Oh and will speak to DH about Warwick and let you all know.

And if you want to share food ideas, we could just use the topic I set up a while ago on our FB group page?

Honeymoonmummy · 20/07/2009 23:24

Oh and I gave Poppy her first (home-made) ice pop this morning. Should have seen her face!

That's a good idea hmm, about the FB page. We've got a Smeg but I really want the glass fronted black one, can't remember who it's by....... Not sad at all, new things are always nice to have.

I've got to have my stitches taken out today. I am a bit frightened which DH thinks is hilarious as I am normally very 'stuff and nonsense' about these things. I've never had stitches removed before.

jenwa · 21/07/2009 09:02

mm stiches being removes will be fine, dont worry. Are they staples or thread? May be more slight pulling feeling. Hope it goes ok.

loll at your excitement re fridge-freezer hm thats what our lives have come to now .

ronshar · 21/07/2009 10:16

Morning everyone.

MM, take some pain relief as sometimes stiches can be a little sore when removed because some get a bit stuck. Did you have staples or stiches? Staples easier to get out. It sounds like you are doing great. Please be careful though the last thing you need is to rupture your wound. Did you ask the docs to remove a bit of fat while they were rumaging about. I know I would have. (not that you need to obviously) Bugger.

Myjob, DS is a lovely beautiful boy. You & DH should be incredibly proud of him.

Jenwa, is it appropriate for me to say that those hearing aids were really cool looking. I would def choose those if I had to wear one.

Aubergenie, that dress is very sexy. You will look fabulous.

Rachie, enjoy the holidays, once you go back to work the time flies, before you know it it will be half term again.

Star, all I can remember is Sex, pizza, Dh & castles. Not sure of the order. That may say more about me though. Dont worry about the sleep training, Q knows you are there. I really believe that the babies are at the age where they know exactly what they are doing. W has been showing me that he is a cunning little monkey. That gasping thing, he can turn it on like a tap!!!!

Pistachio, I know how you feel about being a SAHM. Some days it really gets you down.

HMM, young lady, I am wagging my finger at you. Your GP is correct. Wait until you feel better before putting yourself through another pregnancy.

CSWS, I am at the end of my culinary abilites. I have reached the point in the school year, which happens every year, where it is fish fingers, beans and either chips or jacket pots. Some days I manage fresh fish, some days sausages. Both DD's are fussy buggers. No mince, mash, green veg, pasta dishes, tomato based sauces. So I basically end up cooking two diff diners most nights! I hate cooking.

Purpleflower, your DH sounds very controlling . At least he has good relationship with the children.

Not sure hwo asked but no I wasnt on holiday. Just a small break down. Every now and then I get to a point where I just cant cope anymore. Both DD's are challenging in dif ways. W has turned into a bit of a moaner. I am getting less sleep again. I also have a bad back which means I wake up most mornings with burning pain across my lower back. Difficult to walk, bend over, pick stuff up. I get really short tempered with the pain which obviously dosen't help anyone. Sorry moan moan.

I cant make any of the meets. (Stamps foot). 30th July I am flying to Dublin for a few days with family and just taking W with me. We are then going to France to visit MIL at the end of August. Back the 30th.

Marthasmama · 21/07/2009 10:43

It wasn't too bad in the end. It was one long stitch that was pulled through with bead things on the ends. I actually feel better now the stitch is out. The scar was too long for the longest dressing the nurse had though.

Ronshar - I was thinking that I would ask them to scrape some of the fat out while they were there. They did take some fat out as they removed and biopsied my omentum. Having looked up omentectomy it looks like they may have done me a big favour there! Yay!

Sorry to hear you've been having a hard time Ronshar. We sometimes struggle with just two as DS is such a nightmare at the moment. I think it's to do with his birthday coming up, end of school and lack of sleep. We think we need Dr Tanya Byron to help us. Maybe if we all contributed we could hire her for the day and get her to sort out all our problem children!!

ronshar · 21/07/2009 11:15

MM how about Supernanny. We could be on the TV!!!!!!
When do you get the results from your biopsy?

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/07/2009 11:20

I've never even heard of an oventum! Will have to look it up on wiki .
Glad that the stitches weren't too bad coming out.

Sorry to hear that you've been down ronshar, but my turn to wag a finger at you, as that's when you should post the most! We are happy to listen even if we can't solve your problems. Do you have a chiropractor who can help with your back?

lol at you misreading my mistype hmm!

star6 · 21/07/2009 11:20

Glad it was ok MM. I would have been very scared
Q did something on my laptop to disable the wireless adaptor so I couldnt get online for a while and couldn't be bothered to use blackberry to get on. But it's been rather quiet!
Having a SMALL problem with possible meet up at warwick on 23rd now... trying to fix it so we can go!
I get my new car today! yay! Actually it's a used car (only cost £1000) because my car is totally on its way out and in bad bad shape. I've been waiting about 2 months for this one though - a family from my school who is moving back to america is selling it but not moving until tomorrow so needed it until now. Finally!!!!

DH and I had a massive argument about sleep training and he doesn't want Q "associating" him with crying...etc... a big mess. He said it was mything and he didn't want to do it and refused to help me when I couldn't get Q to sleep. Told me it's not a hard thing to do and I should be able to do it, to stop acting like I'm "supermom" b/c I'm not...etc. I know I'm not great at this, but I AM trying!!

I said I wasn't going to put him to bed if he disagreed so much with the crying... not going to do something he disagrees with. So, he said "he'll go to sleep when he's tired"
In the end, he took him in and laid on the bed next to the cot while he listened to Q cry to sleep in his cot and kept going over and putting his hand on him every 5 minutes or so. It took over and hour. And now is reading more and coming up with more ideas for routine... etc.

Marthasmama · 21/07/2009 11:40

Star - It makes much more sense for DH to do the sleep training thing than you. Q will smell milk on you and won't settle until he has it. DH can settle him much more effectively than you. Q won't remember anything of these early months/years when he's older so it won't affect their relationship. What does he mean it's easy, you do everything, stop trying to act like supermom? Surely by not helping, he's adding to your burden not taking away from it. You are a great mummy.

Ronshar - I don't like Supernanny, I think I'd probably punch her. She's so annoying and seems, a bit thick. We'd make mince meat of her I suspect, imagine her trying to tell CSWS what to do!

CSWS - I had never heard of it either until the dr mentioned it. I was very interested to find out more. Apparently it serves no purpose any more, we have evolved beyond the need for it. It doesn't grow back either so that means they have taken out fat that won't come back again! Yay, yay and thrice yay!

Ekka · 21/07/2009 11:46

Oh b*ugger... Ds has just found the fireplace with all the coals

MM, I'm not surprised you were a little unnerved by having your stiches removed. Just the thought makes me go cold! Take care of yourself, though it must be frustrating not to be able to do anything with M at the moment. Dh's are never quite as attuned to the needs of little ones, and certainly mine is useless at spotting when one of the dcs is going to get into trouble...

Ronshar its good to hear from you, though I'm sorry you've not been feeling great. And having kids does mean a lot of bending down/picking up etc.

Pistachio, I'm quite bad at wandering off leaving the two of them playing, though not very far... I've been more attentive since Matthew crawled out the front door onto his nose

CSWS I hope you enjoy your parents visit.

I think we've clearly established that M is allergic to shellfish. I made a fish pie and gave him some leftovers. He only got the white fish, but I'd forgotten that I'd had some scallops in the sauce and within a few minutes of finishing his meal his face was bright red & blotchy and a bit puffy.... Hes had all the other ingredients several times before, so I can only think it was the scallops....

MM maybe we wouldn't have to pay Dr Tanya, she might do a 'House of Tiny Tearaways' special, or if you aren't keen on the tv publicity we could suggest it as some kind of research project?!?!?

Marthasmama · 21/07/2009 11:49

Ekka - How would we sell it to her though? My problem is with ds who is 6 in a week so the age range for our problems is going to be vast.

ronshar · 21/07/2009 12:12

CSWS, I know I know. I do also have to confess to avoidance tactics. I have read the whole series of Twilight books. OMG they are brilliant.

I agree MM she is a bit in your face. I would also like to think my parenting isnt quite as bad as the families she has on the programs.

Ekka. That is a nightmare for you and M. Unfortunately when there is an allergy of any kind then usually more follow. Hopefully that is it for poor little M.

Right thats it I am leaving home. I have just been in to W as he was awake from morning nap. I think he had been awake for a little while. All his teddies were on the floor. The change mat was on the floor. (His cot is next to the draw unit I use as changing station) He had also taken his nappy OFF. It is too soon for nappy removal. Help me. How do I stay sane with children who are blatantly more intelligent than me.

Marthasmama · 21/07/2009 12:19

Ronshar - M can take a disposable nappy off, she has also learned how to take a top off so now every time DH tries to put a top on her, she takes it off, her cot is next to my bedside table (yes she's still in with us ) and she turns the monitor on and off and on and off then throws it across the room. She has also started the fun game of grabbing something she's not allowed then crawling as far away as she can to hide whilst playing with the forbidden item. She still crawls in a strange way though. She keeps going over to the book shelf, we're going to have to move it....

ronshar · 21/07/2009 12:56

I have lost count of the times I have had to retrace my steps to look for his left shoe! Why the left one???

pepperrabbit · 21/07/2009 13:25

maybe you should try him in a vest with poppers instead of a T shirt for a while ronshar. If he can undo poppers already then you're in really big trouble !

Ekka · 21/07/2009 13:32

Ronshar, when the weather is warm I don't bother with either shoes or socks for that very reason. It does give M something exciting to do in the car though, but he looks a bit funny when I get him out as he usually stuffs the sock in his mouth so its hanging out like a long tongue I think my son is a little strange . Mind you he doesn't seem to have a preference for which foot he takes the sock off.... Thank goodness he isn't advanced enough to take off his nappies....

ronshar · 21/07/2009 13:41

You are both right. I shall dig out the vests again. & put away the shoes.

omg I can't believe they learn to take off their nappies!! . The things they don't tell you...
NOT looking forward to that. I'm keeping him in a onesie so he can't do it!!

MM thank you. And no worries - Q is still in with us in his cot - as we have no other choice and are in a 1 bed maisonette.

Marthasmama · 21/07/2009 19:40

Star - DS never learned to take his nappy off, not until he was in pull ups but then that's sort of the point. I was amazed when M managed it, but she is a little minx!

Myjob - Happy 10 month's to N! In two months she'll be one! Eeeeek!

Honeymoonmummy · 21/07/2009 19:41

Hey all, just a quickie, I made the banana cake and Poppy doesn't like it!! She LOVES bananas as well. Gutted.

MM, BLEUGH to having stitches taken out, I would be very squeamish about that, I can't stand even the thought of it. I'm glad it was OK! I have no idea about the oventum either but any fat removal gets a yay from me!

I've been to a big M & S supermarket today to see if I can find a christening outfit..only one possible but they didn't have my size. You can't order in the shop anymore, you have to do it on the phone or online and pay delivery!!!

Ekka, nightmare re seafood allergy, isn't he sensitive to dairy too? Or am I getting him mixed up with someone else?

Poppy had her 7-9 month check today, no probs. They're closing all the weighing clinics round her indefinitely due to swine flu. There's quite a lot of it round here. Someone I went to school with, her 3 year old daughter has it but seems to be on the mend now.

star6 · 21/07/2009 19:41

lol at supernanny trying to tell csws what to do! ha!
So, we've established a routine...
evening meal
bf
bath
bf
stories
cuddle for a few minutes with mommy/daddy both or whoever is home... so both or mommy
in cot
Doing cry and go in 5 min, then 7, then 10, then 15, and carry on every 15 after that.
He's already showing weakening much earlier tonight.
Now that DH feels like it's "his idea" (it's SO NOT, but well, he thinks he thought of it first so let's leave it that way for now) he's willing to carry it through with me... so now I feel like it will work. It won't work if only one parent agrees and the other disagrees, sabatoges or causes stress. This is better DH had his last day of school today for the year, so he's out with colleagues tonight. Q is in his cot... have to go in there in 8 minutes from now.
