he slept 8.30 to 5.15

unfortunately i was so convinced he was going to wake i stayed up and fell asleep on the couch til dp roused me at 2am

MS, you were probably so stressed with the medical worries this month that your body decided it wasn't the best time for a pregnancy, bet you anything that now your stress free regarding your health you'll be lucky soon

dinkystinkystein · 17/10/2009 13:44

Thats bloody brilliant BRT! Good to see the sleep training has finally paid off...now you just need to train yourself to sleep

Went out to an evening wedding reception last night which was lovely - Danny woke at 1.30 for a feed then was up from 4.15 until I finally got him to sleep at 5.30 this morning. When I got up with him at 6.30 I discovered why he was so wired in the early hours - his nappy had literally fallen apart on him in the night and the poor monkey was feeling rather damp. I have never had that happen before with a nappy - I wonder if recession cost-cutting measures are to blame....

Thanks also to KBN and BRT for confirming the acting up is a usual thing. DS1 has been really lovely to be around today and much more his usual self so am feeling abit more relaxed about things now.

littlesez · 17/10/2009 21:33

ffs this computer is shite wont let me post

elkiedee · 18/10/2009 01:21

Hi all, I hadn't realised how behind I'd got on this thread and then realised it had fallen off my threads I'm on.

Only a week of maternity leave left to go. If only work could get paying me right - we get paid mid month for the whole calendar month so I should have had SMP and then full pay for the last 5 or 6 days, it seems I just have SMP to 25 October and then nothing. It makes having to pay so much just to go to work (childcare and fares) seem quite annoying!

BloodRedTulips · 18/10/2009 10:56

fecking dp woke A last night... twat needed to take his inhaler but wouldn't take it when i woke him and his super loud and fast heavy breathing woke the baby who spent the rest of the night being hyper and annoying, and even when he dozed off the darth vader on speed impression going on in the bed with me kept me awake

dinkystinkystein · 19/10/2009 13:47

Oh no BRT - so angry you didnt even halloween-emoticon your post Hope A is resting now and you've got some sleep in and DP has finally taken his meds.

Elkie - hope you have a lovely last week of maternity leave. Am sure all will be well when you go back to work - it'll just take a period of readjustment for all to deal with.

BloodRedTulips · 19/10/2009 16:21

i may kill the men in my house soon... ds1 woke A last night having hysterics at 2am because, and i quote; 'I don't want to have rainbow coloured hands! My leg is sore! I want dadddeeeee! Come in your bed mommy'

then spent 5 hours with him and dp unconscious but A losing the plot only to discover at 7am that the little sod just wanted to go back in his cot and go to sleep on his own (discovered this as i had a minor tantrum and put him in his cot with the words 'Fine! mommy clearly doesn't know what you want so you can stay there til the alarm goes off' and he bloody well smiled at me and closed his eyes!)

had to get up half an hour later and bring dd to the hospital to have her cast changed so have been on the go since.... then when i got home i was greated by a sulking dp who got to sleep til 10am whining about how demanding the boys were and claimimg 'My morning was a lot harder than yours' yes because driving an hour to wait in waiting rooms for 2 hours with a hyper 4 year old to watch my daughters cast be sawed off and replaced was a barrell of laughs, especially when i had the hour long drive home to cheer me up afterwards...

but you see, he's sick.... far sicker than ds1 who's on antibiotics or dd who has a cough as well as a broken leg..... on deaths door in fact and he was expected to mind childrn in that state... i've obviously never had to deal with the kids on my own whilst ill... oh, hang on

grrrrr, sorry for the rant... have an assignment to do and am stressed even without this shite!

dinkystinkystein · 19/10/2009 17:02

Sounds like your sleep training of A has been highly effective BRT - so much so that he now HAS to sleep in his cot Seriously, hope your evening is much better and that the kids and DP let you get some work done and some sleep tonight. How did the cast removal/replacement go? Any idea on how much longer DD will need to have a cast?
If worst comes to worst, kick DP out to sleep in with DS1 so you and A can have the bedroom to yourselves - or sleep on the sofa and let DP deal...

BloodRedTulips · 19/10/2009 18:06

they didn't even x-ray her... the doctor decided he didn't want to expose her to unecessary radiation she's got a below the knee one for three more weeks now... that'll be 9 weeks in total provided all's clear at that x-ray

i have a playschool commitee meeeting tonight so not much hope of rest or work tbh, hopefully A will sleep well tonight though, at least i know now if he's woken he doesn't want to be in with me!

dinkystinkystein · 20/10/2009 16:21

Am getting lost in the tumbleweed on here....

Cocodrillo · 20/10/2009 20:00

I have a problem: DS will only eat milk, rice cakes, fruit puree and Ella's kitchen (stage 1) pouches. I am a shit cook and have no time or energy, so don't tell me to cook him stuff, please please please. But he looks disgusted if given Stage 2 food, think he hates the taste of cheese, chicken, fish and beef, oh, and lentils. Sometimes he sucks toast and butter. And he hoovers up the odd fromage frais. Won't touch Weetabix etc. It's bothering me, the not-eating-protein-thing. Any ideas? Should I just chill out as he's only (just! today!) 8 months?

elkiedee · 21/10/2009 00:49

Coco, plenty of protein in milk and fromage frais - food for fun until one is a baby led weaning slogan but it's still true I think if you're doing purees.

Have you tried putting more proteiny foods on his rice cakes? Have you tried any other food as finger food? What do you have and could he be offered a taste of it? If food with wheat in is ok, bread and pasta also have some protein, he really doesn't need loads and loads of it, my understanding is that the foods generally eaten for protein such as meat or replacements also contain vitamins and minerals which they're important for.

elkiedee · 21/10/2009 00:50

And yes, you shouldn't worry about it too much.

dinkystinkystein · 21/10/2009 10:19

Chill Coco - DS1 was like that (sadly stayed a finickety eater but now seems to be improving rather and LOVES all things animal protein like, veggies are a different matter however). Try the Plum baby pots on him - he may like (DS1 loved those) - think they now do ones with hidden protein in them. He doesnt need animal protein if he doesnt want it.

dinkystinkystein · 21/10/2009 10:21

And if DS is hoovering up his milk he is getting lots of protein as Elkie says.

DS may like breadsticks - which you can dip in cream cheese or a home made tuna dip (easy - tin of tuna in spring water, yoghurt, bit of lemon juice and peppper whizzed in food processor) if you are so inclined.

at Swampy's tundra...

SweetTalkinZombie · 21/10/2009 13:49

Feeling peckish at all this food talk! Just waiting for my soup to cool down before I tuck in. Pea and broad bean today - yum. I'm eating very healthily back at work, although it's just a matter of time until I succumb to the pizza and chips...

Hope everyone is well - it really has been quiet on here. I've lost a couple of posts because I start typing, then someone comes over and I flick between screens and manage to lose it.

Things are okay so far this week. Last week was not good - I had a stinking cold and also broke a tooth, but am a picture of health this week! DD is still clingy and crying, and still doing the "sorry, mummy" thing, and is generally high maintenance, but is very happy at the childminder's which is very comforting.

My little man Sam is being extra gorgeous at the moment I look forward to getting him out of his cot every morning - he's just soooo happy to see us! He's sleeping incredibly well at the moment, but I know that this won't last - I'm just enjoying my 8 hours at the moment!

BRT hope things have cooled down in your household? What a shame DD couldn't lose her cast completely. I'm also getting a bit frustrated with DH, who is really not pulling his weight on the domestic front, so I seem to spend all evening washing, folding and ironing, meal planning, paying bills etc. Grrrrr.

Anyway, going to tuck into my soup now before it gets cold, then it's back to the grindstone....

Cocodrillo · 21/10/2009 14:51

thanks for the tips and reassurance.

I did try BLW but he drops everything, or throws it over his shoulder, nothing goes near his mouth - well except for toast and rice cakes .

There was one particular day when he was sitting wailing in his highchair, gazing sadly at a sort of sea of fallen pieces of sliced pear. Not at all like the babies in the BLW book who adeptly pick up little pieces of sweetcorn with their precocious pincer grips.

v impressed re veg soup. I have just eaten a Whispa (naughty!).

dinkystinkystein · 21/10/2009 16:26

Coco - each baby is different. DS1 would have been exactly the same as your DS if I had tried BLWing on him - Danny loves BLWing but that's because he is desperate to be grown up like his big brother and copies everything DS1 does.... and FWIW Danny drops ALOT of food on the floor too (I tend to do larger portions for him than for me or DH as I know 3/4 of it will be floor food) and tends to start crying inconsolably if the bowl is empty because he has deliberately emptied it on the floor/table etc so purees you know they will eat sounds imminently more sensible on the food wastage front

STZ - ouch re your tooth, hope you got it fixed quickly. Glad Sam is still being a cutie but sorry DD is still being high maintenance - may be an age thing too?

Having day from hell at work and just coming on here for some peace and quiet among the tundra... once more into the fray...

SweetTalkinZombie · 21/10/2009 16:29

Coco - Sam's the same! He'll gladly pick up rice cakes, toast, oven chips ( stolen from his sister's plate) - anything hard and crunchy, basically. But dare to offer cucumber, banana or other fruit and veg, and his face wrinkles in disgust and he swipes it on the floor! However he loves being spoon fed so is taking in loads of food, little porker.

I now have terrible wind from my veggie soup and think I would have been better off with a Wispa .

Cocodrillo · 21/10/2009 21:40

Dinky OMG I can't give DS a bowl, the whole lot would be on the floor before the meal had started. Like the phrase floor food! And I hope your workday improved.

STW, so sweet that Sam is being so sweet! This age is supercute, they're so funny. DS was SO excited earlier, I thought he was going to burst a gasket, and all he was doing was looking at the lampshade. Woah!!

littlesez · 22/10/2009 04:46

i am going to smash my modem up seriuosly it is causing me stress!

littlesez · 22/10/2009 06:44

but apart from that all is well in the littlesez household, wagging work today to stay home with poorly bubs and hubby is off too, yay family PJ day

Dinky hope work is ok today

dinkystinkystein · 22/10/2009 09:04

Morning all. Sorry you're being plagued with IT troubles Littlesez - with you, LBB and Spotty and MamaGoose having IT gremlins, the evil IT forces of darkness seem to be out to get the Fab Febbers... Hope Izzy gets better soon and wow at your antenatal class friend -brave lady!

Thanks all - work was horrible yesterday, but day just got worse as (and those eating breakfast/of a sensitive tummy look away now) then went home and BF Danny and put him down to hear a noise just before 8 and find him asleep in a pool of vomit so had to get him up and clean him (the poor child had pasta stuck to his forehead, spinach in his ears and sweetcorn kernels on his cheeks) and the cot up and put him back to bed where he went back to sleep... then an hour later heard another noise, went to check on him and found him awake this time in a pool of vomit (was his lunch this time, salmon chunks, tomatoes and grapes - nice) so cleaned him up again and finally got him to sleep and went off to do a world of laundry.... only to hear him again an hour later hurling (breakfast this time I think - food becoming less distinguishable as the chunks got smaller) so got to do the clean up duty again, ad infinitum until around 1 this morning when he finally stopped vomming and went to sleep... only to wake at 2.30 for a BF and 3.50 for a BF and cuddle and at 6 for a BF... and was dealing with it all myself as poor DH was stuck at work on deal from hell... aargh, not entirely sure how am going to cope with today.. still what doesnt kill me will make me stronger and on the plus side my house now smells of fresh laundry drying everywhere

SweetTalkinZombie · 22/10/2009 13:00

OMG Dinky - how are you doing this morning? Hope you have a relatively quiet day at work to help deal with it. Your evening sounded bad enough, but then to be woken up so frequently throughout the night - aaarrrgggh. Sending good sleep vibes for tonight. How's Danny doing today?

Coco LOL at DS and the lampshade . Sam is most excitable when he's a little bit tired and it is deep joy if his big sister decides to lower her standards enough to actually look at him and make eye contact. It really makes his day - and therefore makes mine too!

Littlesez - at the 7 months pregnant!!! Does that mean she'll have 2 babies under 1 year old? I think twins would be easier!!!

Off to get some lunch now - no veggie soup today after yesterday's discomfort.
