Here we are: the thread that will see our LO's first birhtday...

OP posts:

VLG - find a mirror for the sling photo.

I'm with you with the copying too. I was putting the mushroom stalks in the compost the other day, and M started picking up the whole mushrooms and putting them in. She tries to get dressed, puts clothes in the dirty washing and I get her to help me feed the pets (actually she does this independently) and load the washing machine.

She tries to help me lasd and unload the dishwasher - with ummm interesting consequences

Another thread title could be:

'I want to be like mummy!'

Meglet · 03/10/2009 20:29

just popping in to see if digi is around as it's X-factor night!

scoots off to facebook to see if she's on there........

(now I sound like a stalker!)

CarrieBo · 03/10/2009 21:49

Goooooooooo DGSis! STOP PRESS
the thing we thought would never happen has happened...DS CRAWLED!! Its a slightly unusual sytle, rather than doing alternate legs he just sort of wiggles at the waist to achieve the desired movement, but it works. He's only crawled to get to a particular thing he wants, it doesn't seem to have ocurred to him to go all round the room/into another room/cause mayhem. Maybe he's saving that for tomorrow.

Went to an NCT sale today, didn't get as much as i'd hoped, and having gone without children found myself taking a friend's LO off for cake and juice while his mum shopped. Was a bit thrown to be honest as at the entrance desk they had a photo of my friend who recently died, and a collection tin for Macmillan. She had been an active member of the NCT and I had thought 'usually she'd be taking the money on the door' but it never crossed my mind i'd be faced with a big picture of her.

Ds said 'no' very clearly yesterday, and his animal impressions are coming along nicely! I loved the thread title that was something like 'I've got an opinion and I'm not afraid to share it' or whatever it was - sorry on previous page and I don't want to lose this message!

Ponymum · 04/10/2009 12:56

carriebo That would have been a bit of a shock to see your friend's photo. Hope you are OK. And woo hoo on DS's crawling.

No luck on the return of the camera. The previous photos had been downloaded, but everything from the start of the holiday is lost. We were SOO looking forward to showing DD the photos as she won't remember this holiday.

On the subject of 'No' and Copying Mummy - my friend whose son is a bit older than DD told me that once when she asked him to do something he turned to her and wagged his finger and said (in a very stern voice) 'I said NO!'. She just fell about laughing. How cute! But also terrifying...

Meglet · 04/10/2009 20:53

where is everyone today?

DD has started frowning. I must try and get a photo of her doing it, I think she has got it from me .

Hopefully · 05/10/2009 09:18

Meglet T was practically born frowning. In every single photo of the first couple of days he looks deeply pissed off to be out in the world, and he's still a frowner now.

Urgh, have to find somewhere to stay on thursday night in london. Was going to splash out on a nice hotel as am without baby, but it just seems so indulgent. Any cheapy not-too-hideous hotels within a reasonable taxi ride of park lane? Am putting feelers out to family, but no joy yet...

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 05/10/2009 10:47

I know nothing of London hotels, sorry Hopefully! I do think you should treat yourself though

GO DIGI's sister! They are amazing. I LOVED the Spanish rap, it was great.

I was a volunteer out our local NCT sale yesterday. I was bloody knackered yesterday evening and still am today

VirginiaLoveGlove · 05/10/2009 14:57

there is a great small hotel in Lancaster gate where the ABM had its conference a couple years ago. It wasn't expensive, smallish good food. I didn't stay there but others at the conference did and liked it. will try to remember the details.

VirginiaLoveGlove · 05/10/2009 15:00

Hope you feel better soon, MoveIt. I took off work today with the lurgy. I spent most of today tidying up as was poorly all weekend too. I could not face cleaning as well as looking after the girls with DH away at work.

I plan to brave the Nearly New Sale in Durham city on the 25th. DD1 was a spring baby and dd2 a Fall one so I will need a winter coat for dd2. I do not intend to buy a new one.

she also needs a few warm tops and bottoms since she goes to nursery and gets mucky now.

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 05/10/2009 15:47

I'm fine thanks Foxy, just bloody knackered!!

Hope you feel better soon. Is dh around to help?

There were loads of winter coats at our sale and most of them spotless too as little uns just don't get the wear out of them.

I did laugh at some of the crap people tried (and failed) to sell though. Some of the clothes looked like something I would have been put in in the 70's

Pacita · 05/10/2009 16:21

Damn, hopefully, I would have been delighted to have you over on Thursday, but that's exactly the day my parents arrive from Spain to celebrate Diego's birthday, so they are taking over the guest room.

You could try googling one of the hotels in Bayswater. They are walking distance from park lane and some are quite reasonable...

Diego is being a pest today, and the weather is rubbish. Cannot bear the thought of going out in the rain, but we are both slowly going mad indoors.

DG, Graziella and her mates are by far the most original and genuine act. They SO deserve to win. Honestly, I can't believe the amount of Whitney Houston style lip quivering that goes on in that show. It's cringey.

OP posts:
Pacita · 05/10/2009 21:40

We really need to be thinking about that new thread. How about "One small step for a LO, one giant leap for mumkind"

OP posts:
Meglet · 05/10/2009 22:10

pacita a vote from me for the new title suggestion.

We had 3 steps today! DD looks so thrilled when she does it .

Ponymum · 06/10/2009 11:22

I did like the thread name someone suggested a couple of pages ago, I think it was "The one where they learn to say no!"

We are safely back home - but the trip back was not as easy as the one out.

Her new game is singing Baa baa black sheep. I sing it to her and she sings baa baa baa in a singy voice to make me sing it again! Oh, and she can open cupboards now.

ninja · 06/10/2009 12:08

M opens cupboards (most have child locks on now) and more worryingly screw top container, my moisturiser isn't safe

M's had a cold and a temperature and has been waking 4 or 5 times a night . I'm very tired but it's quite nice getting so many more cuddles

Sunshinemummified · 06/10/2009 12:20

Hopefully there is something like a Holiday Inn Express at City Hall which isn't too far and is pretty reasonable.

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 06/10/2009 12:26

I like both the one step for and saying no thread titles.

We are currently in the middle of project sleep at the mo. Over the past week M has started to wake up at 5.30am which is just TOOOOOOOOOOO early.

So starting yesterday I am limiting his daytime sleep, (he was still sleeping for anything upto 3.5 hours in the day - 2 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the avo.)

It worked as he woke up at 6.45 this morning, hopefully it wasn't a fluke and he'll be back to sleeping from 7-7.

Watch this space ..................

VirginiaLoveGlove · 06/10/2009 14:17

I am still home with the lurgy.

out of boredom procrastination I started this thread on MN. I thought I'd fill you lot in.

I think I will just leave things and do as someone suggests. Send a picture of dd2 on her birthday. Oh, it hasn't occurred to me to mention that she forgot dd1's too. She said after the fact that she had a card and some presents but nothing ever arrived. We live an hour and a quarter away from MIL.

DebiTheScot · 06/10/2009 18:27

virginialoveglove I think that's a good idea too, it does seem like it wasn't just an accident if she forgot dd1's too.

Good luck for tonight ILTQITI. We got a long lie till 7.50am this morn but only coz we were up with ds2 for an hour at 4am. He seems to have thrush in his mouth (wouldn't show the doc properly but he thinks that's what it is) and is also teething so one of them was obviously bugging him.

Went to see our house again today so ds1 could see it. Still can't quite believe it's ours (well hopefully it will be). There was 7 viewings lined up for Saturday and when the EA got to work on Monday he had messages form 18 people who wanted to view it!

notcitrus · 06/10/2009 21:56

Hoping the end of the lurgy is in sight - A slept all last night! I think he was complaining his grobag was too small as I put him in a larger one last night. He's loving the local climbing frame but at nursery they had 'jelly play' and he's cautious about touching things, so just kept poking one finger in!

Might brave the NCT sale next weekend to get A some wet weather gear - wellies aren't much use if you can't walk!

Think we have a plan for Christmas - up North to pregnant SIL early Dec, then all our parents here for Christmas. That way we don't have to drive in the rush, and I'll have all the comforts of home for Christmas. Like a well-stocked booze cabinet.

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 07/10/2009 08:36

Sounds like a good plan for Christmas NC There were lots of waterproof all-in-ones at our NCT sale, hopefully you'll get a bargain.

I hope your ds had a better night last night debi. How very exciting about your new house! Is it very far from were you are now?

Our never ending extension is still rolling on. All of the windows and doors are in and plasterboard is going up upstairs. There may even be some plaster on the boards this week - hurrah! DH is here for a few days with his men so lots of tea and biscuits are being consumed!

Oh, and last night went well. M slept from 7-7, so fingers crossed I've made the right decision with his daytime sleep.

Kagey · 07/10/2009 18:27

Miserable day here. DD dropped off at nursery this morning by DH and was a little clingy but fine. I then got a call to say she had a temp and could they give her calpol. Wierd thing is it's ranged from 36.4 to 39, and she has been hot and then shivery. When I got her home it was back down to 36.8 and she has not had calpol since midday. She is asleep at the mo and temp is 37.2.

DH says he is hot and cold too - virus maybe? I am hoping it's not anything else. Keeping E off of nursery tomorrow and instead with MIL and if temp still up and down a trip to the nice GP. Any thoughts?

Awake again, better dash

DebiTheScot · 07/10/2009 20:14

Hope your dd is better in the morning Kagey.

DS2 was awake and getting calpol forced into him again last night. Still don't know for sure what's bugging him but if it's teeth I wish they'd hurry up and come through. he's not had any new ones for 4 months now.

He had his MMR today, seems to be totally un-bothered by it but no doubt at 4am he'll change his mind.

ILTQITI Our new house is less than a mile away in a straight line. We're currently just on the edge of the town centre (of a small town) and are moving to the opposite edge of the town centre. Wanted to go to a slightly further out area but houses just aren't coming up there so have taken a slight compromise on location to get a lovely house.

VirginiaLoveGlove · 07/10/2009 20:40

DD1 has been asking to take a pack lunch to school the last couple of weeks. She asked first for a Dr Who lunchbox. She is scared of Dr Who but nevermind that. Today we engaged in what would be in the lunchbox. (I prefer school dinners because they are hot, healthy, she eats a more varied diet without me nagging and it is free! Co Durham is a pilot area for some scheme.) She suggested chips first. then crisps.

I said, 'what about vegetables?'
she said no.
I said 'but you need healthy things in a pack lunch'.
She said no, you need 'more healthier things' (ie, like chips and cwips - her word.)
I said,'those are not healthy'.
Cue big sigh and roll eyes, 'mummy sometimes you talk crazy.'

Latest news on dd2 or should I say, Alice Scissorhands. She found some scissors, DD1's very sharp metal scissors lying around and managed to snip a large hole in her top this evening. Well done Alice!

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 07/10/2009 21:05

Kagey - maybe a flu or virus type thing? Keep an eye on her, but if you feel uneasy about it go and see the GP.

Debi - ds didn't get any new teeth for about 4 or 5 months then a couple of weeks ago he was very unsettled at night and lo and behold two new teeth popped through.

Scissors - omg. I would have had a heart in mouth moment at that! Little monkey

DS is going from strength to strength with his walking. I can see he's now making a point of walking from A to B, rather than just throwing himself between the sofa and chair.

His climbing is also improving. Up onto the sofa, onto the arm of the sofa, then onto the window cill
