Here we go then

roll up, roll up for the six month food fest.

Better night here, only two feeds at 1ish and 5ish, but at one point bumble was having a real chat to his blankie. DH was on the sofa and said he couldn't figure out who was talking and thought it was DD until he heard me say "shut up bumble". I have no recollection of it

We've given up with the porridge for a bit as it might have been that upsetting his tummy. He's certainly more cheerful now it's cleared his system.

Ruth Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. at the gas bill, although ours was about the same I think

Lacks hope you're getting everything done (hope you're not lurking )

Took A to get weighed on Tuesday, she's 13lb at 20 weeks. HV suggested weaning as she's showing signs of being ready. Was a bit as I thought it might reduce her milk intake but thought I'd give it a go and just stop if she stops having as much milk. Well it's had the opposite effect. She's regularly downing 8oz in a sitting (we could only get 6 at the most into her before) and seems to be enjoying the mush.

Took her for a walk to the shops today and put her in the pushchair seat of her pram for the first time. She seemed to enjoy it. She was getting to be a liability in the carrycot, trying to sit up and pull herself out of it etc so she seems much happier

Right, she's kicking off so best go see to her

Am stumped for new thread titles, think I will leave it to someone much wittier than me!

I still can't work out where 18 months of paying £200 = £966.28... My maths is rubbish but even so that makes £3,600. Even if we pay £57 per month for gas as we use it (previous Direct Debit) that is still only £1026, which is still only a total of £1992.28. I am going to ask them to take into account summer usage and the fact that I was at home all the time from October til now with a baby and from July will be in work 3 days a week.

I still can't get it to £3,600...

barbareebaa · 23/04/2009 13:16

jaysus Rutho!!!!!!!!

How come the bill is for such a long period? Surely they should have been reading your meter. Contest your bill.

Tell them (if all alse fails) that you will not be paying that amount each month and then suggest a better amount (we are paying £35 a month for a £600 bill we accrued over a 5 year period - theydidn't read our meter once in that time - they were estimating our bill and it turned out to be off the mark somewhat)

Good luck honey - it's a huge shock isn't it

AFingerofFudge · 23/04/2009 13:25

I did actually choke on my ham sandwich rutho when I read your gas bill horror post. HOW can it get to that????I 2nd pinky with the whisky, but maybe just cut and out the hot tea and go for the whisky. That or breathe deeply into a paper bag.

Catch up ...Blimey at the gas bill that is BIG !
Twinkling I have the same thing with MR - she smiles though when she is in my arms and after a sleep- She is a whinging, clingy baby that at times drives me mad. I can't do anything in the house unless she is on my hip - SHe loves her buggy as long as I don't stop - I was thinking about splashing out oin a jumperoo as she likes being vertical but they are very expensive here and I dont think dh will approve !
Daisy can I have your autograph please and Bumbles hand print so I can sell on e bay in afew years time ????
Glad you all had a good meet up .
We went to a zoo yesterday - a small one but it was good and animals loked happy and well cared for . DD was very cool about it all - Look dd there is a kangaroo , bear etc She was more excited about the sheep and cows !!!It was balzing hot - short sleeves and sun cream and today it is chucking it down and temps have dropped by 10 deg !

ruthosaurus · 23/04/2009 13:50

I know, blessings counted! I am just dreading telling DH, though. I don't know how to best do it. Maybe after tea, and tell him I've arranged for 2 quotes for a new boiler so it doesn't get that high ever again... We only have 4 radiators, as well. Sheesh.

We were going to get the kitchen done this year anyway, and that was going to necessitate a new boiler. Just didn't want to have to spend the kitchen money on gas!

Barbs, I just looked at the consumer advice website and basically we have to pay. The woman at Npower also said wait til mid May and then do a meter reading and get another 18-month offer then as the projected usage will be lower . In the meantime, I am banning all use of heating unless there is a frost warning! Fin will just have to learn to be less nesh.

ruthosaurus · 23/04/2009 13:51

Sorry for me posts, must be the whisky...

LackaDAISYcal · 23/04/2009 14:14

just popped in whilst having a tea break......and fuck me rutho that's outrageous

However.....watchdog have been doing a big thing about power suppliers recently and one thing they said if you have had a major hike in your bill is to make sure they have got the right units. Some meters are still in imperial units so cubic feet rather than cubic metres or somesuch. That might account for such a huge hike. Go and check your metre and also get back to them as a huge increase like that needs to be looked at. Our bill is only about £900 a YEAR, not quarter and we live in a larger than average 3 bed semi.

OP posts:
cricri · 23/04/2009 14:15

Rutho at your gas bill. That does sound rather high for 6 months' of gas only, especially as it includes summer months. I agree with Barbs - can you not ask them to read the meter and recalculate the bill? We did this with our water company when they sent us a hefty bill based on an inaccurate meter reading. Took 6 months to sort out but was worth it.
Twinkling Sorry you're having such a hard time with DS Hope some of the suggestions already posted work as I know all too well how hard work a velcro baby is. I count my blessings that E will at least amuse herself and it's only when she wants to sleep that she gets clingy. Rosa sounds as though mini-rosa is hard work too. Zoo trip sounds nice.
I have a question about water intake for babies - I'm a bit confused. E is happily having 3 meals a day now, somewhere between 15 and 20 spoonfuls of puree at each meal. The rest of the time she's bfing. Should I be offering her water as well or only milk? I keep reading conflicting advice on this so thought I'd ask you wise ladies instead
London ladies meet-up Any chance of doing it in the next 2 weeks before I go to France?? Monkey is then away for 2 months as well.
No ideas for a thread title I'm afraid - but I do like Hana's one about highchairs and chocolate eclairs

LackaDAISYcal · 23/04/2009 14:27

just reread your post rutho and that is for three quarters of the year, but agree that split over 18 months the arrears are only £55, and if they base your future use to be the same as the last nine months that's about £107 a month.......so £160 ish, NOT £200.

Please don't get quotes from the big guys for your boiler replacement; they charge wayyyyy too much. We had a combi boiler installed with eight new radiators, new pipework and an extension for one of the boilers which meant a lot of crawling around under the floor, all for £4000. British Gas wanted that just for the boiler!! Ask around for some recommendations from friends and family. I'll see if our guys will go as far as Sheffield if you like? They were very good.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 23/04/2009 14:29

cricri, no need for water at this stage imo. I always offer a BF after bumble has had solids, just to quench his thirst.

I would offer water once they are more established on solids, say from around 9mo in a cup with meals.

OP posts:
ruthosaurus · 23/04/2009 14:38

Pleas, Lacks, that would be ace. I just got the big guys round for quotes cos it felt like I was doing something useful. It'll give me womething to tell DH so he doesn't just freak out.

Also I'm not actually a grownup and don't exactly know how these things are organised!

cricri · 23/04/2009 15:02

Thanks Daisy, that's what I thought about the water. I've been tending to feed E before she has her solids - about an hour or so before as milk is still the most important at this stage isn't it? Should I be offering her a bf after her meal as well? Having said that she's just spent the last hour or so attached to my boob in the sling so she's had plenty of milk after her lunch. Think I'm being used as a human dummy
Rutho Agree with Daisy, definitely get an independent person to change your boiler as BG and Co. charge way to much and aren't even all that reliable.

ruthosaurus · 23/04/2009 15:18

Cricri, know the feeling! Especially when sucking and grinning are combined.

Speaking of which, I have being doing displacement activity hoovering this afternoon and under the bed I found no less than 4 pairs of 'orrible balled up socks, iyswim. FFS. Mind you, I thought they were just really big dust bunnies for a minute. It's not that I mind him doing it, it's that he keeps complaining he's got no socks. And leaving them for me to find is grim beyond words.

Now there's a lovely fragrant image for a sunny April afternoon.

Ceebee74 · 23/04/2009 16:12

Afternoon ladies - have eventually managed to persuade DH to move his laptop out of the office and into the lounge so I can use our computer - honestly, what is the point of having a laptop and then refusing to be portable with it???

Rutho have you recovered from your shock yet? I have total baby brain and got very confused by all the figures/calculations floating about on here

Twinkling I completely understand about finding it hard with your DS cos he is so different to your DD. DS2 is the same - although I don't think he is as grumpy as your little man, he can be a grumpy pants (usually on days when his naps go to pieces) and it can be hard to get a smile out of him whereas DS1 was a very very happy baby - always smiling and laughing, hardly ever grumpy (even when tired). In fact my mum who has had 3 DC of her own and 6 GC said she had never seen such a smily baby as DS1 - so DS2 is a bit of a shock. But when you do get a smile, it is maybe a little bit sweeter cos you have had to work for it?

Can I just share with you all that I tried on a pair of new jeans today that have been sat in my wardrobe for about 2 years in the vain hope that they would fit me......and that day has come Still only halfway to what I want to lose so got a long way to go but am still so chuffed

Right, I hope there is some good stuff on the Active Convos as, having made such a fuss about turfing DH out of the office, I feel I should stay in here now

Ceebee74 · 23/04/2009 16:12

BTW, Hana I liked your final suggestion about a thread title...the one about them being here half a year etc

phee96 · 23/04/2009 16:44

Hana I agree with Ceebee, like your last suggestion

Ceebee Congrats on the jeans

Ruth I agree with what others have said about getting the gas company to check your meter. BG sent us an estimated bill in the winter of 2007 - our gas had been disconnected for about 6 months since we got flooded so we knew we had used no gas

phee96 · 23/04/2009 17:24

I keep forgetting to say daisy fab news about the video, I honestly can't think of a better person for the job and as for bumble, well it's definitely one to trot out on his 18th
