Pink- that's a shit start to the day. Hope things get better. How did you pay for the oil? Can you show them a bank statement or cheque stump or something?

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 12:55

nope, paid cash like i always do.... the only 'proof' i have is my bank statement saying i payed the rent a week late as i used the rent money to pay for the oil..... which proves nothing to anyone but me!

MS... ditch the rice, blw is way more fun

MarkStretch · 06/05/2009 13:27

Ahhh that's a bugger pink. I was thinking about BLW but I haven't read up about it yet.

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 13:57

woohoo... it wasn't the ditzy blonde PHN, was the nice one who we like. aaron smiled at her like mad, rolled from back to front for his first time for her benefit and generally showed off like the little ladies man he is he's 6.18kgs (13lbs something) so just average on the charts but she's happy with him.

she was delighted to hear i'm planning on doing blw, weighed the older two and measured them while she was here (dd has had weight issues and hasn't been checked in ages).

so happy not to have had that annoying ditzy one again

mslucy · 06/05/2009 15:14

hey there ladies.
sorry to hear some of you are having a shit day.
DH was a complete arse about a month after Stan was born, but now being pretty cool again.

dinky/elkie - are you still up for pushy mums on Fri?

I am in a GOOD mood today cos we heard that DS1 has a place at a good school for Jan and is high up the waiting list at the lovely school he goes to nursery at.

I would like him to stay put but the other school also has outstanding ofsted and he knows quite a few kids there. So whatever happens, it will be fine, which is a major relief after reading all the articles about the acute shortage of primary school places.

Yes, I was worrying about it in the middle of the night - what a dull middle class cliche I have become!

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 15:30

Hi Mslucy - congrats on the school place for DS1: must be a huge relief! Yup, am pushy mothering on Friday...

MS - am going the baby led weaning route with Danny as did the whole pureed experience with DS1 and he was, and still is, a rubbish eater. Am hoping with BLW, Danny'll be abit more interested in food as opposed to DS1 who could really could not eat all day and not be bothered... And besides, why would Frankie want yucky baby rice when he can have his mum's yummy cooking which has had everyone on our board drooling for months?

Pink - glad the health visitor thingy visit went well. Impressed at Aaron doing his rolling trick - Danny is still nowhere near rolling though does a comical kick/squirm combo off his activity mat...

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 16:02

he's been able to do it on a slight incline for a while but he was on the flat today... think his big fat cotton nappy being off helped matters! was very funny as she wasn't expecting it and had a little panic attack and grabbed him up just as he got himself over and he was a bit cross to be thwarted like that

MS, dinky's right, it would be cruel to shovel rice at frankie while he watches you all eat your droll inducing food

purrees are horrible anyway, dd used to plaster the room in purreed gunk whacking the spoons out of our hands, drove me mad!

mslucy · 06/05/2009 16:10

Stan's already eyeing up food (like his big brother before him) - esp fruit.

He definitely knows he's missing out when he sees us eating.

It's cool that we'll be weaning them in the summer when there will be loads of juicy berries around for them to nibble on.

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 16:22

ds1 stole some potato from my plate at barely 22 weeks... he and wallace's little boy were the first babies to be blwed a bit earlier than 6 months as they took matters into their own hands

aaron isn't bloody massive like ds1 though so he'll most likely be happy to wait til 6 months without resorting to dinner theft!

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 17:43

Sigh... still no builder today despite him having promised me this morning that he'll be at our property today. Wouldnt mind so much but it was DH who decided that he'd like to use this builder as he liked him and who gets to do the chasing/nagging/living through the chaos when he is here????

Went to a mum and baby group at lunch time today and they had this soft crinkly foil paper there that was seriously like catnip for babies - they all loved it, regardless of their ages, and ignored the other millions of toys around. Danny still doing the amazing screaming non-sleeping baby with cold routine though DS1 seems to be starting to feel better...

Evening ladies.
Re weaning, I think I'm going to do a mixture. I did purees with ds1, but because he was PFB, I was uite nervous about giving finger foods, so he didn't have so much as a rusk until he was about 10 months.
This time, I'll def start with purees but will offer finger foods with each 'meal'.
Ds1 ate loads really uickly, and I went with what he seemed to be able to manage. He was on 3 solid meals a day within the week, so it meant that I dropped the milk feeds pretty quick too. Once he started weaning, he lost all interest in milk and from about 9 months, was a battle to get him to have 1 bottle a day. He still only has one cup a day now, but only if I mix in a spoon of nesquick.
I'd like Luke to drink milk so may hold back on offering more meals for a while iyswim.

littleboyblue · 06/05/2009 17:50

on your behalf about the builder.
Good news that ds1 is getting a bit better, lets hope Danny's not far behind

thehouseofmirth · 06/05/2009 18:35

Dinky I've just ordered one of these. They're fab for babies as they're shiny and crinkly and I love them because they don't take up any room.

Another fan of BLW here. I think it's especially good for bf babies because they're already used to being in charge of their eating habits. No way could I face all that puree preparation only to have it thrown all over the kitchen. Much harder to reduce me to tears with a floret of broccoli!

littleboyblue · 06/05/2009 18:38

Also meant to say, I think we may be closer to potty training than I thought......ds1 for the past few days has been nappy free after dinner time (not using a new nappy for half an hour) and when he's pee'd, he's looked down and said wee-wee, so he knows what it is, def buying a potty this week.

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 19:32

That's the bunny THOM - Mr T is in for a treat! Bet you he'll still be wrapped up in it for the next meet up...

Speaking of next meet up - June is mooted. MoS - when are you in the country and what dates work for you for a London meet up? Nkweto - when you tune in next from your lovely holiday - what dates work for you in June? We can then work it out from there.

Evening all. DS is now on starvation diet and wont feed for more than 5 mins at a time..... He owes me big time when he is older for all this stress!!!! Sorry for your bad day pink I hope it got better....

I did a mix of weaning when DD was little. We started at 6 months and she had finger food from the start but also had mashed food...

I have asked Dr to refer me to another hospial as the one they refered me to have no appointments until June 30th

SweetTalkinWoman · 06/05/2009 19:58

Hi there - having sporadic computer problems AGAIN - aarrgghhh!

PT what a crap start to the day - and at the rolling over! You're right, the first few months put a great strain on relationships... which is why I would appreciate DH not leaving the house at every given opportunity. He says it's because he has lost his identity ....

Dinky at your builder. We;ve had a bit of work done recently, the kitchen and patio, and have been pleasantly surprised about the reliability of the guys, although I know that's the exception rather than the rule.

Re. weaning, dare I admit it - I followed Gina Ford's weaning guide and DD is a superb eater (well, at the moment all she asks for is jelly...) but then she really was textbook in everything until she hit 18 months, then suddenly became a 2 year old! Like you LBB, DD was a typical PFB and I would have been too scared for BLW. I have a feeling that Sam is going to be force fed raisins before too long!!

In the space of typing that, I have been upstairs 3 times to Sam - he seems v unsettled this evening and has another cold and troublesome skin again, so I think the poor thing is just uncomfortable . I can wait until I can start giving him drugs for all this!

THOM I love the blanket! What a great idea - it's alway the non-toys that are the winners.

LBB I'm hoping that Sam starts to turn his head more the other way soon. I'm hopeful the pillow will help and I'm always positioning toys and noise on his left side to get him to turn that way. So is DS1's head a bit flat? I didn't notice when I met him. Hope the book is still gripping - I've made a note of it so that when I get a grip and stop reading the Baby Whisperer I will look for it in the library!

Better go now, lots to do before my favourite TV show - The Apprentice. Late night for me. And I need my beauty sleep 'cos I'm taking Sam up to my office in the City tomorrow for a girls' lunch!!!

SweetTalkinWoman · 06/05/2009 20:11

lardybump sorry to hear DS is not feeding well - must be so stressful, but will they thank you ... I must admit, it's only now I have children that I realise what my mum went through and sacrificed etc! Hope you get another referral and a speedier appointment.

limelion · 06/05/2009 20:27

Greetings all,

Difficulties here too on the relationship front . Among other things it seems DP has a fear of being left alone with the kids, before Emil he was quite happy to spend time with ds1 alone but now avoids it all costs. This morning I returned from the shower to Emil screaming his little head off in his cot, I asked DP why he hadn't picked him up and he said that I would know what?s wrong. Not hard to figure out I could smell his dirty nappy from a mile off.

I will look into BLW, but from what I can remember I was quite satisfied when ds1 would wolf down my concoctions of pureed fruits and veg. Weaning seems a long way off at the moment as Emil takes a maximum of 4 oz of feed. Starting to get concerned as in 3 months he has put on 2.5lb, which doesn?t seem enough. I guess he is just waiting for all that scrummy food.

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 21:18

Evening all. Lardy - at the hospital not being able to see your DS for almost 2 months - that's terrible. Hope GP refers you to another hospital v quickly and they can help quickly. Just do lots of short feeds for DS - he's clearly just thirsty if doing little feeds (so great that he's not getting dehydrated) but not hungry yet (which makes sense with an upset tummy). He'll get better on the feeding front when the tummy upset passes. And save up all these stories to trot out when he's going through sleepless nights with his little ones...

STW - I want your builders! Hope Sam settles down soon - its horrible when your little one is ill and you cant give them anything. On Spotty's previous recommendation I've invested in some calpol plug ins now Danny is 3 months (cant believe he's 3 months already!) so fingers crossed it helps him out tonight with his sleep.

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 21:21

Ps Limelion - you'll probably find that Emil will pile on the weight when he does get onto solids. I have to admit that formula isnt particularly appetising (had a swig of it once, never again) so sympathised with DS1 when he wasnt keen on it - food has to be better than that. The disgustingness of formula is probably why LBB's DS1 took to food so keenly!!

OP posts:
thehouseofmirth · 06/05/2009 21:27

LBB sounds like he is starting to be ready, I'd get a potty now & just have it around for him to get used to the idea of with no pressure.

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 21:57

dinky... the few times i tried to give dd formula she spat it at me and screamed blue murder

and tbh i couldn't blame her one bit, it smelt odd, it looked odd and i couldn't for one milisecond imagine it tasting good

littleboyblue · 07/05/2009 08:00

STW Ds1's head is completely flat at the back. You can't really notice it now unless you know about it because of the hair.
Luke's started to go a bit on the side,so the top of his head comes up higher on one side!
dinky hahahaha, probably! I too have tried formula and it is really not nice! I started feeling guilty making ds1 drink it, awful stuff. Cow & Gate does taste a litle better than SMA, but not much
thom I've been meaning to do it for a few weeks now, just so it's here, I can put it under him mid-flow so he sees the pee collecting and like you say, just take a nice, slow, relaxed approach.

Dp is very at me. He's back on days now so is here overnight and it seems that because there's someone else in the house, my body is going into shut down and I'm sleeping through ds's waking
I'm not doing it intentionally, but don't think dp believes me. Not sure what to do about it. He can't win, because if he wakes me, I start slamming around

My dad and his sister are coming over this afternoon which will be nice. Would it be really rude if I went to bed when they got here?
