oh bugger, have I skimmed and missed something about MS? I hope you are ok, will go back and re-read now, so sorry

mumoverseas · 09/08/2009 14:01

MS, so very sorry for your loss. Your grandad sounded very much like my dad (ex sailor too) sending you huge hugs as I know how it feels.
I feel so very lonely at times now as I feel I've lost everyone, mum, dad, all my aunts and uncles one one side and on the other side two distant ones I don't really know. Even my cousin died a couple of months ago.
Although I have two brothers we are not close and one wouldn't even acknowledge me at mum's funeral. Very sad and lonely times

I'm sorry I didn't read the earlier post properly and see what had happened. I can't seem to do anything properly at the moment. H has been wide awake since 5.30am and won't sleep. Don't think I've ever been this tired

elkiedee · 09/08/2009 14:07

MarkStretch, sorry for your loss, and MOS, sorry too that so much of your family is gone, and especially that you've lost your mum so very recently.

PinkTulips · 09/08/2009 15:30

tooth + boob = ouch

i am not a teething ring you darn piranha of a child!

mumoverseas · 09/08/2009 16:22

oh dear, poor you PT, I think H's teeth are imminent and he is such a little rat at the moment. He fell asleep about 45 mins ago which is the first time he has slept since 5.30am! Clearly he hasn't read the same books that I have about babies NEEDING 18+ hours sleep or whatever it is
His poor little gums are sore and it obviously hurts him to even eat. Have tried calpol and calgel and not sure what else to do.
Am unable to move in case he wakes up as he is so tired so trapped on sofa.

elkidee thanks for your nice message

littleboyblue · 10/08/2009 07:26

Morning.
Bad night last night. Jacob was up a few times. Then at 2:30am, I woke and heard Luke crying, so went into bedroom and he had fallen out of cot . The side had come away at one end and the poor little thing was on the floor. The mattress is at the lowest setting so he didn't fall far and is fine.
However, I couldn't put him back in cot, so he had to sleep in bouncy chair. It was just gone 4am when he finally fell asleep. Me on sofa.
Jacob came and woke us up at 6. Not sure how I'm going to get through the day. So tired.

bumpsnowjustplump · 10/08/2009 08:56

MOS can we do bw next week as my nieces are over this week I had forgotten.. Any day is fine wiht me... Lets book a day and tie it down shall we!

mumoverseas · 10/08/2009 09:03

morning all,
proud mummy alert. DS1 got most of his GCSE/IGSE results at midnight (so a very late night for me) For some reason IGCSE results out last night, the rest (GCSE) on 27th.
He was a little disappointed as he got
2 x A*, 3 x A and 1 B. He already has 3 x A that he sat early so in total
2 A*, 6 A, 1 B and two more results to go (one is arabic though so not holding our breath )
He was disappointed by the A (english) and ONLY an A in Business studies which he thought he would get an A* in!

LBB hope Luke is ok, what a shock for you. Hope you manage to get a bit of rest today.

bumps next week suits me better as DS1 and DD1 are off with their dad so assuming I can survive the drive up there without reinforcements (ie stopping DD2 throwing things at DS2)that will be good. Think Tuesday and Wednesday are better days for me but can be flexible except can't do Monday as have baby/toddler sign language

bumpsnowjustplump · 10/08/2009 09:22

OK lets do tuesday then. Where shall we meet?

elkiedee · 10/08/2009 09:22

Well done to your DS MOS. I'm sorry that he feels disappointed to have got unstarred As but those sound like perfectly great exam results anyway.

bumpsnowjustplump · 10/08/2009 09:23

Had the night from hell last night and so i am doing nothing today except sitting on my lardy bum....... Both children have summer colds and coughs and both are grumpy because of their teeth...

Owen has been having two solid feeds a day (just fruit and veg) and this morning i tried him with some cereal, thinking that he may need to go up a stage. It is a plum one that is gluton and milk free. I ended up covered in it as he just spat it out so dont think he is ready for 3 solid meals a day yet...

apart from the colds we are all well. Went to a bbq on sat and I ended up wiht a black eye. DP batted a wasp awaay from Jessica but didn't realise I was sitting right behind him so he hit me, bloody idiot. But DS got him back for me, Owen had a poo that escaped his nappy. DP had a sniff without looking and ended up with poo all over his nose and lips.... pmsl i still keep laughing about the look on his face.... it was a bit like this but with a corma nose and lips....

DS is 6 months on the 21st. He can sit up in his chair and when supported but if he is unsuported he does a good impresion of a weeble (wobbling around before eventually hitting the floor, usually face first...) When can they sit unaided for longer. He is however a good breakdancer and does the caterpillar everytime we put him down... Only backwards at the moment.

littleboyblue · 10/08/2009 09:33

bumps at shitface dh! hahahaha, I love it when stuff like that happens. hehehe.
Sorry about your black eye though.

Luke's the same re sitting. I'm sure ds1 was sitting by this time........

I've had to try a few cereals til I found one that Luke likes. We are currently on a Heinz one, fruit bits and yoghurt or something. Laps it up.

mumoverseas · 10/08/2009 13:57

typo earlier, DS got a mere B in english that he was disappointed about not an A. Funnily enough (they've all been on FB all morning) it seems that most of the class got B's or lower and only 1 or 2 got A's which is odd as they'd been predicted A and A*s.
In any event, he already had some good results and only needed to get 1 x B grade to get into his 6th form college so he has sailed through that one and any extra grades out of the two more we are waiting for will be a bonus.

bumps PMSL at your DP. Justice
I'm a bit of a creature of habit when I go to BW and normally park outside M & S and go straight to costa (upstairs along from Boots and Next?) Is that ok? What sort of time are you aiming for? Do you still have my mobile number just in case?

dinkystinky · 10/08/2009 17:20

MoS - huge congratulations to your DS1. Great results. I hope the good news made you all your tiredness disappear for today.

Bumps - sorry the kids are feeling ill and kept you up. Fingers crossed they have a better night tonight. Ouch re your black eye too. Arnica is good for getting the bruise to disappear pdq (and is safe to use while bfing too) - you can use cream on the bruising if need be. PMSL at O getting your DP back though! Wish you'd had a camera to take a pic for O's baby album Danny is 6 months today and can sit for around a minute before toppling - he keeps trying to reach for toys etc and going head first. I think they get to sit really well by around 7 months generally. He's not even on one regular solid feed a day - will basically eat as and when he's trying to grab stuff off me or DS1's plate - so am impressed at O's feeding prowess. Tried him on some banana just now but he's not in the mood so think today is going to be a milk day. Yesterday he was sucking away on carrots for tea and my goodness there have been some evil carroty poos going on today!

LBB - re Luke's cot giving way like that! Talk about a design flaw. I hope its all fixed now and Luke is ok and that your boys let you get some sleep tonight.

MoS - if you're up for meeting up in late August, I am too. Anyone else on for an August London Meetup? More than happy to meet somewhere south or on the southbank if suits more people.

P.s. Pink - DH was indeed delighted that Danny ignored the bling despite my sister deliberately positioning it so it would be the easiest thing for him to grab.

littleboyblue · 10/08/2009 18:56

Thanks dinky. He's in the travel cot for now. I'm taking his original cot back to MC tomorrow for a full refund and we are going to buy ds1 a proper bed and put Luke into ds1's cot. If I remember where the side to that one is........

As Luke is my 2nd, I told myself I wsn't going to spend silly money on everything like you do with your first, so although I went for a cot that was at the low end of the price range, you still expect a big store like MC to provide the best of the best products don't you? And no way should stuff like that happen. Imagine what could have happened if the mattress wasn't on lowest setting? And this is after all the issues with the drop side.
Will be sorted soon enough though.

Luke has done really well on his purees today. Very pleased.

I think I may have to go to bed in a minute though! Luke has been the most miserable git today. The travel cot has been in dp's car and he didn't get it out for me today, so Luke has been having trouble napping. Poor thing is soooooo tired. He won't sleep if I hold him.

thehouseofmirth · 10/08/2009 21:32

Evening all!

LBB that's terrible about the cot though if it were us I'd be blaming DH's assembly skills!

Is Tarran the only one not eating solids (unless a chunk of Saturday's Guardian counts...)? WE'll be going down the blw route but currently he couldn't be less interested.

What are babies supposed to be doing at this stage? I've given away all the reference books I had for DS1 and I can't remember anything! Tarran claps (a lot!), and has been sitting up for about a month now but although he can roll over he doesn't, I think because he hates being on his front so much. By now DS1 was using rolling as a mode of transport. When sitting he does kind of lunging bounce , a bit like yogic flying & I think he's going to be a bottom shuffler. I also caught him trying to pull himself up on the bed. He also seems to need a lot more active stimulation than DS1 who amused himself more and I'm running out of entertainment inspiration!

dinkystinky · 10/08/2009 21:37

Hi THOM - nice to see you on the board! Wow at Mr T's clapping - that's really quite advanced. As is his good sitting up and pulling to standing. I think different babies like doing different things - Danny is very much into rolling and basically proto-commando crawling and can sit for a minute or so on his own. He's better at entertaining himself than DS1 was - but that's probably because he gets more ignored than DS1 did, mostly due to DS1. And wierdly he hates being read to - he will try to eat the books and get frustrated when I dont let him if they're not board books. And Danny too is a big fan of trying to eat things he's not meant to - especially paper - but had a slurp of noodle and gnaw on a date this afternoon (banana was rejected out of hand). As you're going the blw route, am sure T will be scoffing you out of house and home when he does decide he wants to eat solids.

thehouseofmirth · 10/08/2009 22:01

Hi Dinky What is it with babies and paper? I remember buying DS1 a board book once and he'd eaten the entire front cover by the time we got home from the shop!

Am not really worrying about solids. Having read My child Won't Eat when DS1 was about 18 months I now realise some babies aren't interested until 9 months plus so I'm not getting worked up about it.

bumpsnowjustplump · 10/08/2009 22:25

I only started feeds as ds was so interested in food and cryed every time we ate. Also hospital told me to try it early due to his reflux... He wont take puree's though so it is finger foods all the way for us. I love it as he gets very messy!!

Owen is rolling everywhere and going up onto his hands and feet a lot. He does his backwards catapiller as well. if I grab his hands he pushes himself up onto his feet... he has very strong legs and always wants to be up on them.... but after a while his knees buckle and he looks like a drunk... he he he

He is also very good at picking things up. I just leave his food on his tray, even some very small pieces and he picks it up and finds his mouth nearly every time.

elkiedee · 11/08/2009 09:14

We're only starting weaning, planning to do BLW as far as possible though I suspect he'll end up getting spoonfed by others like his CM. C likes to grab at stuff and I've realised I'm going to have to have something for him to grab at every meal now - I suspected last night's food - supermarket chicken pieces in breadcrumbs - had a bit too much salt, and I hope he'll like peas and sweetcorn but they're not ideal for this type of feeding at 6 months. He also loves paper of any kind, especially newspaper - on Saturday in a cafe he destroyed Friday's Sun newspaper - unfortunately he took the front page off first so we kept finding page 3 staring up at us.

PinkTulips · 11/08/2009 11:25

Wow at the clapping thom... that's impressive!

Just to join in the competitiveness discussion A can; wave, give kisses (hand on either side of face and open mouth plonked on your lips), move via an odd mix of caterpiller movements and rolling, pull himself to sitting and standing if you hold out your hands to him (hasn't figured out furnitures potential here yet thankfully) and can sit although i have no idea how long for as he invariably tries to jump to standing and falls over , he's good with his hands too and very giggly, especially for dd... she only hs to look at him and he's in hysterics laughing.

He's cranky as hell today though, think we have another tooth looming

lbb... think i'd be blaming the assembly too if it were our cot, the crib collapsed once with dd in it and i was quickly on the phone to my dad yelling about the bolt he'd neglected to put in

thom, we only started food in the last couple of weeks... it just feels like longer!

dinkystinky · 11/08/2009 12:57

Aah baby kisses - just love those Pink! Danny does the trying to chew your face off thing when hungry - tis very cute if a little painful

OP posts:
thehouseofmirth · 11/08/2009 14:49

See, I'd been wondering if Mr T was waving but figured he wasn't and he was too young. No kisses here yet.

Just been to local perspex supplier & bought an enormous off-cut of mirrored perspex for the grand sum of £3 so he can gaze at himself (all our mirrors too high or heavy).

PinkTulips · 11/08/2009 15:03

A surpirsed the hell out of me by doing it... i was changing his nappy on the floor and we had a friend round and he just lay there really pointedly waving at our friend til he got a response... he sort of sticks his arm out and opens and hand waves. It's very funny though asif you prompt him to do it he gets overexcited and confused and just generally flails his arm about, he has to come up with the idea himself to do it right

Love that perspex idea thom... i don't think we have any such beast as perspex suppliers here sadly
