hi isit mssparkle

DS1 is very ill with high temp and coughing. doc suspects swine flu so he started on tamiflu today. DS1 is 5 yrs old. so we're all on tenterhooks here.

LO is 8 months old and touch wood, doing well. really hoping he wont get sick. we are continually washing our hands, using alcohol gel etc.

heron22 · 25/09/2009 14:34

mssparkle LOVE your dress, shoes, bag! love it!

moosemama · 25/09/2009 14:48

Heron your poor ds1. My ds1 (7) had swine flu at the end of July, high temp, coughing plus wheezing and being completely out of it. (There was no mistaking it was swine flu, I think when you've got it you know about it.) We put him straight on tamiflu and he was significantly better within 24 hours and up and about in 48. He was still poorly after taking the tamiflu, but just like a bad cold and exhausted rather than full on flu like it was to start with. To be honest it was the wheezing that scared us the most, we almost took him to a&e as he hasn't got asthma or anything and I'd never heard him wheeze before. Also, he just looked soooo poorly, he was a really strange pale colour with dark circles under his eyes.

We tried loads of things to get the tamiflu into him, he was very good and tried to take it but really gagged at the taste. He reckoned honey hid the taste better than jam, but it was a proper pita to mix it together.

We did the handwashing and gel and kept him in his bedroom away from dd and despite ds2 sharing a room with ds1 and them playing together before we knew he was contagious, noone else caught it, so everything crossed you will be the same.

Hope he feels better really soon.

moosemama · 25/09/2009 15:43

Ok folks I'm going to do my blushing now before you all read the MN roundup.

See what happens when you are lying on your sickbed bored out of your brains - you post things you would never ordinarily admit to.

I would like to point out that it was nearly 8 years ago and I am a much smaller lass all over these days.

heron22 · 25/09/2009 16:34

moose thank you foryour post. good to hear tamiflu took effect so quickly. DS1 has got wheezing too, esp when he was sleeping.

so fingers crossed!

we put the tamiflu with mango juice and he drinks it.

heron22 · 25/09/2009 16:37

moose you are sick? have you got a cold? oh, i am not looking forward to winter this year! not that i ever look forward to winter!

moosemama · 25/09/2009 17:29

Yep Heron, that's why I've been hanging around Mumsnet so much for the past few days. Not well enough to get up, but bored in bed and head too fuzzy for reading or doing anything useful. Its a sort of fluey coldy virusy thing, definitely not swine flu but not very pleasant all the same.

Bizarrely dd seems to have recovered faster than I have, but then I have been more than a little stressed over the past week or so and I suppose the fact that I am still bf means I'm a bit depleted as well.

heron22 · 25/09/2009 19:00

moose hope u get better soon! it is dreadful being stuck in bed sick. and well done for still bfing! how often does your LO feed these days?

heron22 · 25/09/2009 19:01

moose where is this MN roundup!?

newspaperdelivery · 25/09/2009 19:02

heron - hope ds improves quickly. Both mine did so hope it's same for you

Moose - tears in eyes from you round up antics. Cheered me up as am grumping with dh. Hope your feeling better.

moosemama · 25/09/2009 19:17

Thanks Heron. For the weekly roundup you can go onto the main 'Talk' page and find it under mumsnet latest on the right handside. You can subscribe to get it emailed to you every week if you want.

Hi News glad to be of service. Am very that it ended up so high profile - hope it doesn't end up in the Daily Mail this week as well! What's up duck, is it just that awful end of the week exhaustion or is there more to it? Come and grump at me if you like - I don't mind.

Aaargh! Half my tooth just fell out! Oh god am going to have to try and get it sorted tomorrow morning and I have to be in Wisbech for lunch time for my nephews birthday party!!

moosemama · 25/09/2009 19:44

Right have just called the NHS Direct dental number as I don't have a dentist. Am waiting for a dental nurse to call me back. I am so terrified of dentists its untrue - the last time I went to a dentist I was 17 and it was when they did the flippin filling on the tooth that has just broken. (I am 39 now so you can tell how scared I must be not to have been back for that long.)

The woman on the phone asked how my tooth fell out and was really shocked when I said I just touched it and it came away, apparently they usually come out when people are eating. Shouldn't be surprised, the dentist we went to as kids ended up being called 'The Smash and Grab Clinic'!

VeryHungryLennipillar · 25/09/2009 20:53

I've just scanned through on a sneaky break. So much going on but wanted to just quickly send my thoughts to you HKZ - what a terrible terrible thing to happen. I hope you find the words, as I am certain they will be appreciated.

MissJ I do indeed have a MB. I am in love with it, and you'll be pleased to hear it fits very nicely in the boot of a CRV!! I'm 'childminding' my nephew 3 days a week from Jan though (he is 24hours younger than DS) so will need to invest in a double - I will be very sad to have to leave my MB at home part of the time.

Dog Am off to read your thread now - can't promise to be of any belated help but I'd second all those who have said trust your instincts. You know him better than anyone.

Moose Argh! Hope it is sorted now.

Pat Hope you got gin. What a swine.

Must dash, be back soon.

PatTheHammer · 25/09/2009 21:31

Hey everyone, not really with it so will be brief. Been off work today as Zach puked everywhere this morning (3 times, twice all over me ). Been a complete milk machine all day as all he has wanted in breastmilk and cuddles. Nice to know I do still produce in the day but god I am drained.........

he seems much better now he has finally gone to sleep.

Moose-Arrrggh about tooth! hope it gets sorted.

Heron-Poor DS, hope he is better soon and its not swine flu.

Teayet- Thats what you get for such a common surname!!! CAT me your name if you like and I'll find you if its quicker. Yes we are boiling mad but the fault seems to be with our buyers solicitor (erm, who our estate agent recommended, lucky escape there) and the guy at the bottom of the chains solicitor. Our one has been doing all the chasing and any movement at all is down to him. Anyway, one day I will not live surrounded by boxes!

Dog- Did read your thread and big hugs to you. Mr A sounds so lovely but I do understand your concerns. keep pushing if you feel ignored and taking dp along for moral support is a fab idea. He may be too young for a concrete diagnosis and they will say 'give it time' but I know how frustrating that is when all you want is answers in the here and now. i do hope you can talk to someone a bit more proactive soon (maybe the pre-school can do something? DD's have been excellent).

PatTheHammer · 25/09/2009 21:37

Oh, sparkle, what a lovely dress! You will look a million dollars! (hefty price tag on that bag, but hey, treat yourself when you can).

Welcome back Lenni-hows it all going?? Hectic? Is your sis moving up then if you are minding your nephew? How great for you. what happened to nursery though? Or is that for other 2 days?

News-How was school today?

MissJ-hope you had a great day swimming and riding.

Right, really am off now as I am sure as hell not getting a full nights sleep tonight (apart from boob milk Z has had half a roll today, I'm guessing he will be starving at 1am)

Oh and tooth number EIGHT is just peeking through.

newspaperdelivery · 25/09/2009 23:51

Yes am very of that dress. And the ability to wear it.

Poor you Moose!

Am ok here, just tired and getting a temp. Boring!

School was ok! Have updated the sept handholding thread. SHe is doing better, though still has sad lonely moments at school. AM seeing more positives about the school, as much as I hate how they started them off this term. End of her first full week. She didn't look like crying yesterday, she looked brave today. She was bushed tonight.

She handed out her party invites so that was lovely. She put them in the kids trays. Sadly we didn't put which kid they are from ! Lol! Ah well, they know where to go and when and my contact details are on so I'll say who she is then. What a daft thing to do!

Hope you are ok with that tooth Moose.

Good luck tonight Pat, hope he feels better soon, and you get some sleep. Been up till 3am for last 4 nights with MissH, so am zombified myself. I hope for better things for you!

Can't stop - baby up. But will be back.

Christening is week on Sunday, we are going to hotel where we had dd1's. The cake will have her flowers form her cake too [sort of lemony cream roses]. I have decided to buy the M&S blank cakes and just sort of slap the flowers on top and hope for the best! I'll do a small on a medium si, and put some nice ribbon around to jazz it up. Plus our local cake shop will make the name plate icing thing in any design or colour. £3. Bargain!Am tryign to save pennies.

What are you planning tea? I booked balloons for the tables on Thurs. Have gone for cream, pale sage green and shell pink groups of 3. I love all this stuff
Are you catering yourself or getting in? At home or at a venue?

Hope you are having nice weekends people, and that the poorly ones are better, and that dentists have rescued tohe in need!?
