Here we are: the thread that will see our LO's first birhtday...

Oh god, birthdays! DP and I were panicking about that the other day, as T has 9 grandparents of one form or another (don't ask -lots of divorcing and remarrying in this family), so by the time we've invited them and our siblings and partners (so another 5 people), we're already well above the amount of people I'd like to cater for! Contemplating having a little party for baby group people, and just seeing each set of parents at around the same time for individual parties...

Pacita I am curious Does your job has something to do with languages?
I might have to find work(I really don't want to leave Lorea with anyone else) but, you know the need is the need.I need to come up with a part time job, I used to be a language teacher before becoming a"mother-teacher" to my little boy. I could not work full time now. Ideas?

How are you feeling today?

I've already started to think about what we're going to do for M's bday, and so far we haven't come to any conclusions! Probably a bbq for friends, then a tea party for his little friends and their mum's.

Although I have bought the cake tin so I can make his birthday cake. It's a train shaped tin so all I have to do is pipe a bit of icing and stick a few sweets onto it

Potxola a bit better, thank you. I'm going to give the HV a call this week and see about going through my birth notes with someone, and just the decision to do something about it has helped, as well as everyone's kind words yesterday.

ILTMIMI T is fascinated by door handles - if I'm holding him he'll do a random lurch towards the handle if he catches sight of it.

T has been falling on his nose with increasing regularity. I think this might be him contemplating crawling, but I'm not holding my breath, as he doesn't seem to have figured out anything further than falling in approximately the right direction...

Potxola, it does not involve languages in the sense of being a teacher or translator.

I work in new media, started off as a designer but I have been a producer for years now.

Truth is, I have not really looked in earnest yet. I don't want to leave my little boy!

I dont have a clue what to get f for his birthday, My house is full of toys, he does'nt need clothes, i will have to have a think.

I will prob just have a little tea party on his birthday, i keep forgeting it will be my birthday too

digi we're getting a small wheelybug. I always wanted one for ds1 but couldn't bring myself to spend £50 on one. But as ds2 will have lots of hand me down toys and clothes I thought it might be nice for him to have something a bit special for himself. There's no way ds1 will let him have his sit and ride as he still plays with it so a new one will be useful anyway.

Those wheelybugs look cute!! But ds already has a sort of bike. A plastic vtech thing which I think is hideous but he loves it.

So there are a few of us 'freelancing' and sort of not really but maybe not being quite so 'careful' and trying for number 2. Yes, it's not the most encouraging of climates is it - swine flu and recession. But regular Flu does the rounds every year and people carry on ttc. Am banking on an eventual bfp spurring me into sensible financial planning. At the moment I'm still just spending all the money I earn. Have zero savings left after subsidising my maternity allowance.

Bookstart help please - I have just got back from the GP with DD (nasty nappy rash for 3+ weeks). While there I asked the nice receptionist if they had the Bookstart packs. She rummaged around in the HV's cupboard and got one for me! I thought Yay, got the books without having to see the horrid HV. But I have just had a look at it and it says Bookstart+, which I think is supposed to be for 18 mths old? Does anyone know? Have I got the wrong pack? It is a yellow satchel and includes some crayons.

I was asking because my dh has an interview for a job, which will involve moving from Devon and probably relocate to Edimburgh.
I won't know for about 3 weeks. I am excited like you, ok, I am not a Scot, but I would love to live there forever. I stayed with a family in Coatbridge when I was 17 and felt at home in the country at once.

Pacita I'd rather be poor than leave Lorea with someone till she is at least 2, but, again, I could be eating my words soon .
I think I would like to do with her the things I did with my son. Take her to as many toddler baby and toddler groups as I can .In Norwich I used to go to 5 a week.
I guess, I am just not ready to teach other people kids. I'd rather teach my own.

OOOH OOH OOOOH!!! No, I'm not pregnant . I've just been offered a chance at a long term freelance contract with my old employer. For the same amount of money as I would have got going back to work 3 days a week.

T has been a misery guts today (inbetween falling on his face). Had been trying everything to jolly him along to no avail, eventually stuck a finger in his mouth and realised he had popped a new tooth!

ponymum yes that's the toddler pack! Go to the York library and get the baby one its in a fabric bag (v.handy for keeping potatoes in so I'm told!)

becaroo I'm in York so I can tell you about soft play areas in this direction, but ponymum is much better placed to tell you about the coast. Fwiw I would go to Filey rather than Scarborough every time.

Dh would like to be ttc, I'm not!!! Must move house first.

For birthday, we're going to be asking for stuff that's appropriate for our 2 1/2 year old... I fancy some of that fake brio from Ikea, and a garage of some description, and a doctors set. Can't think of anything ds needs!

Got ds weighed today, 18lb 9oz, so still between 9th and 25th centile, not big enough for next carseat, and I realised he's still in some 3-6m clothes. He really doesn't look as small as the stats say he is!

Stressful teatime today, while I was making the tea I look out the window and saw the old guy next door lean over to reach out to his bird table and it fell away from him and he fell down too. He's about 85 so it wasn't too good. First time I've ever phoned 999, the adrenaline was pumping for ages. I think he's going to be ok but it was horrible at the time. Luckily dh came home part way through it all so he took over rescuing the meatballs while I went to the end of the road to make sure the ambulance came down the right lane as the 1st guy who came in an ambulance car hadn't given them the best directions!

carriebo the fake brio from ikea isn't as good as other fake brio as it's not compatable with anything else. We've got ELC, tesco and brio tracks. And there's a company called Bigjigs (I think) who do loads of good bridges, junctions etc.
And ds2 loves ds1's ELC garage- big blue plastic one.

Well done hopefully that's brilliant- bet you're glad you didn't go back to work now.

I forgot to tell you the most amusing thing today, ds was playing on the bathroom floor while I ran the bath tonight, then he did a wee, I couldn't think where to put him while I cleaned him up, so sat him on the potty and he did a poo! He's better than dd!! I know someone who put their dcs on the potty every time she saw them doing a poo, and they were all fully potty trained by 18m. It takes a serious amount of dedication to do that, i can't imagine manhandling ds out of his clothes and nappy in time! ALthough as things are going he's going to be reliably potty trainined well before dd, and she's been in pants for 5 months now!

maybe they've changed it recently. When we got ds his last April it definately wasn't compatible

Urgh potty training, not looking forward to that at all. When does that happen?

My ds has become extra wriggly at nappy changing time. This morning I called my mum to help pin him down while I wiped poo off his bum. He actually hovered in the air like he was possessed as I held his feet and my mum held his arms. I've never seen anything like it!

So sorry Debithescot. I lived in Edinburgh for a year in the early 90s and LOVED it. Like potxola I felt at home immediately. I tell DH he would be welcome to look for something at Edinburgh Uni! (Don't worry, he's not a physicist. )

We are currently eating the most amazing fresh strawberries and raspberries given to us by neighbours who said they have "too many"! They taste incredible. Another neighbour has offered us unlimited raspberries if we go over and pick them. So I will wander over there and pick raspberries while DD sits on a Cath Kidston rug looking adorable in a floppy Boden sunhat runs amok and eats sheep poo.

lol at the last bit of your post ponymum. I fished rabbit poo out of ds2s mouth the other week- it's better than mud to eat as it stays hard and solid and is quite easy to fish out

DS2 screams the house down everytime he needs his nappy changed. 2 people aren't enough to pin him down. And he poos 3 or 4 times a day so it is a nightmare.
