thom Wow! Mr T sounds like he's doing great! He can do loads!!!!
Ds1 didn't roll much, he hated being on his front. Luke is rolling loads, but then just cries. All the time.
dinky opposite here. Ds1 was much better at entertaining himself than Luke is. I thought ds1 was an awful baby until Luke came along, he just doesn't stop! I'm starting to think maybe because he obviously doesn't get 100% attention, maybe he doesn't feel as secure as ds1 did/does? not really sure what to do about it. I spend as much time with him as I think I can. He'll prob get better when he's on the move.
Dp thinks he'll be a mummies boy and not at all like ds1. Luke can't even handle you turning your back on him.

Gosh, can't believe how much all these babies are doing! Luke rolls. That's it. He can sit for a minute or 2 but then topples over. Luke can cry. And cry, oh and did I mention that he can cry?

I don't think the cot had anything to do with assembly. It was a low-end budget cot tbh and even the woman in the shop today asked me if I'd leaned on it. I said probably and she said that'd be why it broke. She said this particular make was one of the ones that tended to break wtf are they selling it if they know it's rubbish? But they took it back and the mattress, we got a full refund and went and bought ds1 a proper bed so Luke can go into ds1's cot. We didn't get a toddler bed, we just got a normal single bed which means it'll be strong enough for me to get in with him when he's poorly or just moody which'll be nice. Means I can be with him and Luke at same time if need be without sleeping on floor, which I have done.

SweetTalkinWoman · 11/08/2009 19:40

Hi LBB - I think that's shocking about the cot. I thought that even the lower budget items had to meet mimimum safety regs. Makes you wonder about the cheaper car seats etc??? DD is in her cotbed bed - we are getting a normal single bed for her so that Sam can go into her cotbed (I have to return the cot I borrowed for Sam in September).

I have a very low achiever here with Sam! He's not really doing anything in particular, except vomming constantly. 6 bibs and 5 clothes changes today . I don't think it'll be long til he's sitting tho. He's still a real baby baby. BUT, he is smiling loads and showing off his two teeth and that's good enough for me . It's just the two of us tomorrow as DD has here first day at the new childminder's so I'm looking forward to lots of cuddles. Like the rest of your little ones, he tends to get ignored while DD is around .

Haven't managed to catch up properly or post recently, so hope generally all is well. Need to read back to find out about MS but understand not good news.

Just had two black flies in my chardonnay (lalala) which sums up today really!!! Been doing quite a bit of running recently so feeling good and lots of energy - jeans are getting more comfortable but the truth will be told when I get my work clothes down from the loft. I met a couple of the girls from the office last week and had a lovely time in the City - didn't get home til midnight !!! All seems harmonious in the office so am feeling quite positive about going back (beginning October).

August Meetup would be fantastic! Selfishly, South Bank area would be perfect but not sure of suitable venues - any ideas?

Gotta dash as Sam screaming - trying to leave him for a few minutes before popping dummy in - it's becoming a bit of a problem that blasted dummy.....

Sorry not caught up with everyone but will do my homeowrk later....

thehouseofmirth · 11/08/2009 21:12

STW sorry to hear Sam's still keeping your washing machine so busy!

LBB I'm sure you're well organised any way but I have "activity stations" set up for Tarran in our living room (baby gym), kitchen (one of these I got for a fiver on eBay) and my bedroom (toys in cot) so I can take him from room to room. Also, have started playing peekaboo etc and with balls with both the boys together which is really sweet.

Heard some really sad news yesterday. Called a friend I hadn't spoken to for ages and she told me her DS2 who is only 18 months has got cancer. They still don't know how bad it is or his prognosis but the poor little chap is having a big course of chemo to start with. So, so sad.

dinkystinky · 11/08/2009 21:17

Oh THOM am so sorry to hear your friend's news - I really hope they've caught the cancer quickly and her DS responds quickly to treatment.

STW - lovely to see you on the board and lovely to hear that Sam is smiling away. No sign of any teeth yet here (though much drooling going on) so Sam is way ahead of Danny on that score

littleboyblue · 11/08/2009 21:46

STW That's what I thought, that they'd all meet a minimum safety standard, but apparently if you so much as lean on a dropside cot, then it's busted. Seems I have learnt the hard way that a cot is not an area to make cut backs in!
thom I've got something similar for Luke as your link which I picked up from a car boot sale. I do try to have Luke where he can see me when possible but at the same time, I'd like him to be able to be on his own for 2 mins. I know he is very young, and I'm by no means talking about ignoring him or anything, but I want to pee on my own! I'm sure he'll grow out of it, but like Sam, Luke is still in the baby baby stage.
He is perfect when we're out which is good, he is always 'well behaved' when other people are around. Maybe he just doesn't like me
I remember ds1 being a complete rat-bag until he could crawl, and then I think it got easier for him and he wasn't so frustrated all the time. Hopefully that'll be the same with Luke too. I'm hoping that once he can sit up, he can play with ds1 more and get a bit more involved iyswim.

littleboyblue · 11/08/2009 21:47

And thom That is very sad about your friend. Can't begin to imagine what that family is feeling, must be so hard.
Hope they've caught it in time.

mumoverseas · 12/08/2009 09:16

morning all,
THOM so sorry to read about your friend's DS, will be thinking of him and hope as others have said they've caught it in time. It is so unfair when little ones get ill.

LBB shocking about cot. It doesn't matter how cheap it is, it has to be fit for purpose, which clearly it wasn't.

STW sorry Sam is still so sickly and hope he grows out of it soon

bumps still ok for BW on Tuesday (and anyone else who wants to come for a meet up?)Am aiming on getting there around 10am

dinky and STW are you able to get to Bluewater relatively easily?
I'm up for a meet up later in August but have realised I'm running out of time. Can't believe I'm going back to KSA in 4 weeks! DH back the week before I go so will be rushing round like lunatics then as DCs 1 and 2 both go back to (different) boarding schools that day which typically are in opposite directions to where we live!

Hope everyone is ok. I've got the headache from hell today which doesn't bode well. Want to try to do as many 'fun' things as possible with DD2 as it seems that when she is at home not doing much that is when she is a destructive little rat. Not really much to do around here though without spending huge amounts of money!

dinkystinky · 12/08/2009 09:26

Morning all. MoS - good luck with entertaining DD2 today! Am to say have never been to Bluewater as is over the other side of London to me - though if everyone else is up for meet up there would be more than happy to try to get there.

STW - plenty of places on the Southbank. If weather is nice, there is the grassed over green bit outside the National Theatre which has music etc in the summer holidays. If yucky, you have the Tate Modern or Giraffe which are fairly child friendly.

thehouseofmirth · 12/08/2009 10:23

Morning!

I'd be up for a South Bank meet up. DS1 loves the fountains & there's the playground too as well as the stuff Dinky mentioned.

MOS meant to ask you, what was the farm you mentioned with maize maze? If it's nearish to you then it must be within striking distance for us too here in Wimbledon.

Think Mr T has got chicken pox. We've had confirmed contact. He's only got about 10 spots today and had a few yesterday which I thought were insect bites as I've got one and he'd been lying in the grass but I think more likely it's the pox. It's not dangerous for a baby his age, is it?

PinkTulips · 12/08/2009 10:40

lbb, my parents bought a cheap ass drop side cot, the cheapest available as it was intended for us to use when visiting them. They gave it to us to use at home when we moved house though and it's now been used by all 3 babies. The older two regularly stand on the drop side to peer in at A, i have leaned on it with almost my full weight dropping dd in when preg with ds1 and the older 2 learned to pull up to standing using the drop side. Cheap stuff doesn't have to be poor quality, if i were you i'd be writing a letter of complaint to mothercare and to the cot manufacturer... Luke could have been badly hurt by what happened and the fact that they sell poor quality furniture is despicable.

thom, how heartbreaking for your friend... i hope to god it was caught early and he makes a full recovery.

mumoverseas · 12/08/2009 14:51

afternoon all
dinky you've never been to Bluewater!

THOM the farm near us is called Tulleys Farm (www.tulleysfarm.com) We've been going there for years. Started off with a little farm shop and PYO and have expanded over the years. Now have a lovely tea rooms (great lunches too) with a garden area with animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, goats and birds etc) and a play area and sandpit which is all free to get in.
Every year they do the Maize maze, think this year is the 12th year. It used to be just the maize but now they have lots of extra stuff for the little kids. Barrel and wagon rides, bouncy castle, bouncy slide, trampolines, sandpits etc and all included in the admission price (think around £7 per adult and £4 or £5 for 2 years plus although the prices vary as they do family tickets.

It is a really good day out, we were there for hours! They sell the usual sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream etc.
Let me know if you are going and we could meet up as its literally 5 mins from me

Hope Mr T is ok. I'm pretty sure its ok at that age in fact I'm sure a lot of people actually have chicken pox parties as they prefer their LOs to get it when they are younger

PinkTulips · 12/08/2009 14:57

ouch, missed that about T having the pox thom.... hope he has an easy ride of it poor love. I don't think it's dangerous but might be worth ringing the gp... they can prescribe some soothing cream if nothing else

mumoverseas · 12/08/2009 17:03

I have a question for you ladies about the child trust fund. I think its £250 they get when born. Do you have to actually claim it or is it automatically triggered when you apply for child benefit?

Lovely day at the local park today and just done a run to the tip and got rid of loads of greenery from the front garden. Went a bit mad at the weekend with a saw and chopped down loads of bushes!

littleboyblue · 12/08/2009 20:46

thom Poor Mr T!!!!! Hope you're all coping ok with it. Must be awful this young.

PT It is shocking isn't it? re the cot. But like we all say, no matter what your budget, you should be able to get things that are safe.
The important thing is that Luke is ok, and wasn't hurt, thank God.

We've had a lovely day today. We all (me, dp and ds's) went on a trip to the seaside that was organised by sure start centre. Lots of families went, 3 coaches full.
Was a little windy, but was nice. Ds1 actually went in the sea! He was so good all day. Very good on the 2 hour coach journey (this is without a car seat) and back, and really good all day there too. I am a very proud mummy today.
Luke is now doing well with purees and finger foods. he loves the organix snacks that you can get, you know the carrot sticks and sweetcorn rings etc. also loves cucumber, toast, banana, melon, peach.
Luke was sitting on my lap at lunch, he grabbed my cheese sandwich pulled a big chunck off a shoved it in his mouth! Little monkey. told my friend, she said that was really good, and I was thinking, well, no, it was my sandwich!
Football on so am bored now. Might go to bed......

littleboyblue · 12/08/2009 20:48

mos re child trust fund. I really don't remember! I'm sure it's automatic, but not certain. I don't remember applying for it for Luke. But I can't be sure. Damn this baby brain

dinkystinky · 12/08/2009 21:46

THOM - Poor Mr T. Am sure he'll be recovered soon - Nkweto and her 2 had chicken pox a few months back and I think little Alexandra tolerated it ok. Just keep feed, feed, feeding the little one to keep his fluids up while he fights the pox off.

LBB - sounds like you had a lovely day today. Well done to DS1 for being such a superstar.
Had nice day here - lots of walking around London (got a month to go till I go back to work now so need to make a concerted effort to get into my work clothes again) to take Danny to baby massage then over to a baby group in another area of london then back home. Danny really enjoyed himself and has suddenly mastered staying sat up for 10 minutes or so at a go.

littleboyblue · 12/08/2009 21:48

Go Danny I realy need to make a proper effort to spend some time with Luke practising the sitting
