dinky and (((((huuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs!)))))

littlesez at that age gap. I knew a pair of brothers with a gap like that when I was little - everyone assumed they were twins.

dinkystinkystein · 22/10/2009 14:53

Thanks Swampster and STZ - am getting through the day on a combination of chocolate and coffee! Fortunately less chaotic day than yesterday workwise though am having to run round getting docs signed on a deal and trying to force myself not to fall asleep in cabs around london... Danny is apparently extremely grumpy - have left the last of the frozen EBM for him (all 8 ounces of it - wish had expressed more) for his milk during the day today and instructions for nanny to give him just water and if he is absolutely insistent on it dry toast only and 5 oz of heavily diluted formula - given the child is obsessed with food its leaving him in a rather crappy mood If he doesnt vom today then he can have food and formula again tomorrow I guess. Am steeling myself for hungry baby being awake through the night though...

On to happier thoughts... off on holiday in just over a week's time. Hurrah...

swampster · 22/10/2009 14:59

poor wee chap. Stick to the BRATY white stuff: bread, rice, apples, toast and yoghurt - all quite kind on a delicate tummy.

BloodRedTulips · 22/10/2009 18:11

Well after all my ranting about dp the other day he's been an absolute lifesaver the last couple of days..... i got a nasty dose of mastitis and and was a shivering shaking feverish heap on the couch on tuesday, completely incapable of movement and dp did everything for the kids, cleaned the house, made dinner and minded me really well despite having a cold himself and not feeling the best.

Almost back to normal now, boob is still tender but fluey feeling is gone thankfully... dp and A are being packed off to the docs tomorrow though for their coughs.

Had to bring dd back to the hospital today as her cast was hurting her so now she has a red one and seems alot happier and more comfortable.

coco, A is now totally BLW as he took against me giving him anything about a month ago and he too upends vast amount onto the floor, then when he gets out of the highchair he crawls back over while i'm sorting out the other mentalists and starts eating what he rediscovers on the floor [classy]

speaking of classy, i might as well book my place on JK now... A had pizza from the chipper for dinner the week has been so crazy and we were so late back with dd that i stopped in town for pizza for us and only realised on the way home i had nothing for A so i gave him some... he loved it (by loved i mean he ate about 3 bites... which for A is good going) He's also partial to ships and stole a rice krispie bun when i wasn't lookingh today at the hallowe'en haunted house at dd's school [sends self to naughty step]

dinky, sorry you had the night from hell.... massive sympathy as we seem to b a house of plague atm too and i'm running on empty... hope you had a peaceful day at work to recover

Cocodrillo · 22/10/2009 21:36

BRT LOL re the BLW, nice to know other people also live in a pit!

Dinky OMG, poor you, I hope DS2 is on the mend now, so so stressful.

dinkystinkystein · 23/10/2009 11:22

Thanks guys - Danny seems to be a little better today - has eaten three discs of banana this morning with no barfing yet, touch wood...

Heard from LBB last night - she's hopefully getting her computer back today so will be back on soon.

BRT - sorry to hear about the mastitis, ugh. Good that DP pulled his socks up and rose to the occasion. PMSL at your JK comment - Danny has had pizza too and loves it (seemed unfair to him to deprive him of a margarita when the rest of us were having some) though hasnt had any ships (?) yet. Glad DD is happier with her new cast.

MarkStretch · 23/10/2009 11:51

Hello all

{{{{{hugs}}}}} to dinky (but excuse me if I don't get too close, you have a sweetcorn kernal on your forehead ) and everyone else who's been having a rough time recently.

All is good in the Stretch household, F started crawling 2 days ago and is now into everything. His favourite trick is to pull all the books off the bookcase and search out my purse, rip the entire contents out, flinging all my cards around the room and eating my money.

He has got 2 teeth now and DD's are falling out at an alarming rate. She put one under her pillow the other night and I forgot to do the tooth fairy thing and didn't realise until she came down in the morning sobbing. I quickly realised and ran upstairs to shove a pound under her pillow only for her to hand it back to me and say 'You can have this back, I know it was you'

I felt like a very bad mother.

I am getting closer to making some decisions about going back to work . DH forgot to put his timesheet in this month so we're missing out on 54 hours of overtime money until next month. Beans on toast for us!

BloodRedTulips · 23/10/2009 12:15

dinky... chips ... too lazy to correct the typo when i saw it after posting... thought it would be obvious but maybe it's not if you don't normally hear it say in a west of ireland accent

MS at your dh forgetting his timesheet... bet he's feeling a bit sheepish!

dinkystinkystein · 23/10/2009 12:56

Aah, suddenly all becomes clear BRT - yup, Danny has had ships too - but didnt really like them and infinitely prefers mashed potatoes for their flinging potential...

Anyone else having to break out the 12-18 month stuff for their babies? Poor Danny is long in leg and body so 6-12 month dont fit him any more - in the 12-18 months the bodies and trousers fit him but his little arms are swamped and we have to roll them up so much he looks like he has little doughnuts on his arms... bless...

SweetTalkinZombie · 23/10/2009 13:49

Just quick question on a busy Friday... When can we give normal tap water to our LO's to drink, rather than cooled, boiled water? I ended up having to this morning with Sam, but not sure what the "official" guidelines are. I can't remember from when DD was little !

dinkystinkystein · 23/10/2009 14:01

Danny has been on tap water since 6 months - but on cooled boiled water due to bug at the moment...

swampster · 23/10/2009 14:05

Yup, once they are mobile and putting everything in their mouths, sterilisation goes out the window in this house. Another vote for tap water.

SweetTalkinZombie · 23/10/2009 14:53

Excellent news! I haven't been sterilising for the past month and no side effects, so out with faff of cooling boiled water too - hurrrah! Off to the coffee machine for the final push now.... roll on the weekend!

MarkStretch · 23/10/2009 16:02

I read tap water was ok for 6 months too. I don't sterilise anything.

littleboyblue · 23/10/2009 19:38

Hello
I'm back finally. Missed you all. Do I have any chance of catching up?

All's well here. Luke is getting over tonsilitis(sp?) and Jacob's temp hit 42.4 last weekend so life's been abit miserable here really.
Jacob is out of nappies now. I went more relaxed than I'd planned and today was his 2nd day out without a nappy on. 2 accidents, but was pretty impressed with that.

I'm just eating dinner, will then take Luke from dp and settle him (again) and after eastenders, I'll attempt to catch up

littleboyblue · 23/10/2009 20:51

Where are you all? Did you all spot I was back so logged off? lol

I sterilise and use boiled water until 12 months when we move onto normal milk. That's just what I did with Jacob and what I'll do with Luke.

Luke still isn't crawling. He drags himself along the floor.

I'm really trying to think of something interesting that's happened since I went off, but can't.

swampster · 23/10/2009 21:01

Welcome home, LBB.

Cocodrillo · 23/10/2009 21:42

Good to see you back LBB, we missed you.

DS doesn't even drag himself along the floor!

I've never understood the boiled drinking water thing, as isn't our tap water really, like, clean anyway? Not that DS will drink out of his cup, he just bangs it on the table and laughs maniacally.

I stopped sterilizing maybe a month ago.

DS has still got a cold. It's been over a month, I swear. But now he's got nappy rash too (unusual). Teething????? He's got 4, the top 2 just appeared overnight a wk ago. Or at least I looked in his mouth one day and he had 4 teeth when used to have 2, but who knows how long they'd been there

littleboyblue · 23/10/2009 21:52

Thanks ladies

I just still sterilise and use boiled water because I've got myself into a little routine with it, and I prefer sterilising bottles than having to dry them with a dish towel iyswim? I am a bit strange though lol

coco hope ds gets better soon. Awful when they get colds isn't it?
I find Metanium cream for nappy rash works well. 1 day of use at every other nappy change and the worst rashes have cleared.
My 2 have been really lucky with that though. ds1 has only had maybe 3/4 in 2 years and Luke has never had one.

I should go to bed now. I have to look after a 3yo and a 2yo alongside my 2 tomorrow while dp does some work on the car with a friend of ours.
Fun.

Cocodrillo · 23/10/2009 22:17

Good luck tomorrow LBB

Our old DW was really rubbish so I sterilized DD2's bottles until she stopped having them (at age 2.3!!).

elkiedee · 23/10/2009 23:59

I sterlised for milk while using formula until 1 year with ds1. I'm hoping not to use formula myself this time round, he will have bottles with the CM but I'll bf at home. He's quite interested in bottles - Danny still drinks fresh milk from Avent bottles - but I've noticed that he's only had a small amount of formula on his two mornings at the CM. Tuesday is his first full day though so we'll see what happens then.

Today was the last day of my maternity leave though I'm taking annual leave on Monday. Can't believe it's all gone by already.

elkiedee · 24/10/2009 00:00

Ooh, welcome back LBB

Dinky, hope your Danny stops being sick.

littleboyblue · 24/10/2009 09:50

Can I give Luke prawns yet?

mumofsatan · 24/10/2009 13:52

hello all and welcome back LBB I've not been around much myself so am also struggling to keep up.

dinky hope LO is feeling a bit better now, its so awful when they are sick, they just don't understand it.

Elkie hope all goes ok when you return to work.

LBB no idea about prawns, I don't eat fish (apart from birds eye fish fingers ) so no idea. I'm sure someone far wiser than me can tell you.

Crappy week here, yesterday was the 5th anniversary of dad's death and the 5th month anniversary of mum's so I was pretty grumpy/miserable/snappy all day. DH had been acting like a shit as well which didn't help and found out in the evening he'd 'forgotten'it was dad's anniversary, even though I'd told him a few days before. I hope I don't forget important stuff like that in the future.

DC 1 and 2 en route to the land of sand now, arriving at around 8pm (our time) so that will be nice. DD2 is very excited

dinkystinkystein · 24/10/2009 14:20

Welcome back LBB - nice to see you back on Danny seems to have recovered from the vom bug now - but seems to have a cold and decided to start our day today at 5.20am. Cant bear the thought that tomorrow he might start our day at 4.20am Ho hum... Danny is on the crawl LBB and pulling up to standing too - he's just so desperate to be like his big brother. Well done on the potty training - sounds like its going well. Those of you with a nervous disposition/eating look away now (sorry that seems to be becoming a catchphrase of mine - is tragic what my life has become ) but while I thought we had potty training licked with DS1 yesterday afternoon he decided to do a poo on the bathroom floor and wipe it all over himself - he took his clothes off so our poor nanny (who was looking after him) thought they were clean and just put them in the laundry basket and cleaned up the bathroom and the stinky dirty protester. I was out last night with DH at a dance thing but got up this morning and thought DS1's clothes from yesterday stank abit of poo so just chucked them in the washing machine with my gym kit and a couple of Danny's bibs - only to discover after the first wash that DS1 had actually pooed in the pants and trousers that our nanny had put in the basket and I now had poo all over the clothes. Makes me want to vom now just thinking about it again. So have washed the washing machine with soda crystals twice on a 90 degree wash and am now putting the poo clothes through their third 90 degree wash with soap and soda crystals in the hope they shift the smell. Will be soooooooooooo pissed off if I have to bin those clothes... Never have the words "dinkystinky" described our household better than this morning...

Elkie - sorry mat leave is over, but hey I hope you enjoyed your time off on mat leave and enjoyed your special time with C and D and that you made lots of good new friends in your time off. Hope your return to work goes smoothly.

MoS - lovely to see you back on. Sending you hugs though - such a sad time with your dad's anniversary and 5 month mark after your mum passing away. Hope DH pulls his socks up and gives you proper emotional support and that you have a lovely time with all 4 DC around.

I'm another nutter when it comes to sterilising bottles - I sterilise bottles till 1 and also use boiling water to make up formula till 1 - thereafter I stop sterilising, use whole milk and move them onto cups eventually. Think the sterilising till 1 thing is because am paranoid about bottle hygiene but no idea why at 1 my weirdo mind suddenly thinks its fine not to sterilise...

Went to lovely dance thing at Peacock Theatre last night (nearly binned it as was so tired but so glad we didnt) and took the boys to see a puppet show at the Tricycle this morning which was lovely (though Danny far too tired and grouchy to appreciate it - had to resort to feeding him crisps from 10 minutes in to keep him quiet ) Think we're going ot have a quiet afternoon as DH is working this afternoon and is a bit grey and grim out there..
