Morning all!

norash, have added Millie, only 1 photo as I need to take more. I just loved the photos of Keiran, he looks like such a little character esp the one in the bucket! Its so nice looking at all the march babies, they are very cute or are we a little biased

misdee, I do have the bottles and the Haberman feeder teats, but you can use any standard neck bottles and teats if you want. email me to let me know!

bonym · 26/05/2005 08:24

Good morning! Well so much for my plans! Dream feed worked fine at 10.45pm but instead of sleeping for the expected 7 hours, Grace woke after only 5 and then filled her nappy! Fed, took a little while to go back to sleep and then woke again at 7am and has been awake ever since. Don't know if it was just the fact that she needed to poo that woke her the first time so may try again tonight.
DD1 is off school today with a sore throat so my plans for seeing friends and going to new mums and babies group are down the pan! Oh well...

popsycal · 26/05/2005 09:17

Hi everyone,
Dylan is helping this morning, he's fascinated with me typing.
Answers to questions -

  1. we live in cheshire
  2. N o period as such because we are still bleeding post birth, long story but had a morbidly adherent placenta and after section some placenta was left behind, had d & c when dylan was 7 weeks but consultant still couldnt remove all without danger of serious haemorrhage and hysterectomy, so still some bleeding which should resolve over next few months.
  3. vet nurse, hoping to return p/t in sept.
  4. disposables
norash · 26/05/2005 10:51

Morning all,

Had a better night yesterday and I am a happy Mummy this morning . Kieran is asleep even now .

Oh girly MIllie looks like such a lovely baby she is so cute. I think that all our babies are lovely.

Kieran love the 'Tummy Tub' (the bucket). He hates bathing in a normal bath coz he gets cold, the tummy tub keeps them warm for longer and is supposed to simulate the womb, he kicks, splashes and generally makes a lots of movement.

bonym · 26/05/2005 11:18

norash - glad to hear you had a better night.

Sorry things were not so good for you last night popsy - makes me realise I have absolutely nothing to complain about with Grace's sleeping habits - I will slink off with my tail between my legs before I get lynched...

bonym · 26/05/2005 11:19

BTW - has anyone managed to get any sort of routine going yet? Or see any real pattern developing in their lo's sleeps and feeds?

popsycal · 26/05/2005 13:15

we have a vague-ish pattern believe it or not
wake around 7 and feed. might have a bit more after i have sorted ds1s brekkie. depending on the day, short nap bewteen around 8:30 or 9ish. wakews and feeds around 9:30. alert for a bit. sleeps around 11 or 12ish hopefully for amn hour or so at least
wakes and feeds
it then goes a bit pear shaped depending on length of sleep but he has another feed and sleep at some point then bed bewteen 7 and 8:30 with a feed
normally akes 10/11 ish. 1/2 ish and 4/5 ish for a feed

Pidge · 26/05/2005 16:44

We have a kind of routine - at night Iris goes down around 7pm, feeds at 10pm, then usually at 2ish, 4ish onwards on and off the boob in bed with me, then 8am feed. 2 hours after getting up she'll have an hour's nap, so that's from 9am to 10ish. After that it's a bit hit and miss, but the general rule is that she's only up for an hour and a half to two hours before needing a nap of half an hour to an hour.

I work in IT as a progammer, and want to return to that part-time when Iris is 10 months.

jambot · 26/05/2005 18:36

Lauren's routine is fairly established, but I think it's easier for me because she's not on the breast. Feeds at 7:am, short nap between 9 and 10 (although she only goes down for 20 mins/ half an hour - refuses to go longer. Feed at 11. Sleeps from 11:30/12:00 to 2:30/3:00. Another 'power nap' of 20 mins at about 5ish. Bath at 6. Bottle and bed for 6:45/7:00. She was sleeping though until 2:30/3:30 before waking for her bottle, but the last six nights she has woken at 12:00 wanting her bottle, then very restless, waking up at about 4:30/5:00. Do manage to get her back to sleep until about 7:00, but can't figure out what's going on with her. She's never done this until now. Going to the clinic tomorrow and the midwife is brilliant with routine and sleep advice. Will see if she has any ideas. Someone suggested it's a growth spurt, but she doesn't seem particularly hungry during the day - in fact the opposite and is even leaving the dregs of her bottle, which is unheard of.
My husband and I have a publishing business that we run from offices at home. We publish an architectural magazine and a home improvement guide.

shalaa · 26/05/2005 18:40

Derby

No period

Really don't want to go back to work, money however dictates otherwise.

We use disposables

deegward · 26/05/2005 18:44

Ooooh jsut had a look in here as I have two March babies,. d1 now 5 and ds2 now 2. I have to say its one of the best times to have a baby, and I glad that you all seem to be enjoying it. March babies rule

jambot · 26/05/2005 18:54

How much time are your little ones spending on their tummies? I try to do some 'tummy time' every morning but Lauren's not really keen. Have to do it when she's nice and alert because if she's vaguely tired she moans like mad. She only manages a few minutes, but think I should up it a bit.

3mummy · 26/05/2005 19:31

Hi everyone, Wow it got busy on here!! I've just spent 10mins reading and catching up on all your posts!

Will answer questions first; Live in staffordshire, no period yet, use disposables, and am SAHM (luckily DH earns enuff - just!!). We got married just before I turned 21 and had DD1 16mths after that (we were planning babies on our honeymoon!! ), and we moved up the country when I was newly pregnant with DD1, so I never really "trained" for anything specific job wise - So I was an Admin Assistant, and an assistant to our warehouse manager. I always wanted to be a nurse/midwife and fully intend to go to uni when Faith is at school. For now though I love being at home with my girls and wouldn't have it any other way..... couldn't afford the childcare costs ha, ha!

I am still breastfeeding and really enjoying it, Faith has a mad few days every now and then, and I put these down to growth spurts. Other than that she's pretty much in a routine because she has to fit around the other two girls. In a morning she wakes anytime between 4 and 6am, I feed her then feed again at 8am if she woke at 4 or 5, if not wait til I get back from school run, then feed either 11am or 12:30pm (have to pick DD2 up from preschool at 12noon) then feed either 3pm or 4pm (fit it around getting DD1 from school at 3:30pm) then feed again about 7pm ish, bottle feed somewhere between 9:30 and 11pm put her in cot for the night - usually sleeps til next morning.

So she's pretty good really - am still demand feeding but she seems to go roughly 3hours between feeds and has one long sleep at night. I appreciate how very lucky I am - I feel immensely blessed in many ways. I shall send sleep vibes to all those who need them - especially popsy and norash !!

ZoeC · 26/05/2005 20:16

Ok - routine. Hmm, need to think about this. Still exclusively breastfeeding - I suppose I usually feed her in bed around 7/7.30ish and leave her sleeping while I get dd1 up. Will then usually be going out so may get a quick feed in around 9am before going out, if not she'll doze then feed around 10/11am ish, I then feed her around noon/1am. She needs a good sleep in the afternoon (can be hard to get her to sleep though) and will feed around 3.30pm/4pm. Bathtime is 6.30, I feed her after and put her down awake to go to sleep (she likes us to potter around but not actually do anything for her). Sleep by 7.30. Next feed can be anything from 11.30 earliest to 2.30am at the best, then 2.5/3 hourly in the night, increasing in frequency towards morning but I think that's because after the 2.30am feed she stays in with us (I fall asleep feeding her) so it's all a little too convenient .

So looking at that, a routine is beginning to sort itself out. Not sure I can hope for better on bf alone tbh. I am consciously trying to feed less - I was guilty of trying to feed everytime she cried when it's not always what she wants - she'll take it but be sick.

misdee · 26/05/2005 20:28

routine?

heh.

popsycal · 27/05/2005 09:02

norash · 27/05/2005 09:38

Routine? Whats that?

Leogaela · 27/05/2005 10:32

Also not much of a routine. I tried, but just found it too restrictive and got stressed with it.
Niklas usually manages to go about 7 hours after his last feed at night, but this tends to be around 7pm so wakes up around 3. Last few nights we have either been home late or out so then the last feed is later and he has been waking up between 5 and 6, so I have had a couple of fairly good nights sleep ! Still not sure about getting him up at 11 to feed as I worry he won't go back to sleep again.

Last night he screamed the place down when it was time to go to bed. We did our best to leave him to scream a bit as he was so tired, and eventually he did calm down and fell asleep.

Norash, I guess Kieran has got day and night mixed up! I hope he rights himself again very quickly. Is his room dark at night? Do you take him out a lot during the day? I also thought he looked really cute in the bath!

Popsycal - htinking again about your problem. are you feeding Harry everytime he wakes up? Maybe trying to just settle him down again to sleep if he wakes up too often could be an idea. I also don't like co-sleeping.

I too am only breastfeeding. My plan was to get Niklas to take a bottle once a day, but it doesn't seem to be working very well. I am sorry to say this for anyone that wanted to bf and isn't able, but I really DO NOT enjoy bfeeding. I have big debates with myself about stopping, but the big positive (apart from health for baby) is not to have to prepare anything for a feed, so the convenience wins over everytime . And its not for long and should get easier in anohter couple of months when we can start giving Niklas solids.

Deegward is right! March (or end feb in my case!) is a great time to have a baby, the sun is shining and this is only the beginning of the summer! still have 4 months to go! If I had my maternity leave in the winter I don't know what I woiuld have done with myself!

popsycal · 27/05/2005 10:34

leogaela - i do usually feed him and that i think i the problem...but tonight....its stricter mummy time

Cristina7 · 27/05/2005 11:06

Hi all. In answer to questions:

  1. London (Wimbledon)

  2. no and hope it'll stay away for a long time

  3. cloth (Tots Bots) and disposables. Yesterday was the first full day in cloth and last night was the first night in cloth. I've even handwashed a couple (only peed) and I have them drying in the sun outside.

  4. medical doctor working in eye research at the moment. I was on full pay for the first 9 weeks, then on half-pay for another 18 weeks, which will get me to September. Then I think I'll take another 6 months unpaid and go back to work next March.

Sylvia is breastfed on demand. She's 12 weeks and weighs 5.12 kg (I think that's 11lb 4oz). No routine yet but I can kind of see a pattern emerging. I keep meaning to write down the times she naturally goes to sleep etc so I can then work around them as I had intended to do my PhD while on maternity leave. She tends to have her long naps in the morning, so that's the time I should be getting my books out, only I don't quite feel like it so early in the day.

I've just emailed Popsy for the photo link, I can't wait to see all these gorgeous babies.

shalaa · 27/05/2005 12:56

Well Caleb now has baby eczema, a bad cough and has almost lost his voice! Poor little man, have some cream for his head.

Regarding tummy time, try rolling a towel or folding a pillow and leaning your baby over it so that their arms and legs are on the ground. Caleb loves this, if we just put him on his stomach he hates it.

shalaa · 27/05/2005 13:02

Caleb is now added to photobucket! Am cooing over all the babies, there so gorgeous

jambot · 27/05/2005 16:33

Lauren was at the clinic today. Now weighs 6.1kgs and is 62 cm at 11 weeks. Her reflex, that I had under control with a special formula, is rearing its ugly head again and she may have to go on medication. Sh's started throwing up her feed a bit and is uncomfortable in her sleep - due to acid build up.
She slept through from 6:45 to 4:am - her longest stretch yet. Got very excited when I peered at the clock. Especially as she had been doing some funny things with her sleep the last week. Midwife reckoned it was a growth spurt. I see a wonderful private midwife. I call her my own 'baby whisperer' as she is fantastically knowledgeable about all things baby and especially sleep problems and routines. The only reason Lauren is already on a pretty solid routine is because of her.
