Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMcJnr · 24/09/2009 22:27

My day went quite well today I was worried that being stuck in Marbella with both kids and the double buggy from 9.30 ? 2.30 with a swimming lesson for DS at 11.30 would be a nightmare but it was fine I found a park with fabulous fountains which DS loved. Then had a coffee with another swimming Mum, managed to get my double buggy in the lift at the hotel (one wheel off) and recruited another child?s granny to hold Aaliyah whilst DS and I were in the pool. Then both babies slept in the buggy for an hour and I read my book in a café, bliss

Llynnnn ? Aaliyah likes to sleep on her side too. I was of the understanding that if they roll into a position, it?s ok to leave them in it.

Hey Naat how is the sleep going?

Ineed ? most jags are free here but the PCV isn?t. Sounds like you are doing really well with the weight loss. I am a stone lighter than I was when I found out I was pregnant with Aaliyah (1 year ago on 26 Sept) but I still have 1 ½ stone to go until I am at my happy weight plus the Mummy Tummy (which is still covered in bruises from my jags, hope they fade soon)! I haven?t bothered to express yet, that said, I have loads of milk in the freezer, and I am still collecting @ 6 ozs a day.

Seeing as we all found out we were pregnant around this time last year, shall we share our stories? I had only stopped bfing DS two weeks beforehand and thought I might be ovulating, we?d agreed to try for another baby but never dreamed we?d be lucky the first time. DH couldn?t believe it!

June ? Cyprus will be lovely this time of year!

Ermintrude ? thanks

Bigcar ? glad to hear the physio is working, like you I could do with some more time for exercise.

Littlesarah ? DS used to wake up just as I wanted to go to bed, I found that really hard. Last night Aaliyah woke at 3.30am and didn?t go back to sleep until 5.30am. Then I was woken (as usual) by the neighbour having a fag and speaking to his dog at 7am

Choccie ? sorry to hear about all the worry with the feeding, it must be really stressful. Poor, poor baby girl.

Skillbo ? hello

ermintrude13 · 24/09/2009 22:36

choccie you poor thing - isn't it irritating when health advice is so contradictory? As for meltdowns with older DC, I'm really trying to button it because I too have lost my rag a bit too much recently and don't want them to associate baby bro with evil mummy. Hope tomorrow is a calmer day for you.

Skillbo I expressed for DD when I went back to work from 415 months old (overdid it out of guilt ). I'd built up a supply in the freezer before returning to work but then DH left the door open and we lost it! . The main point is that expressing is much much easier if you're doing it whilst NOT feeding baby, so if you build up enough in advance for a couple of days at work (DD took 3 x 4oz bottles but some babies need 3 x 6oz) and then have two 20-min expressing sessions at work (your employer has to provide somewhere for this; I used the book room and did 2 lots of 6oz each day) you should keep up with demand. DS1 refused any kind of milk in any kind of bottle but was 6 months when I left him at nursery so had started weaning and would drink water. My supply adapted so he had huge feeds morning and evenings on my 4 working days and then fed normally during weekends. You'll really feel the need to express and doing the first session will then tell your body to fill up again for the afternoon, which in turn will make sure there's plenty left for when you pick LO up after work. Good luck!

Naat · 24/09/2009 23:12

Hi all!!!

Ermin, it's amazing how our bodies work, isn't it?

Choccie, oh poor little Elina I really hope they can find a solution soon and especially stop giving you conflicting advice I send you lots of (((hugs))) Sorry to hear about the whole day, it was just one thing after the other I can see... hope you've managed to get some well-deserved rest now and that tomorrow is a better day.

Skillbo, fudge, yum!! Your day sounds lovely, hope Jazzy sleeps like an angel tonight

Mrsmc, hi! Mila is sleeping better these days. I'm bracing myself for the next growth spurt I cluster feed her from 7 to about 10.30pm and then she sleeps for about 4 to 6hs in a row, which makes mummy happy Question, how do you collect the milk that leaks? I sometimes go through two pairs of pads a day because of what I'm leaking and I think it'd be better to collect that instead. Your day also sounds wonderful! Glad you enjoyed it

June, Cyprus, bliss!! So happy for you you have another mini break soon I hope your accountant is not doing your head in these days... SIL doesn't sound like a good idea. Considering all you've told us about her since you were pg, it'd be a no-no for me if I were you... I'm with Ermin on the fact that if C is crying you won't be able to focus on your work (or MN )

LIttleS, hope you had a great lesson today... Sorry to hear about your night. Fingers crossed for you for tonight!!

Bigcar, yes, unfortunately we're moving again... come week 2 after moving here we realised our neighbours were a nightmare. I think I told you girls all about the ones that fight awfully and slam doors (they're doing it as I type ) to the ones that leave the doors open to the ones that smoke weed right outside of Mila's bedroom... We're looking for houses at the moment, let's hope we find something nice soon Glad to hear the exercises are working and you feel better. I can only imagine with 5 DC you find it hard to find time to do them

Ineed, ouch, what does the "ring" thing entail? I hope you get some answers when you visit your GYN. Don't worry about those 2 pounds, at least you know you've been losing some and now that you're back on "the wagon" you'll lose them in no time

I'm sleepy and should be taking advantage of Mila's sleep now. She had a bit of a hard day today, teething is BAD... quite a bit of crying and then just feeding and sleeping, not very playful... Oh well. Hope you all have a good night, ladies. Waves to all!!!

xxx

llynnnn · 25/09/2009 11:57

hi all

thanks for all the reassurance about sleeping on her side. i do worry about everything!!

naat - poor Mila, hope her teeth start appearing soon and the symptoms die down your neighbours really do sound AWFUL!! hope you find the perfect place really soon

mrsmc - your day sounds lovely

skillbo - hope Jazzy slept well last night after her restless day yesterday. i'm also looking forward to strictly tonight

chocie - sorry to hear Elina has been off colour hope her new medication has started working now. hope you have a better, less stressful day today. why is it when one thing starts to go wrong other things just follow!?

june - very about your hols to Cyprus. we love it there, its so beautiful and have always found the Cypriots to be very friendly. We also got engaged in Limassol so has a lot of sentimental memories!

ineed - hope your appointment with the gyn goes well and things feel 'normal' again very soon

good idea about sharing bfp stories mrsmc. I had a strange feeling I was pregnant but kept putting off testing each morning as didnt want to be disapointed if it was negative! it was a weds morning and dh was of work so had kindly agreed to get up with dd1 so i could have a lie in but i just couldnt wait any longer so did the test at 6am and got a bfp!! ran straight down the stairs to tell dh! we were both so excited, dd1 had never seen us with so much enery at that time of the day

Yesterday I sorted out all of Isobel's newborn and 0-3 months clothes she no longer fits in it was so sad to think i'm probably not going to have another baby that small again. AIBU to want to freeze time to keep her small!! (maybe i should start a thread lol!)

June2009 · 25/09/2009 12:33

lynn Snap we got engaged on a day out in paphos ;)

LittleSarah · 25/09/2009 14:10

Hello all!

On the good side driving lesson was good, especially the first hour, much less stalling, much more changing gear, got on some busy roads, etc, etc. Beginning to imagine actually being able to do this properly.

On the bad side, yes, another bad night. He woke at 12, then 2, then 4, then 6, then 7! Argh. I think over the weekend I am going to try not getting up for him until he cries, rather than when he first gets whingy. Dd is at her dad's this weekend so I thought perhaps I could put cot in her room for a couple of nights... not sure it will help any but worth a try!

MrsMcJnr - Glad your day worked out so well, lovely when it all goes to plan eh? Poor you with Aaliyah up and awake, that is incredibly hard.

I found out I was pregnant after my honeymoon. I thought there was a good chance and so the day my period was due I tested and got a negative. I did a couple a few days later and still negative. I was baffled, no period and I was sure I was pregnant but apparently not. A week after my period was due I got my positive! Then started the nausea... and the tiredness... and the miscarriage fears!

Naat - Ooh teething is sounding tough for you! At least you are getting a bit more sleep at night. Those neighbours! GRRRR!

Choccie - So sorry to hear about E's problems, you must be so worried. I'm sure it will work out but I'm not surprised you're stressed.

Skilbo and bigcar - Hooray for Strictly tonight, I cannae wait, they all must be as tired as us but at least we are not getting humiliated!

llynnn - I know what you me about freezing time, although at the moment with so little sleep it doesn't seem quite such a charming idea!

Tee - Hope all is okay with Adam.

Right, no chores have been managed so far today and I need to help dd with crafting!

Happy Fridays to all!

MrsMcJnr · 25/09/2009 16:05

Absolutely shattered after a mammoth play date ? 12-4.30, too tired to clean up all the mess or even to imagine where I will find pieces of food next?. Here for some R&R and a well earnt cup of tea

Ermintrude ? boobs are amazing aren?t they? They could be a bit more resilient to pregnancy and breast feeding and keep their tone and bounce but still, pretty incredible things!

Naat ? Aaliyah has been waking up again in the middle of the night (2.30/3.30am) for a feed most nights this week and then is awake again 7.30/8am. I guess I can?t complain as she does go down about 8.30pm, the trouble is I don?t want to go to bed then! I go through at least 4 sets of breast pads a day, it costs me so much that I am trying washable ones at night but they are pretty useless. I use breast shields to collect the milk (you can get them at Boots) and then store it in these bags www.lansinoh.co.uk/MilkStorageBagsInfo.php sorry to hear that you need to move again

Llynnnn ? loved your BFP story I get insomnia as a first sign of pregnancy! I?d like to freeze time too.

Littlesarah ? well done on the driving what a terrible night you had, you must feel barely functional today, mucho sympathy from me. Liked your BFP story too I got my BFP with Aaliyah 13 days after I ovulated. Dr didn?t believe I could know so soon ? fool! It was another 4 weeks before the nausea kicked in. I too always have miscarriage fears, especially as I always seem to get bleeds in early pregnancy

Naat · 25/09/2009 18:12

Hi all!

Mrsmc, thanks for that! I'll get some from Boots tomorrow I also tried washable ones, they were not good, especially as they didn't get enough time to dry and one day I found small green dots I'm back with disposable ones for good That was a long play-date! I hope you're next to a cuppa now and with your feet up

LittleS, glad you're doing so much progress! You'll be driving in no time! Ouch, not a good night I can see Hope you have a better one tonight, fingers crossed for you.

Llynn, LOL at the AIBU thread I was telling Dh the same thing the other day, that I would have wanted the newborn stage to last a bit longer... I was feeding mila in bed and suddenly realised when she was born she fit on top of a pillow and there was extra space... she's huge now! How can they grow SO quickly!?

Our pgcy story: we decided in Sept last year to start trying as we had heard that it could take up to a year to get pg. So went a bit crazy and started doing it every day just to help the process a little bit I first knew something was going on when 1. I was doing pilates one day and I felt short of breath after just a few exercises and that had never happened before, and 2. one day in boots I commented how awful the perfume of a lady was and DH's face was exactly as he couldn't see anyone immediately around So I took a test and it said negative... a few days later I took another one and it was positive. It was a Saturday at 8am... I woke DH and told him "I see two pink lines!" Oh, and the miscarriage fears were present here too...

Hope you're having a good day today. I'm already cold, ladies... wearing long sleeved t-shirt + jumper Ohhh I'm dreading what's coming!!

Oh, I bought a foam floor mat that covers half our living room to put Mila on and play without worrying about anything. I can just leave her lying there and pop to the loo now I'll upload some pics now.

Waves to all!!!

ermintrude13 · 25/09/2009 22:28

Naat She's looking so grown up already! Gorgeous face - nd VERY leggy - wonder if she'll be a dancer . You and MrsMc have tremendous milk supply; I don't have any leaks to catch and washable breast pads are fine for an entire day and night this time around. Airing cupboards are wonderful things - they dry really quickly without going mouldy.

MrsMc, a friend of mine who works for La Leche says it's a myth about b/feeding making bozooms saggy. It's more about genetics, weight and personal fitness. I have to say that even after b/f DD for 22 months and DS1 for 18 months my boobs sprang back into quite perky 34Cs and my mum's are still impressive at nearly 70

LittleS well done on the driving, it's well worth sticking with even if it is tricky at first. Hope you get some sleep tonight - so glad A seems to realise that his poor old mum simply couldn't cope with that this time.

llynnn I know what you mean about sorting through the tiny clothes and getting almost broody about the teeny baby who's growing so fast. Arthur will soon be out of the 3-6 month clothes (he'll be 3 months on 29th)so it's going by super-fast for me

DH has been working so hard recently, I cooked peppered rump steak, cherry tomatoes with garlic, seared asparagus and new potatoes. Am now full of that and red wine and ready for bed. Night night .

chocciedooby · 26/09/2009 09:34

I too am amazed at how quickly these los are growing up.I also have started to put some clothes away and the realisation that this will be my last little baby makes me sad , however I know that there is a lot of hard work ahead.......

Hey Ermin and Naat. Naat Good luck with the house hunting. I really hope you find the perfect place soon. You must be so busy looking and minding Mila at the same time.

Hi LittleSarah. Sounds like the driving is coming along. Good for you

I think the Zantac meds have started to kick in with Elina. She has enjoyed her last few feeds so fingers crossed she suffers no more pain.

Hi Lynnn, Mrsmc Sounds like a blissful day in Marbella

Hi to everyone else, hope all ok.

I had a better day yesterday. Was still hectic and didn't get lunch until 3.30 but stress levels were a little lower. They raised slightly when my new fridge freezer arrived the same time as cleaners due and I had 5 kids in the house.

Things have become calmer around here for the time being. Most play dates are pre-arranged which works so much better.

DH is away until Tomorrow lunchtime. He is on a boys weekend in the country. My turn next weekend

LittleSarah · 26/09/2009 10:38

ermin - What a great dinner, yum, I am now tempted to get me to the butcher! It also has reminded me to iplayer Nigel Slater's new series!

I think you are right about sticking with the driving, already I can see so many benefits. Mustn't get too ahead of myself!

MrsMcJnr and Naat - I am most impressed with your milk supplies! Mine calmed considerably at 6/7 weeks and now I only need a breast pad when feeding, in fact that is how I know which side I last fed on, it is the one NOT covered with a pad!

Better night last night, no idea if it is because we moved the cot but we'll see if the improvement continues tonight. He got up about 12.15am, back in cot by half past then up again at 6.15, and asleep for another hour or so, not bad!

bigcar · 26/09/2009 16:33

OMG there's a june 2010 antenatal thread!!!! How time flies

lauraloo09 · 26/09/2009 16:36

hiya everyone, god everytime i post i now apologise for not being on as much as i'd like
In teething hell right now, Sarah hasn't cut her first tooth yet but it can't be too far way (i say hopefully) She turned 3 months there on wed and i still cant believe how quickly time is flying in!

Went back to doc and my 'visitors' are nearly away now after getting new cream getting implant removed on thurs, but need to go back to doc asthe area around my section scar is sore and sometimes i get a sharp pain

Here's my BFP story.
My DH and I had been trying for a baby for 2 years, there are relatives of mine who cannot have children so i thought it was a hereditry (sp?) problem I had. I had been on Clomid for 6 months and had a laparoscopy done and there was no explanation for my infertility. Beginning of Sept last year we were told we would not have children naturally and that IVF was our next step, which I was ok with. 2 weeks later i just felt strange and decided to take a test on te wed and it was negative. On the Sunday i still felt strange so decided to use my last test and thats when i got my BFP! I couldn't believe it esp after what doc and consultant said, so i went out and must have bought all the tests in Boots (think I went thro 8 more lol). My mum was in Lourdes on a Pilgramige and she told me that all she did was light candles and say prayers for Paul and I...and having the faith I do I believe that it helped me so in my eyes Sarah is my miracle baby

littlesarah glad to hear you had a better night last night, long may it continue x

choccie i have already packed away Sarah's newborn clothes and will be packing her 0-3month clothes away tonight i cannot believe thats her in 3-6 month clothes already. Happy to hear play-dates are pre-arranged now must be less stressful for you now

erm I'm so hungry now after reading about that meal, I hope your DH appeciated and enjoyed it

naat that foam mat for Mila sounds fab, esp now as you can go to loo without worrying she'll roll and bang her head

mrsmc god that was a long play date no wonder you were shattered, hope you got some rest x

hellos to everyone I'm missing and again I know there's lots of you i've not replied to

bigcar · 26/09/2009 17:19

afternoon all

choccie, poor Elina, pleased to hear the meds are working Sorry to hear you've had a hectic few days, at least the neighbour seems a little better behaved!

skillbo, glad you had a good day out! Edward is also holding onto his poos for a few days now, it used to be every nappy when he was tiny

MrsMcJnr, I'm very of your weight loss, that's great also your milk collection, I'm barely leaking at all! We also managed to conceive on the first month of trying, I'd thought being a little older it would take a while guess we've been lucky. It was almost a to get a bfp!

naat, poor you! Yes, I do remember you saying about your awful neighbours, they sound an absolute nightmare A house would be nice, especially if you have a garden, Mila would love it Hope Milas teeth aren't too bad today. Such lovely pics

llynnnn, it seems an age since I put Edwards 0-3 month stuff away, time certainly flies when they are so little for such a short time.

littles, great driving Much better sleep for you last night!

erm, another lovely dinner there making my mouth water!

strictly last night was great, noone was really bad I thought. Alesha was better, had a few more constructive things to say, didn't see why Brucie felt the need to defend her quite so much. Tuffers and Richard Dunnwoody did well, I thought they wouldn't be so good, thinking back to Quentin Wilson a couple of series ago! Zoe looked stunning, that dress was gorgeous and there was more to Olas dress in the group dance compared to what she had on last week Problem was, I fell asleep part way through (must have been more tired than I thought!) woke up just after 12, so I had to watch the rest on iplayer this morning! This evening with the latin should be good!

Bit of a manic day yesterday, it was dd1s birthday, she decided to go out for a meal with her friends last night so at least the evening was a little less manic Edwards teeth are bothering him, he's had quite a few don't put me down days recently. He's fine as soon as you pick him up, lovely big smiles, just needs his cuddles

waves to all

Tee2072 · 26/09/2009 17:47

Hi all

Just a quick fly by to say I'm still alive and Adam is fine!

I swear I'm gonna catch up at some point!

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 26/09/2009 20:43

Evening all!

Well, I managed to catch up a bit?

choccie sorry to hear about the reflux. At least there are things you can do for it.

skill nothing worse than when little legs drawn up, little faces turn red and there?s a big groan and still nothing comes out! A was doing that today and then pow! Poo for days Oh and you can find me on Facebook at tee @ leyser DOT org, no space, usually formatting!! If you want.

mrsmcj that sounds like a heavenly day on Thursday. I do love when A falls asleep in his pram and I can feel not an ounce of guilt as I sit in my favourite coffee shop and read my book and drink away.

llynn Adam is already in 6 ? 9 or 9 ? 12! I got rid of newborn and 0 ? 3 ages ago! Be glad she was in it as long as she was.

littlesarah yikes, those sound like bad nights. I don?t know how you feel about pacifiers, but sometimes, when Adam wakes up I stick his pacifier in his mouth while I run to the loo before getting him up and pop he?s back asleep for several hours! Might be worth a try?

naat Mila is just gorgeous! I like the floor mat. And good luck house hunting!

erm and you didn?t invite me for dinner last night? Hurmph!

laura oh ugh teething! Adam is showing some signs, but no pain yet. Good luck!

My BFP story: DH and I had been trying for almost 2 years. We had had one appointment with the fertility clinic and were waiting for the follow up. The month before I got my BFP my period was 3 days late for the first time in those 2 years and I was positive I was pregnant. Then I got my period. The following month I told DH I need a month off. To just not even watch the calendar or use the ovulation predictor. But, of course, in the back of my mind I was counting days. And on the day I should have been ovulating I said to him ?well, I could be, ya wanna?? So we did. And 2 weeks later I started having light cramps, shrugged my shoulders and sighed. 2 days later, no period. 3 days after, no period. Finally worked up the courage on a Saturday morning in October to take a test. I was up at 6 (having a baby hasn?t really changed my sleeping ) and sat there staring at it as it said ?Pregnant 3 ? 4 weeks?. I ran into our bedroom, woke up DH saying ?This thing says Pregnant!!? He leapt out of bed yelling ?Take it again!? But that was my last test. As soon as Boots opened we got another test. And it was still positive!!!!

Okay, I?d say I?ve caught up!

Skillbo · 26/09/2009 21:44

Hello lovely June ladies...

Hope you're all having a nice weekend. DP's gran and great aunt have come from Scotland for a visit so we have lots of family stuff to do - which is ok but does mean the days aren't really ours which is a shame. Jazzy was in a right state today when we went for a visit, think she might be teething, Lauraloo - drool everywhere, red cheek, playing with her ear and fist rammed so far in her mouth. It's not hell yet but it breaks my heart that we can't do anything to help other than smearing some gel on her gums (not sure if that even helps really as I think I get more on her upper lip than actually on her gums!).

Tee - so glad to hear that Adam is fine - he sounds like a big, healthy boy... we can still get Jazzy in a select few 0-3 month clothes but I think the next wash will see most of them packed away!

MrsM - cannot believe there is a 2010 thread but I guess now is the time that everyone is finding out. We had a few 'scares' and following the last one, we both realised how disappointed we were that the test had been negative so I came off the pill. We were really lucky that I fell the next month - I only realised when I was sat at my desk and for no reason(!), had to go to the toilet and throw up. I was only properly sick about 5 times through my whole pregnancy but that first time tipped me off.. I had also been feeling rough as dogs and freezing cold for a couple of weeks which all of a sudden made perfect sense. I have read that most people get hot flushes but, as I say, I was frozen and I never feel the cold... odd!

Choccie - so glad that Elina seems to be feeding better, what a relief!

I still wear disposable breast pads during the day and a muslin draped over my chest at night - still manage to soak the duvet and sheet if Jazzy gets a decent nights sleep in. I should be grateful as it means there's plenty there for the lo, but still nervous about expressing. Oh well, must bite the bullet and get cracking. Just out of interest, do you all sterlisise your bottles. I have seen a thread on the feeding area here saying there is no need as long as you use boiling water to clean them and wondered what your thoughts were!

Well - Strictly tonight, what a treat! I was a little sad to see Richard go as he reminded me of a favourite uncle but definitely the right choice. And isn't Ricky looking fabulous - can't wait to see him progress really and he looked to have lovely hip action . I have a slight girl crush on Zoe Lucker and thought she looked lovely both last night and tonight.. go Zo!

Anyways, another family BBQ tomorrow (last of the season apparently) with four generations in attendance... should be fun! Have a wonderful rest of your weekends ladies - Tee, will look you up on FB in a mo x

lauraloo09 · 26/09/2009 22:31

Hiya skill I'm also on FB laura dot flynn at live dot com please look me up!
Glad to hear Jazzy is doing so well, hopefully her teething wont be too bad, honestly there is nothing worse than hearing the pain caused by teething and not being able to do anything, think I'm in for a long night again

tee wow Adam is really thriving if he is in his 6-9month clothes already

Just wondering I know the official guidelines is no weaning until 6 months but my HV has said by time Sarah is 16 weeks she should have already started on some baby rice...is any of you guys' babies already looking to be weaned or are you all holding off for the 6month mark i;m getting so much conflicting advice im not sure what to do and to be honest Sarah is looking for something more than milk.

MrsMcJnr · 26/09/2009 22:47

Hey chicks Hard day today it was raining and our space seemed half the size. Aaliyah was very clingy and her teeth were obviously really bothering her she was trying to get her whole fist into her mouth and was shouting very loudly poor little mite she did sleep through last night, 9-8 although DS woke at 3.30am so I didn?t get to sleep through!

Naat ? uggh at the green bits on the washable breast pads. Frankly, they are just not big enough and slip around, I?m not a fan. Loved your pg story, I am the same about smells when pg, I can smell everything (very mild super power!) that mat sounds great. I got foam jigsaws for DS and covered his entire bedroom floor with them ? now I see your photos I see you have the same Mila does look so grown up, gorgeous!

Ermintrude ? that?s interesting about the boobs, I?ve always had big boobs 32E before kids and have always taken care of them in terms of well fitted bras, breast creams etc. Fitness wise, I?ve always done yoga, pilates, aerobics and swimming so it must be the genetics my Mum is a perky 36B but both my Grannies had/have huge bosoms your dinner sounded delicious last night

Choccie ? hope Elina?s feeds are getting better. Where are you off to next weekend?

Littlesarah ? that?s a good way of knowing which boobie you fed from last I tend to feed from the one leaking the most Glad to hear that you had a much better night last night, hope you get another good one tonight.

Bigcar ? I had a baby in 2008 and in 2009 wonder if I?ll have one in 2010 (hoping for one @ Nov 2010!) think I?ll be piling back on the weight I have lost as I can?t stop baking and eating what I?ve cooked today it was flap jacks Enjoyed Strictly both nights although I fell asleep during both shows! The professional dancers have such great bodies!

Laura ? sorry to hear about all your medical hassles, hope that by the end of next week they have all calmed down a lot. Your BFP story is lovely, just shows you how nature can still mystify us! DS was 6 months before I gave him anything but milk. I plan to wait until 6 months with Aaliyah too.

Tee ? hello there! Another lovely BFP story, such excitement So pleased that Adam is fine

Skillbo ? Ashton & Parsons powders are fabulous for teething by the way. Its funny how all the BFP symptoms fall into place when you know isn?t it? I haven?t used a bottle yet for Aaliyah but I still sterlise DS?s and he is 20 months! I just don?t like the idea of the nasties that could be lurking around milky things. Ricky on Strictly really is fabulous. Pecs to die for. Enjoy that BBQ

Where are the rest of the girls??
Daisy? Bunnymother? Doris? Loooouise? And many more??

Off to bed, so knackered all the time at the moment.

Just a quickie before bed...

I have been advised by everyone I know (other than MIL) that it;s best not to wean until 6 months as their tummies really can't take it... if you need to, baby rice is not too bad but DON'T put it in the bottles to thicken your milk up as can cause huge problems...

Oh, and on the boob front - it is pregnancy itself that causes any droopage as that's when they really swell (although mine were like basketballs a few days after my milk came in)... breastfeeding is actually very good for the tissue inside!

Nighty night - hope good sleeps for all!

Evening all

Tee congratulations on good catch-up!

Lauraloo that's old advice the HV is giving you! Also, most babies hate baby rice because it's bland and globby. Mine refused it but enjoyed their veg purees - if getting covered in butternut squash and spinach equals enjoyment - and fruit mush etc at first. When I had my first DC, 4 months was advised for weaning and it clearly hasn't killed anybody but nowadays they reckon the infant gut is more ready for non-milk food at 6 months. However, it partly depends on the size of the baby and how alert/upright he or she is, and how much interest he or she shows in food. If at 4 months Arthur starts licking his lips at food or tries to grab some or seems to want to b/feed constantly without being satisfied I'll start him off on a few purees but if he shows no interest it can clearly wait another month or two.

Skillbo hope you have a good time with your guests. They can be hard work even if you love them to bits can't they?

MrsMc the Mothercare washable breast pads I've used this time are pretty good - they cover much more than the nipple and aureole and are very absorbent - disposables go all lumpy after half a day but these last a day and a night for me (though as I've said I don't leak hardly at all).

2010 June thread - yikes! My BFP story - we'd been trying for well over a year to no avail and my endometriosis symptoms were returning. We'd conceived three times before (DD, a m/c and DS1) within 2 months of starting TTC so I was sure the endo was the problem. So I had a course of injections which gave me a fake menopause - hot flushes, weight gain the lot - and gave the endo time to atrophy. After coming off the treatment and beginning to menstruate again, we started TTC and this time it worked. It was the month I'd decided should be our last try and I'd come to terms with the fact it wasn't going to happen, was counting my blessings of 2 lovely DC etc. so was really to get a bfp.

so tired, must go to bed night all xx

morning all

laura, your hv should clearly be shot as erm said she is giving out of date advice, the world health organisation currently recommends 6 months for starting solids. Again, also like erm, my older dcs have weaned at 4 months as that was the advice then, apart from dd3 but that's a long story and they are all fine, no problems with allergies or upset digestive systems. When Edward is ready to wean I will be steering well away from anything in a packet and I will be trying to hold out for 6 months if possible. I weaned my older dcs when they stopped sleeping through and were permanently attached to my chest feeding. Lovely bfp story

tee, lovely to see you back and lovely bfp story too

skillbo, hope you're enjoying your visitors Have you tried using those breast shells/shields to collect the leaking milk, I think that's what MrsMc does, a good way to build up a supply in the freezer if you're leaking a lot. I do sterilise bottles but Edward puts all sorts in his mouth that hasn't been, guess it's the teething as all his toys go in his mouth and there's no way I'm sterilising all those

MrsMcJnr, wow, guess you'll be trying again pretty soon then I often wish I hadn't had such big gaps between my dcs! You're allowed extra goodies, bf uses up a lot of extra calories, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it You're doing great, surely the odd treat is allowable

erm, hope you managed a good nights sleep I must admit, that's what confuses me the most, what advice has changed and what hasn't, it changes every time I'm sure. When I had dd1 the midwives were recommending you put your lo to sleep on his/her front! It was only really after Ann Diamonds little boy died that the advice changed on a massive scale She did a hell of a lot of campaigning at that time, it must have been so hard for her.

looks like it could be another nice day today, the garden needs a good tidy up before the weather changes so hopefully we'll get that done!

waves to all

laura we're going to start food as soon as we come back from holidays, C. will be coming up to 17 weeks then I think. (born 18/06).
I have not read anything about weaning yet but I would imagine we'll be pureeing stuff for her. Other people have mentionned baby rice to me, not looked into it either.
I'm hoping I'll have time to read about it on holiday. (right...)

Random question of the day: Do you guys know how to sterilise jars to store tomato sauce? We made the sauce and bought the jars and now kinda " what's next" sort of thing.
I strated a thread in the food section about it.

The thread is going fast, we'll probably be on a new one by the time I'm back from holiday, are we going to use mrsmc's suggestion for a new title?

ermintrude13 · 27/09/2009 17:16

Hi all

June for jam jars it's fine to run them through a cycle in the dishwasher and use straight away.

Someone else asked about sterilising pumps and bottles for expressing. I still do because I have a steam steriliser but I know that lots of people don't sterilise even for standard f/feeding equipment (as Tee will tell you, they don't sterilise in the US) so don't think it's vital. As long as all the equipment is clean and has no old milky bits on, and is frozen or stored in the fridge swiftly, I think it's fine.
