MOS another thread needs you!

mslucy · 07/05/2009 20:34

dinky see you at the heath tomorrow.
Have spoken to elkie and she says she is coming too.

Only problem is that I have sod all exercise gear and haven't had time to buy any

dinkystinky · 07/05/2009 20:37

The only things you really need MsLucy are a supportive bra and a pair of trainers. Just wear comfy clothes with it (have seen women doing the sessions in cut off jeans and normal trousers before). Will be nice to see you and Elkie tomorrow. Am keeping my fingers crossed that Danny is feeling better by tomorrow - he's been a total misery guts again today...

Coco The best piece of advice I can give you is, stay the hell away from Google! It does more harm than good in these situ's IMO.
MoS Hope tonight goes smoothly and there aren't too many issues.
PSL Did it say anywhere on the instructions/box/description that it was unreturnable if been outside? If not, I'd battle it, these things aren't cheap and if you aren't happy with the fit of the car seat, it also makes it unsafe, and for that reason surely they should refund? Can you tell them you still need a pushchair so would be willing to take vouchers on an exchange?
Also, can you measure it yourself and make sure your measurements are the same as the stated ones, because if you researched sizes.........
Goodluck, before we got our new car, we had to take the wheels and the hoods off the double pushchair to get it in the boot, was a royal PITA.
lardy That's really foul!!! My dog used to roll in fox's shit, the stuff stinks like nothing else in the world doesn't it? Yuck

Dp's just got in from chippy, so off now. Catch you all later

elkiedee · 07/05/2009 20:45

Hi all,

Danny was given nearly all of his clothes up to 6 months, though we did choose a few ourselves we particularly liked. Conor's inherited all of those, plus some more off various cousins, plus he's been given a few things of his own. I have succumbed to the temptation to get him a few new items though. Some are ones I've got for his brother as well.

Seasonal difference - less than I thought, March/April 2009 were a bit drier and not much colder than much of summer 2007 - Conor inherited snowsuits which May baby Danny didn't really need. I have got him a couple of pairs of shorts and might get him the odd romper suit if the weather gets really hot. I've also bought a few poppered vests which are too nice to hide under other clothes and will probably use those on their own or with trousers/shorts - I don't like nappies hanging out the back of trousers and think vests are better with unpredictable messy nappies.

Dinky/MsLucy - I plan to try and make it to Pushy Mums tomorrow, though am a bit put off by the upfront cost after the initial class. I haven't done formal exercise since school, and as I'm so old that's quite a long time! I don't own a tracksuit but will just come in scruffy but comfy clothes I guess. The details I've found say 1.30 at the Parliament Hill Fields bandstand, is that right? My plan is to try to arrive quite early - between 12 and 1 - so that I can beg help with the stairs at Gospel Oak and then feed in the Fields before the class starts.

dinkystinky · 07/05/2009 20:59

Elkie - yep, those details are right. There is a bench infront of the bandstand and they generally meet near there. Just see if you enjoy the first class before deciding if you want to sign up for more classes - there's no pressure on you to have to do it. I think I'm going to drive over there (have to get used to driving the estate car sometime) as its free parking over that way after 12 pm so will probably be there shortly after 1 I think to feed Danny before the session is due to kick off if all goes to plan.

PSL - lots of people have mentioned the Honda option, I'll have a look. Have got a Phil & Ted buggy which folds down quite well but it is quite wide.
Have decided to cut out the Gaviscon for a couple of feeds and see if that makes L more comfortable...she's been v unsettled today, though I know she will throw up without the Gaviscon so that'll make her miserable too

Lardy poo story is a shocker! yuck

lardybump · 07/05/2009 21:56

I sometimes have to use a little lactulose with DS because the gaviscon bungs him up. you can buy it over the counter....

Renault Magane has a 5 star safety rating.... And boot is very big... And they are not expensive to run either. I would love one but cant afford to sell at the moment.

littleboyblue · 07/05/2009 22:43

Luke has been a big fattie today. I swear all he's done is eat but has not had that 'full' look iykwim. He's already had close to 30oz today. Fingers crossed he won't wake up again tonight

PinkTulips · 07/05/2009 22:43

my cousin has a renault and has had endless trouble with it, it's only a year old and he's had it break down on him 4 times and the garages never have the parts for it. he hates it with a passion

mslucy · 07/05/2009 23:06

dinky/elkie
I'll be coming from Kentish Town - bus if running late/feeling lazy; otherwise will walk it.

The main appeal is that it's on the Heath, where I spend half my life so it won't really feel like proper torture exercise.

Will stuff Stan with milk before I leave so he's nice and sleepy. He's quite chilled on the whole but can be a bit evil if he's hungry (aren't we all).

mumoverseas · 08/05/2009 06:30

morning all,
swampy thanks for the tip, I've been over the 'chat' and set the record straight. Nothing like people who think they know it all giving out crap advice!

lardy that sounds awful, hope you've managed to clean it up ok

PSL what a pain about car seat/pram, hope you do manage to get a refund.

Feeling a bit tired today as late night and it was my turn on duty (with DCs) last night. Am pissed of with DH too. He brought me up a coffee around half an hour ago then went and got the laptop for me (I foolishly thought so I could check my mails etc?) well I'm halfway through typing a long post about the joys of living in Saudi and H starts crying. DH picks him up and jiggles him and he still keeps crying then he puts him back in his crib and starts getting shitty with me for being on the computer! WTF! Just had a nice exchange of insults and he stormed off downstairs with DD and DS. Twat! I said just give me one more minute to finish what I'm typing and post but oh no, he had to throw a wobbly the stupid git. Don't know why he is so arsey today, he had at least 9 hours sleep last night
to make it worse, its our sunday today so I'm stuck with the grumpy bastard all day! Hope you all have better days than me

littleboyblue · 08/05/2009 07:08

MoS Oh dear. Me and my dp have this row sometimes when I'm on the computer. I try to tell him I spend all day everyday doing things to meet other people's needs and do what the ds's want and a few times a day, I want 10 mins to do something I want to do. I don't think that's asking too much.

Yesterday, me, my dad and aunt took the boys over to the park and I bumped into a mum from our friday play group and she was telling me about these parenting sessions Social Services are making her go to, and it seems that half of Stanwell were there so are under SS care. From what I can gather, it's all coming from the same HV, but what are these people doing to all be under the care of SS? This mum apparently was reportd because her children look 'grubby'
And I know a few people have had SS made aware of them through the playgroup staff. It's making me feel abit on edge tbh, almost like you have to watch what you say, like if you saud "he was so naughty yesterday, I could have thrown him out the window....." they'd be straight on the phone. But everyone says stuff like that don't they? You'd never in a million years do it, but we all think it, right??

littleboyblue · 08/05/2009 08:02

Oh, also meant to say, I got a call back from a partner at the doctors about the complaint I logged about the reception staff. She said they are aware of a few issues on the desk and are hoping for a switch round of staff or something, but on this particular day, they had been very busy and some patients are quite rude to them, but not my problem really is it? If they can't control their moods that are brought on by some people, they shouldn't be working with the general public should they?
Anyway, doc said if I have any other problems with anything, I can call her direct or leave a message for her, so hopefully my complaint was taken seriously. I did tell her I still planned on looking for another surgery as the negative greetings from the reception desk, I find tend to take away any confidence in the practice as a whole.

Weather looks rubbish today doesn't it? I'm going into town afetr group to get ds1 a potty [nervous emoticon]

elkiedee · 08/05/2009 09:14

Weather does look rubbish today, and I was quite looking forward to something giving me a push to venture out and reorganised my usual bags so I could just carry one and fit it under the buggy as well as nappies and clothing. The walk to and from the train at my end would be no bad thing either. Grrr.

elkiedee · 08/05/2009 09:21

BBC weather forecast for "Central London" is heavy rain at 10, sunny intervals at 1 pm and 4 pm, so maybe it will get better.

nadssss · 08/05/2009 09:37

i hope so - life with babies is so much better when the sun is shining.

just a quick post to second various recommendations for cranial osteopaths - from the first appointment, although baby still waking at 3am, or more often 12am and 5am, she goes straight back down after a feed and seems more comfortable. for those having probs settling at night - do give it a shot.

Having said that, as we hit 12 weeks she is coming off the boob much more than usual during feeds - sort of whipping her mouth away repeatedly. Very embarrassing in public!

Pushy mothers reminds me that i really should do some exercise soon - keep kidding myself that breast feeding is a kind of exercise - anyone attempted swimming with the babies yet? do you think it is best to wait until after the baby has had its jabs?

dinkystinky · 08/05/2009 09:46

Hi Nadss - glad the cranial osteopath is helping. I did baby swimming with DS1 and start with Danny this weekend - though its not really much exercise for you as all you do is stand and walk a little in the pool swishing them around. That said, DS1 loved it (took him at 4 months) and still loves the water now. Remains to be seen if Danny is such a water baby - hope so as he had a water birth and seems to love his bath.

Am hoping the weather clears up soon - its so grim and cold outside!

MoS - sorry you and your DH had an argument this morning; hope your day improves from hereon in. Things are improving with my DH at this end but I've noticed things get worse and he gets much more tense when he cant comfort Danny when he's crying his head off and feels like inadequate dad which he isnt - maybe that's why your DH snapped.

Danny still snotty and grizzly but slept through again last night from 6.50 to 5.20 this morning Though think I'd prefer happy smiley baby who wakes a couple of times a night for feeds actually...

OP posts:
nadssss · 08/05/2009 09:51

dinky - that sounds like the perfect level of exercise for me!

did you get those swimming nappy things? or just risk it?

dinkystinky · 08/05/2009 10:29

I double bagged DS1 as baby poo is so liquid and I didnt want to be the mum whose baby closed the pool - so a disposable swim nappy covered by baby swimming trunks. Different pool and swim schools have different policies - some are ok with just a costume, others insist on double protection, so worth checking out what the requirements are at your local pool/classes. We got an all in one number for DS1 for when we went swimming at local leisure centre pool or outdoors pools as the water was much cooler there than in the teaching pools we did the classes in.

I think you're based in London arent you? If so, we did Little Dippers at Swiss Cottage (in a special school there) with DS1. They do weekly classes and also weekend courses (Fri, Sat, Sun) which is great if your other half wants to learn the swimming techniques too. With Danny, we're doing classes with a local swim school in Kensal Rise (same one DS1 goes to now)- again classes based in a special school but they do the classes on a saturday so it works out well for us. Other swim schools are Aquababies and Swimming Nature (if you google the names the details will come up). You dont actually need to do classes, could just go swimming in local teaching pool with them - but its a nice way to meet other local mums and dads too.

I just got soaked.

And this no medication thing is just causing me worry. Therefore raising my blood pressure. Fuckarsewank.

dinkystinky · 08/05/2009 11:01

MS - sounds like its maybe worth going back to see the GP or a specialist to see if there are any other BP meds you can take which are safe for bfing or if you can follow a holistic approach - homeopathy, meditation, diet and exercise - to try to keep your BP down while you're still bfing Frankie. This worry definitely cant be good for your BP.

I'm desperately hunting out my raincoat and having no bloody luck so far... Why oh why is it so impossible to hold an umbrella on a gusty day and push a pushchair?

OP posts:
elkiedee · 08/05/2009 11:27

I don't own a raincoat but I'm going to brave it anyway, I should have taken up my dad's offer to get me a mac for just this reason. The rain has eased here for the time being and it's looking brighter outside already.

Calico1 · 08/05/2009 14:22

Sun is shining here now...looks lovely outside.

Got soaked in torrential rain this morning taking DCs to have some photos taken. Was hoping for a lovely moody shot of me with smiling kids in my arms, but think I'll end up with a shot of me looking stressed and with damp hair stuck to my forehead whilst Lilian screams and DS runs about in a blur behind us.....ho hum.

Had results yesterday from the series of tests I have been having at local hosp due to the 'mini stroke' I had in late pregnancy. All a bit inconclusive - apparently I have slightly narrow arteries in my neck and very high cholesterol but consultant doesn't think either thing is serious enough to cause a stroke - so I have to have some more tests and an ultrasound on my neck and look at ways to lower my cholesterol (though I did have the bloods taken when I was 39 weeks pregnant - so the diet of chocolate hob-nobs at that stage might have been a factor ). I'm so sick of hospitals......

nadss baby swimming is great fun though they enjoy it more from 4 or 5 months I would say. Make sure the temp of the pool is v warm as otherwise little babies get chilly quickly and then winge for the whole class.

PolkSaladLucie · 08/05/2009 16:03

I remember that feeling, Calico - but then me and hospitals never did mix well! Hope all the results come back ok. Just stay away from the hobnobs for now.

Talk about funny weather - one minute I'm wearing two jumpers, the next minute I'm hot in just a vest! Fingers crossed it's nice over the weekend...
