Here we go then

roll up, roll up for the six month food fest.

Better night here, only two feeds at 1ish and 5ish, but at one point bumble was having a real chat to his blankie. DH was on the sofa and said he couldn't figure out who was talking and thought it was DD until he heard me say "shut up bumble". I have no recollection of it

We've given up with the porridge for a bit as it might have been that upsetting his tummy. He's certainly more cheerful now it's cleared his system.

lol merry....he doesn't like football, rugby, golf, F1 or any traditional blokey sports either (prefers climbing, skiing and fishing)......and buys me lovely exotic blooms from time to time, does lots of housework and hasn't pressured me for sex since before bumble was born (although I am getting a bit paranoid about that one ). He is a prince among men

weaning....sugar, just bad for teeth and can lead to faddy food habits. also relative to their size, things like petit filous yogurts are like us eating a cup of sugar (imo...no science there at all )

Dairy is supposed to be from six months iirc, and can be given as parts of meals (like in cereals) but not as main drink until around 12 months.

Just googled and found the Dept of Health weaning leaflet

juanitad · 09/04/2009 13:01

chocolategal, exactly the same thing happening here - P not at all bothered about his first feed of the morning, prob cos he stuffs his face overnight so I would really like to drop at least 1 of the night feeds but don't think the young man would be too impressed with that!! At the moment I bf him back to sleep when he wakes up so not sure how I would get him to settle back to sleep - don't fancy turning on the hairdryer at 3 in the morning, which is what I have to do in the day!!

Rosa · 09/04/2009 13:05

Not that we get them here but dd adores petit filous when we are in the Uk are they that bad then ???
I tend to buy her those yeo valley yoghurts as she hates yoghurts with bits as she calls them.
Dh working tonight , Sat and Monday not sure if we wil do a nice meal on Sunday as it means I have to shop on Sat and shops on Easter sat with 2 dd not an easy task here - plus having to carry it all . Somehow I have to get dd Easter egg as well and here they do them in huge wrappings which make them hard to hide !
Barbs 4 teeth wow we have yet to see any here not even the tips but she dribbles for Italy !
DH well mine hates all man sports as well but I seem to be short on the flowers and prezzie front !
Cri Cri hope you have nice time in Yorkshire may the weather be good for you.
Poor Dozy and right over the holidays as well- hope she gets better soon.
Lollies I made some last year for dd and they went down a treat we 'hid' grapes and blueberries in ours - but she spat them out as they were hard !!!

Hana, that is perfect. how can you refuse ?
right, first things first. do you want a nursery or a childminder ?

PinkyMinxy · 09/04/2009 14:56

We could make our babies boobie milk lollies!! but that's prolly sugary too.

But then juice is, too....hmm. carrot lollies. sweet poato puree lollies. Oh I don't know. Mimi isn't interested in eating anything anyway. And she's sleeping through at the moment.

Hana that is a fab job offer!

LackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2009 15:51

sounds great hana . Have a look on your local council website; they should have a link to local registered childcare, nurseries and childminders. Alternatively try www.direct.gov.uk

I want to get out to work; I am going potty here....not sure what to do though re childcare dilemma.

LackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2009 15:52

pmsl at the boobie milk lollies, but it all separates out when you freeze it and it looks very odd

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 09/04/2009 16:20

Yeah, expressed milk does not look attractive all separated..which reminds me...I bought a 100% natural peanut butter, just made with peanuts and it's amazing, loads of oil on top. Makes you wonder what 'stabilisers' etc. they put even in whole earth peanut butter (which I don't like anyway). [Not that I am Mrs Natural or anything, but I do eat quite a lot of peanut butter so thought natural would be better].

hana, take it! Check out nurseries and childminders. If you go to a toddler group quite often CM's go so you can kind of check them out while they are there. There is a lovely CM at our groups, she's so loving with the kids, I would choose her if she was available and I had a job!

Made choc biscuits with ds1 today and scoffed nearly all of them. Oops!

MerryMarigold · 09/04/2009 16:23

Oh, the petit filous with the puree on the bottom have a lot less sugar than the other ones. I just object to the Yeo Valley as they are half empty and Rachel's Organic is even worse! When ds1 was a baby he had natural yog with puree but I just stopped being bothered . These babies will prob live off Rolo puddings!

PinkyMinxy · 09/04/2009 16:25

Oh I remember that now. I froze it for DS, and it looked yuck.

peanut butter is one of those thigns that can be full of the evil palm oil IIRC so the one youve bought must be good, merry. DH loves peanut butter, I'm a bit hit and miss with it.

PinkyMinxy · 09/04/2009 16:28

my DCS love jam in the bottom petit filous.

LackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2009 16:30

PMSL at rolo puddings merry

I must admit I was a lot more relaxed about DD having puddings and sweet stuff than I was DS1. As you say, it'll be rolo puddings all the way with bumble

Went out for a walk this just before two and he fell straight asleep and is still sleeping. Fingers crossed there is something in the tale that if they sleep well in the day they sleep better at night; he usually only has three or four 20 minute cat naps in the day and is a terrible sleeper. will need to wake him up shortly though as he has been feeding like a demon and my right boob is at bursting point!!

OP posts:
chocolategal · 09/04/2009 16:46

Also LOL at rolo puddings! I love them!!

MerryMarigold · 09/04/2009 17:13

oh gosh i love palm oil. with spinach. with beans. but use the unrefined one!

PinkyMinxy · 09/04/2009 17:50

sorry didn't mean to sound preachy. Not doing very well today, am I? I think I'll get my coat!

MerryMarigold · 09/04/2009 17:55

no, not preachy at all, i didn't take it that way. i just thought, "oh no not another thing i love which is bad for you." genuinely didn't know it is bad! don't get coat, it's been fun having you around...

LackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2009 18:28

It's more a case of being bad for the environment merry, as vast swathes of rainforest are cut down to make way for the oil palm.

agree it's nice to see you posting more pinky

MonkeyMargot · 09/04/2009 20:17

aghh...so much to catch up on!!

Hana big time congrats on your job offer - clever you!!! Sounds like an offer you simply cannot refuse. I am sure you will be an even more brilliant mum for having 15 hours a week of grown-up stimulation!

rutho YAY for getting your desired hours, and finding a suitable nursery. Sorted!!! Now you must simply convince DH. My DH is same - has negative view of nurseries, thinks they are like Nursing homes...

jaunatid high-five for teachers maximising their mat. leave - love it!

dozy oh dear, hope your tonsils stop giving you jip soon

pinky you sound like you're being incredibly brave, facing your fears by going through counselling. I cannot relate, as had happy childhood, but truly hope you feel calmer/happier as a result.

emma re. contraception, I did the dirty deed with DH last night, and forgot all about the C-word. Thankfully, he reminded me that we need to get the condoms out! Phew. Not quite ready for DC2.

goingBacktoWork I'm also going back in July fulltime, (but sadly am not a teacher) . DH supposed to be doing SAHD for a while, however, discovered that one of my mummy neighbours has just employed a nanny 3 half days a week - and could do nanny-share. Think this might suit us better than nursery? Might give DH some relief also.

Went out last night for my monthly book club - we used to do it in daytime with babies - but now they are all so wriggly, decided to move it to evening. Such fun!!

Am loving being a mum at moment- the Plum is so happy, giggly, wriggly and lovely. Also sleeping v. well, from 7pm - 5:30am then back down til 7:30am.

MonkeyMargot · 09/04/2009 20:19

P.S. hope my post didn't sound smug...wasn't meant to. Just that things were tough a while back, now they are brill.

coolkat · 09/04/2009 20:25

Post did not sound smug Monkey. I think its great that everything is so fab X

Dozy sorry to hear about tonsils again. I hope your feeling better soon.

LOL at the Breast milk lollies!

I got some butternut squash today to cook tomorrow for Rebecca to try. I have to admit that I have never tried it either!

I am so tired, I don't know why as have not done much.

Hi to everyone else

Ceebee74 · 09/04/2009 20:45

Evening all - just managed to catch up on everything.

Am absolutely knackered - me and DH literally did not stop all day building furniture and sorting DS1's bedroom out - pretty much from 8 this morning until 5.30 this afternoon! Just about managed to get it done before we had to pick DS1 up from nursery - have to say, it looks fab and DS1 was practically bouncing off the walls in excitement when he got home and saw it Went to bed quite happily in there tonight...so hopefully Operation Sam can start tomorrow and we can reassemble the cot in the nursery and move Sam in tomorrow night.

Sorry for me me me post - haven't got the energy to do anything else

LackaDAISYcal · 09/04/2009 20:47

coolkat, roast the squash rather than steaming or boiling it; tastes much nicer that way.

Bumble had some grated apple tonight and loved it, and we tried him with some brocolli and mange-tout (waved around, licked, nose screwed up and then dropped on the floor) and he was drooling so he had some porridge and ate everything. He had some potato at lunchtime as well and loved that. He isn't quite grabbing food himself yet, but he won't be long I don't think.
