I just got my application/info e-mail about the breast feeding counsellor training. I looks like it's pretty flexible so I think I'll take it forward. I will need to speak to DH first as there is an element of residential training.

heather1980 · 20/05/2009 12:51

it must be the night for illness and no sleep. dd didn't go to bed till 11pm! i put her down at 7pm but got her back up when she wouldn't settle. my own fault really, the 3 of us fell asleep on the sofa in the afternoon and she never sleeps well if she has a nap in the day.

alex was up a few times but i'm a wimp and he is still fed to sleep. it's hard when dh has to be up for work so i'm a bit wary of letting him cry.

can't remember who posted the falafel recipe, but we had it for dinner yesterday and it was yum. alex loved it.

no grey hair here thank god, dh has loads but he has dark hair so it shows more.

star6 · 20/05/2009 13:00

ok was it ronshar? who said if you're in their stroking his cheek and he's still crying you let him cry? I've thought this before... maybe I should just let him cry since I'm RIGHT THERE with him... it's not like I've abandoned him... but I keep picking him up. I am a sucker for his sad face and eyes pleading to be held...

star6 · 20/05/2009 13:04

Thanks everyone. Loulou - I will go back and see if I can get a referral. As I'm american (I know, not an excuse!) I'm never sure what's included and what's not on NHS so usually end up paying for lots of stuff. Yes, I do pay taxes here (and in the US... ).

Just been to feed Q and I put him for a nap before I left... fed to sleep - again! I love being able to go spend a couple of hours with him during the day at work

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/05/2009 13:41

loulou - where on earth did you get your 60% figure from? I believe that they are around 98% effective if used properly.

Grey hair here is gradual and just looks a bit like highlights. My hair has always looked like it has highlights anyway, but doesn't, so the grey just blends in in much the same way.

MM - dh is looking for work, but the market is really quite flat at the moment, and even if he was prepared to take a perm job at low pay, no-one would give him one because he's so overqualified/experienced that they wouldn't believe that he would stick at it (which would prob be true). Another contractor friend went for a £50k perm role, and they wouldn't even give him that for the same reasons. The job that I am looking at is perm. Dh would look after the children whilst he's not working, but if he got offered something great then we'd have to look for a childminder/nanny pdq! Dh doesn't want me to work either, but we will still have a few weeks for him to find something before I am committed to anything, if I even get offered the job. It seems that there aren't many from my time still working there, which will make it harder to just waltz back in.

Ronshar - sorry about PMS. I think sleep deprivation makes me drop stuff as i haven't had AF yet and the 5am starts kill me. I dropped a whole tub of bluberries this morning and i found one an hour later at the other end of the room. i suspect more will be found for months to come (i am not a thorough cleaner like Star and Jenwa )

I have discovered loads of grey hair since Joe was born - never had them before. maybe the stress of 2 children is to blame. I deffo have more wrinkles too - oh joy!! I am off to the hairdressers soon and have planned trips to glasgow and ikea when Joe is in nursery for more hours - can't wait (sorry Joe!)

myjob - i have been playing 'jewel thieves' with ds1 as Joe is asleep - this seems to involve me stealing stuff and being sent to prison. What the heck does that mean ?

my family planning leaflet said 65%, i will check though if i can find it. i think this percentage includes a lot of teenages, who are the biggest users of condoms and yes, its very easy not to put them on correctly - i remember the lectures at school. Teenagers are also less likely after a condom accident to seek advice (hence low protection rate) whereas Myjob, i'm sure you are much better at using them

Ronshar - Friday night bum sex page - there's one? You are so much better informed than me

Honeymoonmummy · 20/05/2009 15:42

Hi all! Sorry I haven't read back yet. I've just booked church for baptism, can you let me know good sites/ shops for christening dresses please? I suppose I need to get something for Poppy to wear too....

Marthasmama · 20/05/2009 18:41

M&S have a lovely simple one that doesn't cost too much. It also has a matching cardigan. Martha liked it when she saw it

Poor Naomi and poor you Ronshar - PMT is the pits isn't it. I haven't had it badly this time round and will be curious to see how it pans out, as normally I get it really badly.

Myjob - Some people definitely don't use condoms properly. A friend of mine was a nurse in a sexual health clinic and she told me about someone who used to dry them on the radiator and re-use them.

Star - I found an article by Elizabeth Pantley (who wrote my book) about the Pantley Pull Off method to help you break the feed to sleep association here.

CSWS - I'll have another look at the book and see whether it mentions anything about lengthy night wakings. You don't sound like you really want to go back to work. I hope you and your ds can find a good solution.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/05/2009 20:26

Gah - ds still up (normally bed is 7ish). He took a 10 min nap at 6 and it seems to have been a real power nap . He'd better go to bed before the apprentice or we'll be having words!

Aubergenie, I thought you were still talking about contraception methods not BF & sleep.

Ladies there is always a Friday night bum sex thread on Mumsnet. It may not start off that way but always ends up there!!!
Feeling better now. I went round Sainsbury and have bought every diff kind of cake that was on offer. Battenburg, almond slices, marble cake and to finish it off Toffee Crisp bars. Marvelous. Now I have to decide what to eat first.

Start with the toffee crisp rinshar

Yes i thought Aubergenie was talking about sex still too, maybe this thread will digress to friday night bum sex too......roll on friday

Marthasmama · 20/05/2009 20:37

Aw Myjob - Poor N! I hope she (and you) gets some sleep and feels better in the morning. I did have a lovely time in Canterbury thank you. I took a coat back to Gap which had been recalled (which was too small anyway ) and got some lovely summer bits instead. I also got another nursing bra which cost £40 - stupid enormous norks!

Aubergenie - I get terrible PMT too. I get really depressed and can feel myself being unreasonable. I've not noticed it as much but then I have been grumpy and not very happy anyway due to the lack of sleep. This was my first real period since M and I had a really achy back.

CSWS - I really hope DH can find something so you can stay home with D, especially as it is what you all want.

M is refusing to sleep tonight and hasn't wanted any food today so I think we're in for a bad night. Poo.

Marthasmama · 20/05/2009 20:40

Ha! I took so long writing that I didn't see the rest of the posts. I am SOOOOO glad that I'm not the only one that read 'Pull off method' hmmm..... Oh, she's talking about bfing & sleeping. I forgot to add about the drying condoms! I won't tell DH, he is very tight so would probably think it a great money saver!

ronshar · 20/05/2009 20:44

Why are the babies ill again? Poor Naomi. Have you got some menthol crystals? Is she blocked or just hot?
I have already had a Toffee Crisp

ronshar · 20/05/2009 20:47

MM hwere did you get your nursing bra from? I bought a new one yesterday from Mothercare in Brighton. Rubbish fit. I got sucked in again. I dont know why I bother, Mothercare bras are rubbish!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/05/2009 20:47

I thought that you were dairy free ronshar? I'd love a toffee crisp. I did eat lots of Waitrose dark choc with amaretti last night - yum. Wonder if the caffeine in that could be keeping ds awake? He did sleep excellently during the day today though (2hrs 20mins in one go, which was it apart from the 10 min power nap), so perhaps not.

Poor naomi.

I like the dress that mm linked to, but will nose for some others later, if ds ever farking goes to bed!

I just re-read my post. Oops

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/05/2009 20:51

Ooh this is lovely. Dd's Christening dress was a Sarah Louise one.

OP posts:
jenwa · 20/05/2009 20:52

haha re the drying condoms, how mad is that! Actually not really haha but more It is odd what people do!

Hope N is ok myjob poor little thing.

ronshar I have my period so can you hand me some toffee crisp bars please
I get the worst ache in my bum, I think it was from having a 3rd degree tear with dd1, I get so much throbbing there when I come on and stand for too long on the first day. feel fine otherwise but bloody heavy and last few times have leaked super plus and night time towel hoping they are getting lighter
HM bhs do nice baby stuff, seen bridesmaid stuff so maybe they do christening too? Next nice to and what MM linked.

loulou i was mortified when dd spilt her beads all over the floor and I found them under the sofa afew days later it then makes me think I have to check it more! How sad am I!
I washed the floors and cleaned out sofas today then spilt pasta on the floor tonight so it is sticky now! I scooped some in to a bowl to save and completely missed and also just missed my feet which DH said would have been really funny if I had it splatted in my toes

aubergenie · 20/05/2009 20:52

Ooh and I meant to say, I sold some bits on Ebay and I'm sure that one of the buyers was to a fellow MNer. She's quite a prolific poster and her Email address is her MN name. I wanted to say something but thought it was probably bad form.
