bumps, the dietician actually recommended soya for A as it's protein rich. I can't see how beans could have hormones in them so i'd say your friend has gotten the wrong end of the stick somewhere and is passing on dodgy info. The only reason soya substitutes are sometimes not recommended is because sometimes kids with milk allergies develope soya allergies too

lol at the no AF.... it's about the only plus side of a baby clamped to your boob constantly alright

bumpsnowjustplump · 15/10/2009 12:33

Thanks for that BRT. I went out the other Saturday night. Both children were in bed. O had a long feed before I went, I had expressed 6oz just in case and I happily went of for my meal out wiht friends. I had to be back by 10 as that is when he wakes for last feed... I got back at half ten to a screaming, hungry baby as he refused to take the bottle.. He then fed every hour that night just to teach me a lesson......

BloodRedTulips · 15/10/2009 12:40

sounds like A... he takes his cup for me happily but won't go near it when dp tries.

he'll have to lump it on monday as dd is back at the hospital to have her cast removed/changed and i'll need my hands free for her but the last day when i left him home i came back to a very stressed dp and a very thirsty baby after 5 hours so i'm not holding my breathe about him taking it this time

bumpsnowjustplump · 15/10/2009 12:42

I have a TT cup that he has water in but he takes a gulp and then lets it run down his chin and all down himself so havent tried milk in it.

SweetTalkinZombie · 15/10/2009 12:58

Afternoon all - actually got proper work to do today instead of just pretending - oh well, I suppose I am getting paid for it!

Bumps - I was advised not to give Sam soya on a long term basis, not only because of the allergy risk, but because it contains phytoestrogens (not sure if spelt correctly) and the jury is out on the possible effects on boys. I think that it's more of a concern if soya is the sole form of nutrition. Lots of different (professional) opinions on it though - as ever!!

Just out for lunch - one of the plus points of being back at work !

bumpsnowjustplump · 15/10/2009 13:42

We are introducing dairy next week as he will be 8 months then so it is not long term, it will only be two months.. If he has a reaction to dairy then I will have to see gp about about an alternative.

mumofsatan · 15/10/2009 13:48

is H the only baby with no teeth?

bumpsnowjustplump · 15/10/2009 13:53

No Owen has no teeth either. He can walk around the room holding onto something but he has no teeth and no hair.... It looks wrong..

mumofsatan · 15/10/2009 14:03

H is just like that. He has been commando crawling for 2 months, pulls himself up all the time and grins at me like a gummy bear. He's had all the signs of teething for months but they just aren't there

BloodRedTulips · 15/10/2009 14:45

4 teeth here, and he walks on hands and feet and stands holding furniture (and keeps trying to do no hands and concussing himself!)

between teeth and hair he doesn't look much like a baby anymore, someone at the school gates looked at him in the buggy and said in a really shocked voice 'that's not the baby is it? i thought it was your older boy for a minute!'

TheHAUNTEDHouseofMirth · 15/10/2009 16:31

6 teeth here! No crawling he gets up on all fours rocks backwards and forwards then collapses in an angry heap or forgets what he's supposed to be doing and starts doing yoga instead (mainly downward facing dog!) though he can go right across the living room using a rather bizarre backwards yogic flying technique. He loves standing up and will walk holding your hands. Very chatty, which is lovely and can clap and wave.

Bet he's the only one who's still not eating anything though! Am not looking forward to his 8 month check. Think I will just lie to HV...

BloodRedTulips · 15/10/2009 16:52

THOM, A only really started eating about 2 weeks ago and it's still hit or miss whether he'll eat at any given meal... he does love food, but never more than a bite or two twice a day.

lying to the HV is always a sanity saving tactic though that said i doubt they'd say much, the hospital couldn't have cared less that he wasn't eating on the grounds that 'He looks healthy and well fed so he's obviously getting it somewhere' Yes, from me, 20 feeds or more a day from me.... that's why i'm thin and he's fat.... he's devouring me!

TheHAUNTEDHouseofMirth · 15/10/2009 18:54

And that's why I'm thinking of dressing Tarran up as a leach for halloween...

BloodRedTulips · 16/10/2009 09:44

i'm a new woman, A slept from 7.30 to 11.45 and then from 12 to 6 we were so well rested we got up at 7am! i could get used to this but i'm sure he'll be back to his usual antics tonight

loving the leech costume idea THOM... i'm very tempted to dress A as a vampire

dinkystinkystein · 16/10/2009 11:06

Hello all. Sorry not been on for a couple of days - work has been crazy and as it looks set to continue that way for the forseeable future I have resolved to make some MN time in the day!

BRT - Hurrah for sleep. Am so happy for you. Here's hoping A's sleeping has finally turned a corner for you. Danny seems, slowly, to be getting better with his sleep and it makes such a huge difference to your day doesnt it when you feel rested!

THOM - liking your new halloween name! We have 2 teeth here with Danny and he especially likes biting me with them when he doesnt feel like a morning BF - ouch doesnt even begin to describe it. Does anyone else's baby reject morning milk??? I suspect its because he's getting his milk in the night (one or two feeds during the night on good nights - I try not to feed after 4am though as I'd much prefer he have a good bf when he gets up between 6 and 7). Rather thankful he doesnt have more though can feel 2 canines on their way and his sleep is going out the window again which is generally a sign that teeth are on the way. DS1 used to the downward dog pose - I think its an instinctive way of strengthening their legs. Love the image of yogic flying. Danny crawls everywhere but not bothered about walking yet though we have lowered the cot as he's starting to pull up on things so can only be a matter of time. Unlike Mr T he loves food except when teething when he throws the food at us with an expression of immense disdain - but then he is an orally fixated child who will put anything - stones, dirt, leaves, my shoes, you name it - in his mouth to explore and has been known to mug older children and adults for food.... Never had it with DS1 - who wasnt much bothered by food - so is a bit of an experience having to mine sweep the floor before letting Danny in or out of a room. I dont think they do 8 month checks round my neck of the wood -certainly never told about them - as our HVs are so rubbish I'm not really sure I'd bother about what their check says anyway.

MOS - loving the new name. Sorry to hear you got a bashing on another board - that's horrible. I just dont understand why some people are like that. Please try not to take it personally - they dont know you or yours and were clearly just out to get someone that day - and stick on this board with us nice people Hope H stops being such a velcro baby soon and you manage to retain your sanity until DH comes back. Did your nanny ever turn up again? Glad to hear the classes are going well - you never know, may be the start of a new baby signing empire

Bumps - hope O's sleeping is taking a turn for the better too and that both your little ones are improving healthwise. We have discovered that Danny will tolerate MAM Ultivent teats in bottles (will take 4 oz or so with no or minimal complaining during the day) so may be worth trying those if you're trying to give O an occasional bottle. Danny knows how to use a sippy cup - having finally stopped concussing himself with it - but is going through a phase of sucking to spit out (particularly as it makes DS1 laugh) so we're sticking to bottles for his milk for the forseeable future.

Quick question to those of you with older kids - since starting nursery a couple of weeks ago DS1's behaviour has deteriorated at home and he has started tantrumming loands and biting (random child in playground, our nanny, Danny) when he doesnt get his way - which he has never done before. We come down on this quite hard. Is this something your kids did when they started preschool/school? I suspect it may be because he is so tired from his morning at preschool - and also from dropping his lunchtime naps - but wondered if anyone else's kids had gone through this...

dinkystinkystein · 16/10/2009 11:09

ps Rosie - sorry to hear your solicitors are being rubbish. Hope they pull their socks up and sort out your purchase - all you can do is call them up 10 times a day and nag them to move on with it - they will then do the work to get rid of you (what I had to do with my sister's solicitor when she was buying her flat) asap! Danny gets scared by things too - especially when DS1 is pretending to be a monster, it absolutely terrifies the poor baby - I think at 8 months babies actually take in alot more than we often give them credit for.

MarkStretch · 16/10/2009 12:27

Sorry I've been crap at keeping up. Have had my mum over from France and been really busy.

Good news is I saw the cardiologist on Weds and following ECG's and a heart echo I have been given a clean bill of health. It appears I 'just have more electrical activity than others', that'll explain the frizzy hair then

Oh and a BFN from me this month.

dinkystinkystein · 16/10/2009 13:25

Yay Markstretch re the clean bill of health sign off. What's a BFN???

Cocodrillo · 16/10/2009 14:33

is a neg preg test, dinky

dinkystinkystein · 16/10/2009 14:44

thanks Coco - mind clearly in another place entirely...

dinkystinkystein · 16/10/2009 16:45

[hmmm] [hmmm]

Love it when the smileys appear!

swampster · 16/10/2009 19:13

...

BloodRedTulips · 16/10/2009 19:31

dinky, both my older two went a bit nutty after starting playschool... ds1 is a month and a half in and it's still rough, he's either so shattered he's hysterical and falls asleep or he's hyper and very aggressive. great fun

katieblirdsnest · 16/10/2009 20:04

dinky yes there are always changes in behaviour when dd has a big change in her life and generally they pass fairly quickly. (you know the mantra!). earlier this week dd was being so rude to our nanny and i, not to dp of course, and i was starting to do that 'oh no, she's changed, she's picked up bad behaviour' over thinking. and the last 2 days she's been beautifully behaved and back to normal.

i think sometimes its partly due to having to be immersed in rules and systems at pre-school/school and when they come out they want to be free of the rules and have control. i'm trying to remember to pick my battles with her so she can feel she has more control.

stz sorry to hear you're finding it so tough. i've definitely found it harder but initial reservations that ds was not so close to me have passed and things are settling down. having dd say 'sorry' must be so heartbreaking for you.

we had first parent's evening last night. i felt so grown up! it went very well and discovered that despite my concerns dd is well liked and well behaved.

no teeth for ds either but i predict he'll have properly cracked crawling this weekend rather than wriggling his way backwards round the room.

hope everyone has a good weekend.

bumpsnowjustplump · 16/10/2009 20:08

Evening all. I have had a lovely day today. Went to toddler group this morning and then went to Leeds castle for the afternoon... Both the children were so well behaved and lovely and are now both asleep.

Sorry but BFN MS but roll on next month.

DS sorry work is so busy hope you have a nice restful weekend...

MOS when are you back? I still owe you lunch..
