elkie... yeah, i never mashed stuff for ds1 either... had enough of that with dd to last several lifetimes.

it's amazing to watch a teeny baby wrestling chunks of banana into their mouth though isn't it? we had alot of fun blw ds1

over here the official guidlines are 6 months plus for bf babies, between 4-6 months for ff babies... something to do with ff not adapting as well to the babies needs.

herbgarden · 05/07/2009 13:32

Hi everyone...spotty hope you're ok...stw glad you're home and all is well. MOS about the car. Thank goodness it's fixed. Ignore the HV - do things how you want to. You've had 3 kids already so I'm sure you know what you're doing.

Weaning starts here next week in the month before I go back to work and just after my sisters wedding on Friday. A friend is looking after DD on Friday for the day - venue is near a river and we're doing a journey on a boat so the thought of battling with DD and keeping an eye out for DS (bad news when there's lots of you as you always think someone is looking after the toddler when in fact no one is !!)...so anyway didn't think it was fair starting this week and faffing with that too.

Had a nice evening round at my parents last night - took the kids over, put them to bed, had a bbq and then got them out and brought them home again. Saw my sister and fiance - last weekend before they become a married couple. Aaaaah.

Off to another bbq at some friends this pm. DH has just got back from playing golf. I was so not in the mood for two kids on my own this morning but I survived - took them for a coffee and then DS did play with his cars on his own for a while while I had a quick read of the paper .

4 weeks til I go back to work . They are going to fly by aren't they?!..

Have a busy week this week. The car has gone wrong (again) we'll need a second mortgage at this rate. Lots of pre-wedding stuff to do and then DS has a settling in session at his pre-school before he starts in September. I've been telling him about it and he sounds quite excited til I get there and he's clinging to my leg.

Have a nice afternoon everyone

SweetTalkinWoman · 05/07/2009 19:09

Thanks Herb! Wow, only 4 weeks - you're right, they will simply fly by. Lots of BBQ action for you then .

I'm on my own for the 4th night running and getting fed up with it. DH has gone to look at a new motor bike in Milton Keynes - however if I suggest going to see my family in Essex he doesn't want to drive that far and back in a day . Although, if I'm completely honest, I sometimes find it easier when he's not here - bath/bedtime seems so much more relaxed because I know I have to do it all, so I don't get wound up by him doing it "wrong" or having to nag ask him to help.

The house is a mess, but this is one of the things I'm being more relaxed about - not putting too much pressure on myself to have the perfect home. As long as the kitchen and bathroom are clean, we have clean clothes and look presentable when we go out -that's enough for me!!!

I'm going to do a bit of reading up on BLW - it certainly seems more attractive for a second baby. There's just not so much time to do all the pureeing, plus I hope I won't be as paranoid about choking this time round.

Both DC's were in bed by 6.30 while I was watching the Wimbledon final - what an epic! Going to pour myself a glass of wine, then fill in a form to cash in the rest of my premium bonds to cover my maternity leave .

LBB looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning in Kingston - if anyone else fancies joining us we're at the Cafe au Play at 10am!

SweetTalkinWoman · 05/07/2009 19:11

Next door having BBQ with the usual 80's/90's music - currently a bit of Scritti Politti (sp?) - remember them?

littleboyblue · 05/07/2009 19:31

STW You're showing your age there
I don't remember them. I don't reember the 80's. I turned 8 in 1990.

Well Luke had his first meal. Half a mashed banana and the greedy monkey ate all of it! (Half a child's sized banana btw). That was at 5pm and he still polished off 7oz of milk at 6:30!
Pictures on FB if anyone interested

STW I'm really looking forward to tomorrow too, will be good to catch up and get O and J together again.

And like STW says, anyone else is welcome to join us

elkiedee · 05/07/2009 19:59

LBB/STW, enjoy the meet up.

I have to do my first opening up at tomorrow's baby group in a very long time, a bit nervous. It's run by parents who take their babies there - opening and locking up the building, cleaning up at the end if closing and making tea/meeting and greeting if opening. I think last time someone else arrived at the same time who knew as well what they were doing as I did. Another time I stepped in for someone who had an older sick child off school, but she'd done the work by the time I was able to get there adn take over.

SweetTalkinWoman · 05/07/2009 20:32

OMG LBB - I turned 18 in 1990. can't possibly meet you tomorrow now - you're far too young ! Will try to get on Facebook later to check out the snaps! Looks like the first bit of food was a success.

Elkie Good luck tomorrow at the Playgroup - hope your DC's let you concentrate on what needs to be done!

littleboyblue · 05/07/2009 20:48

elkie Goodluck for tomorrow, sure it'll go fine. As you all know, we go mostly to our local sure start centre and they have me reading stories to the whole group, making announcements for the softer spoken staff and on friday, asked me if I'd go in and do some computer work for them as 1 lady has the week off! I don't mind though, quite like having something to do, and I enjoy helping when and if I can.

STW hahahahahahahaha Well you don't look like your 10 years older than me at all. I may be 27 but I'm going on about 40, my dad says I was born 30 something.

Ds1 has finally gone to sleep. he's been standing at his bedroom door crying for just over an hour.......I can't see any other way to get him to learn about bed time though, so we've just been going in and leading him to bed and not saying anything.

PinkTulips · 05/07/2009 21:23

i turned 6 in 1990 but oddly i do remember alot of the 80's (in fact i think the hair and clothes might be indelibly imprinted on my poor traumatised mind )

i finally got my upstairs cleaned! i feel like a weight has been lifted, it was so messy up there ever since i switched the bedrooms around and it was really bringing me down. we just need to scrape together the money for new mattress now and i might actually get a decent nights sleep one of these days sadly the 2 nights in a hotel only served to make me realise that actually i'm not run down, i'm just in agony from our crappy mattress (i use the term mattress loosely, it's a 30 year old piece of padding on a sprung metal bed base... we had no furniture moving here and my parents donated their spare bed)

herbgarden · 05/07/2009 21:31

eeks I was 20 in 1990 ...and I do remember scritti politti...

littleboyblue · 05/07/2009 22:09

I remember wearing a shell-suit......that must have been 80's. And my parents let me get my hair permed. I have a photo of me looking like Angie Watts, there you go, another 80's thing, so I do remeber it after ll

Cocodrillo · 05/07/2009 22:36

OMG I was doing my GCSEs in 1990. I still feel about 17 too. Mirror says NOT though. And yes, I remember Scritti Politti!

STW you must be so pleased to be back home after what sounds like a horrible few days. Hope the tests give some answers at last.

mumoverseas · 06/07/2009 09:04

OMG, nothing like being made to feel old first thing in the morning. I was in the Police Force in 1990

H had a mashed banana for tea last night (after a teeny bit of savoury mush) and he loved it. He is obviously starving and ready for it as he can polish off a whole jar/pot of baby mush. Still rushing around like a nutter at the moment but DH flies back from KSA on Thursday so hopefully I can get a bit of back up/rest.

Can't believe that DS1 is 16 on Wednesday, that makes me feel really old too!

We are off to France next Monday for 10 days and then the day after we get back DS1 is doing his charity parachute jump for GOSH. His original target was £500 but we think he is up to around £1,000 now. His nannie would have been so proud

Nice rainy day here so off to the local shopping mall.

swampster · 06/07/2009 10:29

I met DH at uni in 1990!

herbgarden · 06/07/2009 12:36

Oh dear, just gave DD some pureed pear and she chundered her whole bottle feed all down her and into her bouncy chair. It was revolting. I never had this with DS.....I gave her a bit of my banana this morning and she took that ok. She puked up loads when I gave her some teething powders the other day. I can see the washing machine is going to be well used in the next few months .

PinkTulips · 06/07/2009 13:18

herbie... if it's making her puke i'd talk to the docs before giving her any other solids, she may just not be ready.

herbgarden · 06/07/2009 16:54

I think you're right PT - she's 24 weeks on Friday but I'm happy to wait - she's an average sized baby and not demanding milk all the time - no more than usual so although I "should" be doing it if she's not ready I'm not going to. I think I need to take her to the doctors anyway as she also has had really explosive nappies recently too.....since we've been on holiday.

PinkTulips · 06/07/2009 17:53

keep in mind, she was 5 weeks early and although they do catch up after birth some early babies won't have done so at this stage in every respect... maybe her gut is only 19 weeks old iyswim?

herbgarden · 06/07/2009 18:02

could be and as she's always been sicky I may have to be more careful....

littleboyblue · 06/07/2009 19:27

Evening all.
herb sorry about that sicky episode. Not nice is it?
Luke had another half a banana tonight, he got very excited when the spoon got close to his mouth.
I met STW today for a few hours. Was nice to catch up and see her lo's. They are both very sweet.

How long are you supposed to wait before you introduce a second meal? Not doing it tomorrow or anything, was thinking maybe the weekend so it'll be 1 week on 1 meal, maybe a few weeks on 2 and then 3 meals in about a month......?
Are we all sticking to the 3 day rule? I didn't with ds1, but wasn't aware of it then . I have no reason to believe that Luke will/has any allergies

elkiedee · 06/07/2009 20:00

Hark at all the young whippersnappers - I finished university in 1990.

Opening the baby group went ok, I thought I might be there on my own for a bit as sometimes people are, but the next mum and baby arrived at 1.30 and a few of us arrived quite early in the end.

swampster · 06/07/2009 20:14

I finished in 1989 - 1990 was postgrad

mslucy · 06/07/2009 20:37

I turned 20 in 1990 too - best music evah!
I'm so bloody old I even remember the 70s.
herbie Stan puked up banana when I gave it to him a couple of weeks ago thinking he was STARVING.
Been a bit scared to try much else - he spits out baby cereal - although he does like licking cold cucumber.
Now he has TWO teeth, I might have to give him some other nibbles as well.

herbgarden · 06/07/2009 20:43

LBB I think 3 days should be ok.

I tried some baby rice tonight - it's funny how one teaspoon of rice seems like a weeny amount until you give it to them and it seemed like a lot. She'd clearly had enough once she started to blow raspberries at me and I was covered but she didn't at least chuck it up. I'm going to mix the fruit/veggies with rice tomorrow.

littleboyblue · 06/07/2009 20:59

That's good herb hope it goes well. I figured Luke had had enough when he dribbled the spoonful straight back out, but the bowl was enpty so he wasn't getting any more either way!
