Here we go then

roll up, roll up for the six month food fest.

Better night here, only two feeds at 1ish and 5ish, but at one point bumble was having a real chat to his blankie. DH was on the sofa and said he couldn't figure out who was talking and thought it was DD until he heard me say "shut up bumble". I have no recollection of it

We've given up with the porridge for a bit as it might have been that upsetting his tummy. He's certainly more cheerful now it's cleared his system.

Well done daisys DD
Also sumo sitting
Started weaning at almost 22weeks obs so not 'well' early IMO. Just tastes at the moment. Is there an age they should be on the 3 meals a day?

All went fine at paeds appointment, we are as good as discharged, just to get one more ultrasound in a months time, more for my reassurance than anything else I think was a lovely doctor.

Oblomov · 21/04/2009 18:21

Sorry.
Didn't mean to offend.
Sincerely.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/04/2009 18:27

5, she is only 22 months so not potty training at all really. she has recently started to get really funny about nappies though and doesn't want one on at all and absolutely hates nappy pants or "big girl" pants.

of course 20 mins after the triumphant wee in the potty she piddled all over her feet and the carpet

chocgal, I think obs was just being her usual tongue-in-cheek self

HVs would have you believe that they need to be on 3 meals a day by 9 months, but ime it depends on the baby. DD used to have a bit of something when we ate but not exactly what I'd call meals.

We have been doing breakfast and tea, but missed breakfast today as we had to go to the supermarket!

OP posts:
chocolategal · 21/04/2009 18:35

Oh obs I didn't take offense, I perhaps could have worded my post better!
I have been giving a couple spoonfuls of a savoury and a sweet at teatime as he seems most hungry then.
Babies that are on 3 meals a day should still be taking the same amount of milk, is this right? Up until 1?
And if they drop milk is this a sign they aren't quite ready for food?

5inthebed · 21/04/2009 19:09

Obvlomov, no offence taken. Not all babies can wait til 26 weeks for solids.

Sumo is on 2 as well, breakfast and tea, although have been giving him supper before bed in the hope he will sleep, but no suck luck.

Daisy, 22 months is young for potty training so even one wee on the potty is great! DS1 was 27 months when he went without nappies. Sadly, DS2 is still in nappies, but he has SN so nowhere near ready even though he is 3.8 years .Working it out, I will have been changing nappies solidly for 6 years next month. Thats a whole load of nappies!

londonboots · 21/04/2009 19:14

rosa I had M weighed last week (at 23 weeks) and he had only put on 0.8kg/1.7 pounds in 4 weeks so had dropped from about 75th to 50th centile. similar to juanitad, my HV wasn't worried - although M had also had a bit of a cold the week prior - but no suggestion to wean pre-6mo. monkey, I think was the same for the plum recently?

monkey i bought just the sunscreen lotion, not spray-on. it was fear of a wayward squirt in a spray - just thought lotion would be safer around the LOs.

yay! london meet up! although, given i'm back to work in 2 weeks (yikes!!!) not sure it will work out for me. work had some appeal a month or so back, but with some nice weather and M being so gorgeous and fun recently, i think it's going to be really tough...autumnlady how is it going for you??

coolkat · 21/04/2009 19:25

Re 3 meals a day my HV said to aim for 7.5 months but like starting weaning I should imagine it will vary with each LO. X

AFingerofFudge · 21/04/2009 19:51

ooh, we all have such clever children eh? Well, not that M has done anything very impressive today-puked on the arm of his new sleepsuit, whinged while we were trying to eat dinner, scratched his own face while rubbing his head, you know the sort of thing.

Haven't done a bit of weaning here, tho M is one of the younger ones, about 19 or 20 weeks today, I've lost count! Back to the doctor tomorrow to see what results of the poo sample are, and to report on how the lactose free milk is going. To be honest, I don't think its made any difference to his poo life, or his skin, and in fact he doesn't really like it some feed times have turned into a bit of a chore, on and off, fussing etc.

Does anyone have a bugaboo? if so, at what point do you change from the carrycot to the ordinary seat?

Ceebee74 · 21/04/2009 20:08

Obs Not really weaning here - just trying Sam with one puree a day (a very small amount tbh) as a taste - he is nearly 22 weeks. Although he has spit most of it back out apart from banana which, judging from the contents of his nappy yesterday, he clearly swallowed more than I thought he had

Daisy well done to your DD I really need to get DS1 potty trained but have something on every weekend for the next 2 which would make it hard to be nappy-free (days out/parties etc) and I want to go completely cold turkey - so I guess that will be middle of May before we get round to it.

All the babies seem to be coming on well don't they? I have to keep reminding myself that Sam is one of the youngest cos I read what all yours can do and worry that Sam isn't doing it....but of course, he wouldn't be

Rosa agree that dropping weight is not really a sign to wean - they need more calories which they will get from more milk, not pureed veg/fruit - am trying Sam with purees purely to get him tasting them, not to provide extra calories as he is happy with his milk.

Had a lovely day today - Sam has been in such a happy smiley mood (now why couldn't he have been like that yesterday when you all saw Mr Grumpypants )

Pinky don't worry about your DD1 bopping DS1 - he has been known to dish it out aswell so am happy he gets a taste of his own medicine!! Just can't wait for Sam to get bigger and start walloping him to get revenge for all the pain DS1 has inflicted on him

PinkyMinxy · 21/04/2009 20:15

hello all

Weaning- no not yet, tried a wee bit of a few things we were eating but she's not really ready, just likes joining in with the chat at table. May start her with some porridge next week if she's interested. Not expressed any milk yet so must get organised. Have washed the beaba baycook, that about as much preparation I've done

Mimmi is definitely rolling onto her front, bless, anddoing little baby sit ups when she does. Not that she's doing it a lot, mind!

Daisy in awe of your DD's potty business! DD1 just want her nappy back on!

Well done Sumo on the sitting up. what a star!

Coolkat sorry the sunshade isn't going to work. The outlook one I have seems to be good- maybe worth a try?

Fudge- I moved mine into the seat at around 5-6 months, when I had my Frog. It's a shame the bug doesn't have a backrest in the carrycot, as there was still penty of room in it- it was just that theyu wanted to look around at that age.

Good news on the 'mental assessment' Obs. Hope you get a quick referral.

PinkyMinxy · 21/04/2009 20:19

x-posts there, ceebee!

DD1 met her match a bit at toddler group today- she was quite shocked when someone hit her! Little monkey she is.

I didn't see Sam being grumpy pants- he was being very sound asleepypants when I saw him!

ahh what beautiful babies we have. Can't believe Immi will be six months old at the end of this week. EEK!

Rosa · 21/04/2009 20:40

Evening all - As at the clinic ( more a social meet up for me ) The team was not the usual one that I really get on well with and I am / was not happy about the weaning as she is not ready yet so I rang her paed ( we have an assigned paed here not a gp) In fact I was a bit upset and confused. He basically said what you guys have said .......teach me to waste money on a phone call posting here is cheaper . He suggested doing tastings - few teaspoons here and there if she is interested to bf as normal but to maybe add in some formula either in one go or in a couple of feeds just to bulk her up- to try this for a week . If you look at her she looks chubby bit as Juanitad she has grown bit in length.
Well done to dd for her widdle ...and the one on the floor. DD1 has gone to bed without princess pull ups tonight ..She has been dry for 2 weeks but we couldn't get her out of them £10 and 4 pairs of princess pants from Disney store later ......Bugg*r so much for the formula she is awake !

ruthosaurus · 21/04/2009 21:02

Evening ladies! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry I missed the meetup, and after we planned it for Sheffield as well . I will totally get to the next one, but tbh I'm still not right now and trying to bf on no food is crap. Thanks for all your get well messages.

Can me having a stomach bug have put Fin off my milk? Breastfeeding Counsellor said there was no danger but I swear it tastes funny to him. He screams and arches his back, poor lamb.

'kay, honourable mentions time. Say "present" and raise your hand when your name is called...

Vbab, I have met you a couple of times now and you are lovely, as is A (I haven't met R) and I'm just sorry I didn't get to catch up with you yesterday.

Lacks, well done DD! You must have been v surprised, looking at your post. It's the start, isn't it? I wouldn't want to wear those pull-up thing either.

Chocolategal, yay for good doc visit (I typed "good paed visit" and it just looked wrong for some reason). Nice to get the all clear, eh?

Fudge, is it the Frog or the Chameleon that you have? My mate has just tried her DD in the Chameleon at 21 weeks and she is quite dinky but was apparently fine. I have the Bee and Finbo has been sitting in that for ages (he seemed keen so I let him - what a puschair pushover I am).

Twinkling and Hana, lost count of where you are with DHs and hope it is going okay. I can esp relate to the thing about going to bed far too late as an avoidance tactic but the bugger can stop up later than me every time...

Weaning - not started yet and am putting it off for another couple of weeks and definitely while I have this bug, so I'm not introducing a whole theatre of potential food hygiene alarums and excursions. I have managed to find the wickle Ikea bowl 'n cup 'n spoon 'n bib set but I am also holding out til I have bought a less huge and awful-to-clean high chair. DH's stepmum bought us a cosatto somethingorother from a car boot sale and while the thought is appreciated it is v big and has loads of fiddly bits that look like they will be ace for trapping banana. Plus, you remember DH was smoking in the attic? Well, that's also where the chair was living so some of the while plastic has gone a bit yellow. Gross. Plus the straps are filthy and it's going to be a nightmare to clean them. I know they say never look a gift horse in the mouth but this nag isn't the winner SMIL thought it was...

Sorry if I missed anyone - will double check tomorrow but am off to bed with a dioralyte and a slice of dry toast now. Nighty night.

PinkyMinxy · 21/04/2009 21:24

Get well soon Rutho.x

coolkat · 21/04/2009 21:30

Ah Ruth ge well soon. I had a stomach bug a couple of weeks ago. Keep feeding was the advice I got. X

twinklingfairy · 21/04/2009 21:50

DS 25 weeks on Friday coming and I am not even thinking about weaning.
He is hardly even glancing at food, never mind stretching for any.
We tried banana the other day but the tongue reflex thingy is still going on, so out it came.
Ah well, we will just wait.

chocolategal · 21/04/2009 21:57

Get Well soon rutho you still have your sense of humour ;) xx

LackaDAISYcal · 21/04/2009 22:34

just popping in quickly to say Get Well to Rutho......Bfing and illness are a miserable combination, but the fact that you have already given Fimbo some immunity to whatever bug you have makes it a wee bit better, so even if he gets it, he won't get it as bad as if he hadn't had that immunity

and arrrrrggghhhh, I've spoken to the production company....bumble and I are up for a starring role in the BFing video for the local NHS trust ...is it true that the cameras add 10lbs? Mind you, when you are as chubby as me, what's another 10lbs .

OP posts:
PinkyMinxy · 21/04/2009 22:55

Yay daisy- could this be Bumble's big break? Seriously though- I'm sure you'll be great.

twinklingfairy · 21/04/2009 23:02

Poor you ruth
Is it difficult cos you knackered or cos you are convincing yourself it is sub standard milk?
Cos I am sure it is not and, as lacks says you are giving your LO those immunities. It is a good thing you are ill

LackaDAISYcal · 21/04/2009 23:02

I hope so Pinky....then he can keep me in the manner in which I'd like to get accustomed to

Provided he doesn't decide it's time to play the thrice daily game of "see how far Mum's nipple will stretch" we should be OK

am just wording a strong email regarding the ripped covers on the P&T. The retailer have referred me to the distributor who are saying they are only obliged to repair/replace, so I have been checking my rights as a consumer this evening

am gutted as I love the P&T concept....just not the shabby quality

OP posts:
twinklingfairy · 21/04/2009 23:07

Oh yikes lacks does that mean it will be all up close and personal?
cos it is NHS will they be trying to show how to get the correct latch etc?
Good on you, whatever way they film it, it is good to be a part of teaching/showing others how great BF is

Imagine if bumble did go into acting, this would be so embarassing for her.
mwahaha

twinklingfairy · 21/04/2009 23:07

Oh bugger, him. I meant him

PinkyMinxy · 21/04/2009 23:21

Lacks I hope you get somewhere re the P&T. Mine does look a bit worn in places, but I think TBH the V2 I have has worn better than the Sport. I wonder if they have changed the place of manufacture since they got more popular.
But the shop should just give you your money back- surely it's your choice to have refund or repair? I wonder about this issue. we bought a vacuum cleaner recently and it's not very good- but a big label on it says to contact the manufacturer with any problems, not the retailer. I don't like this idea- I think the shop you bought it from should deal with this for us. Anyhoo I hope you get somewhere. AS I said out and about were awful when we had problems with the hood on ours.

SausageRoleModel · 21/04/2009 23:22

EVENING ALL - just a quick post before I put my head down. Have been exhausted and Wee T has been clingy all day. In a perfectly good mood as long as she is in my arms but not wanting to settle or play by herself or sleep at all, so I have achieved nothing - my to do list has become a "to-didn't" list. Humph.

ruth are you going to try and clean that high chair or get another one? I need to get one asap so am looking for recommendations - I know the trip trapp is a fave on this thread and I like them, but even the gumtree second hnd ones are about 90 quid and I cant really afford that at the moment. Don't know what other alternatives there are.

twinks hope you sort things out - we have a very up and down time too, and tend to repeat patterns and arguments over and over again. My problem is that my DH can be a complete [arse] in an argument (to quote Daisy ) but for my part I find it diffiult not to fall straight into "end of world" scenario in response to what he says (which he claims after that he doesn't mean, he just says in a temper) and its a bad combo.

weaning - well Wee T is 20 weeks now and has been on purees for a month and seems to be thriving on it.We watched some fascinating behaviour last week when she was at the table (in her cousins tripp trapp!)and had a bowl of mash in front of her to see if she would grab some. Instead of going for the mash, she pulled the bowl towards her and stuck her head to the edge of it it trying to lap it/eat it like a bowl of milk. I've never seen anything like it - but I suppose it must be an instinctive thing. Fabby

And I know it is cheating not pureeing your own stuff - but the sachets of puree from ella's kitchen are going down a storm in this house. They mix vegetables with fruit so its a bit sweeter. It seems to be like baby Crack for weeT. She almost had a fit when he broccoli, pear and peas sachet finished!
