LBB - re prawns, I know people who have given their DC cooked prawns at 9/10 months. Personally I hold off on things like shellfish or tuna steaks until over 1 (actually DS1 didnt have his first prawn until he was well over 2) as can have quite high mercury content. If you post on the weaning boards am sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to help.

littleboyblue · 24/10/2009 15:52

mos Love the new name
hope you're feeling a bit better. Must be awful, I have no idea.
dinky Glad Danny's over the worst.
That story about your ds1 is as funny as it is disgusting. It's something I have no doubt Jacob will do at some point.
Re bottles and sterilising, that's exactly like me, I have no idea why I think exactly like you, I just do. I took all bottles away from Jacob at 14 months, but that was more so they'd be free for the new baby than anything else.
Luke is alot more into his milk thanJacob was so it may be a bit trickier for him.
Thanks for the advice on prawns. Me, dp and ds1 like a prawn and rice salad so was thinking of doing that in the week. Maybe I'll just give Luke some chicken instead of prawns. Or maybe turkey as I have some turkey steaks in the freezer......

My head hurts.
Jacob is in a whingy mood today and has done it since the minute he got up. Dp is stacking wooden blocks with the boys at the mo so I can have 10 mins to myself

dinkystinkystein · 24/10/2009 19:49

Glad the story amused you LBB - now the smell has finally shifted I can see the funny side but will be leaving firm instructions for the nanny to check - and bin! - DS1's clothes if Poo strike back again...

Sorry to hear your head is hurting - hope the ache has shifted now. Poor Jacob - is he still under the weather from his bug?

littleboyblue · 24/10/2009 21:02

Sorry dinky but I did have to laugh. With the whole potty training thing, we have had 1 or 2 little poo's in the pants but I have been able to rinse soiled clothes first and remove nasty bits. I do throw away really bad bits though.....have you checked inside your laundry basket to make sure nothing hit the sides?

I'm ok now the kids have gone to bed the constant whinging/crying etc gets to me sometimes, especially on the weekends when I kind of feel I shouldn't do it all on my own.
My mood was made bad as a friend of ours said he'd help dp change the brake pads on the car and then switched his phone off.....if you don't have any intention of doing something, why say you will? Anyway......

elkiedee · 25/10/2009 11:37

I don't sterilise other than bottles for formula - C puts allsorts in his mouth anyway. It's partly because there's so much opportunity for bugs if there are any in the whole process of making up formula. Once I'm using fresh cows milk which is fresh out of the fridge or which we can buy when we're out fresh out of someone else's fridge, I'm not so concerned so long as the bottle is properly washed up.

Ugh dinky at the poo story.

MoS, those kind of anniversaries must feel so hard. Hugs to you.

Cocodrillo · 25/10/2009 16:38

DS's permacold is sounding wheezy this weekend . Better take him to GP in morning. That'll be fun with the two yr old and five yr old in tow. Spect I'll the leave the pharmacy with the obligatory bottle of amoxycillin. He is sounding really chesty tho, so maybe ABs are the best thing.

Hope you have all had good weekends. The only way is up, Dinky.

littlesez · 25/10/2009 17:15

hi guys at my mums with decent internet and grandparents doting on Isobella so have time and patience for mn'ing

Re sterilising i have stopped as i fgured she puts everything and anything in her mouth and lots of it isnt sterile. I still give cooled boiled water though. And wash everyuthing in hot soapy water i even steam mop the floors so she can crawl about without picking up and pointing to all the dirt and fluff which was getting embarassing

I may have to do more at returning to work not for money although hard being skint i am not that arsed BUT the committee are F'ing it up in my absence dont know what to do really.

We had our first projectile vomiting incident yesterday poor bubs has been ill for 4 weeks with colds/cough/throat inf/ boo hoo its awful isnt it.

lets hope all the poorly fab febbers get well soon, xxx

dinkystinkystein · 25/10/2009 19:23

You'd think the only way was up Coco but DS1 - in bed with raging temp - now has suspected swine flu. Waiting on an oncall doctor to come see him to confirm if that is the case. Poor child - he was claiming his leg and tummy were hurting him this morning but otherwise seemed cheerful enough and ate most of his breakfast so mostly ignored it - had friends over for lunch and he barely ate any then curled up on the sofa with a blanket refusing gingerbreadman, icecream and juice which is when I knew something was up. AND he got hit and bitten by our friend's little boy (who is rather a handful) this afternoon while he was feeling rubbish.

Sorry your DS is sounding wheezy Coco - definitely a good idea to get it checked out. Best of luck for the docs tomorrow with all 3 kids. And hope Izzy gets better soon LittleSez - projectile vomitting is really rather spectacular isnt it (though on the plus side hopefully means there is less clearing up of the actual baby to do). Sorry to hear you may need to do more work sooner than you wanted to.

TheHAUNTEDHouseofMirth · 25/10/2009 19:34

Evening all.

Sorry to hear about all the poorly l'il ones. It's that time of year, isn't it?

Just wondering what toys and/or games your babies are enjoying? Mr T seems very bored with everything he has

dinkystinkystein · 25/10/2009 19:38

Danny mostly likes wires - though also loves his stacking cups, DS1's magazines (mostly playing seek and destroy with them ), socks (seriously - the boy can play with a pair of socks for half an hour then starts trying to eat them), anything plastic and tat like that flashes or lights up (DS1's old toy mobile phone is a particular favourite at the moment) and some indoor tennis bats which he uses as a drum with his stacking cups....

TheHAUNTEDHouseofMirth · 25/10/2009 20:00

Yes, Tarran likes anything that belongs to Ellis, cables, and anything he shouldn't really have. He also loves playing with the locks on the front door and gets furious if you carry him through the door without stopping to let him fiddle.

TheHAUNTEDHouseofMirth · 25/10/2009 20:06

Sorry Dinky, didn't see your Swine flu announcement. Am amazed doc is coming out to you, ours would only do it over the phone... DS1 was prescribed Tamiflu but I'd heard the side effects can be bad in littlies and tbh the symptoms weren't that bad. Here's hoping your DS shakes it off quickly.

dinkystinkystein · 25/10/2009 20:18

Thanks THHOM - the on call doc has just been (dont normally do it but playing it careful with little ones) and prescribed tamiflu for DS1 - will see how he goes tonight and start him on it in the morning if he's no better by then (bit worried as he's refusing to have any fluids or food at present).

One thing Danny really does love now he's on the move is for us to set up an assault course for him in the living room with sofa cushions and pillows to crawl over and a nest of tables forming tunnels - keeps him entertained for ages. Oh yes, and he's discovered the joy of removing books and CDs off shelves and strewing them around the house...

littleboyblue · 26/10/2009 06:00

dinky Poor ds1 Hope he recovers soon
thom Luke likes to bash wooden spoons/blocks together. We often put on some music and get the wooden spoons out. He also likes peek-a-boo, I use hand puppets for it. He has a box he likes to put on his head . Oh and he pulls the strangest funny face when I sing row-row-row your boat, and he sits there rocking himself.
dinky How is J today?

MarkStretch · 26/10/2009 09:00

Hello all

Dinky- so sorry to hear about poor old DS1, how is he today?

F likes to pull any cable he can find, especially the one attached to DD's NintendoDS while she's playing it. He also likes to crawl following a noisy ball and will play with DH's I.D. badge from work for hours

Other than that he likes DD's baby doll who he shouts at quite a lot and a penguin he likes to kiss a lot. We haven't really got him lots of mad flashing noisy toys as I figured DH's family will go toy crazy at Christmas therefore saving me the expense!

We have a crate of toys for him in the sitting room and it puzzles me why he never crawls over to it but would rather spend hours looking at an I.D. badge. Weirdo.

DH looked at me puzzled this morning and asked me why I wasn't dressed and ready to take DD to school... Nice to know he's been paying attention to me talking about half term for weeks....

dinkystinkystein · 26/10/2009 12:29

Thanks Markstretch and LBB - DS1's temperature is really high still and he's really listless (not even magical tv is getting any reaction from him) and not eating or drinking. Started the tamiflu this morning - hoping his temperature starts coming down today poor child. Enjoy half term Markstretch -any fun plans with DD?

Danny too desires what he can not have - he's just started opening cupboard doors to find out what's in them (I blame those blasted lift the flap books for giving him ideas)

MarkStretch · 26/10/2009 18:00

Looks like we might be joining you Dinky. DD has come down with a temp of 38 and a sore throat, although not off her food or drink so I am hoping it's just a bug.

Have cancelled our lunch and supper plans for tomorrow visiting friends and family just incase though.

Poor thing looks really flushed and and has been lying on the sofa staring at the TV with a blanket all afternoon.

dinkystinkystein · 26/10/2009 20:13

Oh no Markstretch your poor DD - is horrible seeing them like that. DS1 seems a little better this evening - drinking fluids though already rebelling against taking his meds. Its going to be a looooooooooooong week. Good sign that your DD is still eating and drinking though. Fingers crossed its a 24 hour bug and she's better soon.

Cocodrillo · 26/10/2009 20:25

Dinky the swine flu is short but sharp IME - DD1 came down with it at her 5th birthday party on a Saturday but by Monday was pretty much over it, likewise DS - really very ill for 36-48 hrs then really suddenly virtually better. Hope yours follows a similar pattern. It is nasty when they are so listless and not-themselves - lots of get well wishes going your way - and to your DD MarkStretch.

littleboyblue · 27/10/2009 06:16

MS Hope your dd is a bit better today. Jacob came down with something last thursday, temp of 39.5, looking really flushed and he spent the day asleep on a chair at the childrens centre (we'd gone down in the morning for baby play and it hit him there) but thankfully he was fine the following day. Hope it's the same with your dd, a 24hour thing.
dinky How's ds1?

I can feel a tooth coming through Luke's gum. Hopefully the little monster will stop crying soon!

littleboyblue · 27/10/2009 07:17

Luke's skin has been clear for a week or so now, but flared up again yesterday. It could have either been the plum or the mango chutney.....

katieblirdsnest · 27/10/2009 10:48

it's been ages as i had a really manic week at work last week. didn't get home for bedtime 4 nights in a row! am off for 3 days during half term this week though and having a lovely time with the kids.

just wanted to send get well hugs to all the sick kids. hope they get much better soon.

MarkStretchingRack · 27/10/2009 11:20

Hmmmm temp had gone down by this morning and she's feeling a lot better although not bothered with food so far today and still looks pale and tired despite 11 hours sleep.

We just did some baking and she's gone back to lie on the sofa. Hoping it's just a little bug which will clear and we can enjoy the rest of half term.

elkiedee · 27/10/2009 13:17

Dinky and MS, hope your little ones make a quick recovery.

SweetTalkinZombie · 27/10/2009 14:05

Lovely to "see" you back LBB. Sounds like you are making great progress with the potty training. I think we will try after Christmas, but will probably then chicken out until Easter .

Sorry to hear about sick children. Dinky I think Sam had Danny's bug yesterday!!! 24 hours of vomiting and the rest, the hightlight of which was unzipping Sam's Grobag at midnight revealing a horribly leaked nappy explosion .... I heard it happen from our bedroom!

I was very naughty and had to bundle him off to the CM today because I really had to go to work to get something done. Just phoned though and he's fine. Phew.

Interesting reading about toys. We went to my mums on Sunday, and DD played with a bowl of Pot Pourri for nearly 2 hours . Then she moved onto the net curtains. Sam also likes wooden spoons and my I.D. Badge!!!

Had some distubing news over the weekend - I'll keep it short! My little brother (well he's aged 26 and 6'6") is living in L.A. at the moment working in the entertainment business. He was out for dinner at a posh hotel with his girlfriend and Forrest Whittaker when a scuffle broke out at the table next to them. Steve stood up, then was descended upon by 10 hotel security guards, taken out into a side room and beaten up pretty badly . He's got some nasty injuries and was released from hospital yesterday. A lawyer has been appointed - we're not sure about the reason for the assault, whether it was a case of mistaken identity or racial. He insists he's not got caught up in any drug problems etc. He's very shocked by it all. He's pretty well connected - his best friend is Richard Branson's son and he used to date the Duchess of York's niece and the lawyer reckons he'll be a millionaire after this. What is my family like!!! Always something fun going on. My Dad's writing a book about his chequered history, so I can't wait to read that .

Must get back to work now, been trying to post for the past 2 hours, but people keep wandering behind me!!!
