Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lardybump · 05/05/2009 21:17

Hello all. Lion I have the opposite problem my dd who is 2 is getting left out because DS who is 10 weeks is so poorly and just eats all the time. I feel so bad because up until now she has been the center of my world and now I get very little time with her. DP is now her No 1 .

Well GP has refered me to paediatrician (sp?) as she feels that I really do need a different medication and also further tests to confirm it is reflux!! With regard to the poo she has sent a sample off for tests but she thinks it is linked to the amount he is sick and is due to DS not getting enough food. She has told me to feed as much as poss, which goes against the advise from dr at A&E who said feed less often....

Anyway DS is out for the count now and wont wake up till the early hours. I wish he would have a later feed around 9 or 10 but he wont wake up and I was always told never to wake a sleeping baby... What do you all do??

Cocodrillo · 05/05/2009 21:17

Did you fancy Hercules a bit, LBB? I know exactly who you mean!

Cocodrillo · 05/05/2009 21:21

lardy sorry DS is still poorly. I never ever wake a sleeping baby, I tend to think if they are hungry they will wake by themselves?

Does the doc think he is actually dehydrated though? Did you tell her the A+E doc said the opposite, re the feeding?

SweetTalkinWoman · 05/05/2009 21:24

Ooh yes- I love a good read! An amazing evening so far here. Both kids down at 7pm and I haven't been upstairs since.... Tonight is Sam's first night with his new pillow for his flat head so I have high hopes that it will miraculously turn him into a good sleeper.

We are cold infested here too. I have spent all day wiping DD's nose, Sam is snotting and coughing, and I have a sore throat.

Dinky sorry you have had a rubbish day . I hope and DH get to talk it over. DH and I had a heart to heart yesterday morning - not sure whether it made things better. In fact, some of the things I wish I didn't know .

I'm going to meet some friends from the office on Thursday which I'm looking forward to. I hope Sam's skin has cleared up - he looks and smells a bit funny again.

Littlesez so good to hear everything going well for you!

THOM thanks for your FB message! Just feeling a bit low about the sleeping at the moment. Am reading the Baby Whisperer from cover to cover and did a bit of shush-patting this evening. By the way, I love the pictures of Tarran - he has a really cheeky smile .

Just realised I haven't done the bottles for the night (we get through a fair few!) so better dash. Sorry I haven't caught up with everything, but hope generally you are all doing well?

littleboyblue · 05/05/2009 21:30

lardy I woke ds1 for feeds through the night and in the first few weeks I did with Luke. I leave him now to wake on his own. I am 100% convinced that if I hadn't woken ds1, he'd have slept through alot quicker, if you wake them, it'll soon turn into a pattern and habit rather than hunger IMO/E. Although we've had no weight issues, so I may think differently if we did........I don't think a hungry baby would sleep though, but if there are weight issues atm, maybe you should try to give a late night feed. I don't know.
Sometimes Luke wakes at 10/11 but that doesn't affect him waking at 2/3 either way. He wakes at 2/3 regardless of being fed or not being fed at 10.
We saw a paed for ds1's reflux. They didn't do any official tests though as I was told they'd need to see it happening on an x-ray and as there's no guarentee at what stage it actually happened, they wouldn't ut a baby through an x-ray that could possibly last hours. The other way they said they tested was to insert a camera down the throat but is obviously quite invasive so they wouldn't do that either. Our paed was confident that if I said it was reflux, it was reflux and ds1 was put on a specialist formula.
Coco No, I didn't fancy Hercules, I didn't even watch it, that's just the image the writter puts across IMO, Jack Reacher is well over 6 foot, is very largly built, has golden hair which I'm sure in a few of the early books was shoulder length. It's just great how he always stunbles on these Government conspiracies or a damsell(sp?) in distress and always comes out on top. [swoon]

littleboyblue · 05/05/2009 21:33

STW I was thinking about Sam and his head earlier as I was putting Luke to bed. The past few night's Luke has been turning his head onto the other side on his own, so hopefully his head won't get quite as bad as ds1's!
Hope the pillow helps.

swampster · 05/05/2009 21:55

Lardy, when DS3 was slow to gain weight, jaundiced, and not pooing much I was told I had to wake him up every two hours for feeds. You can't really overfeed when you are breastfeeding. I'd wake him.

limelion · 06/05/2009 00:08

Thanks for all your reassuring comments.

I guess it?s a case of just making sure I get 1 on 1 time with each of them.

LBB, don?t worry I knew what you meant the first time. I am very impressed about how helpful you ds1 is. Here we got off on the right track and ds1 would get involved but lately the novelty has worn off and he has just realised ds2 is here to stay much to his dismay.

Pink, in reflection I guess it?s more of a selfish thing really ds2 knows nothing else really, since ds2 was born ds1?s behaviour has been more challenging but at the moment ds2 is all smiles and coos and more of a pleasure to be around and I just wish we had more alone time together.

Katie, ds1 does go to nursery for a couple of hours but ds2 tends to fall asleep on the way and as its the only time of day his sleep is interrupted so I don?t really want to be medalling with that. I think I will try and keep ds2 up in the evening for some play time.

Crocodrillo, i guess I can take heart in the fact that ds1 will start school this year and then I?ll get more time with ds2 when he?ll start to demand more attention.

Lardy, sorry to hear your little one is poorly. From my experience waking a sleeping baby doesn?t work, Emil was falling down the centiles on the growth chart so hv advised waking him up for an extra feed in the evening as he was sleeping 10 hours at night but Emil either refuses to wake and if he does wake up he refuses any milk. So waking a sleeping baby is pointless in my opinion.

littleboyblue · 06/05/2009 01:43

limelion When my ds1 realised the baby was here to stay,he got violent towards him. I think we are starting to come out of that now
The only thing ds1 won't do now is put nappies in the bin, I think he's realised I've been making him tidy up for me

limelion · 06/05/2009 07:59

LBB, Good to hear your little one is beginning to accept the new baby. Anything I suggest to ds1 is a no no. Even if I suggested going to the park or something nice he would just be negative and say it was boring. I hope it just a phase, in the meantime i'll have to work on my powers of persuion.

thehouseofmirth · 06/05/2009 08:07

Morning all! How are we all today?

Is anyone else's baby going to bed later and later? Mr T was up with us until 10pm last night. I don't really mind as he's sleeping really well at night and it also means we get a couple of hours alone with him when DS1 has gone to bed. But at some point it would be nice to have a bit of evening. I think DS1 did the same but can't remember at what point he started going to bed earlier.

Lardy sorry to hear about your problems. Can't help thinking feeding more rather than less is better.

PolkSaladLucie · 06/05/2009 08:45

Morning!

THOM M tends to nap for 20 mins after her 7pm feed, and then wakes until 9.30 - 10pm. Then we all go to bed together.

lardy - We're having the same dilemma re: waking/not-waking. We always did wake her for her last feed (10-12) but we stopped that and she went straight through but she now does 7pm to 7am, effectively cutting out 2 feeds. She she only has 4 feeds a day - we've upped the bottles to 6oz, but she usually only has bewteen 4oz and 5oz. I'm a bit worried, but she's never been a hungry baby, and hasn't wanted more during the day, so maybe I'm just very lucky!

littlesez - Good to see you back! Well done you on the bf - makes me feel guilty for giving up when I did because of the pain .

KT1983 · 06/05/2009 08:51

morning all, just a quick hello, as I seem to have a 101 things to do this morning!! Good job the weather is rubbish so I wont be tempted out.

Im goin for a eye test this afternoon, since I had Poppy ive been getting terrible headaches. I thought it was tiredness at first, but seen as she sleeps great now, im getting plenty of sleep - So think it must just be my eyes playing up.
Not sure I can afford the cost of glasses/frames....but guess it will have to be done!

il try catch up with everything later on, hope your all doing ok xx

Cocodrillo · 06/05/2009 09:07

Hi all, really baffled today as DD2 has woken vomiting this morning, same as on Monday, but now seems fine (same as on Monday)? This doesn't sound like a normal tummy bug... surely she would be ill in between times! Totally confused...

mumoverseas · 06/05/2009 09:29

morning all, just checking in briefly (now that I found you) as rushing round a bit today. can't believe that DS1 has his final day at school today and is just going back for exams. Makes me feel very old

Hope all those who were sick or had sick LO's are better, lardy, dinky and probably a few others.

Welcome limelion, don't worry, you are not alone with the situation ref other kids. My DD2 is 2.7 and we've had the usual issues. It does get better

MS, glad you had a good time at the wedding and well done that lovely man(or was he just trying to get you into his hotel room?)

PT, I found out this morning when I went to the med centre to get H weight that there is the same issue here ref jabs at 2,4 & 6 months. I thought it was 2,3 and 4 which is what I had for DC's 1,2 & 3 but it seems each country is different. UK is 2,3,4, KSA is 2,4,6 and apparently Oz is different. Causes probs as we have quite a few different nationalities on this compound so they said to stick with just one schedule and use that one so we are going with the UK one and need to quickly book an appt for H to go to the hospital next week for them. PITA but I'd rather do it all properly if you see what I mean, especially as I'll be back in the good old UK for 13 weeks in the summer

For those of you that commented on H's 'movement' a few days ago, he wasn't rolling, he was sort of shuffling down with his feet. He manages to push them down on the floor and shuffle back a few cm at a time. Why isn't there anything in the baby books you fill in ref their first achievements on 'foot shuffling'?

Right, off to do a little more studying and then make a few phone calls to try to sort out a huge cock up over the year 11 school prom tomorrow night that the kids have f*ed up by trying to organise themselves. Frightening to think that some of them could actually be out working in a few months as I have to wonder how they manage to get up every day!
on the brightside, I've just realised that DS is on study leave from today so I can try to fit in a few more water aerobics classes and a hair cut whilst he is at home

hope you all have a good day x

littleboyblue · 06/05/2009 09:33

coco sorry dd2 is still being sick. If you feel it isn't right, speak to your gp about it.
PSL Very of M sleeping through. Jacob didn't do it until we weaned when I watered down the formula during the night, and Luke last night was up every hour on the hour!

I think the AD's might be kicking in I haven't cried for a few days now and am staying nice and calm most of the time. Yay

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 10:04

Welcome Limelion. My DS1 is being abit more attention demanding since Danny came along - repeat the mummy mantra "its just a phase - this too shall pass"...

Coco - sorry your DD2 is ill again. DS1 had something like that a few months ago - think the mucus collected in his throat and then when he ate food in the morning it triggered the gag reflex. Does your DD have a cold at all? If not, am stumped too. Hope she recovers from it soon.

Pink - what Open Uni course did you plump for? Am so impressed at you - 3 demanding kids and taking on further education at the same time! Hope your kids all get better soon.

Lardy - if it were me, I'd go with the feeding as much as possible route until a paed tells you otherwise (as you dont want DS getting dehydrated which will compound your problems). Things will calm down and your DS will get better and you'll be able to spend much more quality time with your DD - just hang on in there.

LBB - for your exercise class, I'd suggest loose t-shirt, good fitting and supportive bra, tracksuit bums and trainers. But basically anything you feel comfortable in which has a bit of give will do the trick. Hope you enjoy it. Doing it with a double buggy will make it an especially challenging work out! Glad the ADs are doing the trick. Hurrah.

THOM - have the opposite to you; Danny seems to be going to bed earlier and earlier. Last night was down at 6.30 - though does mean he's up and ready to start the day around 5.30/6 in the morning. Think I'd much rather have a later bedtime and wake up time. Still his big brother wants to start his day then too anyway so its not like I'd get a lie in anyway.

PSL - impressed that M sleeps through - think she needs to have a word with Danny

LittleSez - lovely to see you on the board again. Hope the counselling helps and glad you're enjoying being a mum to Isobella.

KT - good luck at the opticians.

Thanks all for your kind words - managed to escape the kids and DH last night for an hour to have a massage in the spa around the corner from us (cashed in the voucher the boys gave me for mothers day) so at least the day ended on a good note.

STW - sorry your heart to heart made you feel bad, that's the problem with heart to hearts; not sure things are much better today as now I'm worried that whatever I say to DH will be taken as a criticism and feel like I'm walking on eggshells... oh well, it was like this after DS1 was born so am sure things will improve in time. Hope your kids both slept well last night for you.

MS - glad you had a good time at the wedding. Rather at the hotel staff telling you to BF in the loo though! Thank god for the nice man with the room...

PolkSaladLucie · 06/05/2009 10:04

KT - don't buy any glasses at your opticians. Go to www.glassesdirect.co.uk - they are fab, and prices start about a tenner. They deliver really quickly, and have a great range...

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 11:01

omg... shitty horrible feckin day

our en suite tolet was blocked last night when we went to bed (bloody dd and her mountains of toilet paper) i couldn't unblock it so left it but forgot that that toilet drips from the cistern so the damn thing filled up overnight and overflowed and flooded the en suite and the dining room below.... so i got to deal with toilet water everywhere first thing this morning.

was just about recovering from that and got a letter in the door from the oil company claiming i hadn't paid for the last delivery.... which i bloody well have but did i keep the feckin receipt? no, why would i?! it would be like keeping all my shopping receipts for months on end, twas over 2 months ago ffs! can't get through to them at the office and am raging

missed a call from the PHN who wants to see aaron today too..... great, all i need with a house soaked it bog water is the health nurse nosing around

i need cookies........

dinky, can't decide between a BSc in Environmental Science or and open BSc which would allow me to do a few arts modules too... kinda want to study languages too. have decided to start with leval one 'exploring science' as it'll be a good base for either and decide once i've done that where to go next. if i get started now i should have my degree by the time aaron starts school which would be perfect

KT, hope the opticians sort you out. need to go myself as i've been getting headaches whenever i read for a year now but there's always something else i'd rather spend the money on

dinky and STW, sorry you're both having isses wiith your dh's. i do think the few months after having a baby are such a fraught time in relationships that alot of things get said that shouldn't be. dinky, dp uses that 'all you do is criticise' line too.... i have been known to point out that maybe that's because he gives me so many reasons to criticise the things he does/doesn't do STW, heart to hearts suck... things always get said that should never be said... hope you can get past it

mumoverseas · 06/05/2009 11:08

just collected DD from nursery and according to temperature guage on pram it was 50 degrees!

bloody stupid, roll on next month!

dinkystinky · 06/05/2009 11:13

Ugh Pink - that sounds like a really crappy start to your day!. Hope it can only get better from here on in after the bog tsunami. Hope you get to have a good rant at the oil people - will feel good to get the frustration out!

OP posts:
littleboyblue · 06/05/2009 11:59

Pink Not nice. Can only get better though hey?

Ds1 is relatively small. How can someone whose under 2 foot possibly produce so much snot?! I'm finding the stuff everywhere! No lies, it's all over his face, over some toys, up my trouser leg. I even found a snot trail running up the front of Luke's outfit.

PolkSaladLucie · 06/05/2009 12:13

Yuck Pink - not a nice start to the day. You may already know, but you can pay for OU courses with Tesco clubcard points... I'm looking into doing something myself.

MOS - that's a bit warm! Sun's out here, but it's effing cold in the shade!

PinkTulips · 06/05/2009 12:28

PSL, yep... that's why i decided to go for it, have 25,000 clubcard points saved up... not sure if they'll give them all to me as vouchers but even if they gave me a good chunk it would go a ways towards paying for it.

the first module costs 1330 sterling hopefully they'll approve me for paying in instalments and i can be bunging clubcard vouchers at the repayments

MarkStretch · 06/05/2009 12:46

Wow, I never knew that about clubcard vouchers!

DS is having a sleep so I am MNing tidying and packing some bits for our holiday to my mum's in France. We don't go until the end of July but she's coming over next month and I'm sending loads of stuff back with her, less for us to carry!

I have packed a little box of baby rice as I expect greedy guts will be near weaning by the time go! What a scary thought.

Frankie seems to be the smiliest baby ever today, he couldn't even latch on for his morning feed because he was grinning from ear to ear. I love it
