Bumps so sorry you are having such a tough time of it, hope that DD has recovered and that you poor little DS gives you some peace today and stops being sick Poor you, much sympathy from me as it all sounds a bit horrendous!

MOS and Dinky yeah i know its going to really bad and dirty and messy but its driving me nuts here at the moment, no room for anything since we had Milo, even his baby gym seems to be taking up too much room! Am glad to see that a loft conversion (were putting the two eldest up there ) doesnt take too long and the two storey extension you were talking about MOS is what we are going to have done ... ohhhh new wardrobes, shoe racks, carpets ect i am very excited at the prospect and when the kitchen is made bigger ( its stupidly tiny!) im getting a bloody range cooker because its already like feed the 5 thousand at dinnertime. Just the idea of all that extra space, utility room, en suite ect and its got to be worth the mess and endless cups of tea for builders!

MOS i cant remember what date everybody said for the meet up but if someone could go firm and clarify it then ill get my train tickets early this time as its very expensive the later i leave it.

bumps sorry you had such a bad night. Not too good here either. Ds1 was in and out of our bed all night. I kept waking up and he had squeezed himself between me and dp.

littleboyblue · 04/06/2009 10:32

It seems that I don't get ready quick enough in the mornings. Ds1 this morning came running into the bathroom whilst I was in the bath yelling "SHOES" and threw his shoes in, and then mine.

bumpsnowjustplump · 04/06/2009 10:35

oh no lbb dd has done that..

mumoverseas · 04/06/2009 12:03

morning all
just been out shopping and cheered ourselves up and bought H a cot. Been meaning to do it for ages but were put off by crazy prices and also lack of space as spare room (was DD1's and she is only back around 2 weeks a year now) had a double bed in and huge range of chest of drawers/dressing table etc. Can't get rid of furniture as is company villa so I had the idea of putting the dressing table out on landing (as H doesn't need that and a big mirror) so now there is room for a cot.
We were thinking of trying to buy a second hand one but I thought sod it, my mum would have wanted her grandson to have a nice new one so bought one in the sale this morning which was lovely, white with blue edging and was still less than a third of some of the mothercare ones. Just have to hope DH puts it together now

rosie, ref loft conversion, think it cost around £25k to include the build, plumbing (had to move water tanks etc) and electrics but not the decorating/carpeting. That gave us a decent size double bedroom and a small study area at the top of the stairs (was supposed to be a separate study but we decided to have it open plan at the last minute to make it seem more light/airy) otherwise it would have been a bit cramped.

With regards to our extension (7 years ago) we had a 3 bed detached house with a path to the right hand side and a detached garage the other side of the path to the garden. We had the garage knocked down and built forward, attached the the house. We had a family room/dining room behind the garage (off the kitchen) a porch to the front to the left of the garage and a large guest room with en-suite shower and a massive bathroom with corner bath, separate shower, toilet vanity unit etc and the whole thing cost around £40,000 but added around £80,000 to the value. Well worth doing if you love the house/area you are in but have just outgrown it. We are buggered if we have more kids (hell will freeze over first) have built out the side, behind (conservatory) and up (loft conversion) so no where else to go

rosieposey · 04/06/2009 16:27

Ohhh appreciate the heads up MOS especially on costing as haven't a clue what it might cost - depends on the house i suppose. Really dont want to move as its so quiet, green and nice around here and Swindon can be a bit dodgy in areas but its gorgeous in W Swindon. Im hoping we should get some decent quotes but we are getting a guy in at the end of the month to do the plans so we can submit them. Have probably got my sights set a little high with a laundry room ect as it would seem that we need quite a lot done and some people would say it might just be worth our while just moving but i really dont want to for the reasons above.

Nice one ref Harrison's cot it sounds lovely - i cant believe how expensive things are out there! We are so pushed for room that Milo is out of our bed now and i have bought a Graco petite basinette which i can collapse during the day but (just) fits at the end of our bed, im also buying a made to measure mattress for it as i dont really like the idea of him sleeping on it long term. Like Dinky's Danny, Milo also spins around so he is sideways in his cot so i think its quite a good idea it has mesh sides.

LBB when I was giving up smoking a few years ago, one suggestions I heard was to eat a carrot every time you fancy a fag. Have them peeled and ready in the frige? Less fattening than the hot choc idea. But not as fun! Or a mini milk or ice pop lolly thingy? They're a bit more like a treat.

mumoverseas · 04/06/2009 17:12

rosie, some friends of ours have just left KSA after years here and have bought a house in.... Swindon! We are going to visit them in the summer, how about a Swindon meet up

rosieposey · 04/06/2009 17:31

What a capital idea MOS a polite one or a pub one?

thehouseofmirth · 04/06/2009 18:51

Have to add my name to the list of butter-fingered mummies. Was picnicking in Bushey Park today, kneeling down with Tarran on my lap and I let the little chap dive forwards and land with his face on the ground which, due to the hot weather, was rock hard. He cried, then was fine and I managed to stop myself driving him straight to Kingston Hospital. I'm sure he's fine but that Natasha Richardson business makes it a bit more worrying, doesn't it? Poor little sausage.

dinkystinky · 04/06/2009 19:38

Poor Mr T - hope he's ok Thom. Babies are much more lemming-like than you realise: Danny has taken to attempting to launch himself out of people's arms aiming at the floor today. Maybe gravity is especially strong around babies born in February Danny has been refusing to sleep again last night and today and truly miserable as a result - I think the 4 month sleeping insanity is starting early...

Bumps - hope your day picked up from the truly horrible start and DD goes back into her bed tonight.

LBB - quickly scanning through earlier I thought I read it was your DP who threw your shoes in the bath! Then re-read and saw it was your DS1 - has DP been training him up to do it?

Right off to kickstart the new thread...

P.s. LBB when I was giving up smoking around 8 years ago I took to sucking on lollipops - not great for your teeth but good to have something to suck on and hold. Tictacs or mints or gum may do the trick too - and help suppress your appetite abit which seemed to return with a vengeance when I gave up smoking.

Coco Yes, they're better ideas. Might try those, I don't have a balanced diet so the carrots would be 2 birds 1 stone
thom Hope he's ok.
