I can't help with the feeding Jenwa. But you're right - they can have full fat milk in their with weetabix, just not as a drink.

Sorry to hear you're feeling on edge. Is there any way you can get away for a weekend or something - anyone you can go and stay with?

I've done that no wheat, no sugar thing, MM when we were starting to TTC as I was convinced it was going to be really hard (in fact I got pregnant quickly) and it really does shift the weight. It's definitely easier to do in the summer when you can make lots of nice salads and eat a lot of lovely fruit.

Another shocking night here. This time as well as S waking, dp was tossing and turning and driving me mad. I really hope S hasn't inherited his awful sleeping habits...

jenwa - I would say that it doesn't matter whether she eats all of her lunch or not, since milk rather than food is the important thing at this age. How about giving breakfast, bottle at 11, smaller portion of lunch at 12.30, bottle at 3.30 or 4, and a bit of tea at 5 or 5.30? Then you can gradually reduce the amount of milk in the bottles to encourage her to eat more food.

Personally I tend to bf when I think he's asking for it, and give solids at whatever time we are eating, which varies, but I know that you like a more structured routine than this.

Do the rest of you give milk or solids first in the morning?

Morning all! Hiya Ekka.

Jenwa- I can't help much either but just wanted to let you know that I have a fussy ds too. Hopefully this might reassure you a bit to know someone is in a similar boat? Since I started bf he has often refused milk, or drank very little so I feel like I'm constantly stressing over his feeding. It can take a good hour to get him to feed, not continually but I'll try, then leave him, try again. However he's always put on weight and is following his line in the red book, he is happy and settled too. The HV always tell me that babies will take what they need so as he is gaining weight not to worry. This doesn't help much when you have a ds who's last bottle was 5hrs ago just drinking 1oz!!! Anyway I have tried to chill out more about it in the last month and now just let him take it when he wants it which does mean I'm constantly trying the bottle but I have no idea what else to do.

We only started solids last sat so he is still on one meal a day. At the moment he will still have his milk- just as fussy as before- but I am fully expecting him to start to refuse it once his solids increase. Typically as I mentioned in an early post the only time he wants to eat every 4hrs and the whole bottle is during the night .

Sorry just realised I've put bf but I meant as bottle feeding. Should have been ff I think.

CSWS- idea sounds good to me. Being new to the whole soilds thing I'm not quite sure how to fit it in with milk so have been giving him at lunch with a bottle but the idea of eating food together is much better.

we have a milk feed at 7am, breakfast about 9 with a short feed after, lunch at 1, dinner at 5:30-6 and bed at 8ish. alex bf whenever he asks for it which can vary loads, doesn't seem to have a set pattern to it, little monster!

csws you know me so well, I am structered god I need to lighten up

think your right, I will go back to the 11 bottle....better go and do that in a minute then as its now gone 11 then give lunch later. She seems to just play with the bottle now though, I think she wants to try and do it herself but still struggles, but come solids she has her mouth wide open and eats for britain, yesterday she had a whole bowl full, I thought she would never eat the lot and she did it was a full childs breakfast dish!!!!
rachie DD is gaining weight too so I know she is doing ok its just she has always guzzled her feeds down and never had a prob with them and now she is on the solids just does not seem interested in the milk .
I do give breakfast before bottle as thought it was the way to wean them off it, maybe I should give her a bottle first then breakfast after and see if that keeps her going abit longer? Its always a rush in the morning to feed them and get ready and me eat to get out the house at 8:40! Ok will try it though seeing its the weekend

Oh on the leaflet I got re weaning it said that babies at 6 months should be on 3 milk feeds,
it says
Breakfast plus milk feed
lunch plus milk feed
tea plus milk feed So do they mean babies should have milk straight after feed?

Jenwa- I'm worried that's where I'll struggle when ds is properly weaned and is supposed to just have three bottles a day. The way he is at the moment I'm not convinced that I'll get the minimum amount of milk in him (I read between 17-27oz) in just three bottles. I suppose I'll just have to see how it goes. I guess it's whatever works for ds and us so if he needs 4 bottles a day then so be it.

Dh has just taken ds to his parents for the afternoon. I have the house to myself time to myself ... such a strange feeling. I'm not sure what to do first! I've got a massage booked a bit later (christmas present from dh that I've only just got around to having) which I'm so looking forward to.

Hiya Myjob- lovely to 'meet' you too.

Jenwa - I remember with dd I used to give half the feed, then solids then the other half of the feed then she gradually had less & less milk and more food.

CSWS - is it possible to make a white sauce without using milk? Would rice milk work?

rice milk useable but not great ekka. Unsweetened soya milk a better alternative imo.

Thanks CSWS! Right, I'm off to find some unsweetened soya milk after lunch. I have loads of fish to use up and want to make a fish pie for tonight.

Enjoy the massage RachieW. Its funny when the dcs aren't around - both mine had a 2 hour nap at the same time the other day and I didn't know what to do with myself! Sadly its not an experience thats been repeated .

Massage was lovely, well slightly painful due to all the knots in my back but now it feels great. My back has been hurting since the birth of ds so I knew it wasn't in great condition. I've been advised to have 2 massages a month . Got home and had time to go to bed for a 2hour sleep before dh and ds got home. Feel so alive for a change

Am loving dh for giving me a day to myself. However he has managed to annoy me by telling me that MIL is "excellent" at feeding ds as he didn't get food anywhere I've been letting ds hold the spoon himself because he wanted too and I thought letting him be independent would be good. Anyway MIL is lovely but I always get a bit prickly as I'm a stubborn mule and want to do things my way. Also mess doesn't bother me but it upsets dh- he likes things just so. Having to adapt a lot though since ds came along, poor man

Dont worry my DH is the same. Even after 3 children he still finds the mess painful!!

RachieW · 25/04/2009 19:25

Thanks Ronshar Before we had ds dh kept saying, well we won't change nappies downstairs we'll do it in the bedroom; I don't want a load of toys round the house, we'll keep them all in a toy box.

Well we have a toy box, it's empty- toys are all over the house. Nappies are changed here there and everywhere. He is a reluctantly changed man

ohhhh csws you're right... keenwah... I think there's a slight "o" sound barely heard between the /n/ and /w/ sounds... But then... I'm American, so tomato tomOto lol.

My dh is same about mess rachie and ronshar. We are quite minimalist... we've kept to it nicely with the baby equipment, keeping everything put away at night and everything has it's place... but it's painfully difficult work. exhausting! But - trut be told, I'm also quite neurotic about everything being VERY clean and organized.

Oh he's not really ill with it Ekka, just spotty and with a crusty nose in the mornings! He cries if/when we clean the crusts off so that he can breathe though .

Am uploading some more vid of him eating to fb atm. He had homemade chilli and rice - embrace the mess!!

Hi all, just a quickie as I'm off to bed. I had half a red onion with my salad for lunch and Poppy has been restless on the boob and vomiting. So another thing I can't eat. DH told me yesterday that he thinks I should listen to the doc and stop the DF. So I'm gonna eat some nice dairy things in a few days (once she settles down again) then we'll see once and for all if the dairy is working. DH and I aren't speaking. I'm off to sleep. Night all
