question 3. cloth or dispoable nappies?

we like cloth.

OP posts:
jambot · 25/05/2005 19:42

Disposable.Pampers. Don't really have the range of cloth nappies in SA that you do in the UK. And to be honest, I'm just lazy.

popsycal · 25/05/2005 19:49
  1. cloth but only just. Got interested just as ds1 was coming out of nappies. Then got ds1 a cloth night nappy before ds2 was born. DS2 was in disposables to start with while I found my feet - he has now been in reusables for about 4 weeks and we are still building up our collection much easier than I thought it would be
jambot · 25/05/2005 19:52

Our winter is just round the corner and it's getting pretty cold, by Cape Town standards. Very chilly tonight. Hope Lauren is warm enough. We don't have central heating and when I left the heater on in her room the other night she got all conjested. Have bought one of those air humidifiers. Has anyone ever used one?

Pidge · 25/05/2005 20:07

jambot - Iris can't manage more than 2 hours awake, and really after an hour or an hour and a half she is already pooped and has to be cuddled and rocked.

popsycal - my work plan is to go back in jan when Iris will be 10 months. Seems a lifetime away! I went back 3 days per week when my older dd was 6 months and it nearly broke my heart. So I wanted longer off this time.

London, no and disposables (Moltex eco-friendly), but have cloth ready to go from 3 months.

Now going back to doing some knitting in front of the Champions League final! I have a jumper project for when Iris is 1-2, but am only on about row 20 of it!

Hi all,

so nice to hear all the babies coming on and settling more

Rebecca has been asleep since 7.30 . I'm going to bath her every night with dd1, feed her and into bed so she gets used to the routine. She then wakes around 1am or 2am unless we disturb her going to bed. Going to get her cot ready in her room this weekend so she can sleep in there for the first stretch and doesn't get disturbed. After night feeds she generally stays in with us anyhow, and that won't change most likely.

I'm near leicester (from Suffolk originally), no period (some spotting today after mirena fitting) and cloth fully from birth .

Rebecca is so much more alert, looking around at everything and making it hard to get her to sleep in the day. She adores her big sister (despite the abuse she gets from her) and saves her biggest and best smiles for her, which is lovely. I've found I have to leave her to grumble to sleep - she gets worse when held but can settle herself if given the chance.

ZoeC · 25/05/2005 20:54

Oh yes, work wise - I work 6pm - 10pm anyway since having dd1 so I will go back, just not exactly sure when. Rebecca now will not take a bottle of ebm (so bang goes my chance of seeing star wars ), so i'm not sure how it'll work. I definately won't go back until October at the earliest, but I could stay off until January which is tempting barring the fact I'll be broke. If dh can support me in pocket money for a bit, I may do it.

popsycal · 25/05/2005 21:08

question 4) if you work, what do you do,...and if you are a SAHM, what did you do before kids?

my answer 4) teacher

Leogaela · 25/05/2005 21:14

I am also staying off work until October (taking 4 months unpaid leave) and then going back 60%. I should have started back at work already , but how can oyu put a baby in day care when it can't even sit up, he is just too defenseless! Couldn't imagine it and I am not ready. I'm not that happy with my job situation at the moment either (good job, but bad politics) and am thinking about looking for something else before I go back or soon after.

I had a period about 5/6 weeks after Niklas was born, but nothing since then.

Zurich, Switzerland (originally from Norfolk but lived a 10 years in london before coming here)

Disposables - we 'officially' have access to a washing machine for 2 days in every 3 weeks so until we move to in October we have no choice.

Same with the bad thoughts and dreams, although its getting better. I had a real problem for a while and was scared of loving Niklas so much. I also cried about it. I also get really paranoid of doing somehting that hurts him, like falling over when I carry him, or him rolling off our bed when we are asleep (one reason I can't deal with co-sleeping).

Leogaela · 25/05/2005 21:17

i work in IT as a business analyst (working for a bank), but studied psychology ! Keep thinking about what else I could do - a small business that fits in with all the things I want to do with Niklas.

ZoeC · 25/05/2005 21:20

Work - currently work in the call centre at Next Directory (Leicester, not Mumbai ), before dd1 I was a Recruitment Consultant

bonym · 25/05/2005 21:25

Hi everyone - loads of posts to catch up on!
Questions - 1. Cardiff, 2. No, 3. Moltex disposables (snap Pidge!) - did buy a trial Tots Bots nappy which I am ashamed to say I have only tried once because (a) it made Grace's bum HUGE and her clothes didn't fit well and (b) just seemed to be soaking very quickly. I know this are both really feeble reasons not to persevere and may well try again a bit later on.

As far as work is concerned, I am intially going to take 12mths off but tbh I am so enjoying being at home that at the moment I don't think I will go back at all. My boss has been brilliant and said that I can go back whenever I want (even if that's 3 years hence!) and he will find a job for me, but I was atually starting to get bored before I left so if and when I do decide I want to work again I may re-train for something different. I went back when dd1 was 6mths and so this is the first time I have been home for her and she and I are both enjoying it. We're very fortunate in that dh earns enough for me not to have to work.

Very sorry to hear that you may be getting PND 3mummy - hope things don't get any worse.

How are things with you Misdee?

Popsy - we are still breastfeeding (and no plans to stop!) and Grace is still feeding roughly every 2hours during the day (sometimes less!). However she tends to have one long sleep during the day of up to 4 hours.

Welcome back Tamula - looks as though Ava is going to be a tall girl! Grace measured 60cm at her 8 week check which puts her on the 98th percentile.

Well, have decided that it's about time we tried to get Grace into some sort of routine in the evenings so tonight we are trying the following: Bathed her with dd1 at 7pm and got her into nightclothes. Dh took her downstairs while I read dd1 her bedtime story and then when she started to get a bit grouchy (7.45pm) I took her upstairs, fed her and then put her to bed. She was awake but had her dummy. The plan is now to leave her sleep and try to give her a dream feed when we go to bed at about 11pm and then she will hopefully sleep until 6-ish (she usually does a 7hour stretch after her last feed of the night). Tried the dream feed for the first time 2 nights ago as she had fallen asleep downstairs at about 8pm, and it worked like a dream (excuse the pun). Tried again last night but couldn't get her to latch on as she was so soundly asleep - may have been because she fell asleep later (about 9.30pm) so wasn't really hungry. Anyway, so far, so good as she is still asleep - she woke about 40 mins ago but dh went up and put her dummy back in her mouth and she went straight back to sleep again. Fingers crossed.
