Hi girls, thought I would start a new thread as DD2 is one on Thursday .

Can you believe a whole year has passed already?

HM LOL at your little independent DS...I know what you mean. DD2 is v cute but also getting v independent. I do a mix of spoon feeding and finger feeding (I know not BLW as such). She is thankfully a very clean eater like her sister...it must be genetic!
I know people will slate me for this, but I really couldn't cope with all that mess. My days are demanding enough!

Joking aside, the latest version of Christopher Green's 'Toddler Taming' is brilliant.

Big news in the lucky household...DD2 took 3 steps on her own today!!! So she may well be proper walking before her birthday (you've got 2 days DD2....no pressure!)

Still no sign of chicken pox.....

Hi,

Just a quickie from me... Am trying to setle mimi!! Hoping to get another hours sleep in before Haribo wakes up!!

Haribo also has two bottles - one in the early morning (nope, still not sleeping through!) and one at night before bed.. oh, and as much of Mimi's milk as he can steal!!! (yes, he really does pinch Mimi's milk and run off with it to drink!!)

Agree completely with LM's comment. Haribo is back on formula and I struggle to get him to drink cows milk.

We've also had a lovely weekend in the sunshine! I think the weather was pretty much perfect - sunny and warm enough to enjoy lunch outside but not too hot that you have to worry about the LOs!

How is everyone? Fuzzy - did you hear about your job application?

mitchell - how is the coursework? I've made a reasonable start on my first assignment now (due in end Oct) and it's paying off already - I am typing this in the dark!! My touch typing skills are returning already!

Well, Mimi settled now, so I must make the most of any available sleep!

Happy Mondays!!

Hm x

Niknak21 · 28/09/2009 06:14

Wow HM so impressed with you looking after 2 LOs and doing coursework.

I worry about coping with work when/if I get a job. Confidence quite low. I still have the occasional sleepless night when my brain won't switch off. Which is why MN comes in handy.

Just waiting til 7 when I can have a bath and not wake anyone!

Going to try a new music class today I can take them both to. We used to do sing and sign with DS1 in tow, but the Monday lessons have stopped. I hate having nothing to get out to do with the 2 of them on a Monday morning.

Niknak21 · 28/09/2009 06:55

Not a good start to a monday morning, DS1 woke up 10 mins ago soaking wet, that's even with a nappy on! Then DS2 started wailing, he's been a bot out of sorts this last few days. So they've both had their milk (abs in DS2's) and the day has started. DS1 is desperate to have cbeebies or sit on my lap, being a mean Mummy and making him lie in the bed next to me til 7 o'clock. The magic time in our house.

Here's hoping it improves, but sleepless night, both wide awake before 7, it's not looking good!

Harimosmummy · 28/09/2009 07:27

I feel for you, Niknak!! Just moments after I shut MN, Haribo woke up!!

He's here to help - has just deleted my message!! Will check back later!!

Managed a bath with leg and underarm shave, was desperately needed, that's my one thing for myself today. I may have a DH who works from home so doesn't leave until 9, and people think I get lots of help. I'm sure I get more than a lot, but when I'm running on empty and he's hiding under the bed clothes from a crying DS2 in my eyes he's not doing enough... Hope that helps me not rant at him, never a good start on a Monday morning for spousal relations

Harimosmummy · 28/09/2009 09:01

hey! hope your monday gets better!

I think I could rent my DH out and, after a couple of days dealing with his version of childcare, you'd all go home much happier - a bit like wife swap!! haha!!

9 times out of 10, if my DH gets up in the night, it's to take himself off to the spare room so his sleep isn't too interupted by the rugrats babies And he does NOT change nappies!! (Haribo he will deal with if he has to. He hasn't changed a single nappy of mimi's and she's 9 weeks old now...

I have to say, though, i wouldn't swap. DH has to get up at 5am on a monday and has a hellish working week - only to get not enough time 2 days at home .

Have you thought of doing something from home (before you go back to work) Niknak? It would do your confidence the world of good! I've really enjoyed using my brain a bit! Think i'm lucky that i can do something that fits so well with me being home with the kids though!

Also (sorry TMI for monday morning) does anyone use the coil? i need some advice!!!

fuzzypeach · 28/09/2009 09:49

Just a quick one from me - speaking of DHs being "helpful" mine went in a mood with me yesterday coz I spent 30 mins in the bath, and he said he couldnt get any jobs done coz he had to look after the girls Oh im so sorry for having a bit of me time!!

Hope your all ok! DD2 a bit off colour at the mo.

Just started this thread maybe HM you mght have some advice as you have dealt with older girls!??!

Harimosmummy · 28/09/2009 10:27

Fuzzy - just read your other thread (and your FB profile!! - smarties would have been easy in comparison!! )

she sounds just like DSD1. DSD1 is (and always has been) more grown up than her age would have you think!!

Sports were DSD1's saviour - she is now a very strong contender for the England Lacrosse team.

She is still advanced and very mature but she has a channel for her energies.

For DSD1 she was (and is) very competitive. She struggles with the idea that 'everyone is a winner' (thinking esp. of her primary school sports day!). It's one thing that I personally love about the school she attends - it doesn't faff about with the 'everyone is a winner' idea. You work hard, you play hard. You try your hardest at whatever it is you choose to do.

So, my gut feel is that she needs another 'outlet' / activity / hobby (not sure what the right word is) - something that she can channel her energies into. Is there a weekend sports camp she could go to?

I have to say, even with that, DSD1 is mature for her age - she wants her 15th birthday party at Bluebird!!!!!!!!!! But, I can't imagine where we'd be without her working off so much energy (mental and physical!) on sports events!!

Hm x

Harimosmummy · 28/09/2009 10:31

Just to add, DSD2 is into drama / Lamda...

I think it's just good for them to have some hobby / activity that takes their mind off friends / boys!

Mitchell81 · 28/09/2009 10:32

Fuzzy Just bumped your message for you.

Harimo My first assignment is also Oct/Nov will need to check. Starting today.

Niknak How old is DS1? My DS1 is dry 6 out 7 nights, but I was sick of changing linen, duvets etc once a week that I have put him back into a nightime pull up.
He didn't even wake when he wet the bed. So leaving him for longer.

LM I am sure DD1 loved cleaning the toys, I know DS would also enjoy that sort of activity.

Anyone have a fool proof cake recipe, Its DD birthday on Monday and having a party on sunday and need to make a cake. Can't find my usual recipe and don't feel like having to make two after finding out internet recipe not very good. DD will be 9 ( I feel so old)

Niknak21 · 28/09/2009 11:54

Just quickly before I lose my patience with DS1.

He's 4 on Wednesday, just trying cutting down bedtime milk and putting him the loo before we go to bed. I bought huggies last time cos they're cheaper and they have leaked loads. Last night I thought DH had put him on the loo....he also let him finish off DS2's half bottle of milk, so no wonder he leaked. We've had so many problems with day time toiletting the night nappy is going when I get a dry pull up/he gets up to go to the loo in the night.

Re the job, not sure what else I can do since my career (dentistry) is all I've done since I started training in 1993!...I have thought about doing a floristry course though, but it wouldn't pay for the extra surgery which is the long term plan.

On a positive though, went to music/dance class with boys and it was worth the drive, although I bumped into a nurse I used to work with who now works at the practice I really wanted the job at. The dentist who got the job I also worked with (small world down here!) so I was getting the low down on how she was getting on.Feeling a bit under confident from the sound of it, so maybe it wasn't the job for me! IYSWIM

Will stop rambling and get my big boy his scrambled egg for his pestering makes me shout

shonnomanom · 28/09/2009 12:33

What a busy thread this mornig!
Sympathy to all having a bad start to the week.

Fuzzy I would have a word with the teacher. Think she definately needs some sort of distraction from him

I gave dd her formula last night at bedtime as usual. But when she woke at 530 this morning I gave her water - which she emptied. Then this morning she ate all of her breakfast, which she doesnt normally do. The down side is though normally she goes straight back to sleep after her middle of the night milk but it took half an hour of holding her hand through the bars to get her to sleep(she only gets picked up if she's crying for real - she's a actress, a fake cry only has tears from 1 eye!). Thanks fro all your advice.

I must admit on the unhelpfull daddy front iv maybe made a rod for my own back because I told dp that I would deal with the night times because he works shifts and I dont start work til 3pm. But when he is off work he just gets annoyed and frustrated with her then brings her into our bed for me to deal with. Then moans that she's climbing all over him.

Its horribly wet and windy here, so much for a lovely sunny day off work eh!

Mitchell
6oz butter/margarine*
6oz SR flour
6oz caster sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tsp vanilla essence (or I use vanilla sugar, omit if using a variation)

(or 8, 8, 8 and 4 for a bigger cake)

All in a bowl and whisk til the mixture drops of a spoon easily, a drop of water or milk helps if it's a bit thick.
Into a lined greased tin for 20-25mins at 180 degC (can't find that little circle on my keyboard) depending on depth of tin, keep an eye on it.

Variations

  • Chocolate- add a tablespoon of cocoa powder
  • Coffee - teaspoon instant coffee dissolved in a splash of hot water
  • lemon/orange - add grated rind and a wee squeeze of juice
  • almond (gorgeous!) replace some of he flour with equal measure of ground almonds (lovely topped with whipped cream, rasperries and toasted flaked almonds - too good for children!)

*I usually do marge for airier, butter if you want it a bit more dense and flatter for big decorative icing.

Mitchell81 · 29/09/2009 07:21

Thanks Baiyu even though you are 2 days away from getting married you still find the time to give me as cake recipe. Thank you

Well got through Monday without harming either of my children and sleep is better.

Went to look at the local school yesterday for DS1, and had a formal meeting with one of DH's staff re a slanging match she had with another member of staff. They're both as bad as each other, at least one of them needs to go if not both.

So how's work going for everyone, and are the toddlers as cute as ever? I love the way DS2 cuddles soft toys, I'm sure DS1 wasn't as interested.

Hope you're all well x

luckymummy74 · 30/09/2009 19:27

niknak Yup, DD2 cuddles her soft toys too saying 'ahhhh' at the same time and is now trying to say lots of individual words....and I even heard her definitely trying to sing Baa Baa black sheep too!!!

Been at work for 3 days and feel physically knackered. Mentally OK, but nearly every patient yesterday needed 'deep tissue massage' so I feel like Popeye....

Had a large glass of red wine (in honour of Baiyu). with dinner so won't try and post much more....too many typos!

Have a great day tomorrow Baiyu!!! HM Parcel sent today XXXXX

shonnomanom · 01/10/2009 12:53

Happy Wedding Day Baiyu hope this lovely weather stays for you!

We'v just found out my niece has German Measles. She came out in a rash just after we left her house. Fortunatley DD has had her MMR so fingers crossed she doesnt contract it - fingers crossed

Taking dp up to the nurse to get his staples out today, dont think il watch!

Happy October Ladies!

Niknak21 · 01/10/2009 14:39

Sho Hope DP ok, poor little DS2's balls are
still recovering .

Bit shocking about the german measles, how old is she? I'm sure your DD will be fine.

Just looked out the window and seen the lovely sunshine, great to Baiyu if it's with her.

Had a busy day today chasing up DH's staff re holiday (one trying to take too much) and the on going problems between 2 of them. And doing bed clothes washing for visitors this weekend.

It's my BIL's 30th today and DH was meant to be organising kite surfing on Saturday him and his 2 brothers. But guess who has ended up trying to sort it at the last minute?? He left it because it's so weather dependent, but it's going to be v windy on Saturday so they're busy and i'm chasing up other places. Plus got to go and buy food to feed them. I hate the way everything is so last minute with my his family and friends.

We also got the offer of a place at one of the private schools we have DS1's name down at. we have 2 weeks to sign the paperwork and give them a load of money to secure the place. Half of me still thinks he'll be fine at the local state school, but going to go and view it again. Also arranging to view another private school which is walking distance and has recently merged with a private secondary school. The problem is we are both rubbish at making decisions, but it usually falls to me to push the organising. Sometimes I can't even decide what to eat and this seems like such a big thing in his life. Although he'll be happy wherever you can't help but want to do what's best for them can you?

Off to the supermarket now, sometimes I wonder how I would fit a job in!

monkeysmama · 01/10/2009 16:40

Will post properly in few days but Baiyu hope you're having a magical, beautiful, happy day surrounded by the people you love most. Congratulations! Please post some photos. Hugs & best wishes.

Mitchell81 · 01/10/2009 17:56

Baiyu Hope you having a wonderful day

luckymummy74 · 02/10/2009 21:01

NikNak I too hate the way a lot of men do everything so last minute!! I have to plan ahead. All my friends are groaning cos I have started my Christmas shopping without really intending too.....I just buy stuff if I see it that I think someone would like...spreads the cost too!!

Got some news, I know I'm not my MIL's biggest fan, but I found out today that she paid over £10,000 cash to a dodgy hot tub company and has just found out they were dodgy and she has lost all her money!!!!!!!!! !!! Apparently they have been on Watchdog (under a different name) already. She seems to think there's nothing she can do?? Hopefully DH might be able to help her as he's good with that sort of thing.

Booked a holiday today, just 5 days in the New Forest. We looked at Centerparcs and they were asking £1,500 for a Comfort Villa (the absolute most basic) for 4 days in half term........!!!!!!!!!! I had to ring them to check if there was a mistake on the website and she said no and that the price varies from time to time!!!! It was nearly £700 for 4 days the week before half term, I'm sure we've been before and only paud about £200 for a mid week break off peak! I was 'flabbergasted' as my Mum says!

Come on girls.....let's get those Halloween names going now it's October.....
