PT - good on your daughter with the seatbelts. You've obviously got her well trained...

littleboyblue · 03/06/2009 11:59

Thanks thom I just keep thinking the amount of money I spend on fags a week, would pay for some really nice day trips for the boys.
PSL Thanks to the joys of parenthood, I no longer enjoy buying things for myself. On the few occasions I have, I've just felt guilty. Stupid, hey?
Calico You're not a bad mother. Playing it ut in your mind and letting yourself think about it, won't change it happened. Lilian is fine, that's the important thing, and you certainly won't go anywhere without triple checking.
I've got home with ds1 when he was smaller and he's not been strapped into pushchair.....now we all know I am not the gentlest or most careful person ever, imagine if he'd slid out while I was bumping up and down curbs?
I wonder why dp says he never wants any more children?
rosie I think it might be because everytime I so much as turn my back, ds1 either, pokes Luke's eyes/rams his finger in his mouth/sits on him etc so it's prob more to do with the fact that he's realised it's him against ds1 when I turn around.

PinkTulips · 03/06/2009 12:03

i had to bring aaron with me to the primary school last night for the meeting with dd's new teacher

he lost the plot when i treid to leave and he still won't take a bottle so without knowing how long i was going to be i couldn't leave him with dp!

mumoverseas · 03/06/2009 13:29

calico, DS1 did that himself when he was a toddler. I'd strapped him into his seat and put the seatbelt on but somehow as we travelled along the M25 he managed to undo it and I only realised as I turned off onto the A3 and he ended upside down in the footwell, still strapped in. Thankfully he was ok.

LBB good luck with the giving up smoking. I gave up years ago when TTC and found it hard at first but managed.

PSL, any luck with emailing me that photo cos I leave here on Tuesday night and last chance to get to jewellers will probably be around Sunday

THOM, DH would be 'well chuffed' (in his words) if DS was watching Top Gear!

Any more thoughts on meet up? I'd originally said I could do Wednesday 24th but I've realised its probably not the best day but if thats the only day everyone can do I will go with it.

Had a crappy morning, went on the bus to the local mall for some last minute shopping and burst into tears in Debenhams when I saw a promotion of Channel No. 5 which was my mum's favourite perfume.

MOS Sorry there are so many reminders when it's all still so raw .

LBB good luck with the stopping smoking. DH said it was very hard but he felt so proud that he had the will power to do it. Shame the same can't be said for buying mountain bike parts which seem to arrive in the post daily . Buy the way would love to do a Kingston meet up soon so let's set something up!

PSL you are good making sure there's nothing violent on TV for M to see. DD's first months were spent with Jerry Springer in the background (I was sooo addicted to it ) I'm surprised her first words weren't "Jerry, Jerry"!

THOM hope your boys are feeling a little better today?

Bumps - how is the new medication kicking in? We have been using Ranitidine since Monday and I'm not sure if it's made a difference. Maybe Sam is a little bit more settled, but he's still arching his back and vomming lots. We got our paediatrician appointment through this morning, it's for 29th June wich seems ages away . Still, we've come this far so I'm sure we'll make it.

Had a really busy week so far and I love it like that! I'm aching today from "Mums on the Run" yesterday. Been 3 times now with teh double MacLaren and it is getting a bit easier. I've also started running again a couple of evenings a week. Not too far at the moment, but it's great to stick my i-pod on and get lost in music. My Shuffle is full of guilty pleasures like Take That, Abba, 80's dance tracks, ELO, Queen etc!

I'm going to a charity sale tomorrow to raise money for one of the couples who was on our NCT group the first time round. When their son was 12 days old he contracted meningitis which resulted in cerebral palsy . It was so sad - but his mum is now pregnant again and I really hope she gets to enjoy this baby.

Now off to get stuff ready for a picnic in the park, although the sun has disappeared. Both DC's asleep at the same time at the moment! Result!

SweetTalkinWoman · 03/06/2009 14:13

Dinky forgot to say thanks for the i-tunes information! Will get downloading tonight...

thehouseofmirth · 03/06/2009 16:36

Have just bought the best thing for our buggy look. DS1 loves it and I got a brand new one cheaper than used ones are going for on eBay. Result!

Boys better today though DS1 still not waiting and now has horrid cough.

STW hope you enjoyed your picnic.

Cailico not only have I done what you did but also found out when he was about 4 months old that I'd ben strapping DS1's car seat in totally wrong since he was born...

thehouseofmirth · 03/06/2009 16:47

whilst it is true that DS1 has no patience it was my intention to tell you he is not eating, rather than not waiting

PinkTulips · 03/06/2009 17:09

stw... dd used to be up so early with reflux i'd get to watch early morning tv every day.... lots of gilmore girls, breakfast tv and cartoons. then during the day i'd flit between jerry, rikki and various real estate shows as we'd be glued to the couch feeding all day.

she's no madder than ds1 who had no tv except the occasional bit of cbeebies for his first year

bumpsnowjustplump · 03/06/2009 17:15

STW no effect seen with new meds yet but only on day two here. The side effects of the domperidone are horrific so watching him very carefully.. Hope your pead is as good as ours was I was so impressed... One thing he said is that because there was no eczema or rash he didn't think it was dairy allergy, so sounds like this may be the problem with your ds, if it is he may not need all the other meds and just need a dairy free milk... He also said that a dairy intolerance is often miss diagnosed as reflux....

I have a whole box of gaviscon if anyone wants it as ds is no longer taking it.. I can bring it to the meet or put it in the post. I know we shouldn't share meds but it seems silly me taking it to chemist if someone can use it...

Owen only has his gym at the moment I must get dp into the loft to get some more toys down...

PSL how is the pushchair???

littleboyblue · 03/06/2009 19:59

Thom* Looked at your link. That looks so weird! Funky though. How is it pushing the buggy with that on it? Might get one as ds1 gets a bit older, looks a bit more fun than the bog standard buggy boards.
STW Monday's are best days for me really for a meet, but can prob manage most days.
Speaking of tv, mine's always on, ds1 looks at it quite alot, but he/we still play alot too. I don't think atm it has had any effect on his behaviour or social skills. He is quite well behaved most of the time and he is good around other children and strangers , he gets a bit shy but is generally a very friendly little boy. I watched alot of telly as a child and I am very extravert and talkative (yes really) so I don't think it had a negative effect on me either, for me, it just means ds1 is happy at home or away, he is happy with me by his side or not iyswim. The tv gives us all a bit of a break.

Looks like the work place and NVQ at playgroup won't happen. My 2 friends that have been working the creche were 'laid off' yesterday as CIB checks haven't come back. For one of them, it has been 6 months. I was asking the leader about it as there was supposed to be a creche tomoz for the smoking group and she kept telling me to shhhh

mumoverseas · 03/06/2009 20:11

THOM, that buggy thingy looks so cool, just been looking on ebay and very tempting. We'll probably find we are all bidding against each other.
Also looking at getting a new buggy for the UK. We have two umbrella fold buggies, one here in KSA and one in the UK but both are very pink and flowery and it would probably be child abuse to put H in a pink one. We have a double buggy which I might bring back to the UK for the summer and big 'proper' pram here but quite fancy just a single buggy for when DD will be on her bike when we are out and about near the house. Don't want to look like a twat with a double buggy with one child in it. Did that a month or so ago at local supermarket and a Saudi man kept pointing at the buggy with just DS in as DD was in the trolley with DH. I made a really shocked face and pretended I'd lost a baby and he made an even more shocked face

LBB, sorry that it sounds like your NVQ won't happen but will keep fingers crossed for you.

littleboyblue · 03/06/2009 20:20

Mos I've done that around tecos, ds1 in the trolley and me with the double. I use clothes pegs to clip a sheet over Luke (off the hood) to block him from the sun so sometimes looks like I'm just walking around with an empty buggy! Or if I go out with just Luke, I can't always be bothered to get the single out, so just take the double anyway.

Was quite looking forward to the NVQ, but oh well. One friend is helping out tomorrow as they are running a creche, but the other one doesn't know that, but I heard they were looking to replace him because he tends to only watch his own dc's and doesn't attempt to organise activities or anything. All seemed a bit secret squirrel, odd. I might look into doing something similar elsewhere though. Do like the idea of earning my own money again.

dinkystinky · 03/06/2009 20:40

Evening all.

Calico - as others have said, its easily done and I bet most people have forgotten to plug car seat into car seatbelt at one point or another (I know DH has done so many times when DS1 was a baby).

STW - sorry you have to wait so long to see the paed but hey, at least you have a date and its this month! Great that you're back to exercising and getting some time to yourself to go running (those endorphins will do you a world of good) - especially nice in this current lovely weather.

Rosie - the major renovation work sounds interesting! We have had plans drawn up to extend and redo our place but put everything on hold due to the current downturn. When we eventually do get the work done am so keen to move out as having a builder around to do small jobs with toddler and small baby around was no fun - can only imagine it will be worse with many builders and 2 small mobile children... though DH is in denial and thinks we can live through the dust and noise and mess with no wories.

THOM - glad DS1 is on the mend. That bike seat looks great - I'd like one of those! Have yet to get DS1 to get on the buggy board we've bought (not so bad at the moment as am still slinging Danny everywhere - but if he sticks on the 75th percentile for weight as he's done so far am going to need to take him out of the sling every now and then to give my back a break) - if he continues to boycott it may need to seriously pick your brain about the ride on option. Re toys - Danny has inherited all of DS1's old toys; he loves his baby gym, his tiny love mini-musical mobile that clips to the car seat (honestly, its like it hypnotises him when we put it on - able to stop him mid tantrum when driving places) and his baby einstein plastic links (likes bopping himself on the head with them) but his new absolute favourite toys are any old muslins and blankets which he likes snuggling into, playing peekaboo with and trying to stuff into his mouth (curiously enough all of those toys were DS1's favourites too at this age). One new toy he got given was a baby mirror (basically a big foam triangle with a mirror attached to it) which he really loves looking into - really good for tummy time distractions.

rosie & dinky, not much fun living in a building site. we had that last summer with our loft coversion. It only took about 6 weeks for the actual build but it was really dusty and noisy and the real PITA was getting people in to quote and do the decorating, carpeting etc.
Had a large 2 storey extension done 7 years ago and that was a bloody nightmare. It was supposed to be a 12 week job and he finally finished in week 26!

So why has it all gone quiet on a meet up just when I'm coming home?

dinkystinky · 03/06/2009 20:47

LBB - good luck with the stopping smoking. Its hard work but so worth it in the long run. Sorry to read the NVQ and creche job wont be coming through.

MoS - sorry you've had a hard day. You'll probably find that the smallest things set you off for a while yet - but its actually really good for the grieving process to have good days and bad days and days of happy memories and sad memories and hopefully really cathartic for you in the long run. Am sending you some virtual chocolate this evening though to cheer you up this evening. Re meet up - think last I had read it was mooted for Wednesday 24th which was a day a few people had indicated they could do. As its still in early planning stage if that doesnt work for you, what date works better?

Hmm, running out of thread space now - everyone happy with new thread of "F[l]ab Feb 2009: Primark pants and teething rants..."? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

bumpsnowjustplump · 03/06/2009 21:05

fine by me... MOS I am free for meet up any time...

katieblirdsnest · 03/06/2009 22:18

MOS i've got a spare pushchair you could borrow, it's a micralite but not the carrycot version so doesn't recline far. you can look it up and if you think it seems suitable for you then feel free to come round and pick it up when you're over.

also, i haven't been on here for a while but am so sorry to see your dreadful news.

i'm up for a 24th june meet up.

i didn't ever write up my labour story (relatively uneventful) but i was at a recording of stewart lee's comedy vehicle tv show when it started...i've just been sent a tv guide review from when it was on and it mentions a woman going into labour during the recording. ooh, that was me!

lbb good luck with the fags, i gave up after 20 years of smoking. over 4 years later i can't say i don't sometimes still want one (usually when a drink is in hand) but in the main i can barely remember being a smoker. as you know it's not easy but you actually wanting to give up rather than someone telling you to is a huge first step and it will get easier.

thom hope the boys start to feel better soon.

hope the meds start to work for bumps and stw.

elkiedee · 03/06/2009 23:52

LBB, sorry to hear the job/training thing looks like falling through, glad to hear you're starting the stop smoking group. If it works for you I think you should use at least some of that money to treat yourself.

elkiedee · 03/06/2009 23:52

Dinky, love the thread title idea

littleboyblue · 04/06/2009 01:30

Hi all. Thanks for support on the stop smoking. A few of us are doing it. My SAHD friend wants us to give up on same day and be each others support. I told him let's just put £20 on who'll cave first......not the most positive start!
I'm trying to think what I can replace the fags with iyswim? Someone suggested a cup of hot chocolate, tried that before but takes a few minutes to prepare and I found that a bit long every time I wanted a quick fag. Any ideas? I think I just need something quick I can do for myself at tempting times (keep all suggestions clean please)

littleboyblue · 04/06/2009 01:57

btw, love the new thread title. Especially the F(l)ab Feb part.

My littlest man is 4 months old now. And my little big man is 22 months. OMG time flys. Emotional moment here. Can kind of imagine myself sitting here in 20 years wondering where all the time went.
In 10 weeks, we'll be weaning! Ds1's age will be reffered to in years instead of months, massive milestone IMO. I remember when I had to stop stating his age in days and then weeks and now months........ On the plus side, can't wait to get my bedroom back, roll on 6 months

bumpsnowjustplump · 04/06/2009 07:37

bad night here.......... DD fell out of bed (dont know how she bloody did it because there is only a tiny gap in her bed) and refused to get back in her own bed so came in our bed. Not before waking DS (this was at 12.30) who then fed every hour and was sick every hour and so has spent all morning since about 4 crying his eyes out.

I have a headache, am tired and still have a whole day to get through!!! arghhhhhhhhhhh
