD moved to having one nap after lunch for an hour or two but given that she gave up altogether at 15mo it can't be all that far away from now for our two. Once they get into that long afternoon nap routine life gets much easier ime.

elkiedee · 18/09/2009 09:08

Pat, good news on the tax credits.

Chefswife, I don't know whether or not you have PND, but it sounds like you really feel the need to get back to work. My suggestion is that you start looking for a studio and some childcare and present what you've found to your husband as a plan when you have some information, then you can start doing some art.

And how about starting with a name change? Something with artist or art in the title, maybe. It's only a suggestion, but you're posting here as you, not as your dh's wife or your dd's mum.

moosemama · 18/09/2009 10:32

Aw thanks folks. Its nice to hear that you think I'm OK, but its easy being sociable when I'm nameless and faceless on MN, not so easy in person. Mum is always telling me I am too hard on myself and she is amazed at how many people come up to talk to me in the playground, but I tend to think they are either taking pity or desperate for someone to talk to.

Just got back from assembly. Ds1 was so excited about getting his star of the week certificate that he got up and ran to the front of the hall when he was called and had to be told to walk (he goes everywhere at 200 miles an hour). Assembly was taken by one of his favourite teachers as well so that added something special to the whole event for him. Dd was a star herself. Took her in the moby and wore my locket and dc names necklace that she loves playing with and she was fine, just a couple of tiny hums as she fell asleep (making all the girls in the top year that were sitting just in front of us go ahhhh!).

Pat am I right in thinking you are a biology teacher? If so, I have a question for you. Apparently one of the questions ds1 asked to get his star of the week award was "how are teeth formed?". Now I know they are formed in the gums in utero, but don't know any more than that. I have found some info explaining about pulp, dentine and enamel but its still not clear and his teacher has asked him to find out the answer to his own question for next week. Am I right in thinking they are just the result of embryonic/cell division type activity the same as any other cell in the body? They're not formed out of existing bone or anything are they? [dense Mummy emoticon]

Dd calls me 'dada'! She also calls daddy 'dada' but doesn't use it for anybody else. She had recently added hiya to her repertoire so now we get 'hiya dada' when he comes home from work which instantly melts the soppy old sod! This morning she has been saying 'baba' much to the delight of her eldest brother who has being trying to teach her to say baby since she was about a week old.

bodenaddict · 18/09/2009 11:11

stripeywoollenhat · 18/09/2009 12:14

gosh, all these chatty little ones! c is working her way through the range of sounds, have had sterling efforts at p for the last day ro two - but no sign of an actual word yet. we are betting on cat for her first word: she goes into paroxysms of joy whenever one of them presents themselves. obviously, they are not remotely as impressed by her...

boden, news, hope school is going okay

dog, impressed you kept your cool, terrifying.

chefswife, sounds like getting back to work is what you need to do, lenni's advice excellent. nursery art - paintings of nursery rhymes, not sure if there's a market, but i am enjoying myself in the odd ten minutes or so i get to paint. confess i am curious about your work, but this might not be the forum you want to discuss it in?

pat, excellent about tax credits

Gumps · 18/09/2009 13:22

Hey all.
Struggling to keep up and so tired eyes won't focus properly. At least the bold is gone though.
S is 9 months tomorrow. Mental. Still up all night though and cried solidly for an hour last night despite calpol. Have given wheat again today and has just vommited all over his bed and cried his heart out. Not good I think.
Finally went to the docs about PMT today. She said my base line mood is probably lower than normal so when the pmt kicks in there is no buffer so I sink quite low. Kind of makes sense. Her advice was to avoid coffee, alcohol and try to eat well and stay away from stress. Not sure I am capable of doing any of those things. She also said to think about the coil. Anyone else got one?
Right hoping the clock striking midnight tonight will magically turn my 9 month old baby into a wonderful sleeper. Can you please all wish for me...

moosemama · 18/09/2009 14:07

Gumps, sounds like you are another one in line for some un MN hugs, (()).

Sorry the wheat didn't go down well.

Don't know anything about coils etc sorry, as I'm allowed to take any hormonal contraceptions due to anomalies on my brain mri a few years back. Hopefully someone else will be along to help soon.

Sending you and ds a large sprinkling of sleep dust and keeping my fingers crossed for tonight for you.

Nine months already! Where does the time go?

hackneyzoo · 18/09/2009 17:21

Quickly Bokkmarkinging. Gumps I got a coil a few months back, the one without the hormoNes, and its good, get minimal `PMT, periods still every 28 days, but heavier and longer than before . Happy 9 months S! Am wishing for more sleep for you and for me!
Glad assembley was good Moose...can't remeber anything else as brain has turned to mush. Dh's b'day today so off out tonight so better get ready...its gonna take a while

PatTheHammer · 18/09/2009 18:11

Blimey moose, i think this is useful. I dont normally take wikipedia as scientific gospel but this page explains the structure and develpment quite well. The process of dentigenisis and stem cells in the gums is not very well understood so there are a few open-ended bits of info here. But, no they are not the same as bone or cartilage. What a homework for a primary school pupil, my students would find that tricky!
Oh, and at KS3 and KS4 teeth were taken off the curriculum so they actually know NOTHING about them now!

While I'm on an education route my year 10 lesson this afternoon was hilarious. It was meant to be on immunity and basically descended into a frank discussion on breat-feeding and chilbirth. Considering some of these girls could potentially have their own babies in the next few years (god forbid!) they were all so clueless! The boys were fascinated with breast-feeding too! Last week a lesson on pathogens turned into one on STI's and there they were also clueless. Breast-feeding info should definitely be on the curriculum at some level imo!

PatTheHammer · 18/09/2009 18:12

Sorry, hi everyone else.

Dog it makes me smile that I make you smile We shouldn't be here either as S born in December but lets hope they love us enough not to kick us off now Glad Beth been good, sounds liek a great day and it was def still summer like here too.
Thanks to you and Moose for the hugs. And Moose more magic dust please as must ahve worked. Went downstairs to find ds1 asleep on the sofa, put him to bed and managed to catch a quick 40 mins sleep myself. It made the world of difference. So whatever you did do it again!
Been looking into coils. Pat can you help me out here? Does the egg and sperm actually still fertilise but the coil stops it implanting? The catholic girl in me can't get my head around that idea so putting me off if its true.
Pat I had to teach yr 7 science one year and got lumbered with the biology bit and reproduction. It was very funny though.
HKZ sleep wishes being sent to you too.
Can't wait for strictly!

You two aren't going anywhere - not on my watch. What I can't believe is that no one else pointed it out Dog! You must have managed a good 6 or 7 months of it! I couldn't resist in the end.

God, sleep bloody awful here too. I have had no sleep to speak of since Sunday - DS has been up hourly for milk/resettling and has spent at least 2.5 hours of every night awake. He was ill until Wednesday but it seems he's got into the habit, since last night he was just as bad. He was pretty bad before he was ill. DH has decided enough is enough tonight and I am no longer settling DS alone in the evening - we are each taking a turn to go in and lie him down (the beggar stands up in his cot now) and tell him night night until he gets the message. We aren't leaving him to cry because we aren't leaving him, but it had got to the stage where he would only settle for me and wanted feeding to dopey and then putting down half asleep. I think DH realised that I was pretty much at breaking point when I made a stupid mistake at a roundabout when I picked him up from work and almost caused the car behind to go into the back of us. There comes a point I guess when it isn't in anyones interest to put up with the sleep thing until it sorts itself out - although I am still firmly in that camp at heart.

Gumps I'm sorry you are still suffering with the mones, sounds like your doc has a good idea of whats going on. Do you think it might be worth trying to see if there is anything you can do about your general moods so that you don't sink so low with PMT?

Gumps They prevent sperm from fertilising the egg by creating a blockage so that sperm are less likely to reach the fallopian tubes and the hormone ones (iirc - might be all of them) thicken the cervical mucus so sperm less likely to enter the uterus. They also irritate the womb lining as Dog said above. If it is any help a foetus is not a foetus until it has implanted, until implantation it is not considered a pregnancy. I have also heard of people getting pregnant with a coil fitted, but again iirc the person I personally knew had had it fitted incorrectly and the other person had a uterus that was shaped so that it wasn't affected.

VeryHungryLennipillar · 18/09/2009 20:00

affected effective

Yes, we were ok - tbh I didn't even realise it had happened until DH screamed at me and the person behind pipped, I had zoned out I definately think bf is too easy in the night! I give in too easily too.

VeryHungryLennipillar · 18/09/2009 20:04

Dog Must have been just before the DM thing blew up - maybe a couple of months back. Made me everytime you did it - perhaps you could start calling Gumps Qumps now??

Evening all

I have got the computer tonight as dh has gone off to our mates 40th birthday party overnight.

Its interesting that a lot of the babies seem to suddenly be disturbed at night. I haven't had a good nights sleep in a couple of weeks now. Dd is really restless and incessantly raising her legs then slamming them down in the cot. She does it repeatedly for ages and its so annoying. Dh is also snoring like a pig and the water tank in the loft above our room had decided it wants to join in and make a roaring sound as it refills at night. All in all, one very tired Mummy here. At least I won't have dh's snoring in my earhole all night tonight.

Had an awful evening, boys both were determined not to do their homework, lots of complaining, then shouting, then tears (me and them ), then had to put ds2 to bed for being really rude and obstreperous (sp?) and dd screamed most of the way through the whole thing. Aaargh! Thank heavens its the weekend!

Pat thanks for the tooth info. Its not actually on the curriculum in that much depth. Its ds1, he just loves finding things out and asks really complicated questions which neither I or his teachers ever know the answers to. Frankly, I don't know what I'd do without the internet. The tooth thing was just one of the questions he asked during his science lesson and when he was asked at his certificate presentation whether or not he knew the answer yet he said no, so the deputy head asked him if he would find out and let her know because she didn't know either!

Gumps am sending more sleepy dust your way - have sprinkled a fair bit around my own house tonight as well.

VeryHungryLennipillar · 18/09/2009 20:53

Here here to the weekend Moose what a little star DS1 is - can't say I knew anything about how teeth were formed either

stripeywoollenhat · 18/09/2009 21:15

dog, still no top teeth here, but they are outrageously red and bulgy now, so it can't be long. she is chewing everything in reach and with the bottom ones this has made bf awful. i now have a horrible sore hole in my left nipple mostly bf at night since she doesn't bite when she is half asleep. but think we are in last couple of weeks of bfing, really.

lenni, crap! really glad you are all okay.

gumps and dog - you are forbidden to leave. your los being poor time keepers is no reason to abandon us...

elkiedee · 18/09/2009 22:58

Dog, remember my C was a February baby too. Actually I do post on that thread sometimes and have met some of them quite a few times.

Gumps, good luck with the sleep.

I've survived a week with D off the childminders - only 2 days next week and dp will be here all day Tuesday. Both D and C had a really great nap this afternoon - at least an hour and a half each with an hour overlap - of course I was too surprised to make the most of it effectively.

newspaperdelivery · 19/09/2009 00:36

Thank God it's the weekend
