Hola
It is one week since returning from holiday and what a mountain of washing, ironing and housework there has been!!! I haven't had a spare minute in the past week.
I haven't much time to read through everyone's news but tee - I hope Adam's bump isn't too much worry - good to hear they are taking it seriously and doing all the right things.
And june funny you say Calypso isn't in to the Bumbo - Fraser doesn't love it nearly as much as my DD did. I think he feels a little 'trapped' while she found it exciting. He does quite like it if I put it up on the table and chat to him as then he is more at my height and sees things from a different perspective.
littlesarah and laura - hope you are both feeling in better spirits. laura - my advice is to just smile and say yes when people give their two bits worth about bringing up your baby, and then go away and do it your own way. Sometimes it's interesting to hear other people's experiences but often not, so it's not worth paying too much attention to it. Then you can tell them that you tried it their way and it didn't work (when you really didn't try at all)
naat and looouise - hello fellow northern lasses.
Interesting to hear you all talking about weaning. I started dd at around 5 months because the time felt right. I started very slowly and it all went smoothly. I did talk to a mother in the playground who had a 4 month old who had started on solids 2 weeks ago and was already on all kinds of foods because he was so hungry he just kept eating...kind of like the Hungry Caterpillar I guess. I don't actually know anyone who has waited until 6 months although we all realise it's the health guidelines, I don't know any babies who've wanted to wait that long.
I'm actually quite interested in this new concept, where you allow babies to take foods that interest them and start nibbling on them. It's some alternative to the 'puree' process. I can't remember what they are calling it but have an article somewhere.
The holiday was heavenly - even though the weather really went downhill the second week (mrsmcjnr agreed it was fairly depressing arriving to 31oC and on the second last day it was 14oC when we went out!!) it was still just wonderful just padding around in bare feet, going for the odd swim, sitting looking out over towards the hills and windmills and hearing the birds tweeting etc. I love walks by the sea regardless of what temperature it is. We found that Fraser wasn't his best if he missed his morning and lunchtime nap so most days we went out around 2.30 or 3.00 and came home around 6pm. Some days we went for a tapas lunch and he napped in the buggy but it wasn't reliable.
On the whole he was much better the second week than the first, and made leaps and bounds with sleeping at night. When we left the UK he was no longer even sleeping in his cot - he was only going to sleep cuddling up to me in bed or in his swing chair - it was an awful awful situation which came about because of his bad wind problems.
Anyway because it was so hot when we arrived, neither of us wanted to sleep with one another - it was way too hot and sticky. Also the long day travelling was just so exhausting that he slept about 5 hours straight in his cot at the hotel. The next two nights at the cottage were a bit rough and then he settled to sleeping in the travel cot. Because of the wind problem I gave up on the 10.30 feed and just decided to let him sleep until he naturally woke up because there was a slightly better chance of getting the wind up than when he was tired and drowsy. Also if he wouldn't burp at 11.00 we were in for a bad night, but if it was 3pm then at least I had 5 hours sleep under my belt and could deal with it a bit better. It worked quite well and by the second week he was sleeping up to 7-8 hours - from 7.30 until about 3am then sleeping till 7am.
And when we got home he slept from 7.30 until 4.30 one night - 9hourssleep!!!!!
However sadly since Fraser has definately started going through a growth period and he has been waking more and more. He is going for the breast every two hours and last night woke at 11.30 then 4am then 6am then was screaming by 8.30 etc etc. But hopefully we go back to the long stretches again as it was heavenly.
Fraser was a brilliant traveller though which is a great relief as I am facing a 30 hour trip to NZ sometime in the next 6 months.
My BFP story is a happy one (I guess they all are)...we had just started trying again after a miscarriage at 12 weeks (and another earlier one). 6 days before my period was due (2 days before we were due to go on holiday to the same place in Spain) I had this odd sense I was pregnant and so tested at 4pm in the afternoon (yes, should have waited till morning) and it was positive. It wasn't till the following evening at the airport hotel that I had the courage to tell dh, but I couldn't say the words out loud, as so worried it might be another one that didn't work out and I didn't want to jinx it, so I waited until he went to get some coffee from Starbucks and texted him to say we might be getting another chance.
I had better go and put my darlings to bed.
Hope you are all well.
Adios
